Like any business, grocery store employees make or break the store's reputation. At the Jewel on west 103rd street, someone is def hiring the right employees! Teresa and Jayden, who are often around the customer service area are tru examples of employees who make a differenc! Both are not only knowledgeable and efficient, they are kind, patient, and helpful. These past 2years ive had to shop not only for my family but also for 2 elderly people unable to do so themselve- one is my 92yr old mom, who might struggle with a number of things- but is perfectly clear what she wants from Jewel. I have had enough of this store and the poor quality of the food they ALLOW to be on the shelves. Every time I shop here I have at least ONE food item that has expired and I'm not talking about days after expiration. I'm talking MONTHS. Just today I bought a pack of cookies and as i was eating one I looked at the expiration day and it expired in January. Imagine everyone buying and eating this expired food because they aren't looking at the dates. This place needs to be reevaluated by the health department and be put under new management ASAP. read more

I shopped at the store located at 4650 W 103rd Street this morning at 10:44, and I just have to say that it was one of the worst experiences. Stockers are in the middle of some of the aisles, ON THEIR PHONES, not even attempting to move out of the way so that shoppers can get through. This didn't happen in just one aisle, but MANY aisles. It would make more sense to have stocking done after the store closes or before it opens in the morning. The food selection and availability is horrible. Then, when attempting to exit the store, the automatic door wouldn't work and I literally had to throw all of my weight behind the door to get it open. read more

The food is alright, portions have changed. Service is good to register but noticing a lot of amateur security handling and obvious eyes of profiling which is not professional, friendly or courteous, trusting a guy who pulls his own cart and trying to sort thoughts. Very impatient if you take too long trying to think, not friendly to new shoppers or looks. It used to be a bit better. Lots of talking and stocking, but sometimes their prices and dates are the reason for discounts. Not always fresh, the staff stare a lot. They're not very comfortable at walking up to someone and asking for help. Noticing a few who peer to peer kinda profiled me but didn't need that type of racism. Ambiance wise it's the usual grocery. The parking lot does well. The only problem is sometimes staff I usually hear. But overall most of the time it's just people mad about the workload and wait times on register. I sympathize with the staff but there is obviously some peerage being said with eyes that leave more less trustworthy or welcomed. Either way if relationships are what they go for, much to improve on. It's a grocery though, people want to get their stuff and go. It'll be hard to get new customers with the way the app goes and how more less in product by portion and amount gets. Everyone waits on sales. I have been shopping at this Jewel for many years! Everyone please check all of your freshness dates. I would have to say a great deal of their bakery goods are way out of date. This is really a health issue. My fault though I bought a coffee cake on Monday and unfortunately I didn't check the date and it was 2 days past it's freshness. I have also noticed that a lot of dry goods are also out of date. Last time I shop here it's off to Kroger food store. This is truly unacceptable!!! read more

I've been shopping at this Jewel for more than 30 years. It has never been worse than it is now. A few years back they remodeled the store. I assume they were threatened by the rise of stores like Mariano's. Anyway, the aisles have changed and the store is more cramped now than ever. The produce section is incredibly difficult to navigate. There are islands upon islands of specialty items clogging up the entire area. If you stop to look at something you will inevitably be blocking other shoppers from moving. There is nowhere to stand. Most of these islands contain products that few if any people will purchase. The only positive island contains pre-sliced deli meats such as Krakus ham and American cheese. This is great if you don't feel like standing in line at the service deli. The main section of the store is okay. It's clean and the shelves are usually stocked. The rest of the store is adequate as well with one exception: the liquor department. You were once able to make liquor purchases at the liquor counter. They took the liquor counter away. Now you have to stand in the regular lines which are seemingly always lengthy. Further, 9 out of 10 times the cashier is not 21 years old and cannot scan liquor. You have to wait for somebody of age to come and scan the item. This results is further delay. So not only are you standing in long grocery lines but once its your turn you have to wait even longer. No thanks. They also took away the self-checkout lanes in favor of express lines. These express lanes are slow and sometimes not even manned. Thanks Jewel. My biggest beef about this location is the lack of intelligence when it comes to stocking. I assume that most of the stocking is done on midnights. However, they tend to stock during the day on busy Saturdays. Case in point: I came in on a Saturday looking to buy some hot chicken wings and some good beer. Problem 1: No hot chicken wings - just empty trays. Lots of tuna salad tough. Yuck. Problem 2: I go to the frozen section looking for frozen wings (i.e. Perdue, TGI Fridays, etc.). And? There are no less than 10 pallets of pop pretty much blocking the entire aisle. I made the decision to say "F This" and went to Mariano's where I spent $60 on beer, chicken wings, and some other items. Nice job Jewel. Conclusion: This location aggravates me pretty much every time I go. The Jewel is Alsip has actually improved as of late. Go there instead. read more

I ordered online. I let them know that they could replace items if they were unavailable. They sent me half of my list. No replacements. I went from a $230 grocery bill to $99. Not one of the items were marked "running low" or "unavailable" when I placed my order for delivery later that day. Plus, the cold items were room temperature. Gross! I tried calling the store multiple times but nobody picked up. I will never order from there again! Plus, I lost my $20 off $100 over $1.00. How convenient on their part! read more

I use to go their Pharmacy all the time. They all have attitudes now, like they are too good for you and think they all have their noses in the air. The only one who is kind there is the Pharmacist, Terri. I have gotten attitude especially from Lila and Caitlin, like they don't want to answer your questions and just hang up on you. If this review was for the pharmacy alone, I would give 5/5. The pharmacy staff is amazing and have great customer service. Any pharmacist that I have encountered there takes the time to explain medications and answer questions. However, the rest of the store does not put the same amount of effort as the pharmacy department. I have stopped doing my regular grocery shopping here because of the small selection of fresh produce and meat. This store has 2 of the worst Parmacy employees I have ever met! One ignores you as long as she can, she's at the In window. When she does finally ask "what do you want" she let's you know that you are bothering her. The other is a pharmacist. She is the meanest person I have ever come across. She always looks upset, talks to you rudely or just blows you off. If you have to go to this store you will know them right away! You can report them to corporate! The more people that do maybe some action will be taken to remove them. The sad part is there are also very nice decent women working there. To me it's no longer worth the aggravation to go there any more. It's a shame, the Jewel side is well kept. I would say get your medication filled at the Walgreens down the street and than shop at the Jewel. Don't subject yourself to the horrible service these women give. read more

I am so disappointed in my shopping experience. I rarely shop at Jewel but because the local Dominick's locations have closed I didn't have many options. Next time I'll do without. The carts were all wet because it was raining. Most stores don't dry their carts so I wouldn't normally hit them for this. I had a question for the butcher and he rolled his eyes because I stopped him from some paperwork he was doing. Nothing like making the customer feel like they are an inconvenience. While I was in the soda/water aisle there was an employee replacing shelf price tags. When I said excuse me so they could let me pass I was ignored. I said excuse me again but louder. Again, ignored. Finally I had to walk over and move their work cart from the middle of the aisle so I could pass. At the checkout there were just a couple lines open and the lines were long so I decided to use the self checkout. While scanning my cases of bottled water the system scanned it three times but I only had two. It took five minutes to get an associate to assist and then she blamed my lack of register skills for the error and then took forever fining a manager swipe card to remove the extra product. Either the management treats their employees poorly and they are disgruntled because of that or I just managed to get all the incompetent ones this afternoon. My debit card was used fraudulently last night and I had used it on a delivery order from Jewel tonight. I called first thing to report it this morning and offered to give them credit card number or I would pay cash. The gentleman told me he would have someone call me back. That was at 9:00 a.m. At 5:00 p.m., I called again only to be informed that my order was cancelled. No one made a note on the order to call me back. This is the 2nd time my order was not delivered as promised. These people who handle Jewel home delivery cannot handle it. They are morons! read more

I have been shopping at this location for the past twenty years. Lately, untrained help have been working the registers. On one occasion, I encountered a young man with headphones jumping around at the register waiting on customers. Today, I had a woman that seemed very disgruntled waiting on me. She couldn't even say hello or crack a smile, no thank you either. On another occasion, I had a woman that was pressing all the wrong buttons. I hope corporate reads this. There are some very nice people working at this location, but the rest of the employees should all be better trained on how to treat customers. When I order groceries for delivery, they come from this location. My comment is for that service only. They have the most careless pickers. They do not put forth any effort to locate your items. Today they are apparently out of salami. I find that very hard to believe. They never have Tito's vodka either which is nonsense and there is always some other everyday items they claim to be out of stock. Thoughtlessness or laziness on behalf of the employees. Watch what your being billed for when you order from the deli. Look at the label on the package before you leave. So far, two different times they punched in the wrong code and charged me for something expensive that I never ordered and put that label on your package. Terrible shoppers and "some" drivers - inaccurate groceries picking. When you say "no substitutes" they substitute anyway with something you can't eat. I throw away too much food due their errors. Many don't even speak English - Jewel Store itself is great, but as a handicapped senior I need to do online shopping and I have not found a good online grocery since Peapod left the area. Jewel is my favorite store but it's a nightmare for me to shop online; I'm unable to walk the store and stand due to disabilities. Very frustrating and nerve wracking. Know what you order, you probably won't get exactly what you order and if shop $200 worth you'll get $115 worth. The shoppers don't really try. I don't believe they are out of all they say they are. I will then go to Amazon's Whole Foods who has the best delivery and shopper service but I don't like much of their food; I mainly get produce there. I would totally shop Whole Foods if they had regular food. read more

I recently had a less then desirable experience while doing self check out at this store. It's a Monday night and although the store was busy it was not intolerable. I had milk, bananas and a few other things. My particular check out booth kept telling me to wait for assistance. I did wait and then it became annoying that the cashier delegated to these particular lanes seemed annoyed to be there. Perhaps it was too busy for her I don't know. I became annoyed that I have asked for assistant but was blatantly ignored. I ended up just walking out without my items. I called the store manager to tell him just how upset I was with my experience. He was VERY nice and apologetic. He said he understood my frustration and told me he would happily bring my milk as that was the most important item on my list for my children. I was resistant at first as that was not his mistake to correct, it was the shuffley feet cashier. The manager brought my milk right over to my house within a matter of 5 minutes. He ended up going above and beyond his customer service needs and I am VERY thankful and look forward to shopping there as I always do. The store is always stocked and very clean. I've seen him on several occasions on the floor interacting with workers and working well with them. Team work and superb customer service seems to be this store managers MO. I stopped by the fish/meat counter and saw crab cakes. I thought this would be an easy meal. I bought 2. Today I heated them up and unfortunately, they were completely tasteless. I couldn't taste any crab at all and they didn't hold together while I heated them up. I had a pleasant experience at the store but was disappointed with the taste.
