I've been a loyal customer and this is usually my go-to place, but I was really disappointed with today's experience. I placed my order over the phone and picked it up as usual. When I got to my car and checked the bag, I realized several items were missing. I went back inside to let them know. By that point, the food I had already been given had been sitting for over 45 minutes. I still had to drive home, so I knew it would be cold by the time I got there. one of the best places to go if you are craving Mexican food is here. I ordered the Chili Verde plate with a side Carne Asada taco. of course this also includes your Chips & Salsa. The order went smoothly, food delivered quickly and enjoyed. if you need a soft drink refill, just walk over to the beverage station and someone will help you. the same with the chips & salsa. Haven't been to La Tolteco in many, many years. What a change! We walked in, they have tables and booths, and a bar! Seating at the bar and on the backside too which has a nicer small seating area. NICE!! They have 5 tv's in the bar area which was cool cuz we came to see the Fifa game. The chips weren't my favorite, baked and cold. But the salsas were good. The bartender/server was on it.. Local spot we go to every once in a while. Love that we can sit down and enjoy some chips and salsa while we wait for our food. I usually get the compuesta (sp?) with shredded beef. This time I got a side of chile relleno and street tacos. The meat in the taco was seasoned well. Will definitely get it again. I topped it with the creamy guacamole- yum! There's a private parking lot with plenty of parking. Her entire team dined together. The team ended up taking up the patio area. When you walk in, turn right. You must order at the register before taking a seat. Pricing is reasonable. Food is decent. The guac could use some salt. The chips could use less salt. My sister and I each ordered the enchilada plate served with beans and rice. She ordered chicken and I ordered beef. We both got red sauce and a side of guac to share. After ordering, you pick up your chips, guac, and drink. Then sit somewhere and they'll bring you your food. The food was good. However, I was disappointed that it only came with one enchilada. It was alright, but doesn't taste authentic. I really wanted tacos, but I saw on Yelp their tacos are not authentic. They're served in a fried tortilla which is very American. Would I return? Sure. The fresh fried chips taste like corn and salsa are delicious and a great addition to a party since you can get pint, quart, etc. I've never dined here, always gotten take away. Cheese enchilada good. Taquito and taco, nice crispy set up, good portion, shredded beef is on the dry side but you can cover that in sauce if you want. I will stick to other items I enjoy more. We were here in 2022 and had a great meal. This time surprised by having to wait in line to order. Being Saturday night it was pretty packed. We were kept entertained while waiting in line by the booth of small children seated away from their parents who kept moving between the two tables and a few near misses with staff delivering food. I do wish the lettuce had been thicker for more crunch, and the steak cut into more cube-sized, chewy pieces rather than strip-like and flaky. Went over there for the first time to watch the Mexico England game. Saw the sign for "happy hour every night from 4-8 pm" Went up to order a drink, got charged full price. I asked why? He said I thought it's not happy hour, I showed him his literal sign, he said oh sorry let me double check. He talked to someone and then came back and said "oh that's only weekdays" even though it says every night. Minutes later, I go up to order my food. I get up charged on that. I point to the LITERAL MENU behind the cashier and ask why the hell im being upcharged now? At first she said "oh it's probably taxes" I said look at the price, you upcharged the item and then charged tax, then she said "oh it's probably the carne asada" I said no.. the carné asada is included, it literally says $0 on the screen for that. Then she started laughing and said "oh I don't know, sometimes the menu doesn't get updated" These scammers don't even have an excuse to use when being confronted. Obviously up charging because the Mexico game and hoping no one notices, I'm glad Mexico lost. I was not happy with this place, they didn't have much authentic Mexican flavors in this place. No choice of Mexican chocolate nor cafe de la olla drinks. We ordered chili rellenos and green chiliquilies which were not spicy. The chiliquilies had a cracked egg shell accidentally but I was not impressed with the flavors, they gave me half cash for the food instead of a full refund like all other restaurants. Nice size (but not super big) outside patio (although if you are wanting out there for to go order, then go in and check periodically since no outside speaker to announce your order being ready). Very large indoor dining room. Also a private party area. Whenever we go, we HAVE to get 1-2 large bags of chips and large salsas! They're incredible!! I'm not a fan of their shredded chicken or beef, it's a bit dry for my palate. So I tried the carne asada platter, now that was a good meal! It had with it Mexican rice, refried beans, 2 small tortilla bowls - 1 with guacamole, 1 with pico de gallo. I also recommend their blood orange margarita!! When food was delivered, I made server aware of this issue, said he would take care of refund. Never heard back from this server, had to go talk to someone else to take care of this issue. Refund receipt was not offered, had to request receipt it. We were a group of six, meaning each couple ordered at a different time, when food was supposedly delivered, the server was unsure, asking for a certain number and one couple had a different number, turned out, it was their food, just wrong numbers - very frustrating! At no time during our meal, were we offered additional chips or salsa or asked if we needed anything! After everyone was done eating, we sat and chatted for a little while, at no time did anyone stop by and pick up dirty dishes piled in the center of table! I went here tonight with my fiancé and some classmates for a white elephant gift exchange. I really wanted to like this place. It had good energy until we had our food dropped off. The food runner was awful. She was rushing and dropping the plates on the table without consideration. I felt the table shake. I also asked her about the temperature of the carne asada because my fiancé ordered his medium rare and 3 of us at the table ordered the same plate. She just answered "idk..." and then tried to retract and say "no yeah it is." We cut into all three dishes and they were DRYYYYYY. Literally couldn't finish the dish because of how dry it was.
