Truly wish I read the reviews before coming here... I second the people that say this was the worst Mexican food they've ever had. And to top it all off my friend and I both became ill after we left. I'll spare the details on that but my stomach is in the worst pain. Which makes me question the sanitation of the back of house! Service was next to none. Had to go inside to find someone to seat us (the host stand was outside) after awkwardly standing there for what felt like a while. I'll acknowledge 3min feels like forever when waiting for things at restaurants and it was probably just that. Just annoyed by this because I walk in to no guests inside and the staff chilling on their phones. There was one gentleman basically running around doing everyone else's work and he was very nice! Wish I got his name to properly give kudos to him here. Our server was prompt in asking for our order but a little ahead of the game because we didn't have time to even glance at the menu. She went back inside to her phone and I had to go back in after 10min to ask her to take our order. A kind lady but that only goes so far when you're nowhere to be found throughout the entire experience... Ordered a chicken bowl which was basically a $15 laxative and 2 ala carte chicken tacos ($10!!!) to-go for a family member that ended up in the trash out of fear they would get sick as well. I understand you pay a premium for eating out but this price was absurd for the quality we received - for food and service. Dulcolax would've been cheaper! I should have read the Yelp reviews before coming here. The service was awful from the beginning. Our waitress didn't even take drink orders from the entire table and then came back trying to take food orders when only 2 out of 5 people had been acknowledged. Somehow she even skipped over the person paying for the meal. She was inattentive the entire time, rarely checked on the table, and when my drink finally arrived, she put it on someone else's side instead of handing it to me. Small detail, but it summed up the level of service we received. The restaurant also had flies hovering around and trying to land on our food while we were eating, which was honestly disgusting. The food wasn't any better. I ordered the churrasco and it was extremely chewy and difficult to eat. On top of that, the food took forever to come out. Between the poor service, long wait times, flies around the food, and disappointing meal, this was a complete waste of money. There are plenty of better places to eat in Tampa. Had a reservation for 13 on a Friday night. Staff was unprepared and flustered. It took almost 15 minutes to receive waters with no greeting. Happy hour menu does not clarify drinks are actually 2 for 1. Presentation of food was subpar, food quality was better than most Mexican in tampa. The vegetarian combo are the only vegetarian options on the menu, not listing the items anywhere else of proving a description of what is in the dishes. Single stall bathrooms; 1 men and 1 woman. At that point just make them gender neutral. Too big of a restaurant for only two bathrooms. There was a very bright led lighting right at eye level when sitting in the main dining room by the bar which made the experience not so lovely. read more

Unfortunately, my party had a very poor experience here. We came for drinks and ordered one martini, two Pina coladas, and one strawberry daiquiri. And when our drinks were finally made I watched them on the bar counter for 5 minutes melting while we waited for them to be brought to the table. Went to Margarita's Mexican on Davis Island after run club on Wednesday. It wasn't too busy, so we got seated right away. The service was average, but the little bit I nibbled on was actually pretty good. The Ultimate Margarita was definitely the winner, super refreshing and flavorful. We ended up getting a whole pitcher of it. The Classic Margarita, on the other hand, was a little too sweet for me and just didn't hit the mark. I came here with a friend for dinner and we decided to sit outside. The patio seating was really pleasant--comfortable, relaxed, and a nice spot to enjoy the evening. I ordered the California burrito, and it was delicious. The portion was huge and packed with flavor. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the balance of carne asada, fries, and toppings made it super satisfying without being overly heavy. My friend really enjoyed their meal too, and we both agreed it hit the spot. My food was cold and none of the other people but 1 liked their items. Chipotle & Taco Bell ( I don't go to either of these ) are more Mexican than this restaurant and have better food. Cinco de Mayo was upon us and my friends and I needed a last minute spot. We ventured over to Davis Island around 6:45 on Sunday. There was about a thirty minute wait for a table of five, which I felt was decent given the celebratory day. We were greeted by a live DJ and some guests enjoying the music as they showed off their salsa moves. Naturally we had to start with chips and salsa and a round of margaritas. I had the chicken enchiladas. My friends tried the nachos, coconut shrimp, fajitas, and a specialty chicken dish. Even though they were busy, all of the staff were very friendly. One of the waiters even sat down at our table to chat with us! We enjoyed the food and it was a perfect fit for the relaxed, low key dinner we were looking for! read more

It's not very clear on the menu, but you get TWO drinks for $8.95. My mom and aunt didn't know this and thought they were ordering just 1 each, but ended up a little tipsy by the end. LOL. You can choose either a margarita or sangria which is nice as well. I got chicken tacos for my main dish. It came with 3 and rice, and I ate every bite! It was delicious. You also get 1 free basket of chips and salsa. Extra salsa is $1 FYI! They will not tell you this, so I am telling you this! Service was a bit slow, but they were slammed, so I will not let that ruin my experience. They also had live music right next to our table. The vibe was very upbeat! We had lunch here while my dad had a procedure done at Tampa general hospital. We all got the steak tacos and thought they were pretty good. Visited Davis Islands for the first time in a while. We were craving Mexican food and saw Margaritas Mexican Restaurant and decided to give it a try. It's located on the main strip which is very convenient. The service from the waiters was very good as they provided good insight on the menu and specials. The food however was nothing special. We've tried better dishes at other Mexican restaurants that are deserving of 5 stars. The chimichanga and rice bowl were average and weren't our favorite. SLOW and not good waitstaff. DO NOT GO. We arrived, were greeted nicely, seated right away. No waitstaff came to our table for about 5-10 minutes. The waitstaff greeted us and got us chips and salsa and water. We ordered on her return. We were told about 20 minutes later that our food "would be right out." 40 minutes after we ordered, we couldn't find our waitstaff so we went to another asked how long our food would take to arrive. When they couldn't tell us, we said we had movie tickets and had to leave. We gave her a credit card. 5 more minutes went by and someone told us it would just be a few more minutes as they were packing up our food to go. NO! NO NO NO! We CAN NOT take our food to go because we have no refrigeration and are going to a movie. The staff looked perplexed and a little defeated. We paid our $32 bill for a basket of chips and a 1/3 cup of salsa and two glasses of water and left hungry and pissed. INSUFFERABLE. Spare yourselves. read more

The wait was so long that I asked for it to go. When the wait was even longer, I asked for it to be canceled and they did. It makes it look like they hasn't even started making it. The food is classic TexMex fare. I started with decently crispy chips and salsa with a hint of a kick. I would have enjoyed more, even paying for it...but I wasn't given the option. The chicken fajita meat was tasty if a little on the salty. Since service was on the slow side, I didn't have anything to wash it down with. Of course, my dessert wasn't even paid. ¿Dónde está la fiesta? Right here on Davis Islands! This was an excellent Friday night end to hub's nephew's wedding earlier that morning. Since we had dinner a few hours prior to coming here, drinks were the only thing on our minds. Located on E. Davis Blvd in Davis Islands, Margaritas was all that and then some. We sat outside. Period. Plus coming from NY, the palm trees and weather all said, "Tropics in December"- much appreciated. There was no way to argue that since this was our first time in Tampa. The server accommodated us right in front of the Latin salsa band and to be honest, the music wasn't thumping in our ears like you'd think. To add, we were talking for hours on end the entire night without yelling and popping a jugular. Two large complimentary tortilla chip baskets and salsa were placed on both end of the tables. Chips were large- but on the thin side and salsa had good flavor- but loose. Frozen Margaritas ordered were packed real good and my classic-ish, salted rim, French Chambord Margarita had a nice kick too. This restaurant will try to SCAM you. Do NOT go here. They tried to charge my friends and me double for an item that was clearly priced on the menu and refused to fix the bill at the end. A waitress who was not even serving my table made a nasty comment under her breath to me as she walked by during this as well. I had to call my bank and have the charge adjusted. For appetizers, I personally recommend the mexican egg rolls, fajitas nachos, or ceviche! For entrees, I switch between the enchiladas Mexicanas, flautas margaritas, or burrito diablo! Had an overall good experience here! Large outdoor patio, smaller indoor area. Went for an early dinner/happy hour around 5:30 pm and service was speedy and friendly. The happy hour is a great value (we had 4 margs total for $18) and I think the food was pretty average-- probably could use just a bit more flavor but I asked for some hot sauce and the problem was solved. The restaurant could use a good cleaning, the windows and fake flowers on the table look like they weren't cleaned for awhile. The chips were crunchy and not too salty. When I arrived I was told by one server sit wherever you want then the other server told me where to sit. I told them I had 2 people and they brought 3 place settings. Seemed all over the place. Once my guest arrived, we both ordered the lunch combo #1 which is a taco and a burrito. We had the choice of chicken or beef. I ordered both chicken and the food came out hot. I went for dinner on a chilly evening and requested to eat outside. The hostess gave me the choice of tables and since it was early, I found one next to a stand-up tower heater. It was perfect especially since we were drinking their house Margaritas. It was a little sweet but I squeezed a couple of limes into it and that fixed the sweetness. We ordered some cheese dip that complimented the basket of chips and salsa while looking over the menu. Since we snacked on so many chips, we chose to share a Combo Chicken and Steak Fajita Dinner. It was plenty of food and the quality fit the price. I don't know if the dinner portion is larger than the lunch portion but the price is higher at dinner. Service was very good and by the time we were done, I highly suggest a reservation if you want to be seated promptly. Long time favorite when in town to visit a Davis Island resident. Tonight was very different. Sat, pretty slow hello, eventually a server who was polite. Orders a couple of soft drinks and a couple of very tasty classic margs. Chips, etc. finished chips and tried for 30 min to flag someone down for refill and more margs. Eventually got our server back to take our order...still polite. We ordered some basics, nothing complicated and we were right in the main thoroughfare of the restaurant. Took forever on the chips and even longer on the margs. Waited well over an hour for the food. Reluctantly said something, and garnered some attention. 20 min later, still no food. Eventually we just paid cash for the drinks and left quietly and politely. Server finally came and said, "oh, you de used to leave?" Yes, my two young daughters and my host friend and I decided to leave. It was a long day of travel and we were starving when we landed. I know why the service was why it was and so do the adjacent neighbor tables and so do you which is extremely unsettling. Used to live your place, but that's the last time for us. read more

This is favorite mexican restaurant in the area and has kept me coming back for almost 5 years. Even during the pandemic, their quality has remained consistent and delicious. I bring all of my out-of-town visitors here for a reason: quality food and service at a reasonable price point. The margarita beverage menu is practically a novel, so there is sure to be something you like. The table comes with complementary chips and salsa that seem to be bottomless. My go-to order is the fajita steak bowl which comes with rice, peppers, onions, black beans, steak and cheese, then I add plantains on the side. I've been here a few times and usually I have good experiences, unfortunately coming here today for lunch with some friends was not extraordinary. We had to ask for more salsa several times, the server did not remember anything we had asked or ordered, and to top it all off my gluten free friend who asked for corn tortillas for her tacos had to watch everyone else eat because he didn't bring them.
