I paid $44 for the thinnest least flavorful ribeye I've ever had. It was like 2 piece of meat from a sandwich stayed together thin...and if it's was 5 oz 2 of those ozs were grizzle and fat... And it had no flavor. Seriously the refried beans on the table were the best thing I had...I should have gone to chilis... $260 for 6 of us (3 kids) and I'm legitimately embarrassed that I picked this place for how tasteless it was. When I went I was seated quickly despite them being busy and got drinks shortly after, the menu has so much variety, and it all looked great. Came for lunch/dinner. Ask for a table far away from everyone else so I could do a conference call. The host completely delivered and put me in the back in a booth by myself. I was able to make my call and order food. All the tacos had four to an order. I asked if I could mix two tacos, my favorite of the two was the tacos Al Pastor- it came with fresh pineapple. Dad and aunt visited and wanted to check out La Cantera, decided to dine in! Came in on a Saturday around 1230, was easily seated. Our waiter was very helpful and patient with all our requests. Came here for dinner after some shopping & was greeted/treated very kindly by the staff. We ordered the Tilapia & Shrimp, Octopus & Shrimp ceviche, & the Chicken w/ Potatoes. Palenque is a solid pick for some authentic Mexican food. They rarely disappoint. I always try the Mole options when they're available at Mexican restaurants. The enchiladas were chock full of shredded chicken and very filling. The mole sauce was good, although a little bland. I prefer it to have a little more heat along with that chocolaty goodness. AMAZING FOOD! Oh my gosh everything was great! I loved the Al Pastor! I wish I could recreate it at home!!! I loved my steak dish and it was cooked perfectly and they were so careful with my allergy! Went on Sunday, 2-15 at 5:30pm which is before the big dinner rush. And service was abominable. First, drinks delivered were completely wrong. Waited for new drinks and when they came my margarita flight was like drinking nectar. Second, order prime fajitas with shrimp for two with flour tortillas. When those came- only corn tortillas, no plates, no napkins, no follow up service until we were done eating. By that time, I was ready to just leave. It wasn't busy so no excuses. My husband likes their food which is why we went, but I told him I wouldn't go again. He agreed service was horrible too but his comments were about the amount of food given for 2 people. For the price you should be able to make more than 3 tacos. All around a bad night for Palenque Grill. Only giving 2 stars because I did being home 6 corn tortillas to feed the deer. read more

I typically have a great time at Palenque grill, it's still something I recommend they have great service and food. This time around I wanted to try something different and I was not a fan! The food seemed very bland and unfortunately came out cold. When we notified the server they immediately took it back, it took them around 15 minutes to bring back the meal. Palenque Grill is by far my favorite restaurant in La Cantera! If you've never been here before, Palenque Grill specialized in authentic Mexican food. Throughout the years I've tried multiple items from their menu and everything has always been delicious and cooked to perfection. If you don't know what to order here are my main recommendations: - If you want something in the healthier side, I highly recommend their pollo a la plancha which is grilled chicken with a side of rice and veggies. But please don't think this is just a plain chicken, the owner of this restaurant was the founder of El Pollo Loco, and I believe he uses the same seasoning from the rotisserie chicken in this dish. - If you are craving tacos, I highly recommend their tacos carretoneros which is your classic bistec tacos. - If you just want to snack on something while grabbing drinks with friends, you have to order their chicharrones ribeye. Which is ribeye steak but fried and it comes with guacamole. It is unbelievably delicious and I can assure you, you've never had anything like it before. Last but not least, let's not forget about their complimentary beans and salsa. God knows what they put in those beans, but they are highly addictive and I swear it is hard to stop eating them after you had the first bite. read more

Great spot! I had been here some time ago and can't believe I forgot about this gem. The waiter was very friendly and speedy. He checked on us the appropriate amount of times and the food, as usual, was delicious! I love their corn on the cob the way it's seasoned and the panchos were enormous. I came to visit here out of town on a business trip and I had an amazing experience! I sat outside on the nice patio, and I got to enjoy a live performance with someone singing songs. The staff was extremely accommodating and multiple people came to check on me to make sure I was doing okay. I really enjoy the vibe here! It's spacious yet feels cozy, especially during the week. While I think some of the food prices are a bit high, the quality makes up for it. I tried the sirloin steak tacos, and the meat was cut in a surprising way--it wasn't chopped! But it still tasted great. One little tip: the service could use some improvement. My water didn't get refilled, and there were a few delays with the appetizers. I even had to get up to find my server on a quiet night since he was chatting in the kitchen! My husband and I went to Palenque Grill yesterday and decided to keep it light, just an appetizer and a drink. Once our server, Ramon, realized we weren't ordering a full meal, his demeanor changed immediately. He went from friendly and attentive to visibly disappointed and bitter. From that point on, his service declined sharply. He never offered to refill our iced tea or water, only checked on my alcoholic drink (a skinny margarita). It was clear that because we weren't running up a big tab, he wasn't interested in providing the same level of service. The food itself was good, but service matters just as much as taste. We stopped in for a quick bite and a drink to hold us over until dinner, not everyone comes in for a $150 feast. Regardless of the bill total, paying customers deserve respectful and attentive service. Because of this experience, I will not be returning, and I'd caution others who expect consistent service no matter what they order. read more

My fam and I made a trip to La Cantera Resorts for a little R&R and sitting by the pool drinking frozen drinks made us hungry. Yelp pointed me in the direction of this place which was a very short drive from the resort. Parking was plentiful and the place was not busy so we were in and out quick. Customer service was ok. We came later in the evening so I'm sure the staff was ready to go. I was in the mood for spicy so the waiter suggested I get the Puntas de Filete al Albañil. This was one of the few dishes with the "very hot" symbol next to it. This was basically a carne guisada but in a very spicy gravy. They used quality sirloin tips and potatoes that was cooked perfectly and was very tender. It was also served with pretty decent rice and beans. The whole plate was messy but delicious. A few bites in I was saying it wasn't that hot, but that heat snuck up on me out of nowhere. My hair started to look like I just got out of the pool at the resort. They do have a mild version, but I would still get the spicy version again. The fam all enjoyed their food as well. Overall, a solid meal apart from the abundance of chains in this touristy area. We loved our large booth in the back and the attentive service we got. My Mar Y Tierra was good, but not great. I upgraded to the Premium Ribeye and Stuffed Shrimp but was disappointed in the Ribeye. No flavor and extremely fatty. The Shrimp were divine though. So succulent and flavorful. Loved them! My wife loved her roasted chicken, as I did. While visiting Texas, we wanted Authentic Mexican and my hubby found this place in the La Cantera area. Oh My Goodness!!!!! Where do I start? Starters - chips and salsa!! I've never had refried beans as a chip dip. They don't do a tomato based salsa like in most NC salsas. The darker one in the photo tasted like grilled peppers. My husband and our waiter spoke Spanish to try and give me a description of what it was. Yes - my palate was correct, it's several types of grilled peppers and I'm still unsure how they made it. But the combination of it AND the beans on a homemade chip - heaven!! My husband ordered the Pollo Asada Tori and it was AMAZING! (And a lot of food). I ordered the fajitas de pollo and it was all served with fresh, warm tortillas (flour and corn). To top off the meal was the serenading at our table. I haven't been to Palenque Grill in a few years, and I noticed that the menu has changed significantly. The chips served were different from what I remembered, and the beans lacked the delicious chorizo blend they used to have--just blah.. We ordered the Parrillada for two, but the meat quality was disappointing and not what I had expected. Including the shrimp- just not good. On a positive note, the Caldo de Albóndigas de Camarón was delicious, although it's now an off-menu item. The service, however, was good. read more
