I have no clue why this is rated so low. Three friends and I rolled in 45 minutes before closing and ordered 15 things (we aren't usually like this, the last restaurant we were at we sat for 20 minutes without a server approaching, so we left) and they speedily brought out every dish, and it was all delicious! They were kind and courteous, didn't rush us, merely informed us when the kitchen was closing and worked with us to order the perfect amount of food. This Lebanese Taverna is averaging a 3.5-star rating on Yelp, and that's right on the money. We made a reservation on OpenTable in advance, but it really wasn't necessary - plenty of seating was available for a weekend dinner. Service was curt and not the warmest. Drinks were not refilled, and anytime we needed anything, we had to flag service down. Food was tasty overall and prepared quickly. The meal started off with complimentary pita bread, which was hot and fresh from the oven, and came with a sesame seed and za'atar spiced olive oil for dipping. Entrees were good portion sizes and were fair for the price (considering the area). The Chef's Platter is a great sampler of Lebanese cuisine. It also had cute presentation ~ this dish caught everyone's eye and will definitely be ordered next visit. It also pairs well with the pita bread. Aside from the dips, it's not really meant to serve as an appetizer for sharing. The Shawarma (beef and lamb) sandwich was a hefty portion of meat (they really STUFFED this thing with meat) and comes with your choice of a salad, rice, or fries. Though it is served with tahini, I would've preferred a garlic sauce or tzatziki. The shawarma sandwich was adequate but nothing to write home about. It comes in the same type of pita provided at the beginning of the meal. We were celebrating a birthday, and management was kind enough to provide a small dessert to the birthday girl on the house, which is always a nice gesture. Came here with a large group and they were easily able to accommodate us. We ordered the red wine sangria to start. It was very sweet and didn't have that much fruit. When we mentioned this, our server brought out a small bowl with chopped apples that we could put in our drink, but I do wish that there were more fruit in the sangria to begin with. As for food, the warm pita bread that they bring out is very delicious! I think that, along with the sesame dip may have been the highlight of my meal. For my entree, I opted for the kebab Taverna platter, which comes with a protein + rice + hummus + fattoush salad. The salad was assertively tangy and drenched in the salad (possibly too tangy as a result of too much salad dressing). The kebab was on the blander and drier side. This place never disappoints. The food comes out quickly, the drinks (mixed) are unique and delicious. The servers are polite, courteous and authentic. If you are not Lebanese (neither am I), and don't know what to order, try one of the platters. It's 9 portions of absolute culinary mastery. The shawarma rolls are also very good. This was where a few coworkers and I stopped for dinner this past Friday after a day of meetings. A coworker suggested this spot and it was a great find for middle eastern food! Service was also top notch; our server did not rush the group out and explained the ingredients and dishes. My chicken shawarma sandwich was served on a fluffy pita bread, with a light (not overpowering) garlic sauce, fresh tomatoes and filled with tender chicken breast. With a side of crispy fries, this could easily have been a meal on its own. The fries were hot, and as good with zaatar (thyme) seasoning as well as with the ketchup brought to our table. The lentil side i ordered was also a yummy & generous portion. This hearty soup had plenty of beans and a hint of heat I enjoyed. The cool baba ganoush was a refreshing and tasty contrast. Lebanese Taverna is located in the Pentagon City mall and in line with a DC Metro station as well as walking distance of the other cafes and breweries. I love Lebanese Taverna! I have eaten at the one in Woodley Park many times and was very excited to see on in Pentagon City, so close to the hotel where we were staying for a work conference. After a long day of workshops, 10 of us took off for dinner. We did not have reservations and were delighted that Lebanese Taverna was able to accommodate us within about 10-15 minutes. Upon being seated, our server suggested that large parties usually enjoy the family style dinner, where everyone would get to eat a little bit of everything. We thought that sounded great. So then the parade of food began. We had hummus, we had baba ganoush, we had falafel, we had tabbouleh, we had grape leaves, we had kibbeh, we had m'saka and probably a metric ton of their awesome bread. As if that was not enough, then came the mains! Shawarma, beef and chicken, and kabobs, and probably some other things I am not able to remember because I was just too full by this point. The meal was absolutely delicious. I love being able to 'graze' and enjoy many different things as part of a meal. Great service and great company made it a really special evening. read more

Lebanese Taverna is located inside the Pentagon City mall. Came here on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn't crowded. The three of us ordered the baba ghanoush, hummus trio, and the mixed kebab to share. My favorite was the baba ghanoush and it was really creamy! The hummus trio was great to try different variations: one has chicken shwarma, another has ground beef, and the third one has crumbled feta on top. We got a lot of dips so I appreciate that the breads can be refilled. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was inviting. We were very full afterwards and even got some leftovers to go. We came here this weekend to celebrate my friend's birthday, and I must say I was underwhelmed. The things that were good were great, but the things that were bad were pretty rough. Let's start with the good: the interior of the restaurant is very pretty and the tables are nicely spaced so that even when it got full towards the end of our dinner, it wasn't overwhelmingly loud or anything. We also started with the hommus trio, which was DELICIOUS! The portion was generous, all three hummus flavors were so good, and the bread it came with was incredible (fluffy, soft, great for dipping). Unfortunately, that's about where I'd say the good parts ended. I ordered the kafta kabob, which was quite disappointing. The meat was pretty well-spiced and in a nice sauce, but everything else on the plate (Roasted veggies, rice pilaf) was so bland. The veggies were also not well roasted and so were a bit mushy. For $25, the portion was good, but I didn't actually finish it all because the taste was so average. Also, I rarely want to deduct points from a restaurant for subpar service (because you never know when the server was just having a bad day or something), but it was noticeably bad here. We got seated quickly, but then it took a while for us to get waters and then we waited probably 10-15 minutes for the server to come back so we could order. And I think she only came back at that point because my friend finally flagged her down. We ended up ordering everything at once to take advantage of catching the server, and they didn't refill our waters much during the meal. The clincher came when, after we paid, we lingered for a few minutes so my friend could finish opening her birthday gifts and the server came and started collecting our water glasses. There were other empty tables, so I know they weren't waiting to seat another reservation, but we felt really rushed out. Overall, the hommus was a delight, but I wouldn't likely return for it because of everything else. If I could give this place a 2.5 stars, I probably would, but the hommus saved it. read more

Great choice for Mediterranean food in pentagon row! We ordered the mixed kabob platter and tzatziki dip to share and it was the perfect portion for the two of us! The mixed kabob platter came with chicken, lamb, and kafta. Our favorite was the lamb due to it being super tender. Next time we would just order the lamb kabob. We also enjoyed the tzatziki especially when eaten with the pita which was served warm.One thing we were slightly confused about is the pricing of the mixed kabob dish - the mixed platter is the most expensive at $32 even though it gives you a mix of less expensive meat (ie the lamb is 29, the chicken at 25 and kafta at 24)? We LOVED our visit to the Lebanese Taverna. This was my third visit to the restaurant, but it was my wife's first. Again, we thoroughly enjoyed our date night! The restaurant is quaint and tastefully decorated, and offers a unique, but comfortable ambiance. They also have a stellar patio for those who wish to dine outdoors. Whenever we explore a restaurant that is culture specific, I always try to find as many authentic items as possible, including my drink. So, I ordered a fig cocktail (can't remember the name), which had figs and whiskey. It was unique and flavorful, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife ordered a Lebanese white wine, which was crisp and delicious. We ordered a sampler plate that came with chicken kabobs and beef and lamb shawarma, along with rice and veggies. The meal was amazing, and we relished every bite. And we've mentioned several times that we want to return and try some of the other items. The staff was super friendly and engaging. Hommos Trio - This contained 3 hommos: spicy hommos with tomato and feta, garlic hommos with chicken shawarma, and their hommos special that contained ground beef and lamb. The hommos was silky, flavorful, and had a smooth texture. This was probably the highlight of the entire meal. Kibbeh - This is a beef and lamb frite with pine nuts, bulgur, and labneh. The flavors were just not my cup of tea. Taverna Platter - It came with hommos, fattoush, Lebanese rice, and lamb shawarma. The fattoush (Levantine salad) was a delicious array of vegetables; however, it was overly seasoned with dressing. I could not stomach how much dressing was on top of the salad. I'm not sure if this is the usual amount of salad dressing on Levantine salads. Lebanese food isn't quite my cup of tea, it seems! read more
