From its pre-Columbian origins to its merger with Spanish and other culinary traditions, Mexican cuisine has a fascinating history and a unique flavor configuration that sets it apart from other cuisines. They are renowned for their vibrant flavors, bold spices, and diverse dishes catering to all tastes using ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro. Authentic Mexican food is more than tacos and salsa. The Garden State is hailed as one of the most diverse states when it comes to food, hosting some of the best Mexican restaurants on the East Coast. Whether one desires a quick taco or a full-course meal, my friends and I were craving rich and bold tastes from Mexico and decided on this family-owned establishment for an early Cinco de Mayo dinner. The reservation was easily made by calling Mariachi Grill, located on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst. Upon arrival at this popular spot to locals, with its cozy and casual interior decked out in traditional Mexican vibes, we were greeted by the staff and immediately got a table by the entrance, but they also have outdoor dining, weather permitting. The menu selection is much smaller than at other restaurants. We decided on the Cheese Enchiladas, Beef Enchiladas, California Burrito, Beef Burrito, Chicken Fries with Fries, and Shrimp Fajitas. Some meals are accompanied with a small portion of rice and black beans. Complimentary house chips and salsa started our meal. As the restaurant is working on their liquor license, it's BYOB. One can bring your own tequila or wine, and the staff will mix it with their sangria or margarita mixes. We washed our meal down with a pitcher of sangria. The presentation was very good. The food was made incredibly fresh, well seasoned, deliciously tasty, and generous. The price was very reasonable for the area. Our server Lisa with her outgoing personality and her desire to make our visit enjoyable, which we didn't feel rushed. Good experience overall, which we can recommend.

Great local Mexican food that is BYOb. I Can't believe we waited so long to try it. They have a covered patio on the side for outdoor seating. The inside is not that big so be sure to go early or call ahead. The food was excellent and portions were a decent size. The meal starts with complimentary chips and salsa. The chicken mole was so good- highly recommended. They can make a burrito into a platter if requested and The churrasco was very tender. We look forward the dining again soon.

Had a craving for some Mexican food so we decided to make our way over for dinner one Thursday at around 8 PM. There were a few tables dining and some takeout orders at that time. To start, they give you some complimentary chips and salsa, which I really appreciate. We ordered some tacos al pastor as an app, and these were pretty good. For my main, I had the chorizo quesadilla. It's a pretty big portion, which they cut into four pieces and since I had already eaten 2 tacos, I ate one piece of the quesadilla and was already full. The chorizo was good. It wasn't too oily. Hubby had the wet burrito with beef. I don't like soggy burritos, but he seemed to enjoy it. Overall, it's a pretty good Mexican spot if you're looking for a sit down/date night and not just casual tacos to go. Tip - there's no lot but there's plenty of street parking outside

Been coming here for years and realized I've never left a review. Except for a Mexican restaurant in Secaucus, you won't find much better Mexican food in the area besides Mariachi Grill. We haven't dined in since pre-C19 when they still had the long bar along the right side of the restaurant. There's definitely more seating now, which is a great thing. Parking is street-only but you can normally find a spot pretty easily. Service has always been attentive, fast, and friendly. But the food is chef's kiss! The complimentary chips and salsa are fantastic. Definitely better when you get them fresh and in person versus driving them home 15-20 minutes away when you do pickup. I normally stick to chicken fajitas or empanadas, but this time, had the shrimp fajitas. Decent amount of shrimp, but it's honestly pretty hard to mess up fajitas. I've never had a complaint about them. My GF usually likes their quesadillas but ever since she had their green sauce, she can't get enough of the enchiladas, which are covered in it. I think if she could buy a 5-gallon container, she would. I highly recommend Mariachi Grill. I used to drive here from Secaucus, and now I drive here from Montclair (because there's no good Mexican food in Montclair, especially at this price point).

For Taco Tuesday, I stopped at Mariachi Grill and got dinner to go. I ordered online, which was a very smooth process and everything was ready when I got there. There is street parking only, so this could potentially be a problem but wasn't for me in this particular case. Everyone was very helpful when I got there and they even called me fairly quickly after I ordered as they had to alter something slightly. We started with the chips and guac, the flautas and the al pastor tacos. Both my wife and myself got the chicken burrito. Guacamole was very good and a very generous portion. The flautas were interesting. Not something I would get again but that's just because it really wasn't my thing. The tacos were very good. The burrito was excellent. Extremely tasty. So why 4 stars opposed to 5? The chips that came with the guac had melted cheese which hardened by the time I got home. It was just very odd. Also, the burrito just came as a burrito in a takeout tin. No rice or beans. Again, I just found that very odd especially being that the price kind of made sense if it came with rice and beans. All in all, a very solid place for Mexican food. I may try it again and eat in the next time. Everything was solid all around. There was just a few weird things that threw me a curveball. Burrito...... VERY TASTY. Just add a little side of rice and beans and it'll be a masterpiece.

Consistently good food at mariachi! The salsa and homemade chips are some of the best. I recently had the Al pastor burrito. The pork was juicy and the pineapple gave the food a slightly sweet flavor - perfect combo! I also enjoy the decor and it's lively colors. FYI: place is byob!

Had lunch at Mariachi Grill and had a pleasant experience. We were quickly greeted and seated by a very friendly server. The complimentary chips and homemade salsa were very good. The salsa was so tasty and, I could tell, that it was freshly prepared. We ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, Cheese Quesadilla, and their new "Wet Burrito." If you order the Wet Burrito remember, that the red sauce is s-p-i-c-y! Not uncomfortably spicy, but it has a kick. Every item that we ordered was delicious and the soup was large. We also ordered lemonades, which were refreshing and enjoyed. The restaurant is very clean, nicely decorated, and I recommend it.

Mariachi is a great option for Mexican food in the area. My boyfriend will forever fight over the best spot for some tacos. Mariachi is great but I feel like it has a little more of a Tex mex flair rather than being really authentic. Still good tho! Their nachos are pretty good - they come with all the fixings and their al pastor is delicious. My boyfriend always always always gets the chorizo empanadas and honestly it's worth what you're paying for it because the amount of chorizo in each one is pretty great. Served with some rice and beans. I've tried their chicken burrito and their al pastor tacos. I'll probably stick to their tacos since they were really good. Served with cilantro and onions. They have drink mixes and you can bring your own as well. Don't sleep on their churros they're pretty good too! Street parking can get a little tough on this main road but you're always able to find something. They also have a nice sized outdoor area for the summer, which is really fantastically decorated. The service is always great too! Definitely try their green sauce - not too spicy and adds the right flavors.

There was a day in Feb where the weather was kind of nice to sit outside so I was trying to find an outdoor spot. This place showed up and it's so close to our house so I wanted to give them a try. When I had called to ask about outdoor seating they were so friendly too! When I got there, I realized it was a Covid-protocols outdoor seating but not truly outside - so just bare that in mind. We were basically sitting in an indoor area. Anyways the food was delicious. We share the chicken taquitos which were great especially with their salsa on top. I tried the Al pastor enchiladas with mole sauce and it was definitely worth the extra $2 for mole! Smoky flavors and the Al pastor was tender. I'll definitely be back here.

Went here for Cinco as an alternative. We really tried to like it... especially because it was so last minute! Maybe I'll give it another chance on a regular day. You would expect them to put their best dishes forward, considering the menu had been reduced to a prefixed menu. - Salsa was watery and bland (Thank God it was free) - Beef burrito was mainly rice and beans w/ a bit of steamed beef, and they forgot to add the avocado. - My sister had the steak tacos, which was under seasoned steamed beef, a sprinkle of cilantro & onion (red onion at that) Waited and asked multiple servers for our check, you would think they would want to get the next customers in, waiting was excruciating. We were tired of sitting there & our food was whatever. Not much of an ambiance, just guests chatter. Bonus: You can bring your own bottle, etc. We got the Margarita mix aka limeade and got a tequila at the corner liquor store.

    Seriously.

Called with a reservation to sit outside on a beautiful night. Walk in and they have a table set up by the door with all the foot traffic. No phone. Call and the woman who is working takes not 1 bit of accountability for it. I am so over people not taking accountability for mistakes. We all make them but do right by your customers. This will be my last time here. They just lost a good customer who recommends the place to others!

I think they are bogus. This restaurant has several locations around NJ. Parking is valet only. The ambiance and decor is pretty, fun and loud. Very loud. We were seated upstairs with a pretty good view of the restaurant. Where we were seated, the lights coming from the huge projector screen was annoying. They give you an iPad to look at the menu, which can be confusing if you are technically challenged. I am not. My husband is! There's a photographer going around asking if you want a picture. I agree with one of the reviews. It seems that they are only interested in upselling. I ordered the house margarita the regular size. It was OK, from a mix, but no tequila to be found at $13. My husband had a Pacifico beer which he ask twice for lime and a glass. They brought him a margarita glass and a few dry limes. At this point he gave up. I had the chicken fajitas. It came with Rice, black refried beans and some guacamole. The included three flour tortillas were terrible old and dry. The only thing good were the fajitas. We also ordered chicken chili rellenos. Came with the terrible rice and the refried beans. My husband said they were OK. Edible as he put it. The Mexican food here is not authentic. Now for the service. Our server, told us right off that her English was limited. We speak Spanish, so that was not a problem. The service is mediocre. We asked for water twice. Finally she brought it. But not the hot sauce my husband asked for twice. It's definitely a 3 star restaurant. Catering to people that want the fun but are OK with mediocre food.
