Are you in the mood for some delicious chilaquiles or country fried steak? Look no further because Mari Vees is the place to be. The food quality and quantity surpassed my expectations. The service was quick since we did get there at 8 am but the food quality didn't lack based on the quick service. I'm excited to come back and try their matcha/chicken Cesar salad wrap. My aunt and I were looking for a new lunch spot and we totally found it here at Mari Vees. We came around 9:45 on a Thursday morning and there was no wait. We chose to sit inside, but they also have patio seating as well. We quickly ordered their My pistachio latte and cafe latte. The Cafe latte came out really hot (which is what we wanted) but my pistachio latte was lukewarm and it had more of a Matcha flavor to it than pistachio. Both looked so cute and tasted good but I preferred their cafe latte. My aunt ordered their American Breakfast and I ordered their Good Morning Omelette (basically build your own omelette). Their dishes were really good, especially their home fries. My aunts eggs and bacon came out perfect. My omelette tasted really fresh with lots of fresh veggies, like spinach, mushrooms, and ham. The only hiccup that we had was that the food took almost an hour to come out. I think they had an issue with the ticket, and didn't get put in so it came out way later. Our waiter Fabian was very apologetic and gave us a discount on our bill. Because of the friendly service and the good food, we will definitely be back to try other items.

Had breakfast here for the first time and I absolutely loved everything about this cute little cafe. They serve a variety of dishes that are generously portioned. Our favorite was their blueberry French toast and huevo rancheros. The cherry on top was the service. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and helpful. The background music was just right for a beautiful Sunday morning. They have an outdoor patio as well and parking is plenty. Definitely looking forward to my next visit!

Mari Vees is a brunch and lunch spot located in San Marino. They don't take reservations and there was a bit of a wait on the weekend so we eventually decided to split our group of four so we could get seated and eating sooner. They serve your classic American breakfast fare like waffles and pancakes but also serve other breakfast foods like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and loco moco. I ordered the champ ($25) which was a massive burger containing beef, cheddar, bacon, pastrami, and avocado. Note that it also comes with a lot of mustard; fortunately I didn't mind but it was a surprising amount if you're not a fan of it. I also tried and liked the breakfast burrito ($20). They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and there's some street parking just outside. I don't know if I was just hungry but everything on the menu looked good so I'll have to come by to try their other offerings.

Amazing find. I must've passed this place a million times but never noticed it. I'm glad my sister recommended it for our sister date. Decent prices, delicious food and coffee, and a super friendly staff. Definitely try the blueberry French toast. It was my favorite part.

    Overcooked "poached" eggs Benedict

This is different than my usual reviews, as I'd much rather elevate businesses and support their growth rather than point out the negatives. But this one deserves a bit more detail for the 3 stars. We came here at my husband's cravings for eggs Benedict for his birthday brunch. It was a Saturday around 1PM. There were crowds, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy. I will say they seemed well staffed, which made service feel prompt and welcomed. Everyone in the team appeared friendly. The person who made our lattes also made an effort to clarify our order (lattes with Oatmilk with cream foam - which u know can be confusing. I'm giving up whole milk for the fats and lactose, but a little bit of cream won't hurt). We chose Mari Vees over other nearby spots mainly because of the style and ambiance, which truly delivered... beautiful, modern, and inviting on Yelp. We ordered the iced Spanish latte, iced matcha latte, classic eggs Benedict, and chilaquiles with beef. As soon as the plates landed on our table, before we even had a chance to taste anything, a well-dressed gentleman (who seemed more senior than the rest of the staff) came over and asked how everything was. We felt compelled to give the automatic "everything is good." To be fair, the flavors did hit the spot. The lattes were yummy (and shoutout to the cute aesthetics), the chilaquiles were perfectly savory, and the sauce on the eggs Benedict was rich and creamy. However, the reason this lands at 3 stars is the eggs Benedict itself. The poached eggs were overcooked. Poached eggs should be runny and creamy, not firm. We brought this up to our server, Jeremiah, but he responded that it was "poached hard." I was confused... was that intentional? I checked the menu again (good thing I take pictures), and it simply says "poached eggs." Later, when we were paying, the same gentleman returned, who I inquired and learned goes by the name, Victor. This time, he didn't ask about our experience, but I knew I had to say something. I shared praise along with a lighthearted and humorous question about the overcooked eggs. He admitted they should be runny and said "we should have told them"... BUT WE DID! I debated addressing it in person versus sharing here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it felt like the team wasn't equipped to properly handle feedback. Instead of acknowledging the issue, we felt dismissed and gaslighted. I still gave a 18% tip (our total was $60+) , slight lower than our usual 20%... but I know everyone works hard in there. Overall, it had the potential to be a great experience, but the mishap left a sour note and pretty much ruined our afternoon. Not sure we'll be back.

Eggs made with mainly oil? Flavorless

The service was great and the ambiance was lovely. My waffle was good, they syrup was a highlight, and the berries were sweet and fresh. But everything was made with subpar ingredients. The whipped cream was oil based and not at all delicious. The hot chocolate I ordered was made by a machine, and tasted mostly of water and the aforementioned oily whipped cream. It was cute but not tasty. My eggs seemed fake as well, very oily and bland. My friend ordered an omelet and reported that the sausage tasted odd. The egg was prepared like a tortilla and the long list of vegetables were just slapped inside instead of incorporated into the dish. She ordered a pancake because the omelet was such a disappointment I'm longing for a good pancake place with really butter. This is not the place.

Surprisingly easy to get a walk-in table for our larger group on a Saturday morning during brunch. So props for that. However, taking a star off for the awkward bathroom experience- you have to meander through the kitchen and it's in the back by the dishwasher. Food was okay- my husband liked his big burger. My tomato soup was okay- didn't know if it was house made? And my sister thought the chilaquiles was too soggy.

Best Moco Loco in town!!! The Benedict hollandaise sause is perfect! The pancakes are incredible! The ambiance and service are top notch! Nancy is an amazing server! Totally recommend this amazing spot!

    Chilaquiles

Of all the food I had in LA during my quick 3-day trip, Mari Vees was my favorite. Charming little restaurant in Pasadena that has that Spanish architecture and aesthetic. Our waitress was very friendly and checked in on us often. I was debating between chilaquiles and the banana walnut pancakes so she suggested I get a single pancake and the chilaquiles. I decided to try chilaquiles for the first time finally! It is something I have wanted to try for a long time but wanted to find a place that specializes in it, and seeing that it was the most photographed entree on yelp, I knew I was in for a treat! It was so good I let out an "mmm" my first few bites. The tortilla chips weren't soggy and retained some crunch despite being drenched in delicious sauce. Love the drizzle of sour cream and I think crumbles of queso fresco on top. The fresh avocado and onion paired perfectly as well, as did the runny egg yolk. If I lived in the area I'd be back all the time. The banana walnut pancake was deliciousss, I absolutely loved the maple butter it came with. There was banana and walnut pieces in the pancake batter as well as on top. So good. Finally, I loved my refreshing Iced Spanish Latte. The cream foam on top with cinnamon gave it a powerful finish. Nice and sweet as I like it thanks to the condensed milk :)

Hubby & I have really been enjoying Mari Vees! Weekend brunch/lunch time can get quite crowded and wait times may be over 30 mins., so just be prepared as they do have a sign-in sheet waitlist that is pretty much first-come-first-serve. Portions here are big & prices are standard/reasonable as any other brunch/lunch place in the area. Both indoor & outdoor seating is available. Restaurant inside is clean and bright. They have a board on the wall with their specials (not sure how often they change). Hubby has enjoyed their "Champ" Burger (comes with a basket of Fries) & Breakfast Burrito (comes with Chips & salsa). I'm a big fan of their Chilaquiles (added beef/steak) because they do a great job soaking the chips in their salsa rojo. (My only small gripe is I wish they had some pickled veggies with it to make it really the best I've ever had, lol). Their Mari Vees Omelet was fluffy & filling, would recommend as well. Hubby really wishes they would have just a pastrami sandwich/burger available from the pastrami of "The Champ!!" burger and I agree. The burger is filling, but can get a little messy. We had bites of just the pastrami and it is *chef's kiss* so we can only imagine if it was on its own in a sandwich that it'd be quite good as well! All the coffee I've tried so far has been good. Their Iced Spanish Latte is refreshing if it's warm out & their Mocha (mix it, even if you ruin the cute foam stamp) is a cinnamon-ey chocolately warm coffee for those chillier days. One unisex restroom available Parking is limited to street parking on Huntington Dr. or nearby neighborhood cross streets (i.e. San Marino Ave.) if you don't mind the walk.

I had a great time here. The waiters are attentive and I believe that was the business owner who came and check up on my brother and I. The ambiance well they have an inside and an outside place for you to sit. I sat in the inside and it is medium size area. The food was amazing the reviews are accurate. I enjoyed the banana and walnut pancakes and they were so fluffy. My brother got a burrito and it was so packed and a great size burrito. I got some tostada with egg on top. I want to come back for more pancakes and the matcha Oreo was okay. I do want to try their coffee selections.

We didn't have any of the brunch dishes this visit--we specifically came for the coffee and pastries--but after this experience, we'll definitely be coming back to try the food next time. The cortado was made with Boxx Coffee Roasters beans, and after chatting with the barista, I learned they also have a dedicated water filtration system specifically for their coffee. That level of attention to detail isn't something you expect from every brunch café, and it definitely showed in the final cup. The cortado was well executed. The milk was smoothly integrated with the espresso, creating a balanced body that held together throughout the drink instead of separating after a few sips. It was served in the proper glass with clean presentation and solid latte art. The temperature was slightly hotter than my personal preference, which is understandable in a brunch setting, but overall it was a great cortado and far better than what many brunch cafés serve. The pain au chocolat was outstanding as well and a perfect pairing with the cortado. The service made the visit even better. Our server, Michael (aka Bev), was welcoming, attentive, and provided excellent service from start to finish. I also had the chance to compliment the barista on the cortado. Although I didn't get her name, she was very kind, took a few minutes to explain their coffee program, and shared that they use Boxx Coffee beans along with a dedicated water system to ensure the cleanest possible cup. The chicken club was nothing to write home about. On the plus side, the pastries were fantastic. I even tolerated the raisins so I could devour the orange wheel croissant. Monkey bread was perfect, not too sweet.

And also there is a Jasmine Latte with Espresso in it, but that is under the Espresso section. I was able to get it chilled but without ice. The lowest sweetness level was 50%, but I asked nicely and they estimated they could make a 25% for me. It turned out wonderfully, extremely floral, barely any sweetness so the Jasmine aroma and taste were the dominant ones. In the food side I selected the popcorn chicken. I can take some heat but only a small bit, so I asked for the spice powder in the side. I just looove the texture of the popcorn chicken. You can see in the picture that it's a very thin breading, almost not there, but the texture seems almost as if an invisible rice flour was tossed in the outside. Still juicy in the inside, and small pieces to make every bite pop-able. The chicken comes with a ranch sauce, though to me it's a second thought. Add a hint of spice or even have the chicken as is, no ranch is needed.

My favorite drink is the brown sugar latte (I'd recommend 25% or 50% sweetness), followed by the Thai tea latte. Cons: Traditional espresso drinks feel more modernized than authentic. On my most recent visit (Friday around 10:20 a.m.), I ordered a cappuccino that took 15 minutes to receive and was surprised it only came in 12 oz or 16 oz. The ube and hojicha lattes were decent, but I've had better elsewhere. Parking in front is limited to 15 minutes, but there's additional one-hour parking in the rear.

Was in Pasadena the other day, and had not eaten yet, so decided to go by Nick's, since I had never…read morebeen, and try a few of the items that sounded tasty on the menu. Made a reservation about an hour before, so when we got there we were seated immediately. After a quick glance at the drink menu, had to get the Mai Tai with lilikoi foam on top. So delicious. Had my first lilikoi foam in Maui and I love that I'm starting to see it around Los Angeles now. Adds such a punch of flavor to an after we balanced drink. For food, we started with the bacon deviled eggs and shrimp taquitos. Those deviled eggs were lightly fried, which was different, then had apple wood smoked bacon on top, just a really tasty bite. The shrimp taquitos were also not what you would expect, nice and light but still very good. Entrees we went with the center cut fillet and the prime rib dip with swiss cheese on a brioche bun. That sandwich just melts if your mouth after dipping it in the jous, and the cheese was the perfect accompiament. The fillet was cooked perfect as well, coming out medium rare. Overall, great restaurant in Pasadena. Definitely get the Mai Tai, Devine eggs and prime rib dip. Taquitos were good and, if you're feeling like another hg er appetizer, definitely a way to go . The fillet, also great but I feel you can get it anywhere.

If you are looking for a reliable spot primarily for a great atmosphere, this traditional American…read morerestaurant fits the bill. The food is fairly decent overall, though it delivers a very typical American menu experience. The offerings rarely change, and while reliable, there is nothing truly extraordinary or memorable standing out in the flavor profile. Ambiance: The atmosphere is the main draw here. It is comfortable and inviting, making it a great backdrop for a casual outing. Service: The service is a bright spot--friendly, attentive, and consistently good. Overall, it is a pleasant, dependable neighborhood restaurant that is worth visiting for the vibe and good service, even if the menu keeps things safe and familiar.
