For my meal, I enjoyed their shrimp enchiladas plate, and they were absolutely delicious. The creamy sauce and melted cheese took the dish to another level. My wife had the enmoladas de pollo enchilada plate. Enmolada chicken enchiladas are a traditional Mexican dish consisting of chicken-filled enchiladas covered in mole sauce. Mole sauce is a rich and complex sauce made from a variety of ingredients, including chili peppers, chocolate, nuts, seeds, and spices. The enmolada chicken enchiladas are filled with cooked and shredded chicken and rolled up. The enchiladas are then placed in a baking dish and covered with mole sauce. The dish is topped with queso fresco and baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Mouthwatering delicious! The service here was friendly and attentive, and the prices were reasonable. My only minor quibble was with the taste of the beans. The texture was off-putting, as they were overly mushy and lacked any hint of firmness. They were just okay. Additionally, the appetizer salsa chip was disappointing. It was tasteless and lacked any spice or kick. It was nothing more than a watery tomato sauce that added nothing to the overall dining experience. I expected a salsa with better quality and a strong, intense kick of hot spicy flavor. Maria's Restaurant is a nice little gem that serves up some of the most authentic Mexican dishes in Simi. The restaurant's no-frills atmosphere puts the focus on the food, and it doesn't disappoint. Used to love this place but unfortunately do not eat here anymore. The last time I got take out from here they charged me $18 for a large side of salsa! Tried eating in the restaurant after that so that we weren't charged that much again. When the bill came THEY CHARGED US FOR REFILLING CHIPS AND SALSA. I hope they read this and can turn around their policies and right the ship. read more

Very impressed with our meal! I have heard pleasant reviews about Maria's but with so many other Mexican options locally it's hard to visit them all. After trying Maria's I can confirm this place as being one of the better (top 3 IMO) in Simi Valley. Really good considering. I tried their chicken mole and my wife had their enchiladas verdes. Came here on a whim of being hungry and seeing a cute sign outside Big Lots when I picked up on order. I reside in the valley and we have a lot of meh Mexican restaurant's. Walked in and were greeted immediately. Was asked if we wanted breakfast or lunch menu. I said lunch. Was asked if we wanted chips and salsa...YES please! Great chips and salsa, but to be fair I would never say no to chips and salsa, however these seemed very fresh to me. I ordered the BLOOD ORANGE Margarita, so good! Blood orange is not a typical flavor so when you see it-GET IT! I ordered street tacos. Simple order but the flavor was GREAT. Chicken and asada marinated and cooked perfectly. My daughter had the dorado tacos and of course I sampled! Another score! I ordered a cucumber jalapeño margarita. OMG, this B is HOT but so good! I had brunch at this location alone, quite a few years ago. I loved it but forgot about it until my girlfriend and I were looking for a nice brunch spot. They definitely didn't disappoint!! Talk about a hidden gem, Maria's is definitely one of those. Not only were they open for dinner on New Year's Day, but the staff was cordial and the food wonderful. My wife had the Enchiladas Ranchero and really enjoyed them. She even enjoyed their refried beans which is not one of her favorite Mexican dishes. I had the pork chop Al Pastor and was in awe of both the size, taste and the fact that is was moist and tender. Wow! Great food and very attentive service. We were celebrating the election and called in to order. 1) Prices did not match their website and we were surprised by the bill we got when we went to pick it up. 2) Later saw we were charged a $10 surplus to our bank which I guess means they took a tip off a carry out order. It did not mention it anywhere on the receipt. Make sure to double check your receipt and ask them what the cost is before you hang up the phone. Food did not live up to the shady practice. Very nice breakfast. I had never eating here before and a group of friends met up. I had a standard 2 egg scramble with bacon hash browns and toast. The eggs were cooked correctly and the bacon was very tasty. The rye toast was exceptional. The hash browns were a little oily. Today was my 3rd visit to this restaurant - so time to review. This visit was at noon on Sunday. My two others were a weeknight for dinner and a lunch on Saturday. First of all, the service is very quick and very friendly. This is a real plus - and they were quite busy today. The sauces and salsas are obviously homemade and very, very fresh tasting. Today I got lucky and they had to make me some fresh chips to nosh on. Very good!! I started with a cup of Albondigas soup - really, it was a nice sized bowl portion. A little bland tasting although a black pepper fixed that. The vegatables and meatballs were very fresh. I would order this again by itself for lunch. I also had the Relleno combination and an ala carte pork tamale. I was a little disappointed in both. The rellano wasn't really that hot (serving temperature) but again, the verde sauce and cheese topping same were good. The batter was too thin and the cheese was only slightly melted. This particular chili was not completely cleaned of seeds either. Overall, I've had better. The Pork Tamale was very meaty and nice seasoned. I thought the masa was a little too thick and doughy... But again, the sauce and cheese topping same were very good. With a refillable Diet Coke, tax and tip, I signed the slip for $30.00 even...one person...for lunch. A little pricey for the overall experience in my opinion. I can comfortably offer 4 stars, but I have to admit, after 2 other similar experiences, I probably will try other places in Simi Valley when I am carving Mexican. Not bad...just...well...only a bit above average. read more

The decor of the restaurant is amazing. Beautiful tile floor. The color scheme of brown and gold with a touch of green works perfectly. They have a full bar which was inviting except I don't drink. I started with the bean chorizo dip. It was tasty with a golden brown crust of cheese on top. Order the Maria's Fajitas (combo of steak, chicken and shrimp). I was pleasantly suprised by the equal amounts of all meats. The beans and rice were spot on, not bland like many Mexican restaurants. The hostess was friendly and acommodating.
