I had been looking forward to experiencing Soluna with a bigger party than four, and although I have yet to dine at Paloma, I was more than happy with how the afternoon unfolded. My family and my sisters-in-law joined us, and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch together. The service was attentive, the ambiance was beautiful, and the overall experience was simply delightful. Meh. Nice clean little spot. The server asked if I wanted beef with the queso appetizer then brought out the entrees with no mention of the queso. Seems like there are a ton of servers moving about the patio but we got the one who doesn't seem to know where he's at today. All the others made sure we had filled water and fresh chips. We visited around 4:30 on a Friday evening and we were able to get a table right away. I ordered the strawberry chispa (my first chispa!) and it was strong and good. I came here for dinner with some coworkers on a Thursday night. The inside is so vivid and colorful, it makes you feel like you've traveled to a beachy relaxed atmosphere. I was a bit nervous to go to Soluna Cocina Mexicana because we were going on a Saturday and they don't take reservations. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they see their patrons and how much seating they actually have to accommodate everybody. We had a party at five and had no problem getting a table. Their margaritas are phenomenal definitely loaded! Our table ordered several appetizers so between the chips and the appetizers I went for a chicken tortilla soup. I often go to El Mirasol with a group of friends, and we decided to change things up and come to the sister restaurant Soluna. I really like the location because Broadway is such a great spot in SATX, but I will say that the parking is limited since it's shared with other businesses. The restaurant is set up differently than El Mirasol, and I find it's not quite as nice inside. The menu is fairly similar, and has many choices. I got nachos and a chispa. The chispa was delicious! Called in order for pick up. When I called I also ordered 8oz green salsa. When she repeated my order back she said 8oz salsa, so I corrected her to make sure it was the green salsa. When I picked it up curbside I checked my order because I had a feeling and it was 8oz red salsa. I told the man it was suppose to be green. Beware of this location. When the final charge appeared on my credit card the server FRAUDULENTLY added a $25.00 tip to the bill. When I called the location they refunded the amount after many calls and verifying my signed bill, but they do not address the fraud that happened within their establishment. I would recommend every one to watch out for final charges from this restaurant as the management done seem to care that an employees added money to the charge card as like its no big deal. Also we had asked for some oranges for the baby and was charged $8 for some slices of oranges, and when this was brought up they would not even discuss it. I felt we was over charged for a few things even $3.50 for a little cheese. These prices are not talked about up front but added at the end as an excessive amount. This was my first time to Soluna, but I have been to El Mirasol twice and this experience was fairly similar given that many of the food items were the same. The quality was outstanding for everything! The outdoor seating area felt like a little oasis. They had a beautiful row of hanging planters filled with ferns and a nice little breeze. From the chips and salsa to the Chiapas to our entrees and the customer service; a 10/10 experience. If you know about a Chispa, you know they are STRONG. One will usually be good, but my boyfriend had to try a second, so we had three in total. All three were well flavored, but my favorite was the traditional followed by the strawberry. The mango was fantastic as well, but it tastes better frozen in my opinion :) As per usual, we filled up on chips and salsa before our meal arrived, but that just goes to show that they are quick to refill your chips/salsa as we did not have a long wait for our food. We ordered the tacos norteñas and the stuffed poblano entrees. The taco norteñas were crispy on the outside, which made the cheese all melty on the inside. This taco was easily one the best taco I've had in a long time. As for the poblano pepper, it was even more amazing! It came stuffed with shredded chicken and melted cheese....and I mean stuffed. The poblano cream sauce on top really took this to the next level! I would have dipped my taco in it had there had been any to spare. Soluna is one of my favorite restaurants. Originally I came in just for the Chispas but the food is equally as good as the drinks. The Guava Chispa is one of the many flavors that I like, they also have mango, strawberry, prickly pear, cucumber and many more I am not remembering. For their food I have had the chance to try several dishes but my favorite is always their enchiladas. Not only is this place great for dinner but also great for just some delicious appetizers and drinks. So last night we went out to dinner at Soluna. A nice little Mexican restaurant on Broadway in San Antonio. Janie and Adam both ordered the "safe" Guisado with beans and rice. This was a very well prepared dish and was consumed with relish by both of them. I perused the menu and my gaze was caught by something I had never seen nor heard of! Chile en Nogada. I have to confess, I'm not sure I was ready for the flower! The dish consisted of: Poblano pepper filled with sautéed beef, pork, almonds and a combination of dried fruit. Topped with almond cream and pomegranate. Served at room temperature. With rice and borracho beans on the side. It was awesome. Tasty, rich, it looked like a dessert, but it wasn't sweet!
