I think their food is very good!! I ordered 9 tacos and they give you three tacos for $3. With that said, that's ridiculously cheap buttt.... I went there the other day to pick up my take our that should have cost around $40 max (according to their menu). They charged me $68!!!! I got 9 tacos, 1 tordas, chips and salsa and 4 small bottle individual bottles of coke. I was so taken back I asked the waitress to break the check down for me. They decided to up the taco prices up to $11 for three, which would be fair if that's what they had on menu. It still says $3 !! The waitress said sorry but prices went up. I told her you can't triple the amount that's on the menu without letting a customer know when your menu says $3!! That's insane. She didn't care I left there never wanting to return. I must say, this area has some pretty decent Mexican spots, and this one is no different. The restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall, but don't let this stop you... the food is great! The waitress was extremely nice and accommodating. They serve complimentary chips topped with beans and cheese, along with 2 salsas... it was all so good we asked for another round, which she was happy to do! I ordered the enchiladas suizas... delicious! Comes with rice and beans which were both equally as tasty! I would order again! Between here and Parrilla La Forgata - Parrilla is better. I was not impressed with Maria's food. It was average. The restaurant wasn't that clean, the wait staff didn't really understand the food on the menu, and overall the food was average. I will not be back because I feel I can get better quality food at La Forgata and the food is consistently good. read more

Maria's was fantastic! We ordered chicken, steak, and al pastor tacos, all were delicious but the steak was the best! The homemade guacamole was also delicious! I cannot begin to express how terrific this Mexican restaurant is! I crave Mexican constantly. And I could eat here every day. Cute little place in a small strip mall (right next to my favorite Indian resturant) I had the enchilada suiza and it came with rice and beans. The wife had the Heavy urrito, which was loaded with chicken, rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream. My enchiladas were cheesy and the red sauce was delicious. Found this place on DoorDash one day when I wanted tacos for lunch. The steak tacos {I always choose Tex-mex style} are delicious. My daughter loves the birria tacos. Wow, outstanding. I ordered the Mexican tinga tacos with rice and refried beans. Amazing smoky taste, the hot sauce had a ton of flavor, and the refried beans had great texture (not too oily, perfect consistency). Everything had a noticeably just made, fresh taste. I will be back to try other things, but based on this dish alone I would say I found a new favorite spot here in Southern NJ (will update my review if I have a different experience in the future). This was our 5th visit here. The food is really good, however, this time we were very disappointed. We ordered our entrees, $16.99 on the menu, and when we got our bill, they were both $22.99. We also should have gotten our desserts free, per the menu, as on Friday nights. desserts are free with an entrée, but they were charged on the check, even though we asked the waitress about that before ordering them. My husband questioned her about the price of the entrée, and she said that because of the pandemic the prices were raised, however, without any notice to the customers. We told her we should have been told about the $5.00 increase in our food, and we also asked about the dessert. She said the dessert is free with an entree. I guess ours did not qualify as entrees, our $22.99 paella was not an entree! Needless to say, this will be our last time at this restaurant! read more

This was an interesting experience. We were the only people in the whole restaurant for most of the time. We walked in - the restaurant is definitely not one for ambience, not even the homely kind. The waiter was friendly but not very helpful with picking dishes since he was new. Tried a wide variety of dishes between us - chicken mole verde, enchiladas suizas, combo of quesadilla/taco. There were all decent - not super american-ized and doused in cheese, which was appreciated. Also liked that it wasn't greasy. Salsas were ok - a bit watery but good flavor. I personally liked the guarache/huarache. Ordered dessert (low point of the meal) - fried ice cream was not good- the crust was soggy and not crispy (was like they put a coating of cereal on it that soaked in some ice cream). Churros weren't great - they were definitely not fresh, tasted like they were quick-fried to reheat and get them crispy, but they were dry on the outside and not fluffy/moist on the inside. read more

First off the chips were good no problem but than our food comes and I got the grilled chicken with cactus and salad. And everyone in my family agreed how the rice was bland and wet, the beans horrible and our whole meal was wack. My mom got the worst of it. She ordered a seafood based soup and not only did she not get the crab legs that were supposed to be in it but the clams that were in it were nothing more than shells. I can't rate this for anything other than its empanadas because that's all i had... but after those that is all I need ! I called in an order and the woman made them fresh to order which to me is the best way to make empanadas. These aren't some gas station in Newark empanadas which have been siting our all night in a heater barely filled. These are yellow crusted Puerto Rican (or Mexican your choice) stuffed empanadas. I will definitely be back to try their other menus. My husband and I ever do take out or we eat in at least twice a month. Maria's is by far the best authentic Mexican in this area and the added bonus is that it is a byob! The staff is friendly and very family oriented. You can never go wrong with their flautas, tostados or empanadas. I personally always get the trio sampler of a taco, enchilada and burrito with their marinated pork Mexican style, not Tex Mex, and it's always the best. Our waitress was polite and accommodating, offering me plain chips when I informed her that I have a bean allergy.
