Simply outstanding on every level. I went to Marib Restaurant last night with my father. We are both novices to Yemeni cuisine, but I saw the great rating on Yelp and decided to give this place a shot. It's officially my new favorite restaurant! Like other users indicate, the restaurant is located under the old signage "BBQ Delight". We were immediately greeted by our server, Mohammed, who was super friendly and helpful. Since we had no idea what to order, he made suggestions for us. We started with the shafoub, a yogurt-based salad dish served upon a spongey bread. Based on its description, it's something I would never order, but it was suggested to us. It was amazing. Light, refreshing, and delicious. We both shared the haneeth and fahsa for dinner and they were each unbelievable!! The fahsa is braised beef, kind of like a stew, served with warm pita bread. Not kidding, it's very likely the best dish I've ever eaten. The haneeth was also impressive-- a huge portion of tender lamb served on a mountain of rice. Mohammed brought us complementary dessert and coffee, both of which were to die for. We were blown away by the service and food. Truly a great experience. You should absolutely go here, I will definitely keep coming back!! read more

Interesting food - different from the typical Middle Eastern food that's commonly found. Shared beef sambousa, shafout, foul, fahsa with lamb and mathlootha with haneeth. Shafout was interesting but I wasn't a fan of the underlying spongy bread - great to try though. Fahsa was ok, sambousa and mathlootha were delicious! Very very average food. Ordered the shafout which took up an entire menu page with it's history... it's straight up raita (for my paki or indian friends) poured on a spongy bread. Something we put a little bit of on bbq or spicy rice dishes. Ordered the mandi. Chicken was tender and well cooked! Lacked flavors/seasoning but that might be the norm for yemeni food. The rice was not cooked properly, still has some water left so needed to be covered and cooked for longer. Basic stuff like that. Hummus and bread were on point! Coffee was weak. This is my favorite restaurant in the metropolitan DC area and I have been here numerous times, and guess what...I plan to go again. So If you are a local resident and have yet to discover this place, then you are seriously missing out on a culinary delight. For a first time diner at this fine establishment, I humbly recommend you start of your meal with maraq soup, next try the shafout salad, and for the entré you cannot go wrong with their pièce de résistance, haneeth. I freely admit I'm a novice with Yemeni cuisine, my sum total of knowledge knowing of saltah, chicken mandi, and bint al-sahn. But I decided to stop in for lunch and I'm glad I did. I chose the saltah and was treated to a boiling stew of vegetables that was just amazing. Doubly so with the fenugreek foam upon it. Trebly so with the great bread to dip in it. (I also got a Vimto because...why not?! :) ) Couple all that with great service and I can't wait to come back to try more. read more

Excellent restaurant, with what seems to be authentic Yemeni food. The spices in the Fahsa and Salta are spot on, the bread is delicious, and the desserts are fantastic. Overall, a wonderful Yemeni restaurant that we are eager to try again. That said, we do have two comments for the owners: - It is strange to see modern art displayed, rather than more authentic arabic-style photos (perhaps photos of beautiful Yemen). - We went there for a Sunday lunch, and there was only one server who clearly was overworked. For instance, when we ordered dessert, it took forever to come, and our table was not cleaned from the many dishes we had earlier. That made the experience less enjoyable. read more

My wife and my kids has been coming here more than three times, but the last time We came here we've noticed that this people charge you tip even though we was only 3 of us. I didn't notice the tips the first two times the tips on the bill and I was given them double the tip without knowing and they never pointed out about charging me the tip so they are double dipping on customers please watch out and don't give them double the tip. This is how they fool you, they bring the bill without the tip, then ones you give them the CC the tip is automatically added; but when you receive your final bill after they charge your CC it also have a tip area where they want more tip. I have never had Yemeni food before Marib.. but let me tell you that the food here is AMAZING. Quality is AMAZING.. flavors are AMAZING. I swear they put crack in their special yellow-toned basmati rice. If you were to scan my brain while I was eating this rice, you would see the same part of my brain that lights up due to cocaine/love light up. You really cannot go wrong with any dish here.. I really enjoy their stews and the lamb dishes. The lamb is always so juicy and tender and paired along with their special rice.. don't get me started. I highly recommend ordering the mint-lime pitcher even if for yourself, can't have enough that refreshing beverage. Their selections can easily be called comfort food for all cultures alike, vegetarian and meat lovers delight. Initially I gave them a 5 star review because the food is DELICIOUS;. Then I thought well 4.5 because the service can be a tad on the slow/disorganized side. But today, I bump it down to a 3. The portions here are gigantic! You will have leftovers no matter what. So it can sometimes feel wasteful. Otherwise, it was good good savory food. However, this morning I was bloated and felt super sluggish...the exact same feeling I get after I eat Chinese food loaded with MSG. I hate MSG. It's so disappointing to think that they could have used MSG to improve the flavor. No wonder I thought what I did yesterday. We got the Fahsa/Saltah w Hulba and beef; the Qulbah Chicken. Very impressive. Excellent Yemeni cuisine. I took my German, American, Argentinian and Portuguese friends , their first time, for a Yemeni traditional dinner at Marib Restuarant. Unbelievable food, according to Mike. Ann Marie, who comes from the land of steak Argentina, couldn't believe the great taste of the tender meat dish with rice. I had their chicken over rice. I assumed the rice had yogurt and that's what I was going to have, but the rice was really dry. I didn't eat the chicken, but my boyfriend said the chicken didn't have too much flavor. The food didn't look anything like the pictures on yelp. I felt like we were given leftover rice or something. My boyfriend liked their lamb, he said it was tender but then again not as flavorful as we thought. Their lentil soup wasn't very good either. I'm being generous with the 3 starts but honestly the only thing good was their "limeade". I wouldn't go back especially driving 45 mins away from home. Very disappointing. read more

Curious about Yemeni cuisine so we went here since they are listed as one of Washingtonian eats. Kind of disappointed the lamb dish we ordered in not available and the Babaganoush is kind of bland, like mass-produced kind in big batches. There was no complimentary dates provided at the end of the meal and food was average, nothing stood out. The only thing that made an impression was the freshly made lime juice. This review is for the Iftar buffet. The food was ok, but I wasn't wow'ed. The food: We received dates and samosas/sambousas at our table for Iftar - they were good. The buffet itself did not have as much variety as I was expecting. The chicken mandi was a little bland, and the chicken in it was really dry. This was the only chicken in the buffet line, until we were finishing up our meal and they brought out another chicken dish. That chicken was also really dry. The kofta was dry too. The hummus and baba ghanouj were mediocre. On the other hand, my husband really liked the lamb and thought it was very tender. The vegetable stew was really good, and the soups were delicious! By the time we were ready for dessert, there was only one available (a pudding with fruit), but it was really good. Restaurant/Service: The restaurant itself is quite big and as expected, it was busy at this time. We had made a reservation, and both the man on the phone and the servers were friendly. The buffet is overpriced ($25) for what you get. I also don't understand why some places automatically add gratuity to your bill for two people. Other: Why oh why must they make customers use plastic plates and styrofoam cups. I'm not sure if this how they usually serve food, or if this was just for Ramadan. I cringed even more about having to take a brand new plate each time I went up to the buffet line. This alone would make me think twice about coming back. We were both pretty flabbergasted that this place has received so many accolades. Or any, for that matter. Apart from the service, I can't think of much positive to say. The cup of broth was extremely salty. The fatoush salad of mostly iceberg lettuce and tomatoes was pretty meh. The dish that the Post said was a must-try was pretty, but okay tasting at best. First time trying Yemeni food and it was great!! The meat melted off the bones and each bite was full of flavor!! We started with an order of hummus and sambousa with meat, which was seasoned ground beef wrapped up and deep fried. There was a dipping sauce that was also brought out that our waiter said can be used with anything and everything that we ate. Which went well with the sambousa. For our main, we got the Saltah, Fansa (beef), and the Chicken Mathloothah. We loved the Saltah and Fansa together. The Saltah was like a veggie soup and the Fansa was like slow cooked shredded beef. The Chicken Mathloothah was a three layer dish that consisted of some type of yummy sauce on the bottom, flavorful rice, topped off with chicken that melted off its bones. Just ordered dinner for carry out: chicken sambousa - crispy pastry with seasoned ground chicken chicken muqlqal - middle eastern chicken stew with green peppers, tomatoes and onions beef fahsa - shredded beef stew 3 naan bread Ordered online and the food was ready in less than 20 minutes as stated online. Very well packaged and no concerns of food spilling. Now for the best part....the food was all absolutely delicious. The sambousas were a great starter and comes with a tomato like salsa and a spicy green sauce...beware it's got heat for sure. I had the chicken muqlqal before and loved it. It's part of their breakfast menu but had it for lunch previously. Again it didn't disappoint. It's almost like chicken fajitas but with middle eastern spices. Service was not attentive at all, guy who said to be a manager was serving our table and he wasn't able to explain the dishes well. We didn't get what we ordered, portions were not similar to the price, and took really long time for our food to arrive at our table. Food wasn't good as we expected. Price: For a appetizer, entrée and dessert, we spent about $36 Food: We had complimentary lamb soup, which was so flavorful for being just a broth. For our appetizer we got ground beef mixture in pastries with a salsas like sauce on the side. The pastry was very flaky and had a nice crisp on the outside. The ground beef mixture was seasoned well. The entree was a lamb in a tomato based broth. It was amazing especially with the side of bread we got with it. I really wanted to like this place as I love Yemeni food and have read many reviews about it. Food is good, service is friendly however, very inattentive. We ordered an appetizer which never came, in the end when I mentioned it to the waiter, he said sorry I forgot to give the order to the kitchen. Don't worry I won't charge you for that. What?? Why would you even say that? Anyhow in the beginning when the salad came out it had a piece of plastic in it! Yuck!!!! Further more while in the car as my husband was driving all the way from L'burg to Springfield I was checking out the reviews and one with the credit card not being return etc .... guess what he forgot to give our credit card back too!! My husband asked it promptly and they said oh I forgot. And went back to the counter to grab it. All in all they forgot two things and served salad with plastic piece (see picture). This place lived up to the hype. I met a colleague for a very late lunch and had the restaurant basically to ourselves. The woman who helped us was very nice, and knowledgeable about the menu. Having never had Yemeni food before, she recommended a dish from each category, which we ordered. The hummus w meat was great, but I think I enjoyed the bread even more so. I got the lamb and rice dish, which comes w a ton of rice and three pieces of lamb. Plenty of food, especially for a lunch. The lamb was slow cooked, and fell off the bone in delicious juicey bites. I have never tried Yemeni food before. I have eaten at afghan restaurants and eaten lebanese food and figured they have similar food. Marib is a Yemeni Restaurant, hidden in a shopping center where Fresh World (asian/latin) grocery store is located. My family and I went there for my brother's birthday and wanted to try something different. The food is amazing! The decor looks nice and the place is clean. By the way, try the pitcher of LIME JUICE. so refreshing and you won't regret ordering the juice. We ordered 2 appetitizers (Hummus with meat & babaganoush) to start off our dinner. OMG the hummus was so good, it was super creamy and the lamb meat was so fresh and did not have that gimey taste. The babaganoush was so delicious and light. The waitress also gave us complimentary yemeni salad and meat bone soup broth. The salad was very refreshing, the restaurant definitely made their own dressing as a citrus vinegeratte. As for entrees, we ordered the Haneeth, Chicken Mandi, Mathloothah, Fahsa, and the shakshouka. The Haneeth was the tender lamb dish with rice. The lamb was so fresh and meaty. My favorite dish though was the Fahsa, the beef stewed with yummy sauce. Great for dipping with bread. it was so flavorful and hearty. The chicken dishes were good, but the white meat portion was a little drier for my taste. The shakshouka is a breakfast dish with scrambled eggs and tomato. tasty. now for desserts: get the Bin Al Sahn, it is a giant round layered pastry dish, drizzled with honey and seasme seeds. SOOOOOO GOOOD. it literally melts in your mouth while you eat it. Its pricey, but so worth the money because it takes a while to cook and I was told they had to put 17 layers of pastry into that dish. Its not overly sweet which was good. We also tried the ma'soob, its a mushed banana and bread dish, topped of with honey and cream. It was delicious. the dish came out so warm, and it also melts in your mouth. The cream with the honey made it a perfect balance. So GOOD. Overall, my experience was top notch. The waitress and the owner were super nice and the food was so flavorul. The owner came to talk to us after dinner, and he has a great sense of humor. I want to come back to try their friday lunch buffet, he says the buffet has every dish on the menu. Since none of my table had ever had Yemen food before the staff gave great recommendations and after we had ordered they brought samples of drinks they thought we would be interested in! We are talking the best cuisine delivered to my house by any restaurant in the 22151 area. Fresh, hot, delicious, different and plentiful. If you are looking to get away from pizza and Chinese, this is it. Had no idea what Yemeni food was/is, but I was game and boy did it pay off. I'm not going to get into every dish, but this is not your your run of the mill, Middle Eastern fare. You'll never have hummus this good. The pita was fresh and huge.
