We recently got a chocolate cake with cool whip icing which was moist and not too sweet. They occasionally have really good prices on misc items on clearance. I don't care much for the other stuff as its too expensive for my liking but I don't purchase organic so I'm not sure what is reasonably priced when it comes to that. This place is great! Not only is cheaper than most places in the area, but the quality is much better too. The fruit is always fresh and lasts a day or two longer than the other markets around. Also, I do love grabbing lunch or dinner here as the food is excellent. One issue is that sometimes their associates are not sure where something is at, but they will tell you the wrong place. I like to shop at Mariano's so I thought it would be a great place to order my son Nathan's 1st Birthday cake from there. I verified the spelling of my sons name several times with this guy knowing that cake disasters happen too often. So the 1st time my husband went to pick it up it read, "Maphan". He was so shocked with the M instead of N that he didn't even notice the P. So he brought it home reading, Naphan! I called the bakery as soon as he returned home to let them know of the 2 mistakes. It was a huge inconvenience for him to drive back for them to fix it! So the girl on the phone blamed the cake decorators and I quickly corrected her and said that it was the man who took my order as this is what was written on the order sheet. Of course the order taken by::: section was empty. She did tell me the only 2 men that work in the bakery are a manager and a supervisor. This is completely unacceptable. This location is my all-time favorite although I shop and eat at many Northside, Westside, and Southside locations. The chef is a professional who grills meats and cod perfectly. I have grilled: King Salmon fillets; pink salmon fillets; cod fillets; jumbo shrimp; black angus burgers; black angus porterhouse, new york strip, and t-bone steaks; the black angus flanken steaks; the other black angus steaks; and the salmon patties. I have whole lobsters steamed ($5 each). I love the 8lb bags of jumbo organic potatoes; the pumpkin pies; the fresh fruit; the sorbet; and the cranberries. You can use your SNAP to purchase fresh meats and they will grill them free of charge for you. Check with the grilling area to learn which fresh meats they do not grill. The fresh roasts are not grilled. You can drink your adult beverages at Mariano's too. Not really sure what is going on with Mariano's this week but I frequent them at least 4 to 5 times a week at this location the location on Clark south loop and the flagship store on Clybourn. All three have been out of catfish for the entire week not sure if other grocery stores chains are having a problem but I noticed that the fish supply in all the Mariano's has been extremely low or altogether just out of various fish like the cat fish as I have mentioned. So sad really would like some grilled fish. read more

I really like going 45% of my grocery shopping here. However some of the staff needs to work on their customer service skills. And the hot pre made food needs work. I got a pulled pork sandwich today. It was horrible. First off it wasn't hot just luke warm and it wasnt even pulled but chopped into big chunks. It was very dry. And the meat had a weird tuna after taste. I'm more then happy to hope there for food that I will xook myself but I won't be buying their hot food. read more

Horrible store, horrible management!! Rocco the store manager was so rude and arrogant that I will never shop there again! After weeks of dissatisfaction with the store and it's employees, I finally reached out to address my concerns. First of all I was lied to by the bagger when I asked her to locate the manager, I was told that he was in a meeting. When I said I would wait, she finally got him as he was standing only 6 feet away from us. The concerns I wanted to address were that the advertised items were rarely if ever in stock, the extreme lack of assistance locating items from store employees, no employees ever working the specialty cheese area or service desk and isles always being blocked by food carts which is a total fire hazzard. After informing Mr. Rocco about my weekly experiences and indicating that I could have just gone on line to write a review instead of reaching out to him with my issues he told me to go ahead and do whatever I need to do, so I will be happy to now share my experiences with the world. So here it is in a nutshell. This is a horrible store, they bait you in with their sale ad and don't have half the items listed in stock, and provide customers with horrible service. With Rocco being the lead for this store and modeling his behavior to the empolyees no wonder they could care less to help the customers. I'm happy to shop elsewhere we have PLENTY of choices in our area. read more

Absolutely, HATED this location! Bad vibes. My mother, two children and I visited this place for the $6 deli meal special. I asked the employee for a sample of the pesto pasta salad, and she put ONE piece of pasta on a spoon. I asked if she was serious, and she stated,"You can sample THAT; whaddaya need, more?!" Stunned, immediately, my mother changed her mind regarding purchasing anything. However, after eating the pesto pasta salad from the Evergreen Park, IL, location, I knew the pasta salad is usually delicious. Silly me! The pesto pasta salad was OVERLY dressed with garlic. It was so bad that while eating it in the car, I threw it in the garbage. The chicken was DRY, DRY, DRY. I called Customer Service to complain. Later, the store manager called jokingly stating, "Oh, you couldn't taste the pesto pasta salad eating one piece of pasta?" I didn't think it was funny. Then, he defended the overly dressed pesto pasta stating, "Oh, that's how ALL of the Mariano's fix it." Um, no, they do not. Mariano's located in Evergreen Park, IL, mixes the PERFECT blend where if you do not get there early, they quickly run out. And, their chicken is tender and moist. Lastly, I am very familiar with the area. And, many of the people who shop at this location are very pretentious to the point where if you sit in your car, to watch, it'll make you LOL. I am usually very satisfied with this store! Saturday, June 3, 2017 and I received terrible customer service! When I arrived at the pizza/deli station and requested a Taylor Street sub I was not greeted at all. The young lady behind the counter continued to write in a sheet of paper as I attempted to give her my order. She indicated that it would take her 20 - 10 minutes to make the sub. I still ordered the sub and she barely made eye contact and acted as if I were a nuisance. I came back 20 minutes later only to find a young man at the station with a worse attitude than his co worker. Although I was the only person at the counter I finally walked away and didn't get my sub! It was a terrible experience for me ! read more

This place started so well like many new locations. Since then they have become sloppy and careless about the prepared food area - also as many businesses do. The labeling has become haphazard and fails to differentiate between vegetarian and vegan with many labels not showing ingredients at all. The vegan choices have diminished to being nearly all restricted to the salad bar. Restocking is slow and service is curt and unfriendly. Can no longer pick up a bottle of wine in the aisle, can only buy a bottle that is offered at the bar. So had ordered a nice strip steak and had captured a Meomi Pinot noir, could not buy it to open at the bar. Was very surprised yesterday no meals for Fat Tuesday had to go to burbon street food was no big deal

Crazy long lines, and only 2 cashiers open and maybe 2 express lanes. I looked up the coupon policy and went to make a purchase only to spend 3+ hours shopping getting everything organized and waiting in the long lines to have the manager (chris) cancel my transaction automatically when my cashier just wanted to ask how many coupons can someone use and she walk away to "take care of my transaction at the customer service desk" which she told my cashier not me. Not once did she talk to me if I was doing something wrong or explain to me what was going on. When I got to the customer service desk cuz I didn't know what to do she was done with her conversation with her supervisor turns around tells me I can only use one coupon and that's it. Take it or leave it, what did I want to do. I felt belittled and humiliated in front of all the people that were there just looking at us. My kids and I just walked out me humiliated even though I didn't do anything wrong and my kids sad since they weren't getting their snacks. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! I worked in this store for a year and it was awful. The store manager Tom was horrible to all the employees. On top of that he made sexual comments to many of the female employees. They purposely gave employees 7 hour and 45 minute shifts so that were not allowed the two breaks you get if you work 8 hours. Employees are also all paid different rates for the same job. They are also incredibly under paid for how much the company makes. Employees were told that they weren't allowed to even talk to each other and were often punished for doing so. Yet all of the leads in the front of the store never stopped talking. Cashiers would have to call for help 3 or more times for leads to start paying attention enough to come help. Customers would then complain about checkout taking too long and the cashier would be blamed. Definitely do not buy food from the hot food bar. Customers often dip their hands right into the food to "sample". One time an employee made Tom (store manager) aware of this he simply laughed and stirred the food up so other customers wouldn't notice. The back of the store where food is prepared is absolutely disgusting. Their "fresh baked" goods come to the store frozen and are simply warmed up. And they are not kept in any sort of clean manner. In all the store is disgusting and employees are treated terribly. Customers are give the illusion that the store is fresh and clean but if you really pay attention you see the truth. Everything is over priced. There is even a rep for the mother brand "roundys" that visits the employees in the break room to brag about how their brand of products are the exact same thing as name brand but take less money to make so they make more. Was a big lover of Mariano's... had soup and sandwich today at the little tables and this bizarre woman who works there was interrupting us to pick up the napkins and, I said when I am finished eating I will pick it all up... said thank you ... and she said what about that wrapper, I said when done eating I will thrown it all away. I was mid scooping up a spoonful of soup. She was strange and rude and I tried to ask her to let us eat. I have never left a mess or spoon wrapper and I eat there several times. I have even cleaned the table myself. I am sure some people abuse it, but we were still eating not getting up or anything. It was annoying and I was so irked that I left and told my friend I wasn't shopping after. I can spend my money elsewhere if I can't just eat the soup and sandwich I paid for for 20 minutes with out some stranger interrupting and reaching over the table and my food. I enjoyed the adventure of wining, dining and shopping at this store. The bartenders were very cordial and accommodating, a lot more so than a lot of regular bars. Good wine selection and a nice pour . It's nice to be able to sit there and eat what you want when you want and however much you want, and pay as you go. It takes a while to decide though, as there are so many choices. The sushi and spring rolls are a nice appetizer while you graze to see what else you might want. Besides that I just went with a roasted chicken breast, a couple of sides and a large salad. One other person had fresh tuna on a nice salad, and still another went with the nicely smoked brisket. We were all happy with all of our choices. I enjoyed the time there more than a lot of restaurants. I do advise shopping first, as after the food and wine you may not feel like it. I'm glad they came to this neck of the woods. I tire of the depressing, bag your own, no frills grocery stores. Not all the prices are that much higher than anywhere else. Some things are, but I don't think I mind because the atmoshpere and the variety of items makes it worth it to me, even if I'm going strictly for groceries. read more
