Updating my review because I'm still in love with Maria Bonita. I've been visiting since I was a child and would only order papas fritas or a bean burrito with no cheese. They've always been patient, kind, and welcoming. I've spent countless birthdays wearing a sombrero and getting tricked with whipped cream landing on my nose. I've grown up at Maria's and it's a staple for my family. I dream about their salsa. I crave the chicken tortilla soup. Some favorites: any burrito and especially the chicken burrito a la ranchera. Floutas or the flour taquitos (king chicken) or the club quesadilla. I'm not into carnitas but my dad loves it. The enchiladas and fajitas are superb. Even the salads are good choice and I'm into the tostada salad. Tacos? Salad? Soup? A burger and fries? I don't care what you're into, Maria's has a dish for you. Oh and the drinks! Cadillac margarita is the go to for most. I'm a sucker for a Modelo Negra in an ice cold mug. As long as they're in business, I'll be a patron. Service as always was excellent. But the prices have gone up so much that I'm not sure when we will be back. When they charge 5.25 for jalapeños to be put in my quesadilla that cost them maybe 29 cents. Give me a break. We had a quesadilla no sides with jalapeño added 20 + dollars a taco and rellano. Soda water and beer. With tip 74 dollars. Yeah we won't be back very soon. To bad because we have been coming here for more than 20 years. They are pricing themselves out of business. read more

Our small town would be lost without this place. Long time standing restaurant and history in Agua Dulce and it shows through with food and hospitality. The wait staff and bartender are the gems of this place that make sure you feel like part of the family when dining here. They are super accommodating for requests and always happy to do so. There's a lot of Mexican restaurants around SCV, and Acton but I can easily say that Maria Bonitas is the best on every level. The mole enchiladas are my absolute favorite. The bean dip (complimentary) is to die for. Tasty and strong drinks which you won't get at a lot of other establishments. The taco Tuesday is a great deal $2 tacos with loads of meat and the green salsa....chefs kiss. If you are ever around Vasquez rock hiking or just feel like going somewhere that feels like home, check them out... you'll be glad you did. read more

Honestly this was one of the best Mexican food I've had. It was fresh, flavorful, and abundant! We had just left a Joshua Tree park and found this location to be very close. The service was a bit slow at the beginning but it did improve. My only complaint is how long the food took. Everyone that came after us got their food first. It more so because this unimposing restaurant is nestled in the small town of Agua Dulce. That being said, the vibe of the restaurant is pretty cool. It's nice and sizable portions. The workers were also really nice! I ordered the Camarrones Maria and it was delicious! It came with shrimp covered in bacon (which I've never had at a Mexican restaurant, rice ( the got two orders of rice because I didn't get the beans, and a salad. We love the food, the service is outstanding and every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday. The entire Agua Dulce neighborhood goes to Maria Bonita on Tuesday and Fridays. The bar tender Ramon, knows what you drink and brings your drinks as soon as you sit down. Angel the waiter brings chips and salsa, and Alma brings silverware and water as soon as you sit down. We sit in the bar where they have big booths and we enjoy Karaoke on Fridays. Fun place, and the Baja Fish Tacos are delicious along with many items on the menu. Highly recommend!! read more

Last night was our first time here. As it was quite a long distance from our home, we only went on the recommendation of a friend. Upon being seated, they immediately provide you with tortilla chips, salsa, and amazing bean dip. We each started with a small dinner salad, which was very fresh with very crisp lettuce. My wife ordered one shredded beef taco which came with beans and rice, and I ordered the two item combination with a shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada with beans and rice. After a hike at the rocks, I went here for lunch. I see bottled cokes and decide I will order some. $4.11? Ouch but no worries. I get my order and there are no cokes. I ask - excuse me, where are my cokes that were $4.11 x 2 = $8.22. They give me two fountain drinks in a plastic cup. I tell them for $4.11 per coke I don't get a coke in a glass bottle that I see in the little fridge? Nope. Apparently, those are more money. I pass on paying more since even in LA/NY/SF a glass coke isn't $4.11 so I am confused as to why in a small town that doesn't have as expensive of real estate I am being gouged for a coke. $4.11 for a glass coke is Dodger stadium / movie theater prices. This was an unfortunate encounter since the burrito and enchiladas we had from them were quite good and I probably would have left a 4 or 5-star review but the fact that they forgot the cokes I ordered (and I would have left out $8.22 in drinks) and that $4.11 doesn't get you a bottled coke was a bit much for me. I eat Mexican food all the time in Los Angeles and a $50 lunch is a bit steep. Perhaps the idea is they get all the hikers from the nearby park. I won't be going back. read more

Do not eat here. They charge an additional 4% if paying by credit card, which is stated on the menu, but they charged us 8% per item! The chicken tacos just had a smear of chicken on the bottom of the tortilla, and my margarita was premixed and tasted purely of triple sec. Place has good food/ staff is super nice BUT... the bathrooms need an upgrade. For the men's bathrooms they look abandoned & to get soap to wash you hands you literally have to push the button up where the soap comes out to get soap. Monday May 31, 2021 at 8:10 PM Entered Maria Bonita's Mexican Restaurant patio and waited at the host(ess) stand/signage to be seated. Noticed a handwritten sign on the wall The sign said Due to unfortunate incidents, during limited capacity, ANY PETS must have up to date service pet papers. Indoor OR outdoor. Sorry for the inconvenience, we love pets too, but they have made things difficult in a already difficult time. Things will change when we are FULLY operational. We overheard an employee inside the building say "these people have a dog". Host (name unknown) walked out and said "we don't allow dogs". I explained that she is a task trained service dog and allowed entrance under ADA law. He then asked to see her registration/certificate. I pulled up the ADA website and showed/read them the FAQ page Q.17 pertaining to certification and registration which states: Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry. There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certification or registration documents online. These documents do not convey any rights under the ADA and the Department of Justice does not recognize them as proof that the dog is a service animal. I also handed them an ADA card, a Service Dog Etiquette card, and an ESA SD comparison card. He went inside to consult with the manager/owner and returned with a screenshot of a "registered emotional support animal" ID card, saying that my service dog would only be allowed inside with one of these. I reiterated that those are scams, not recognized, and legally cannot be required. I stated "she is a task trained service dog, would you like a list of her tasks?" He declined and insisted I show "papers" for her. I offered to write down that she is a service dog and sign and date it with my contact information but they declined again. Finally the owner/manager came out and said we couldn't come in without papers. I asked "so you are refusing to serve me because of my service dog?" The owner/manager said "unless you show me papers, you cant be here." We left because they were unwilling to listen and the confrontation had triggered a medical episode. Since there was a possible language barrier (English/Spanish), one of my friends (also a service dog handler) who speaks Spanish called the restaurant to try to explain. um hi I was made aware of a sign that you guys have hung up in your restaurant and I just wanted to make you guys aware that its breaking some federal laws okay? um so according to ADA law you guys aren't really, you're not supposed to ask for paperwork for service animals. okay, okay look let me tell you something girl if you don't show me anything to prove it's a special dog, it's a pet. Pets are not allowed. sorry for any inconvenience okay but um I just wanted to make you guys aware that you aren't allowed to ask for documentation. You guys are allowed to ask these two specific questions. You guys can ask "is that a service animal required because of a disability" and you guys can ... (they hung up on her) read more

I'm a stickler for customer service and this place offers that. Is it the best Mexican food ever? No... But it's good! And I don't say that to say that it's bad. I tend to get the same thing every time I go to Maria Bonita's. Flautas... That's my favorite Mexican dish anywhere. They come out crispy, fluffy, and fresh every time! And don't forget the bottomless chips and salsa. Every time they come out they are always hot, crispy, and not stale. I love the Mexican theme while sitting in a booth. Plus, this isn't a review for this visit specifically but also... the happy hour in the bar is pretty awesome because they offer snacks when you buy drinks. Who can't get behind that... I recommend this place for the service and that local country vibe. You get to support a local restaurant versus Chili's... If you're in the neighborhood I recommend stopping by. This is our favorite Mexican food restaurant. We LOVE the homemade bean dip & salsa served with the tortilla chips. It's a large roomy family-run business. They excel at every dish we've eaten there (once/week for over 10 years!). Prices are competitive with others but the food quality is above average. So worth the drive for a satisfying meal! I love all the tostadas (but especially the fajitas one & the avocado one). Hubby loves the huevos con anything...It's generally not too crowded (unless there's a party celebration) but we try to go before 7 p.m. s we're old....so grateful to have this gem in our repetoire! read more

Stopped in here earlier today with my boyfriend on our way to Santa Clarita for a bathroom break and quick bite and found our new favorite spot! We had a lovely conversation with a man who works here who told us it is a small town and they know everyone who comes in by name. We ordered their Fajita Quesadilla with Steak and it came with beans, rice, and chips with amazing salsa. The Quesadilla was amazing and the sides were outstanding. Walked in for dinner at 6:30pm, was acknowledged but asked to wait....they would be right back. Employee proceeded to the bar where he made 8 margaritas for a table, walked by us twice and 10 minutes later we were still waiting by front door not seated, or acknowledged again. All the employees behind the bar seemed to be having a good time, but did not appear to be interest in serving anyone new. Would have been less rude it they had just said....seat yourself!
