Authentic and Delicious!…read more I was in the area with my family, and we decided to stop in for a bite. We walked in late one Sunday afternoon and were seated promptly. Our waiter was a polite gentleman who was pleasant and affable. I ordered a mango margarita and my sister had a Paloma. The margarita appeared to have been dispensed from a pre-made container. It wasn't something that was freshly blended. It was decent but a little too sweet. I didn't finish it and ended up ordering a Coke later. My sister enjoyed her Paloma though. My mom had a ground beef taco and a chicken tinga taco. She didn't like the chicken but enjoyed the beef. My sister and I both had the rice and beans. For tacos, we ordered chicken tinga, Carne asada, and al pastor. The tacos were phenomenal. They were flavorful, tender, and authentic. The tacos are small, like street tacos, but it was more than enough. The rice and beans were also tasty. My sister didn't care for the rice, but I enjoyed it. We all agreed that we'd visit Maiz & Barrio again. The restaurant vibe was lively and comfortable. The restaurant decor is tasteful with vibrant colors and beautiful wall art. The restaurant is a decent size, so the tables aren't too close together. The bill was $116 for the three of us, which included a 22% tip.

Everything is made in house and I really enjoyed that the chips come out hot and fresh. The fajitas are our favorite but you can't go wrong with anything from the flavorful menu. Margaritas were also great!

It has a pretty simple menu of a few items or so. At least it makes it easier to choose anything. The prices are okay and the food is better than it looks. Bad thing is there's no alcohol. It's not a place for margaritas, but rather Jarritos. That's why they have to make good on the food, so you can at least get something. For meat eaters the menu is mostly for them with things like beef and chicken. There's also crazier things like tongue. It's about $8 for guacamole. Pretty much the only vegetarian thing on the menu it seems. Had a chunkiness with a light spiciness to it. The tortilla chips were crispy and simple without being burnt like at many places. For sure it's one of the many places to get Mexican food. It's located on Cicero Avenue at 137th Street. They're open until late at night so you can go when getting the munchies or something.

The salsa has a lot of onions. The flavor is great! And the chips are made in house freshly fried. We also ordered bottled Coke (sugar not HFCS) and water. The place has a welcoming, casual atmosphere. There is choice of seating: booth, table, or bar side. It's clean and well attended. The wait staff was nice. The chef even came to clarify some things on my order (how I wanted my egg) and checked on me afterwards with future suggestions. I'll be back. I seated myself in a booth. Fresh made chips and salsa choices were brought to the table with napkins and utensils. Rhodes chips were just right. They were made from good tortillas, crisp fried in clean oil. I could have just had that for breakfast. I needed proteins, so I chose the Chilaquiles con Huevo in green salsa. I was told the red was not spicy but can be adjusted to my liking. My eggs (2) were over easy (well executed), served over cheesy corn fried tortilla strips with sour cream, tomatoes, refried beans, rice and guacamole. I make it through half the dish. The rest was taken home and eaten the next day. Just as tasty. I have more s dishes to try and a Summer month to do it.

La Cocina De Mama is one of the popular places to drink and eat along this particular stretch. Far from authentic. They focus more on look and taste. Came in and got seats at the bar. It's often crowded and this time was no exception. There was a wait for a table. Of course cocktails. We got a couple of these. It's about $13 for a margarita. The Cucumber Margarita is great stuff. It's about $12 for a burrito. Menu has a good amount to choose from. I got the Vegetariano Burrito. This has beans, cheese which I left off, lettuce, rice, and tomatoes. Filling. There's even more items if looking. Great stuff to drink and eat. It's located on 95th Street at Massasoit. There's a few things for vegetarians.

We arrived around 4 pm and there was about a 25 minute wait. It is cozy so there were people waiting outside. The decor is more modern than traditional. They have a bar and TVs. Staff are warm and friendly and our server was Dulce. It was a busy day yet she would periodically check in to see how we were doing. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was made fresh at our table and hubby added a little more salt to it. We were also served a small bowl of salsa. The chips are warm and fresh. Hubby ordered the combo fajitas and a strawberry margarita. I ordered the steak enchiladas rojas and a pina colada. Everything was seasoned well and we enjoyed our meals. Kudos to the bartender for making great drinks!
