don't recommend. I paid $90 (including tip) for a gel manicure. they use a different polish, comes from a jar not a bottle (like shellac or opi). I asked why is so thick and they told me it's special, healthier for nails and more resistant. poor job on the cuticles/dead skin, didn't clean it well, i have to cut a lot it at home. the so called "resistant" polish lasted exactly 4 days (and I didn't do any laundry or dishes). I was traveling for work and was unable to go to a salon to remove it (the whole idea was to have a mani to last for 7-10 days!). so I had ugly black chipped nails for 2 weeks. shellac or opi for me last at least 2 weeks w/o any issues. this is absolutely not worth the trouble. the ladies working there were nice, but totally not worth the price...go get it anywhere else for half the price AND lasting longer. read more

Marie Nails is the BEST at gel nails and nail art. They're not nail technicians, they're ARTISTS, bitches. I go exclusively to *Harumi*, because I'm faithful like that... but also because she's always done phenomenal work. I referred everyone I know and their mom to this place. Oh yeah, I also brought my own mama here. And now she's bringing all of her friends. I'm telling you, just a year ago this place was quiet. Now it's outrageous!! You have to book an appointment. Be prepared, though, for the new conversation pieces that you'll constantly be carrying around after you leave the place. ;) You're bound to get noticed. Oh, and price-wise... it can get pricey, only because I choose to go balls out on my nails. To give you an idea, if you get Cal Gels, it can range from around $35 to $200. And yes, I've fluctuated through the full spectrum. I've heard of girls leaving with $300 nails but--BUT!!--in my defense, these suckers last for MONTHS. I first saw this cal gel nail thing on the internet and I was immediately sucked in. Pretty gel nails that won't ruin your natural ones? Sign me up! I was never blessed with good nails of my own so this seemed like a great way to make mine look pretty without hurting them the way acrylics tend to do. I found this place by typing "cal gel" into the Yelp search bar. Of course there are numerous places that do this but this one has an excellent rating AND it was across the street from work. Sold! They are open late (till 7PM) so even on weekdays you can easily pop in after work which I really appreciated. Appointments are your best bet though as they seem really busy. They are SO damn nice here. Everyone is so friendly and bubbly and chatty and they make you feel very comfortable. I had no idea what the hell I wanted but they were very patient and let me take my time choosing and even offered a little advice when I asked. Anyways, although I didn't get any super intricate designs (note to self: research a bit before coming and bring pictures!) my nails came out beautiful and perfect. I've heard cal gel lasts awhile so I'm hoping I can keep these babies for at least a couple of weeks. I'm pretty much hooked now though. I've got sparkly pretty nails that everyone has complimented and shelling out the $45 they cost feels completely worth it (especially if they last longer then a traditional manicure). You will not be disappointed if you want the cal gel nails. COME HERE. This place was second on our stop for a day of pampering after losing our beloved dog Buddy. My daughter and I were having a day of closure and it just seemed as if everything was working out right after having a reeeally sucky week the week before. Marie Nails is set up like a little bungalow from the Charlie Chaplin, early Hollywood days. You can almost picture black and white tiles in the kitchen and tuquoise in the bathroom with ladies with boofant hair styles soaking their hands in soapy dishes from days gone by. Marie's is our favorite mother daughter place to have a Mani/ Pedi Spa time together. They have a little back room with only two very strong massage chairs so it's nice to know it will be your own private little room. And lately it seems as if every chair I sit on is run on a couple of very weak double AA batteries but these chairs still feel as if they are brand new~! The girls seem to really care about their work. We were luckly to slip into two cancellatrions. Though they did seem to be in a slight rush we didn't care. My daughter had to work later and I had planned an unopptune LA buying trip for the retail end of the spa. It was kind of nice to have massages and pampering going on at every limb knowing I'd be having to be trudging the streets of LA soon. But for then and there It was nice to know that in that little Bungalow they provided a little place in the world for my daughter and me to help it go away for just a littlle while.... while we re-grouped and found new strength to face our daily schedules again. read more

My friend has been going to Marie Nails in K-town for about a year now and has always raved about it. Her nails always looked amazing and grew so fast but I was reluctant to go because of the price. At the salon I usually go to I can get a gel mani and regular pedi for about $45. At Marie Nails, you can get a one color gel for the same price MINUS the pedi. Finally I cracked and decided to go. Let's just say I LOVE the quality and the customer service at this Place, both 3rd and Melrose locations. The type of gel they use is amazing too, it's called CalGel, a longer last gel that actually leave your nails STRONGER, not weak and flimsy. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is because on Dec 1st, they're raising their prices $10! It's going to go from $40 for a regular gel mani to $50. If you want a design then it's even more. They say it because of the product price increase. I don't see how the price of the product could possibly go up that much. $10 increase is very extreme. Marie has been my go to nail salon for the last 3 years, starting in NYC and carrying over with my move to LA. That being said, there are some distinct differences in the service I've received in each city. The LA operation is a bit more factory-like and impersonal when compared with NYC, especially since Sayo has been on maternity. My last visit, I was made to wait 40 minutes before my manicure started because all the technicians were busy. I think it's unreasonable that they didn't let me know about foreseeable delays in advance- I could have run an errand or two? Further, I had my hands get passed between FOUR DIFFERENT TECHNICIANS during my single manicure. Each one was confused about what I wanted, what color I was choosing, and took their own stab at my intended nail shape. This led to a sub par manicure that look longer than any other manicure I've had at their salon. Overall, think Marie offers a great alternative to the usual manicure with their cal and bio gel offerings, but they need to get a handle on their service if they want to keep customers. read more

I hate to write a bad during covid but have received a terrible manicure. I have religiously gone to Marie nails for 5 years in NYC. There covid practices are great and safe however the quality of the manicure is the worst I've ever received. After spending $80 on Matte solid within 2 days the gel had changed colors to a horrible grey black. Even with me cleaning them and 4 days letter an entire nail came off without me even touching it. Hands down to one of the best nail salons I have been to in LA. I wanted to get my nails done for my wedding and I have always been a fan of Japanese 3D nail art. I was very fortunate to have made an appointment considering how short notice I had when I called in; they are always booked. I showed them a picture of the style I wanted and they replicated it the way I wanted. Because of the intricate style I had chosen, my nail artist took 3 hours creating her work of art (lace, pearls and forming individual petals on each flower). They used a type of nail polish called cal gel which is more durable than lacquer nail polish but more delicate than acrylic which allows your nails to breathe. Also, cal gel is a more flexible formula than acrylic or lacquer nail polish when dented, pops back to its original form. I was looking for places that does nail art designs and stumbled on this place on yelp. Do not go here without an appointment (my first mistake). I came here on a Friday at around 4 pm and it was packed. I think because they have only 4/5 people working there and it's close to Cedar Sinai. I asked the receptionist if there is an availability and they said they were already booked. I lucked out because they had an opening on Saturday at 3 pm. Be prepared to tell them what you want. I wanted to get a pedicure and manicure. If you guys want full designs, you can't get both unless they have time. Note that they have only 2 pedicure stations; if the pedicure stations are booked, then your best bet is the manicure. At first, I told them I wanted strawberries on each of my toe nails and just plain polish on my fingernails; so they said I can do both. When I came on Saturday, I changed my mind about the fingernails and wanted French Tips with a hello kitty design (See picture). At first they were reluctant and told me that it would take awhile to do a hello kitty design and it'll run longer than my scheduled appointment. I guess they were thinking that I wanted the hello kitty design on each nail; but I told them I just wanted one nail and it wasn't elaborate. I showed them the youtube video which shows what I wanted and they obliged! (YIPPEE!) She did a great job and personally when I get my nails done I don't like to talk too much, which she didn't push either. definitely make appointments ahead of time. I was lucky to get a walk-in. I've been very hesitant to write this review because I loved the Marie Nails that used to be in Koreatown. This was my first time at this location and I had a very bad experience. So the girl that did my nails was very sweet but unfortunately didn't speak any English. And for the intricate designs that they do there it was very difficult to communicate with her. The other nail technicians never stepped in or tried to help or explain what I wanted to do. So I didn't end up getting the design that I had in mind, which was ok. It was pretty and I was happy. But one day later the topcoat started to peel on a few of my nails and the design started to fade away. As they guarantee their nails I called them and they fit me in at a late appointment 2 days later. They apologized and at this appointment two girls worked on me, and all they did was put on 2 to 3 more topcoats, topcoat after topcoat to try and salvage the design . I told him I didn't think they should put too many because it will make the gel peel but they reassured some it was fine. As predicted the next day my gel started to lift because of the additional top coats. So I called them and the girl at the front told me that they had to first see if it was their fault that this happened and they would charge me if it was. I was a appalled ! I told her forget it and I would go somewhere else. The next day a manager called me and told me that they would try to fit me in either a few days later or at some very inconvenient times. She said yes too many top coats will make it peel. But I couldn't make any times work and I could not walk around with my nails like this so I told her I had to go to somewhere to get them off and get new nails done. I told her that for the amount I spent and my nails lasting less than 1 week I should at least get some credit for my nail next nail appointment. Of course she said they don't usually do that and that she would speak to the manager and get back to me and I never heard back from them. I get they are very busy and don't need a lot of business but they have bad customer service. I ended paying again to get my nails done somewhere else on 3rd. I was visiting Los Angeles and in pedi dire straits. I actually used Yelp to find a nail shop nearby. A tiny shop in a neighborhood full of "big things", Marie was a sweet find. I expected insane pricing because of the area, but the price range was fair and even comparable to home in Sacramento. The staff was friendly and I was quickly accommodated - despite having no appointment. The shop was intimate and clean and the receptionist was a nice touch. I was offered water - something I definitely needed on that hot day - and within minutes, I was seated for my pedi. I've generally come to expect the standard shop with luxury massaging spa chairs and tubs that bubble. Marie didn't have that. I sat on a platform with comfy pillows and a tub of warm water. I thought I would dislike it, but it was actually nice. Afterwards, my tired toes looked and felt like new. If I'm ever in the area again and in need of a mani or pedi, I'll definitely make my way back there. read more

How to write a review about a place that at some point I would have given 5 stars to but now just cannot...? i used to LOYALLY get my nails done here for almost two years and i knew almost everyone who worked there and recommended them to all my friends because they really do a GREAT job. Then, after I went out of town and happened to get my gel nails done in Miami, Marie nails decided to charge me 20 dollars to remove the gel because they said it was their policy. That's right, gel from any other salon, 20 dollar removal fee. Seriously.. I know you guys are Japanese but get over yourselves. Do you know how many salons in LA do gel now? There is no reason this policy should exist, its outdated. I get it, you want to discourage disloyalty but you don't realize how much you are alienating customers who travel. This isn't New York and there is no Sakura to compete with so until you get rid of this ridiculous policy I refuse to come back... 45 dollars is fine but add 20 plus a design and tip and im paying nearly 80 plus dollars for a manicure? This review is overdue. I am not sure what the hype is about this place. Yes, the girls are very friendly, giggly, sweet, and creative but I care more about the quality of the work and how my nails looked after I left. Things that bothered me about this place 1. I get in and the place REEKS like crazy bad for you chemicals. There is that nasty acetone/acycrillic smell and there is absolutely no ventilation going on in that small place. Even worse they keep the door shut the whole day so there is absolutely no fresh air circulating. I am sure the customers get used to it after awhile but let me tell you.. that crap is bad for you and they need to put ventilation in there because I think its a huge health hazard not to have it and for clients to breathing in fumes during their manicure. I walked in and immediately requested that the front door be opened to circulate the place. 2. I got their world famous gels. My nails looked like crap... why you ask? oh because after the manicurist is done she says to me "oh you have a lot of cuticles.. did you want them cut?" me: yes, please I thought it came with it since that's what makes a manicure look good. Manicurist: sorry I needed to cut them before we started... next time we will do cuticles. Basically, my expensive gel manicure looked like crap cuz I had gnarly cuticles she should have cut and my manicure only lasted one week. The gels started popping off after a week. Arent they supposed to last like three? I won't be back. The parking is a head ache, the place smells like chemicals and fumes and is not properly ventilated and my expensive gel manicure popped off after a week. Masomi is great, but it was Harumi's disgusting attitude toward me that made me give them such low marks. She literally said "Arigato!" when Masomi assigned me to someone else, because she didn't want to do my nails. And why, you ask, was she not in the mood of doing my nails? Because I would ask her to put extra polymer around the nail bed, nearest to the cuticle, so that lifting didn't occur so quickly. I have been a loyal client for 2 1/2 yrs. I am one of those people who knew practically everyone in there. But today was the last draw, not only do my nails look bad, but the woman who runs the place is so rude! I can't give them business anymore. When I complained to the manicurist (who took 1 1/2 hrs just doing a set of gels) Her and my regular manicurist completely backed her up. I'm sorry, but isn't the customer always right? I always bring my 3 1/2 yr old and he is really well behaved (people come up to me in beauty shops and say i can't believe how good he is!). She then told me I can't bring him anymore. "Kids aren't allowed" at that point I was so mad! Then the manicurist said I was tired. I told her I need to leave! Also, she did a horrible job today, like I said 1 1/2 hrs to do just a set of gels, then another 40 min to do art (2 nails had stickers, one nail had stones and only one nail truely had art and it looks like my toddler did it.) I was 10 min late today I'll admit that, they acted like I was 45 min late, I usually take 1 1/2 hrs to do full set of gels w/ nail art, so even if I was late, she still took an extra 40 min with me! So it wasn't my fault they are hiring people who aren't qualified!!! If u do go, make sure you get someone that's been there for a while, otherwise like me, u will spend $62 on crap nails!!! I will admit they usually do a great job except today. that's why they got one star. But their attitude needs to go! I have sent and given out their number so many times. i will make sure to tell people to lose their number. Really good place to get cal gel nails and nail art. These people certainly know what they are doing...... And they do it for a very affordable price. Not an upscale place so you won't get any champagne or strawberries and the walls could use some touch up paint. They might also try to do a good scrub down of the floors and chairs. Not a dirty place, but just not luxurious. But I overlooked all of this and my nails are fabulous! Seriously - my nails look really good and I'm not a person who gets my nails done very often. I like things in list form..so here it goes: Pros - Friendly staff, every manicurist I've had has been just delightful. - The people answering the phone are very nice and helpful. - They can do some pretty nifty designs, and are pretty good at creating whatever custom design you have in mind. - I've always had very thorough manicures here with cuticles, buffing, shaping, etc. - They have organic gel polishes, so that's neat. Cons - There is a $2 charge per nail (read: $20 total) just to remove gel polish that didn't come from them. I understand the idea of encouraging customer loyalty, but I had gel polish on the first time I ever went to see them, so was basically punished for trying to SWITCH to them. I feel like that fee (although pretty silly to begin with) should at least be waived for first-timers. -There is a $50 minimum charge for credit cards, so bring cash!! I didn't see this posted anywhere obvious. - It's a little pricier than most places, $42 I think for a standard manicure? But it's in the heart of Beverly Hills, so that's to be expected. - Manicures don't last quite as long as other places I've been to, they start lifting after about 2 weeks. read more
