I was looking for a new hairstylist, so decided to use a Groupon to try a place out. I purchased the Groupon for Marjidavid Salon, as it had very good reviews. I asked to be scheduled with Alia, as she also had good reviews. I could not have made a worse choice! I was explaining to her what I wanted, when she kept saying how badly damaged my hair was. I wanted a very simple A-line, I thought, but as I was showing her pictures, she told me that I really didn't want an A-line but a simple Bob. What I wanted, was more like a combination. She continued telling me that my hair was damaged. I was listening to her, and she just stared at me, from behind the chair, into the mirror. I told her that I didn't know what she wanted me to say and she said that "that was supposed to be a lead in for the conversation to tell her what I use on my hair." This came in a tone which was both condescending and patronizing. I responded by telling her that a friend gave me a bunch of products from his salon that he had retired from, and I didn't really know what I was using. I reminded her that part of the Groupon was a deep condition. She then walked away, and then came back saying she needed a drink of water, clearly agitated. She washed my hair, put a conditioner in for about 2 minutes (deep conditioner?) and proceeds to cut my hair. She spoke not a word to me for the duration of her cutting. Nothing, she uttered, not one word! When she was done, I asked about a deep conditioner she might suggest. She suggested a hair mask that she showed me, and when I asked how much it was, she said $65.00. When I said I thought I would wait on that, her parting comment was. "Ok, well it's YOUR hair. She was rude, flippant, and snotty. Very unprofessional, and clearly does not want to acquire clientele for herself, or the salon. I also saw other stylists that, when finished with their client, walked them to the front desk to schedule additional services. After my haircut, she began sweeping and chose to stay at her station, failing to do what true professional do for any client. Is it because I used a Groupon? No excuse for it! I will never go back to her or anyone that would employ someone with that attitude. I have never chosen to not leave a tip, but I also don't believe in rewarding bad behavior. read more

Mrs. Scott H. writes - I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. My stylist is Caryn and she is fabulous. I was first referred to her by a good friend, to do my hair for my upcoming wedding. My hair was amazing. My past experience with stylist had been horrible, I would come home hating my hair and end up crying. I have to say that after every visit I have had with Caryn I am more than happy she really listens to what i have to say and take the time to do it all right. Today was my first time in and I had an absolutely great experience! Natalie is awesome! She was an ideal stylist as she listened to my color needs and understood my hair texture -coarse, a bit frizzy in the front, and somewhat dry. Decided to try it again....interestingly THIS time, it was $39 for a cut and deep conditioning and the "normal" amount was $55...seems they have cut their prices in HALF! Good for them. Mary cut my hair and was AWESOME!!! I have very straight, very fine hair and she had great suggestions and execution to add more volume. She was very professional, had a 'hair plan' for me, explained a lot of details, and was just generally nice. I enjoyed the experience and would recommend Melissa. Kelsey did a amazing job with my hair but I wasn't very happy when I noticed there was dye over the back of my sweater when I got home. I came to get a balayage done for $120 with a Groupon and they said getting my roots done would be a additional $35-45 and adding olaplex would cost another $35. But they never told me they were going to add two rounds of olaplex which ended up being another $70. My total after tips and tax was $285 which was way more than what I was expected to pay at first. Overall Kelsey was super sweet and she knew what she was doing and got me the hair I wanted; she worked on my hair for about 4 hours, non-stop. Just a little upset about the stains in my sweater and the unexpected 2 rounds of olaplex which should've been mentioned. This salon was great, I had my hair cut by Viola and she was awesome! Her attention to detail was superb and she really cares about your hair. She hand cut all of my hair which I've never experienced before, most of my haircuts have involved some sort of combo between hair clippers and scissors so the cut took a lot longer then I thought it would. For just the short time I was there I could really tell that she is passionate and knowledgeable about what she does. One thing that I thought was a bit weird though about the salon was the fact they made new clients fill out a information form, it makes sense logically since they wanted to enter me into the computer but I felt as if it was a doctors office or something. The form had a lot of questions as well... The location of the Salon is near the freeway and is super convenient, the parking lot is kind of small though and the exit is quite steep, I scraped the bottom of my car while I was leaving which made me cringe a little on the inside. Per usual, it's around ten weeks since my last cut and I am freaking out, in desperate need of a good snip. Margi David Salon is down the street from my apartment, so I decided to give them a call to see if they had any type of opening. Considerate, polite, and helpful, the receptionist let me know that they had an opening at six thirty in the evening the same day, however, it was for one of their new stylists, Melissa, who she said had just finished her training. I thought, what the heck, let's give it a whirl. I strolled in right on time, was greeted warmly, but had to wait about ten minutes for the stylist. This was not a big deal, given that I am an understanding and patient person. The place was busy! From the moment I sat down, Melissa made me feel sure that she knew what she was doing, understood what I wanted, and she got down to business. There wasn't any unnecessary or excessive chatting, which was wonderful. Throughout the appointment, Melissa let me know what she was doing and why. The appointment was unbelievably comfortable and worry-free. Wash. Cut. Blowout. After the final touches on the blowout, I look up to find one of the best haircuts I have probably ever gotten in my life, and I have had plenty. I have never left a salon as happy as I did when Melissa was finished. I immediately booked an appointment for eight weeks later and will absolutely go back again. Caroline was AMAZING and really took the time to really help talk me through what I wanted, while delivering an IMPECCABLE result. It's weird to rate a salon. A haircut is all about the stylist. And some stylists do well with some people and not so well with others. I'm happy with my stylist, MeriEsther, whom I've been seeing for about five years. I'm 50 years old with thinning curly hair and a busy active life that doesn't leave time for fussing over my appearance. MeriEsther makes my hair look decent, which is all I hope for at this point. The stylists are great but the front desk customer service was atrocious. I made an appointment through email and arrived 30 minutes early. The receptionist greeted me and told me to take a seat. I ended up waiting an hour without being acknowledged. I finally asked if my stylist was running late and they said my appointment wasn't for another hour. I can understand that mistakes can happen when taking down appointments. However, no one mentioned that I'd arrived two hours earlier than the time they had on file. The receptionist was friendly enough - but since no one called my back with answers to my questions, I assume they weren't looking for new business. I had a fantastic haircut and balayage/hair painting with Jess--I highly recommend her. I noticed that some reviewers complained about the Groupon experience, but I booked a Groupon haircut and a normal-priced balayage and had absolutely no issues with the Groupon aspect of my booking. Also, I have fine, thin hair and Jess gave me a flattering hair cut and probably the best dye job I've ever gotten. I love this salon, specifically I love Jodie at Margi David! I've lived in Seattle for over a year now. Got cuts at at least a dozen places before going to Jodie. I'm going back today for my 4th cut from her. The salon is professional, everyone is friendly, and Jodie just knows how to work those scissors! Always leave with a perf lil bob and exactly what I asked for. My favorite part is how she teaches me how to style my hair at home.. I've even brought in some of my own products and she's shown me how to use them best. Free bang trims are pretty pimp as well. The only way I'll stop going here is if I ever move out of the state. If you have a lot of money to spend on being publicly humiliated and treated like dirt, well then this is the place for you. I knew, it being on Eastlake-and that it was a salon, that I was bound to run into some egos that coloringand cutting hair, I mean I live in the Eastside, I'm used to it. But, this? I bought a Groupon- (And Mary if you're reading this: No, its not because I cant afford paying in full, but because it was $100 off a service I was already going to buy- so why not save the extra Benjamin and slip you extra extra in your tip? Mary, this is what we would call a no-brainer) When making the appt I made sure to tell the receptionist I purchased a Groupon (I didn't want there to be any surprises) and she went ahead and booked me an appointment with Mary. The receptionist behind the counter looked like she was smelling a fart when she asked me if I wanted any coffee or tea, but I brushed it off. What kept me sitting in my chair for as long as I did, was the salon dog. Hands down, the best part. After Mary (the stylist) so gingerly yet condescendingly (it's a skill- had me baffled at first) told me that it's easy to return Groupons and that she can show me how and then they would go ahead do me a solid, and let me pay in cash for the same price (so very weird) and when I didn't go for it (again, so very weird) she stated quite loudly that they don't accept 'Groupons' on Saturdays and then- to boot- told me if I wanted my balayage to not look weird (The Groupon was for a deep condition and a balayage for $120) I would need to purchase toner and gloss- another additional $100. My question, as I am sure yours is as well- Why promote a standalone product that will look 'weird' without the extras, and WHY even post a Groupon if you don't like accepting them and peer pressure your 'would be' clients into returning them and giving them the same price to pay in cash? Obviously the salon is in need of some money flow if they are fishing for new clients on other sites. Well, I after I told her she was making me uncomfortable, I got up and walked out. After years of trial and error and with BIG name salons in Seattle may have finally found my new match. I am a brunette bleach (currently damaged) blond anybody can google that 1) you don't use heat 2) always use two or more highlights and lowlights 3) always use Olaplex and 4) always gloss and 5) send me home with recommended product (a no brainer? ) For SIX years I have tried "top salons" in Seattle NONE of which obeyed the aforementioned basics of quality coloring. Gary Manual = Fail , Blond = fail , Bowie Salon = fail, Antonio = fail ... Thousands of dollars spent on stylists not trained and who do not listen. Natalie clearly understood my needs of quality, damage control, blond, maintenance and not to mention she is hilarious. Life giving in all regards. She didn't rush treatments like "gloss" or "Olaplex" and didn't use heat to "Hurry" my process. All this equals healthier happier more beautiful hair. And oh!! Be very AWARE: Do NOT buy GROUPON for this Salon! It's a "lose-lose" deal for the customer. On our appointment day they canceled after getting there because Vera, the stylist said she had no time for Groupon $54.55 for value worth $138 all over color treatment but instead suggested a BALYAGE for which another day was rescheduled. Mind you! They never told us that Groupon would not apply for this. We thought because they canceled they were compensating us by offering another style to make up for our lost time. It all came as a big slap on our face after the fact. The least they could have done was given us heads up at their cancellation that if we agreed to their suggestion on balyage at rescheduled date, it would be separate from Groupon and would cost us more ($220). LOSE-LOSE! In that case, we would've stuck to Groupon deal: Present Groupon and get $138 worth of service as stated on Groupon ($54.99)! Nothing more nothing less! They don't understand that when a customer schedules an appointment, the business should set aside time to serve. First, they canceled our appointment, and then charged us $220 without considering Groupon service value. Instead, we got ripped, troubled and upset and no compensation, not even an apology! Only on the rescheduled day, Vera said that Balyage would cost more than Groupon but she also added that Groupon would cover it. By that time, my teenager's balyage coloring had already started. Was she supposed to stop and run? To us it meant that only $$ above $138 was due even though we would have wanted to use just our Groupon. We also paid a generous tip of $40 as Groupon suggests in all their deals but unfortunately no deal for us here. This salon was negligent, irresponsible and took advantage of our good faith in ethical business practice. The owner/s didn't seem to care even when I filed a complaint on BBB as they challenged my complaint with their lies invalidating it. Natalie is the greatest. Huge attention to detail. Personable. And a perfectionist without being unreasonable, logistically speaking. A few weeks back, on Valentine's day, I snuck in a quick blow out into my day last minute and, by chance, was booked with Natalie. She worked quickly and efficiently while still making sure I had a relaxing experience after a work day. I ended up pre-booking a painting session to break up and lend some warmth to my pitch black mane. She gave me stunning results, and still offered to squeeze me in the next day to do a second toner to make the great results just that much better. If you have a Groupon it is VERY difficult to get an appointment. I felt lied to when I tried to make an appointment. At first I was told there was nothing available. Knowing that it was only for particular stylist, I asked who these stylist were. I checked online and both of these stylist had appointments available. When I called back to question, I was told they could not accept Groupon appointments during those times. I have been looking for a new stylist. Lesson, do not use GroupOn to find a new one. They wouldn't be on Groupon if they were truly great. read more

I love this place. Brittainy is a goddess. I have really thick hair, wavy hair and it has experienced many terrible haircuts and colors. I was referred here by a friend, but didn't believe it could be as great as she said. I was wrong--It was better! Brittainy has amazing techniques that de-bulked and de-frizzed my hair. I have never had more blended long layers. Also, her hair painting is outstanding. It grew out so beautifully and naturally that I was able to postpone my next appointment 3 extra months! YESSSS! My hair looked horrible, it was dry and lifeless. No dimension! Brittany took care of me. Most salons I've been to take almost 2 hours to cut my hair and blow dry. She did it all in a little over an hour. My hair looks and feels amazing. I can't thank her enough. This is now my go to salon. And I found my go to stylist. I just have to say that I absolutely ADORE Margi David Salon! From location to service to ON-POINT execution on what exactly the customer wants, this salon can do it all. It's crazy some of the bad Groupon reviewers had such negative things to say (at such a good price), because not once have I experienced a negative time. But let's get real - it all comes down to the stylist and how well they listen and execute your fantasy hair style as you surrender your hair into their sheers. I have been going to the same stylist for some time now and I must say, SHE IS DA BOMB. What's her name? Who's that gorgeous, blonde fashion-ista with the killer sense of humor and a down-to-earth, relate-able personality who happens to be a master at coloring, extensions and layers? [possible run-on sentence] Oh - it must be... VERA. I'm sorry but I don't think I'll ever have another hair stylist as long as she is in the biz. Not only have I gotten EXACTLY what I asked for, but I have the time of my life talking to her about my dreams, aspirations, crazy life drama and laughs that make the time unfortunately pass a million times faster. What I like about her is how she will add her two cents when I'm indecisive because she simply knows what will look good on me the best. Sometimes, she'll stay later because she knows I'm about to go to an event and she will pretty me up from brow waxing to a full on make-up & hair styling transformation! On the same note, if I squeeze in a last minute appointment and need to be somewhere in short time, the owner David will chime in and help to execute what I want 2X faster! Everyone that works there is super intuitive and are all there for each other when a hair stylist needs a hand in a pinch which is amazing teamwork that I've witnessed. It's unbelievable the type of service I get from them. I feel sorry for those that haven't felt the same because I don't relate AT ALL. Because I've grown to love not only her expertise in hair styling and personality, we've become great friends and we'll carry our hair appointment to happy hour or dinner because she genuinely cares about my life. After coming here for years and referring so many of my friends to them, I may be getting the special treatment above others that just go to try it out for the first time, but that is what you get when you find what you like and stick with it! I now am one of the first to be called when they need a model for an event or promotion. I'm even starring in their TV screens that they have at each hair styling station for inspiration to clients that visit them. I feel like a celebrity when I walk in there and am pampered just when I need it most! This was my first time here for a haircut. I saw Natalie, who gracefully cut 8 inches of my lifeless hair. She did a really good job on the cut and style. She was a rough handler, I had to hold back a few times from crying because it hurt so much, but maybe because my head is super sensitive. This is my first time doing a Yelp review and the first time I think I've EVER rated something only 1 star. It seems like most people that go here take the Groupon route, and I was one of them. I bought the hair color package and scheduled a cut to go along with it. I made my appointment without too many hiccups, but 2 hours before they called to push it back then about 1/2 hour before they told me that they wouldn't have time to do a cut and color. I needed a cut so I just did that and scheduled my Groupon hair color for a few days later.. no biggie. The haircut was literally so bad I paid a different salon to get it fixed and didn't even want to use the Groupon hair color that I had already paid for. I told them this when I cancelled my appointment, and I believe it was pretty polite. The owner emailed me to ask for more details and I gave him them, but then he never responded to my email.. I think that's really weird and for that taking it down from 2 stars to 1 star. I own my own business and it just doesn't seem right to not address an issue. I wasted time and money and ended up with a HORRIBLE haircut. From the time I was a baby up until 8 years ago, I had only gotten my hair cut by my mom (she's a legit hair stylist). When she moved to France, I started cutting my own hair with clippers, but I got bored with that, and decided to try out different barbers and hair stylists. Vera does a great job.
