We were in the area and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. We ordered the carne asada torta, which my husband rated a 7/10. He said it was good, but the flavors just weren't quite there. They're not your typical taquitos..the shell is much thinner, almost like an egg roll wrapper, which gave them a different texture that I actually liked. My only thought was the value. The two taquitos were almost $10, and for that price I think adding a third taquito would make the portion feel a little more in line with the rest of the menu. It's juicy carnitas (pork) cradled in a soft, fluffy tortilla. Unfortunately, the rice tasted dry and chewy. And the accompanying beans tasted watery and bland. The soft tacos are the genuine reason to visit this location. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I ordered at the counter; I waited about six minutes; and they call out your order to pick-up. Customers can choose to eat at the outdoor patio or inside; the tables all look clean. However, the location feels more catered for to-go. The private parking lot is also huge with plenty of spaces. Ambiance feels fine. There's not really any music, and the counter reminds me of those Wienerschnitzel (hot dog) fast food joints. But Mr. Piggies Taqueria appears to be a local favorite. I saw plenty of customers arriving from their cars or walking from the nearby neighborhood for some food. Overall, it's a good experience. My sextet of asada tacos were good, however they were exceedingly greasy...so much so that the bottom of my takeout bag was lined with a thin, noticeable layer of grease once I retrieved my tray of tacos! Stopped by Mr. Piggies Taqueria in Covina after hearing some buzz about their tacos. It's tucked off the side of a busy road and the ambiance is definitely more casual dive than destination dining--think roadside shack vibes. There's a lot of street noise, especially from passing motorcycles, which made ordering a little tricky. Once we sat down, though, the noise mellowed out and it was easy to enjoy the food. The staff was friendly and patient, even when we asked about customizing our tacos. We had hoped for a little more flexibility though--crunchy tacos sounded amazing, but they said that's only available for the potato taco. If you want meat with the crunchy shell, you can add it, but it's a high upcharge. Our two taco plate ended up at $18.20, which felt a little steep for what we got because portions were much smaller than expected--Honestly felt more like a kids meal in terms of size. That said, the flavors were excellent and kind of saved the day. The carne asada was juicy and well-seasoned, bursting with smoky flavor. The pico de gallo was fresh and had just the right kick. Even the beans--simple as they were--had good flavor. The taco shells we did get were a bit oily though, and it left a small puddle on the plate. Probably not the healthiest thing.
