This is a "small" mushroom pizza with cheesy garlic bread.

Maria's Pizza is one of this pizza spots in Milwaukee that my friends on the south side rave about regularly. I've been meaning to go sooner but it just never happened. During my visit they were requiring masks and not offering dine in, so call ahead and plan to take the pizza home with you. Also... make sure you have CASH (they don't take cards) - there is an ATM at the bar across the street. If you know these things ahead of time, you can plan for it (a reminder to myself, haha). I ordered a SMALL pizza... what I got was far from a small pizza. Or at least I don't know what a "standard" small is... I can't imagine what a large pizza is! I think their standard style is thin crust, I didn't look beyond that to see options, but it's right up there with Zaffiro's and Hup's. Actually... I kind of want to order Hup's and Maria's to compare the two - they're very similar from what I recall. Basically, if you find yourself on the south side of Milwaukee and have a craving for thin crust pizza, then check out Maria's!

The service is always amazing here. The food is very good in my opinion. I typically like my pizza a little underdone and that's usually how it comes without asking. If you want a bit crispier you should definitely ask. The environment is a Christmas type vibe all year long. Many religious photos around and the decor has been consistent since I started going 15+ years ago. If you have people in your group that have issues getting around, the bathrooms are downstairs and there is no elevator so keep that in mind.

Somehow, the new owners have managed to resurrect Maria's even better than the former! We got a pepperoni supreme and the pizza was loaded with lots of fresh veggies and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was seasoned to perfection and the pizza had the right amount of cheese. Overall this place is great, please make sure they stay going strong!

Last few times pizza was undercooked. Very soggy in the middle and barely any cheese. For $26 it was disappointing.

Came here on a date, and we ordered classic dishes that we love like the carbonara and bolognese pasta dishes. I tried both dishes and the carbonara was my favorite of the two, but honestly, both were not the best pasta dishes I've had at a restaurant - they were okay. We did get bread and salted butter and ordered a cup of creamy clam soup - which was delicious. I would consider the bread, soup, and cocktails the highlight of the meal. The service was great! We had a very attentive server that frequently checked in on our table and answered all of our questions. The dining area is absolutely beautiful and well lit - creating a relaxing and romantic atmosphere for our date night. While the pasta wasn't our favorite, the dining experience was still wonderful and we enjoyed the appetizers/small plates.

I do hope that their pistachio pasta and veal dish don't go away. For starters, I ordered the Seasonal Bruschetta, which had citrusy notes from the diced tomatoes and pickles with mortadella. For the main course, I ordered the Giovanni's Original Veal Parmesan with fettuccine alfredo. This dish is prepared in the style of Parmesan or Corletta served with your choice of pasta. The veal parmesan was nice and crispy. But the most memorable dish of the night was their Fusilloni al Pistachio. The creamy pistachio pesto, Guanciale, and Brontë pistacho panna crudo brought this dish together so well! I loved the sauce so much that I ended up pouring the sauce all over the fettuccini alfredo. Staff was very attentive and friendly--striking the perfect balance between being available when needed and allowing me to enjoy my meal at my own pace. Both appetizers were a hit! We especially enjoyed the Pulpo a la Plancha because the Spanish octopus paired so well with the Romesco sauce, chickpeas, orange and citrus vinegar. This dish was well-balanced and such a memorable dish. For the main course, we ordered the Magret De Canard and the Bistecca. When you arrive, there is a bar with a seating area. There is also another seating area with a separate bar, which is where we sat. What I noticed first is that there are TVs set up throughout the restaurant playing Moonstruck, the 1987 movie with Cher and Nicolas Cage. It runs continuously, and I think without sound. I didn't have a direct line of sight, but I did notice it a few times throughout the evening. It's a quirky thing, and I like it. The inside is dimly lit, but bright enough to read menus and make out all the essentials. The lighting on the bars is a rich red, and it really sets off those areas. The walls are adorned with photos of iconic Italian female movie stars like Sophia Loren. I liked the classic vibe. The place was very loud. We were seated right away and settled in with waters, drinks, and menus. Our server did a nice job walking us through the menu details. It's mostly specialty pizzas, with a few appetizers, salads, and a couple of entrees. For drinks, there were a couple of Santino Sangrias, which were unique in that they included gin, a nice touch. There was also a Paper Plane Martini, which was very good too. I mentioned before that it was loud, and it was especially loud with a large group behind us. It got much better when they cleared out. I noticed that they have sound absorbing materials on some of the walls, which probably helps, just not enough. For dinner, we started off with a couple of Caesar salads. They were a good portion and easily shared by two. The dressing was fresh and the right amount. It was a great start to the meal. I would have liked to try the calamari, but nobody else was interested, maybe next time. There were three pizzas at the table, Margherita, Paisan, and a make your own with cheese, sausage, mushroom, and onion. I decided to be different and tried the Gigante Meatball Plate. The pizzas are Neapolitan, with bubbly, charred edges. All of them had excellent presentation and flavor. Neapolitans are not known for their sturdy centers, so you have to hold on tight to keep everything from sliding off. As expected, the meatball was very large. It's served with penne pasta, which was okay, though I would have preferred spaghetti. The sauce and cheese had good flavor. A solid entree, though not amazing. We were celebrating a birthday, so we saved room for a few shared desserts. We tried the flourless cake, tiramisu, and the chocolate hazelnut gelato. They were all good choices, satisfying, but again, not amazing. Lots to like about this place. Nice atmosphere, great service (thanks Tommy), and an excellent selection of pizzas. Would come back again, and this time order one of the specialty pizzas (Da Vinci).
