Whoever thought it was alright to give us a shitty attitude at the host stand before we could even get any type of service from the wait staff. Rolled her eyes the moment we said "5 and a high chair." Then told us there was a 40 minute wait - multiple open tables & no one in line in front of our party. When we asked about all the open tables she snapped "the one that's being bussed? It's reserved." And made sure to be a smart ass about it. If you're expecting a polite and welcoming experience - you won't get that here. Not to mention being screamed at by a teenager behind the host stand to "HAVE A GREAT NIGHT" after they were so rude and degrading. read more

Did the food live up to the hype? No. Sadly, our visit to Maria's was not the visit we had hoped for. Our server was... well, I'm not sure how to put it, let's just say he didn't seem to be present at work that day, but we roll with punches around here, and we ordered our food. I absolutely loved the teriyaki wings. They were cooked perfectly. The sauce was great, and my only critique would be the blue cheese, which was not the same quality as the wings themselves. The bread service was terrible. I am not exactly sure what kind of bread that was supposed to be, but it was improperly cooked and tasted very bitter. We were able to jazz it up with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar that was left on the table. I ordered the margarita pizza and was excited because of all the buzz around the pizza at Maria's. It was fine. It just wasn't the quality of pizza I was looking for. The sauce was fresh and had a great tomato flavor, but lacked any sort of spice of any kind. The crust was decent. It was probably the best part of the pizza. That cheese was a good flavor, but one bite and the whole cheese was coming off with the pizza into your mouth. The tomatoes were cut a little too thick so they didn't get quite cooked well enough on top of the pie. My friends marsala also lacked in flavor. The sauce was missing that delicious wine element and it was kind of on the bitter side. It wants to be marsala, but it's not. I have to give extra credits to the manager who came around and talked to us and took our critiques seriously. One thing we did forget to mention was that their booths are like sitting on the gym bleachers in high school and for any extended period of time they can become increasingly uncomfortable. I could see maybe how some people enjoyed Maria's, it just wasn't for us, so keep an open mind. Maybe Maria's is for you and maybe it's not but you have to give them a try to find out. read more

Maria's is always our go to on our first night in OIB. We aren't in the mood to stand in line and just want to unpack and chill. The pizza is so delicious and the Antipasto salad is phenomenal. You have to go next door for ice cream as well. Such a great stop. We go at least 2X a week. read more

I am a local. Have been in Sunset Beach part time since 1981 and full time since 2021. Growth has been good in the respects that we have more variety of restaurants and services. So, pizza is always a topic since. Many have moved here from northern parts and complain about the absence of "good pizza". I have been in the area for all my life And have never found a reason to complain about pizza, or bagels for that matter. Now, many of our transplants are northerners who have opened restaurants that meet the criteria for "good pizza". Unfortunately they don't meet the service standards that us locals are used to. Joey O's worked for awhile but they couldn't handle the tourist influx. We gave up and patronized Maria's at OIB. Worked pretty good until tourist season. Messed up orders and late notification of the readiness of pick up orders. I mean, how hard is it to put an extra rance dressing in an order of wings? Happened 3 times. And cold pizza as well. So we will find another place. Can't believe we tip them generously on take out orders. Take note restaurants, locals keep you afloat for many months when tourist aren't here. And if you don't staff adequately when we want to patronize you between Memorial Day and Labor Day, we won't bother with you the rest of the year. read more

Tried this place out after many recommendations, service was okay just took forever, the environment was good but a little loud and crowded (seating) more of a bar style restaurant than somewhere I want to bring my child again.. there were a lot of older people drinking and being loud. The pizza was not as great as I was expecting, I had a hair in my food to top it off.. I didn't complain I just declined a box and went about my night. I don't think I'll be returning here. Omg this place was so delicious! I saw this place on social media & I'm so glad we decided to go! The pizza was absolutely delicious. Definitely some of the best pizza I've had. The crust was the perfect texture - chewy but not too chewy. We got the Mediterranean pizza which has garlic & olive oil as the base & I highly recommend. The sausage tasted so fresh and flavorful. The pizza had so much cheese which is always a plus with pizza (or any food really). The service was great even though we had to wait a little bit to be seated because it was busy. The owner also came around to make sure everything was good. There's a good amount of seating but it does get crowded - definitely worth the wait though. Parking is easy because there's a parking lot. Definitely on my restaurant list when we come to visit the beach again! read more

We stopped by here for a quick meal. The service was good all around and we were sat pretty quick. The Mediterranean Pizza was really good. I got it without olives and added pepperoni which was a great decision. Probably one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. The toppings and cheese tasted really fresh. We were in the area and decided we wanted pizza. I checked Yelp and Maria's had the best ratings. Glad we stopped. We walked in and placed an order for pizza and calzone. They had a special so we added wings. Service was quick and I have to say this is the best pizza I have found in the area. The wings had good flavor and the perfect crunch. The only things I would change are personal preference - the calzone tomato sauce was too chunky and the calzone could have used more ricotta. Everything else was very good and we will be making Maria's our new pizza stop. read more

Great experience! After lots of traffic getting to the island on July 5, we decided to dine in which we never do. Cheryl (not sure of spelling) was our awesome server. Right outside of the bridge into Ocean Isle Beach near the Eagles shop, in a plaza with ample parking. Outside and inside seems real nice, I ordered take out so don't have much to comment. The ordering process was simple, you can call in or do online. Staff was friendly and food was ready at the time stated. The pasta pescatore I ordered was a little bland but still good. The focaccia bread was delicious! The hot and habanero flavored wings were also tasty, with good ranch provided. I would order from here again if I'm back in the area! Prices are in the moderate range for dinner but you get big portions in my opinion so it's worth it. read more

I heard the pizza was over the top here but it really was. First off, Mondays are half off of a bottle of wine so the place was packed with patrons having vino. We tried the meatball app - those were delicious. But the pizza was so good. We tried the ricotta, garlic, basil and tomato pizza. Wowza! And the crust was perfecto! For some reason take out pizzas are overly thick on the dough and IMHO under cooked. On three separate occasions I ordered the large "Maria" pizza with the options of "thin" and "crispy" through the "Toast" app. All three times when I got my pizza home I had to finish them off in my oven. The onions and peppers were still almost crispy and the crust was just lightly brown. Even after cooking in my oven until the crust was a dark brown the pizza crust was still so soft I had to eat it with a fork and knife. Heard good things, so came in from Sunset Beach island to give it a try. We came a bit early (mid May) and was seated immediately. It filled up quickly as we ate our dinner, so can see this being a long wait during busy season. I ordered the chicken piccata as my entrée and my friend ordered the tortellini. Piccata was good, but I thought the sauce was a little bit watery. Not one of the best I've had, but it was good. The Tortellini Michaelangelo was absolutely amazing. My friend loved it and it was her second time ordering. I sampled it and could not believe how amazing it was (was having a little regret not ordering:) A bit salty, but matter of opinion. Side salads with both and they were a nice size. This place is a jackpot right off the Ocean Isle Beach island, but expect a wait or make reservations. I can only speak to the takeout service. Ordered a couple pies and they were ready at time promised and we enjoyed them. Thicker crust on the edges, thin in the middle. Extremely disappointed in their incompetence and false advertising. To start, I ordered a wheat beer on tap that they had replaced with a different beer. I asked if the replacement was the same style as the one that was removed, and the bartender said "yes" - but I got an IPA instead of a wheat beer. Anyone who knows beer understands that an IPA is a million miles apart from a wheat beer. To add insult to injury, I inquired about their "deep dish" pizza and ended up ordering one. While the taste was fine, it wasn't even close to a deep dish pizza. It was 100% a Sicilian pizza. How they could possibly confuse the two is beyond me. I'd spend my money elsewhere if I were you. We had takeout from here. We did not sit at the restaurant. The food was absolutely tasty. However, it's a little bit pricey to charge $25 for a chicken piccata dish and $25 for a chicken Parmesan dish both of which had really small, thin pieces of chicken breast. Bottom line: Maria's Pizzeria delivered a pizza with good toppings and sauce but I felt the crust was too doughy and almost underdone for my taste (however you can order it extra done if wanted, I would do so next time). If you order online, easiest to just order one of their specialities as special orders could be not as simple to do. Delivery time was better than predicted and decent considering mid-summer season. I'd go with 3.5 stars this time. The Deets: On the last night at Ocean Isle Beach, we did not want to wait for a long period in line at some of the restaurants around so we decided to get pizza delivery from Maria's Pizzeria. At first, we thought we would get half pizza one way/number of toppings and half pizza another way but found that their online delivery ordering process made this idea not an easy move for us...so we opted just to get a large Maria's (house specialty) pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, red peppers, and tomato sauce as it was easy to order online. The delivery was made within a reasonable amount of time (less than the 80 minutes predicted). The toppings and sauce tasted good, in adequate amount but not over generous. However I have to say that their website-described hand tossed signature Neapolitan dough made a crust that was too doughy and too floppy (almost underdone for me) for my personal preference which I admit I like a bit more crispy/thinner. You do have a place online to indicate if you would like it done a bit extra and I would definitely use that feature in ordering in the future for myself. But, again, taste wise I thought that it was good. Maria's house speciality pizza did the trick for a spur decision pizza delivery night at OIB before leaving out back home in the a.m. Knowing their website and online choices now, I think I would make some selections in the future that would make the experience better for me. read more

Baked Ziti was delicious, red sauce is on point. Zitis were cooked perfectly great quality mozzarella. Chicken Cutlet was pounded just right and seasoned and cooked perfectly! OMG AND THEIR CREAMY ITALIAN DRESSING IS EVERYTHING! This is a hard dressing to find at a restaurant period. When I knew they had it got excited and it lived up to all expectations!!! We called the restaurant twice to check on our order. They were apathetic and unhelpful to our situation. First, when you walk in the door, I noticed the home-like smells from the kitchen. We ordered pizza and salads and all of our food was fresh and delicious.
