I've been wanting to try Maria empanada forever and I'm so glad I finally made it in first of all the inside is super cute. I felt transported out of Colorado and into Argentina (I've never been yet) or Europe or something. That was really cool. I had the lemon dessert and it was so good. All the desserts looked really really good. I was just stuffed from having lunch next-door first, so missed out on trying an empanada selection. He helped me with making my large order of Diego and Veggie empanadas to be delivered. The day of my event there was trouble with the delivery of my order but without hesitation the staff at Maria's helped to get my order to me with great timing. It's so cute and the service is fast and friendly. I like that they figured out how to write the filling on each empanada. There's a nice selection of dessert and drinks. It's expensive, $23 for 3 empanadas and a bai drink- to go. When I got back to the office 5 minutes later, I found cold, grease soaked empanadas. The chicken chimichurri was good, but so dry. What a cool spot! I stopped in for a pickup order and wish I could have dined in because it has such a cool seating area. It's fast service with empanadas premade and ready to heat up and serve. I tried the spinach (a TON of spinach), Argentina (my favorite!) and the Chicken Chimichurri (also delicious!). They forgot my Chimichurri sauce on the side, but I know it would have been gooooood. Ordered the following (each one is about $4.30) Argentina - 3/5 - It sounded great, since it has steak. However, it is not cubed pieces of steak, but shredded. Service: the man in black hair black beard, glasses and ear piercings is rude. We were looking at the espresso machine near the empanadas and I touched the handle of the machine and the guy behind the counter says "don't touch that shit" & I said oops sorry haha (tried to giggle the tension away) & he says "yeah you can't touch that, there's only 27 of those made ever & the owner got super lucky", & again we apologized & said wow that's so cool (trying to steer the conversation to a lighter side) & again he goes "yeah you can't touch it". I get it. I apologized & tried to lighten the situation. We got 6 empanadas, those come with 2 sauces. I picked them out & he tossed them on the plate like if it was a dirty napkin on a finished plate. There was a lot of attitude with this guy, I didn't want to stay to eat there after. There should be a sign clearly starting "Do not touch please" OR put that machine behind some glass to avoid future negative interactions. I like the empanadas here, they're on the small side but are always tasty. If I come back, I don't want to be helped by that guy because there was no need to be mean. We vote for Empanada Mama in NYC, Vicky Bakery/Sergio's and other Hispanic places in SoFl but in Denver it's Maria Empanada. We specifically drove to Stanley Marketplace for Maria Empanada to stuff our bellies before heading to the airport. They had so many to chose from and delicious sauces, we ordered half a dozen for two people and it was the perfect amount. The staff were friendly, professional, patient and recommended their most popular and they're popular for a reason ;) We loved everything about our experience at Maria Empanada and recommend it to anyone in Denver at Stanley Marketplace. Looking back, we should have ordered less as we wanted to also try the legit ramen at Qi-Lin. But, no regrets on the half dozen whatsoever. read more

UPDATE: so many years later, they're still very good. They've really settled into the neighborhood, and they continue to offer great Argentinian food and drink. They've got a base list of empanadas, about a dozen different kinds, along with a couple of breakfast and dessert ones, but now they're offering an occasional special which might make it onto the regular menu in time. Each one is full of flavor and you'll easily find several you like. After some issues during the peak of COVID, they've fixed everything and it's back to being what we all know and enjoy. The beautiful lady that helped us was very informational, we had not tried Mate tea before, we gave it try, it's very strong, as she informed us, not sure it's our thing but glad we gave it a shot! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made it in and we were not disappointed. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and the music selection and volume was perfect. I like the garage doors to bring the outside in, it made the environment perfect on a summer day. Service was great all the staff were extremely friendly. The empanada selection is not big which I appreciate, too many options can be overwhelming. I got the egg, potato, and salsa and the ham and cheese empanadas, they were both delicious but the ham and cheese was my favorite. My wife ordered the sierra and chorizo and she said the chorizo was her favorite. We also ordered the Espanola Classico and the tarta Victoria which both were amazing, the Classico was so soft and fluffy. The tarta was not sweet at all which I loved and had great flavor. This was the cutest little empanada place with outdoor seating. I came in during the late afternoon for a quick bite, and this place did not disappoint. We got six different empanadas and they were all delicious. I think my favorite was the mushroom and cheese. We also got to pick from a few different sauces that we're all very flavorful. They were all cooked perfectly and none were too dry. The presentation of the empanadas were also adorable. He got their specialty tea which was also very good. Everyone was very friendly, and when my husband rudely declined any sauces before he paid, the cashier offered us sauces free of charge. What a kind gentleman! It's been over a year since I was last here even though I live nearby. They have 10 different empanadas + 3 breakfast items and a newer quiche like espanolas. Each one is branded with their individual name since they are half moon shaped turnovers that look alike. I got the Sierra made with chicken, Spinach with cheese & bechamel sauce and Mushroom. They offer 4 sauces at $0.59 each. Each was hot and delicious. The sauces range from mild to spicy. I got a lemonade. They have soft drinks, beer, wine, sangria and an expresso machine. The have 4 desserts including tiramisu, creme brulee, a lemon custard, shortbread and 2 pastries. Their regular size empanadas are $ 4.89 each. They offer cocktail sized empanadas for $20.94 for 1/2 dozen. I will come again. read more

My love for empanadas knows no bounds. I'm so glad I finally tried Maria Empanada and will make it my go-to spot when the empanada craving hits (admittedly pretty often). I can't wait for the Greenwood Village location to reopen so that their goodies are even more readily available. We stopped in to grab some empanadas to go. With so many options, it wasn't an easy choice but we narrowed it down to a spinach, corn, Argentina, tango, beef, and chicken. They came with two sauces so we chose the chimichurri and asado grill. While very hard to choose, the Argentina was my favorite, especially when paired with the chimichurri. Overall, these were some of the best empanadas I've ever had. They were stuffed with meat/veggies and perfectly baked. I can't wait to go back and try the españolas (their take on a Spanish tortilla) and perhaps the gallega which took me back to my days of teaching in Spain when we'd all share a giant empanada for snack time! We grabbed some coffee to go which was really good, but next time I'll most likely snag a carton of sangria to bring home. I went to Maria Empanada twice, once to get my son's desserts and myself coffee, and then again for my purse (doh!) and half a dozen empanadas. You know what, it was SO WORTH THE stress thinking my purse was gone forever to try those empanadas. The desserts were very good - both boys had the tiramisu, which comes in a nice glass bowl that you can keep. Each boy finished theirs with no trouble (and very few breaths taken), and I loved my Ivi Lemon but made myself stop so I could have a tasty dessert later. We also had one of the Banatellas, which my son wasn't so sure about, but I couldn't stop. The next day, after I had been handed my purse (which they had found and immediately put aside behind the counter - they were very sweet S I exploded with relief - I ordered six empanadas. I got two beef, one corn, one mushroom, and two of the Diego. Which was best? Impossible to answer because they were all so amazing!! I had two that day, and then the next day my dad "offered" to split two. We had the corn and a Diego. Just so you don't think I'm just bad at picking winners, when I asked him which he had liked most, he told me they were both equally good. It's been a while since I ate here so I can't exactly remember what we got. But I remember I got 3 meat and my friend got 3 vegetarian. I remember we both did not like spinach. I thought all of my empanadas were just average. The other two veggie ones were meh as well. We got two desserts. One wasn't great (a chocolate one) but one was tasty. Super helpful review I know. Seriously, what's not to love about Maria Empanada? I used to come to this location when I was in the neighborhood distracting myself antique shopping and beer drinking, and it was such a delight. It occurred to me the other day that a box of empanadas would be the perfect thing to share with friends whilst engaging in the 'distant' socialization, and boy was I right. The online order process was super easy, the pickup was lightning fast, the empanadas were adorably, securely and environmentally boxed, and everything was just as tasty as ever! (In fact, I got so excited, this is really the only picture I can offer you). If you're new to this delight, I definitely recommend sampling several flavors. Spinach is always a crowd favorite, I am a big fan of the mushroom, the chicken chimichurri and classicos are excellent choices too, and this time, I was surprised to thoroughly enjoy the Tango as well (I'm not usually the biggest ham fan). Order some extra sauces, find a nice spot outdoors, and pretend the world is normal. It will at least be delicious :-) read more

I've had like 4 different type of empanadas here and they've been great. Sometimes I would ask for them to be heated a bit more, but I love the variety of flavors! Chicken, beef, corn, egg, veggie, all kinds of options! And nice little sizes. The staff was super friendly and they have hot coffee drinks. And the sweet bread plain pastries were delicious!
