I've been coming to Maria's for years and then all the sudden Covid hit and they were closed! But not any longer, THEY ARE BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER! Mario's opened back up in March 2023, but since it's off our beaten path we didn't know until we had an appt w a store next door and seen that Mario's was now OPEN. We ordered the Fajitas Estrella, which is shrimp, chicken and beef fajitas. Let me tell you that this was the most tender beef and chicken fajitas that I've ever had! The seasoning was on point. My boyfriend and I have been trying a new Mexican restaurant every week since living in the area and we were excited to try Maria's since we always drive by but unfortunately it was very disappointing. Our waitress was friendly but couldn't get anything right that we would tell her and didn't even know what Corona was. Asked for a hot and mild salsa and she gave us both mild, which just tasted like ketchup. The yellow cheese dip was good, it's one of those things they people either love or hate. The tamales had too much of the ketchupy salsa on them and very little flavor. Even the rice was super mushy. My boyfriend's steak chimichanga had no seasoning, not even salt. One of the ba-jllion Mexican restaurants in the Bentonville area, Maria's is good and inexpensive. Lunch specials in the $5 range are served fast and the dinners go for between $8 to $10. Really, what more could you ask for? Crispy fresh chips are served when you are seated, along with dishes of mild and hot salsa. It's a little mushy for my taste (I prefer pieces of tomato) but it was flavorful and easy to scoop while we waited for our meal. My two-enchilada's lunch was served with the usual rice and beans. The rice was just okay, but the beans were well above average for such a restaurant. I was really looking for a chile relleno, but they didn't have those on the lunch special. My table mates had the taco salad, which was served in those fried shell bowls. It looked pretty good. Would I return? Yes. It's good food, served fast. The food here used to be really good. The carne asada had lots of gristle. They used to put cheese sauce over the burrito, now it's served plain. I was very disappointed, won't be back. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area. The server didn't even bring us all we had ordered. Also they up-charge you if you use a credit card. I thought Maria's would be something special with its nice atmosphere albeit a bit dark but, I wish that they would lower down the price. I can understand though since they probably have to recoup what they have paid for their interior decorator. They were obviously overcharged just like what they are doing to their customers. As for the food, nothing really stood out. I got a fried tilapia which I rarely get since it is just fried which frankly I can do myself at home for a fraction of the cost. But, after seeing the prices of their other offering, that was the only one that looked reasonable. This place is really unremarkable. I do not think they have anything that stands out from other Mexican restaurants around town. At least, Abuelo embraced its identity of an inauthentic Mexican restaurant. This place has the inauthentic feel but with the typical Mexican food. Unfortunately, the price is inauthentic too. So, yeah... you have better options. Either go for the authentic or the inauthentic, but Maria went for the middle ground, picking the worst of each kind. read more

Went here for lunch when visiting for business. We were seated immediately and had multiple salsas delivered to the table with fresh chips. We opted to order the table side made guacamole which was absolutely amazing - highly recommend. I had the lunch combo (chicken and steak) fajitas and was very pleased. Unlike some other Mexican restaurants I've tried, the flavoring and seasoning of the fajitas was perfect. It was accompanied by tortillas, sour cream, beans, rice, lettuce and pico. This was a nice little lunch spot and the service was also spot on. I'll be back next time I'm traveling. read more

This place used to be the standard that I would judge all other Mexican restaurants by. My experience here last Friday night with my family is the worst excuse for Mexican food I have seen. And I have eaten tacos from a literal roadside shack. Chips were overdone. My chimichanga had some sort of yellow paste on it that in third world countries might be called cheese. My wife took one bite from her chicken chimichanga and couldn't eat the rest. I ate all mine and spent the better part of the next day on the toilet. We walked in and stood there without being acknowledged. I had to ask to be seated. We sat down and over ten minutes later we had still not had anyone come see us or take our drink order. I had to ask. Our glasses stayed empty. When they finally brought out my taco salad it was drenched. Floating around in some oily water which soaked right through the shell. They served it to me that way. After I just now complained, the waitress said that's because they microwaved it. Friggin microwaved it. I complained enough to get only that waived off the check. My mate and I have mixed opinions about this restaurant. I enjoyed it for the most part. He wasn't so impressed. I love their chips and salsa, in fact, I'd rate their salsa as the best. It wasn't spicy enough for him. I had the chile relano's, one of my favorite dishes, and wasn't disappointed with it. I didn't care for their Spanish rice, but their refried beans were the best I've had in a restaurant. My mate had the variety enchiladas, and was disappointed that the red and green sauces were mixed together. I ordered their chicken nachos and the chilie rellenos and when I got them, there were hardly any chips, they were cold, and there were absolutely no employees to be found when my order was up, and my order just sat in the window for who knows how long. The rice and beans that come with the chilie rellenos were also cold and flavorless. Between lackluster food and bad customer service, I would not recommend this place to anyone. This is our favorite place to get fresh guacamole in town. It is made at table side if you are wanting to order. Also if you are a big avacado fan like me, their spinach chicken is the way to go. Pretty much one of the worst Mexican meals I have ever had in my life. Waiter was surly. He slopped salsa over the table. When I asked him to clean it up he acted like I'd asked him to do something he shouldn't have to do. When we couldn't stand the rudeness anymore, he shoved my husband to one side while we were leaving to get past us. Unbelievable!
