Highly recommend this restaurant for your fix of Mexican food while in the area! 4/5 - Tacos (3) that we bought were very filling and appropriately seasoned! Preferred the asada over the pollo. 5/5 - Shrimp Rancheros was very filling and we were impressed by the portions. I haven't been here in 18 years so I needed to come back again because my friend who lives in the Glendora says it is the best Mexican food in the area! I have eaten at La Via Kitchen in Via Verde (San Dimas) every week for three years with my friends. One of those friends is the guy that lives in Glendora, who says Maria's is even better than La Villa Kitchen! Very bold statements, right? So???? First off the place is twice as big as last time I was here, the waitress said they expanded about five years ago? Love the booths! Second off, the chips and salsa were very good, 99% chance they are supplied by La Tolteca in Azusa ..... lots of places use them in the area because they are so good. I had my standard shredded beef, taco cheese, and enchilada yada yada yada.... I have to say, my friend is probably right. This place is killer. The taco is packed full of shredded beef, no fat no weird stuff in there. AND there is at least twice as much meat as any other place in the area. Cheese enchilada was very good, even though there were a few onions inside when I ordered no onions. Race very flavor bowl with no weird stuff throwing in it either. Service was top-notch .... After a couple of recommendations, we decided to try this restaurant. It was good. Clean, ample parking, friendly service. The bar on the right side of the restaurant was really busy because it was opening day for the Dodgers, but the restaurant itself had a few empty booths. We waiting about 5 minutes before we were seated. The food was tasty, the sauce a bit on the spicier side, but had good flavors. I ordered the chile relleno plate. The Chille Relleno was good, but nothing that I would say I had to go back and order. My husband had the flautas and he said they were also good, a little too crispy for my liking (tried cutting with a knife, but they cracked across the table as if they were taquitos). The bar seems to be where it's at. The margarita was delicious! Very strong, felt like I ordered a double shot and they forgot the mix, but very good. The chips are excellent. Maria's is a local Mexican Restaurant we visit when we want a quick dinner that's solid. It's in the Von's parking lot and it's close to home so it's an easy choice. The food is always good and service is great. It's not a fancy or elevated experience but it doesn't need to be. It is what it is and for that it fits the bill. I wouldn't say I rave over any dishes but I generally like everything I've tried. The location and service keep us coming back. read more

I brought my son and family here for lunch a week ago because we love Mexican food, but I have to say the food wasn't that great. My enchilada was very dry and small considering the price they charged. I had a feeling it had been sitting out for a while and just reheated a little. That was about it. I ordered a 1 item tamale plate, thinking that was a safe bet. The tamale was broken into a million pieces on the plate. If there was meat underneath this mess of masa, I didn't see it. It looked like they just slopped a broken tamale on a plate when it should have been trashed. Well, first of all, I don't mind paying extra money for Mexican food if it's outstanding, I like homemade tortillas .I like Service I like to see my waitress, not just when she brings our food or just at the end to pick to get paid. We love getting take out from here! The food is tasty and enjoyable! Can't complain on taste at all!!!! BUT.... they are SO STINGY with the chips!!!! No matter how I try, explain, beg for extra chips, we never get them! You get two TINY bags with an order. Maybe a quarter of the size of a standard lunch sack and only half filled. Next time I ordered, asked for extra.... no extra came. Next I asked if I could purchase a larger bag of chips.....I got a larger "bag", but with only the equivalent amount of chips that come in the two free bags.... Maria's is a nice looking neighborhood restaurant. We were hoping to grab a nice lunch after a morning of shopping. We were pleasantly greeted by the staff and we were promptly seated. Chips and Salsa arrived promptly. They were above average. However, the food was not. I ordered the all meat chile verde burrito a la carte. It came to the table by itself on a large dinner plate. We all chuckled because the burrito was the size of the microwave burritos you get at the grocery store 4 for a dollar. The chile verde was average. I found it dry and the pork was a bit dry. My Son got The Burrito Especial with shredded beef. He complained that the first half of the burrito was just rice and beans. When he did find the beef, it was not hot. The waiter did replace the burrito and comped our bill but it was really a down to have to hassle with it. When we received the check, I was surprised to see how expensive it was for the portion sizes and the average quality. We'd have been better off hitting a chain restaurant. My wife's been asking to go with her to Maria's, so I finally made some time to go with her. This place is a very chill spot with a bar on one side and the restaurant seating on the other. The decor shows typical Mexican themed items which is nice. The service is pretty spot on. The server came often to check on us which is a plus for me. She was very nice, too. As for the food, we had the bean and cheese burrito, the chile verde burrito - wet- and chips and guac. My chile verde burrito was nice and fat- filled with nice savory pork chunks. My wife had the bean and cheese burrito. She loved it, but she felt it to be too small for an adult. She thought it was the kids burrito! We finally had as an appetizer the chips and guac which was really good! The only issue I had was with the chips! They were all crumbs. I had to ask for a new batch that was better. There were still a lot of crumbs at the bottom. One more note, I really enjoyed the beans, rice, and salsa! They added a small bar a few years back and I think it adds to the ambiance. Maria's doesn't try and get fancy with their menu, they keep it simple and do it well. I do they they have the best rice around. Their chips are not my favorite but I think that's a personal thing. I prefer a thicker style tortilla chip. The service is always friendly and welcoming. This last visit I had the three T's, 2 taquitos, a small Tostada and a shredded beef taco. I was born and raised in Glendora (Glendora High, Class of '85) and had only been back to Maria's a few times since going to college - only once since they expanded into the old Starbucks...The expansion has definitely enhanced the warm ambiance of the restaurant....We had lunch today and ironically our server, Julian is the great grandson of Maria! He was courteous and attentive to our needs and it was obvious he cared about our experience. While I admired a picture of "Maria" on the wall, Maria's youngest daughter introduced herself...Irma - a wonderful person that was very proud of the restaurant that has been a staple in the city of Glendora since 1967 - originally opened as Pepe's. I will start out positive and we will go from there. We were seated upon entering, chips and salsa came soon after. The salsa was very good, our waitress very nice and from here it goes down hill. I ordered a Two item combo, it list what is available for the $21 price and under it i guess are upgrades for a fee on top of the 21. This was our first time at this place and our last. Found out what i ordered was $6 each extra bringing the total for just my food to $33. My wife ordered the Chimichanga and the mole was blander than baby food. Our bill came to almost $63 dollars, we dont pay that much at El Torito maybe about $40 and much better food. I ordered the Tostada and a burrito, the meat on the tostada was Carna Sada was way over cooked. I got the burrito to go and most of my tostada, we went up to pay and found out how much our bill was with out a tip and i questioned them about the price of my meal and got a wishy washy answer. I told them we would not return if this is how it is, the manager with an attitude said "people love our food and we have been here for a long time". With the tip because we refused to stiff the waitress because the food was bad. They let us leave without even trying to work with us, how many people do you think i will recommend eat here thats right zero. And they not only lost our future business but anyone we would have sent here. I left my togo box and told them to throw it in the trash, that was how mad i was. 16.50 for a burrito and 16.50 for a horrible tostada, do yourself a favor and go to El Torito or Alfredo's they are less expensive and a whole lot better. I decided to try Maria's for lunch today in spite of a unacceptable experience there 30 odd years ago. Nothing has changed. The plate of chili verde, rice and beans was not only tasteless but was not recognizable as Mexican food. When I questioned why the chile verde (green) sauce was red and did not taste like verde sauce the waiter replied, that's the way we have made it for 32 years. (How dare a customer question what they have done for 32 years) The salad consisted of wilted ice berg lettuce with a scoop of sour cream on top. The beans were tasteless and appeared to have a slice of American cheddar melted on top. Cheddar on Mexican refried beans, really? My impression is that Maria's patronage is largely senior white Glendora folks who eschew all spices save for salt and pepper. I can honestly say that this was the worst plate of food I have had in any restaurant over the last 30 years. On a positive note, the ambiance and acoustics was welcoming. I can't believe there are reviews on here lower than 5 stars. What? What's even happening? Maria's has some of the finest beans-n-rice cali-mex I've ever had. Is it crowded? Yeah! Is the ambiance questionable? You know it! Is it consistent! Un-erringly so! I've literally been going to Maria's since junior high (maybe earlier?), which is basically forever, and I've never once been disappointed. My standing order is the #9. A sublime all-meat burrito, good with any meat but absolutely remarkable with the chili verde - get it wet with the chili-verde meat sauce on top. The perfect plate of all-meat burrito, extra chili verde sauce, and beans and rice is complimented by their perfect salsa, and razor-thin chips, both bottomless and relentlessly refilled by the attentive waitstaff (if you're feeling frisky you can buy a bag of chips and a quart of salsa for home). Everything on the menu is great, even the opal ice served in their soft drinks and water is fantastic. Do not pass this place up if you have a stopover in G-town. read more

My wife and I had dinner at Maria's the prior day as we had been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area. I had the Chile Verde (in a red sauce, not green) with chunks of pork. Well, maybe specks of pork. Although I was served two flour tortillas. There was barely enough pork for a single Tortilla. The albondigas soup was tasty. My wife thought she ordered 2 chicken enchiladas but apparently it was just one (they need to remind the cook that there needs to be some chicken in the chicken enchilada), and just an additional enchilada was quoted as $8.00. The food was OK and if I had not filled up on chips and salsa which were good, I would have left hungry. The service was good and everyone was really nice. Ordered chili verde plate with chicken. The chicken was burnt and dry. I felt like they reheated it. The service was terrible. My friend had an horchata to drink. After we paid the bill. She asked for an horchata, to go. The girl went and called the manager, who proceeded to say that they didn't give refills to go. That we had to pay for it. We had already paid our bill and were not asking for a free drink. We knew we were paying for it to take. I thought I would give them a second chance. I had been there once before. I visited Maria's on 8/21/25 for a birthday lunch for a friend ( just 2 of us)! After being a customer for 50 years ( yes when it was Pepe's on Foothill), I was shocked by our first impression! The 45ish women at the front desk when we walked it had an attitude from the get go! I asked for a booth and none were open so we sat at a table. Even before the water or any menus, a booth opened up and I moved there while my friend was in the restroom. The RUDE women came over and said "that's not clean" and insisted I move in a very reprimanding tone. It took one mInute for the bus staff to clean the table while I waited. She glared at us when we sat down there again And throughout our lunch. Before we sat down, I asked her if ownership had changed as I was never treated this abominably! She snipped "No"! Wow, would Pepe and Maria be sad! I should have known the second I arrived that this women was trouble! I sure hope she's not one of the granddaughters! Maria's is a nice Mexican restaurant with a variety of food items in their menu. My go to is either the taco meal or the chili Verde burrito. Chips and salsa are provided at the table. The service is friendly. It can get crowded at times but the staff is always helpful at refilling drinks or chips and salsa sometimes when there's a lot of people in there, it can get a little loud, but that just provides for the fun atmosphere. Friday and Saturday evenings you may end up with a wait so plan accordingly I highly recommend checking Maria is out. read more
