Short version: I highly recommend Margie's Jewelers for her customer care, her friendliness, her service orientation, and her ability to get things done that other folks can't. Also - if you're in the Honolulu area - she's got a great, convenient location right on Fort Street Mall. In particular in this case I'd been looking for the Casio 40th Anniversary Back to the Future collaboration. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to get one online as the bots and the flippers have been nabbing it every time it's reposted for sale. And I just fundamentally didn't want to reward a flipper by buying it for 3 times list price on eBay. Based on positive past experiences to buy jewelry, we decided to take in several pieces in to have repaired or custom designed. One was a 14K gold thin bangle (Ming's piece) that was cut and needed to be re-soldered. Another was a 14K earring that I wanted to turn into a pendant, since I only had one side (lost the other side years ago). The other order was transforming two loose beautiful fresh water pink pearls into earrings. She did a great job and have been wearing my new pendant daily! If you bring 1 watch, it's $8...bring 2 or more, it's $6 each. You leave it there and they'll give you a pick up ticket. You'll receive a call when it's ready which may be a week or less. So convenient...love it! A few days ago, I dropped off my Baby-G watch that has 2 batteries ($12)...they had changed it in Feb. of this year. Went to pick it up and was told they changed the batteries and didn't charge me! Thank you, Margie! Just wanted to mention...a couple of years ago, I brought in a wall clock because it wasn't working. Margie mentioned that the cost may be about $35. Service: Soldering Metal: Sterling Silver Came in to get a charm put onto a connector bail for my charm bracelet. The charm had a soldered jump ring so I couldn't connect the two pieces myself. I've had this Wenger watch for so long and live it because it has such a classic look and because I have a narrow wrist and the face fits me well. Sadly the watch was definitely showing its age, mostly the band as I had cuaght it on something before so it didn't quite fit as well and the snap buckle was so loose it would open at any moment. I finally decided to just replace the band, but it was such a challenge trying to find the original band so I took it to Margie who took a look a it and said that she could easily find a band that would fit. But before she did that she suggested I leave it with her to see what Glenn could do to make it fit better and tighten the snap. Well needless to say if you have read my reviews about the type of business they run here - my watch FITS GREAT and doesn't pop open whenever I move my wrist around! When I was in need of jewelry repair, I asked a good friend who her family uses. She immediately recommended Margie's Jewelers. It took me 6 months to get there (me? procrastinate? I'll tell you about that later ;-) ), but I'm glad I went. First off, since I work weekdays, I was really glad to know that Margie's has Saturday hours. Weekday parking Downtown is a pain...but not on Saturdays!! The store is located right on the Merchant Street edge (mauka/Ewa) of Fort Street Mall and parking is easy to find on Bishop Street. Both times I went, I parked right outside of Longs. Bonus: there's at Starbucks conveniently on your way from Bishop to Fort Street! Margie is really nice, and she looked at my necklace that needed repairing, estimated my cost and let me know that she'd inform me if it cost more or less. I also asked if they do other repairs, such as Rolex refurbishment (as my family was looking into that, and was told by another store here that Rolexes have to be shipped to the Mainland). Margie has a Rolex trained repair technician that is local! Do not be fooled like we were. Margie let me know that my repair would take about a week, so I was very surprised to get her call 4 days later, telling me that it was done. I picked up my necklace, and it's as good as new. I'm not sure if I read another review, or if someone told me, but Margie used to be affiliated with Kakesako Brothers, a well-liked, longtime Downtown jeweler that unfortunately closed in the '90's, if I recall correctly. That made me feel very comfortable with her. It's been a while since I've had a jewelry shop that I trusted for repairs--the one I used to use closed about 5 years ago. I was worried about my Rolex getting water inside of the face of the watch! I called 3 dealers in town and they said they would need to send it out, send it to NYC and the shortest time given for me to get back my watch was 3 weeks! Yikes! To my rescue Margie said to please bring my watch in as soon as possible so she can have her watchmaker take care of it! I rushed down, she took my watch and assured me that everything will be ok! To my delight she called me a few days later to let me know that my watch was was taken cared of and in great condition. I'm a huge fan! I've been putting off taking these watches to get fixed (battery changed and some weird screw keeps coming out of one). Just from walking in the door it's a very nice little store, clean and well kept. Tomorrow when I pick up my last two watches I will get their names but looks like Margie and Mr. Margie that are working in the store themselves. Extremely nice people, I felt so much more at ease after telling her about my situation. First great tip, $8.00 for 1 watch battery change or $6 for 2 watches. There is a little sign on the center display that tells you this so its no secret. I also needed my spare car key battery changed but major problem with the screw being warped so they kept it over night and drilled the screw out and changed battery. So happy to finally have that out of the way! Total bill was under $20! Since I had more watches to be fixed I brought them in today and will pick them up tomorrow! I assume typically the service is a next day thing but common sense tells me that it would take longer for things other than batteries or screws so for those that have selective reading this is a warning to not expect overnight service EVERY SINGLE TIME. If you have a water proof watch, it requires a special procedure and equipment to insure the seal. Margie knows exactly how to replace any type of watches (high to low end). This is the old school mom and pop kind of store which takes pride in their services. At $8 for a battery change, you are guaranteed personalized service and professional work. They request one hour to replace the battery. Give them a call before you stop by because the service man may or may not be working. I was very pleased with the overall service I received here. My watch issue: the face crystal popped out of its casing, and the misalignment allowed moisture to get into the watch. Fearing rusting of inner parts, I quickly took my watch here for repair. The watchmaker shaved down the crystal and resealed it with cement, dried my watch out under the heat lamps, and replaced the low quality battery that Sears put in (per the Watchmaker, the Sears replacement tends to leak). He even buffed out the scratches on the face crystal! Total cost to resolve my issue: $8. Sears had charged me $25 two weeks earlier for battery replacement. I received courteous treatment, and the well mannered, soft-spoken Watchmaker was thorough in describing the steps he took to resolve my issue and also explained areas of concern with my Armani watch. It would be hard to beat the price, customer service, and level of expertise of Margie's Jewelers. This is the only Watchmaker I will ever use for watch repairs/battery replacements. read more

Overall, really happy with my experience here! My mom had been going to Kakesako for years and since they closed she has been going to Margie's. She suggested that I come here when I first began looking for an engagement ring. Margie was super helpful in explaining the various options and helping me to find exactly what I had in mind. I don't think she keeps a lot of rings in stock so whatever you choose is pretty much custom made. After I told Margie what I had in mind she had a wax mold made before we went ahead with the real thing. She also let me bring in a ring to get the right size so that I didn't have to ask my then girlfriend for her size. Margie gave me a really great price and the ring was ready in a couple weeks. It turned out even nicer then expected and my fiance was really happy with it! She also gets a lot of compliments about it. Definitely check out Margie's for any type of jewelry. Wow! How did I not hear of this place before? It took an actual person telling me to go here... not Yelp! First time that happened in a LONG time! Anyway, I had to fix my watch band because it was too big. Last time, I took my watch to Sears Ala Moana (I didn't know where else to go) and it costed me around $13. It wasn't much but that isn't an option anymore. So my coworker took me here when he had to get his watch battery changed and his watch polished. I brought my watch, thinking it would be a long tedious process. All in all, we took about 10 minutes because my coworker ended up talking to the owner for about a good 8 minutes while my watch was getting adjusted. It was an awesome deal at $5!!! WOW! The service was exceptional and they are really friendly. Fast forward a few more months, my other coworker wanted to change her batteries in her watches and I wanted to change a band and get another one fixed. SAgain, it was quick but we did leave my coworkers watches there overnight so they could change the batteries. The owner lady said she would call if there was a problem. She did call me again this morning to tell me there was a problem and explained that she would call when it's ready. Just a note, if you bring in 2 or more watches to get the batteries changed, it's only $6/watch. What a deal! I remember my dad (who doesn't care too much about coupons/deals) clipping coupons any time he saw the Sears coupon for watch repair/battery change. If only he found out about this place sooner!! Likes: Really convenient location if you work downtown. The lady was really friendly, and I was in and out of the store in a minute to drop off my watches. Service was quick because I came back the next day after 9AM and they even took out the condensation out of one of my watches. Price is really good ($6 a battery if you bring 2+ watches). Needed a ring cut off since with all the hand washing, I'd developed an infection beneath it, and my knuckle is too swollen with arthritis to get it over it. They took great effort to cut through the very thick gold band, stopping when I indicated it was too painful. It was close quarters for them in the time of COVID19 but they were patient and kind. Great experience getting a string of pearls restrung at Margie's. I called Margie's based off of a friend's recommendation and spoke with Margie about the approximate cost. I was told over the phone depending on the length and number of pearls a base estimate was $45 and up. I went in with the pearls I wanted restrung and a couple of other strands which had been lying around broken in my mom's drawer for years which we doubted were real and gave them to Margie to get her opinion on whether or not they were costume jewelry. She said she'd ask an associate since she couldn't tell right off the bat whether or not they were real or costume and then give me a call about restringing them. I got a call about a week later confirming my suspicions that they were most likely faux pearls. Margie asked if I wanted them restrung but I declined and decided to do my own craft project with the faux pearls. Which cost at least $40 for the materials(silk thread, tweezers, glue, etc.) When I picked up my restrung pearls the total cost came in just under $40. They cleaned up the tarnished silver clasp and the necklace looks as good as new! You can even make out the itty bitty Mikimoto stamp on the clasp. The necklace may not be worth much in the resale market, but it's definitely worth much more than the $40 I spent to restring them. They were an omiyage present from my great grandfather to my mother when she was in high school in the 1950's. I am very happy that I can wear an "heirloom" piece of jewelry which otherwise would be sitting in a drawer somewhere forgotten and unused. read more
