I've been a loyal client at Marie Nails in Los Angeles for over 10 years. My long‑time technician has always been exceptional, and a recent visiting tech from Japan was also fantastic. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was the opposite experience and warrants a poor review. The pedicure started with an attempt to drill my cuticles, which caused burning to the point that I had to ask the technician, "Eve," to stop twice. I get pedicures biweekly and have never had this issue before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was very sweet as a person, but I do not recommend her for nail services.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For my manicure, the technician (whose name I only saw as "Isamar" on Venmo, and who never introduced herself) mishandled my nail shape. I came in with one broken nail and clearly requested that all nails be cut square. She suggested "rounding them off," which in past visits has meant softly smoothing the corners of a squared nail. Instead, my nails were cut extremely short and rounded so much that they looked like a child's bitten nails. In every high‑end salon I've visited--including Marie Nails in the past--technicians shape one nail, check in, and then proceed only after confirming the length and shape. They also ask before polishing, "Is everything okay?" None of these quality‑control steps happened. No one checked in with me at any point, even as it became clear that I was unhappy. What is typically a relaxing experience where I can almost fall asleep became stressful and headache‑inducing. This is especially disappointing given how much I've invested here over the years: consistent 30% tips, visits costing over $200, and many clients I've referred to the salon. I identified myself, and her first response was, "Oh, I heard what happened." Her response was simply, "We want you to come back again. We are sorry and I'll check in with the techs. We will see what we can do." I have been going here for 15 years, both L.A and NY, and as of late the quality has dwindled. My nails chipped the first week which is unheard of. This second week they are broken. They are extremely weak because she filled them down like never before. She didn't know the usual protocol. I am very disappointed in how this salon handled things. I came in last Wednesday and by Saturday my first nail had chipped. Today is Monday and I've now had damage to ALL but 4 nails. Even though the 4 nails still appear to be ok, I am EASILY able to peel back the gel layer. I came here in preparation for a wedding and I am SO UPSET that they were messed up before the ceremony even started. I called Marie nails today to discuss a full refund but after going back and forth all day with them the best they offered was a 50% refund. I spoke with Lisa who was communicative throughout the whole process and she was as helpful as she could be. Runa did my nails. I liked the design she did. But her nails did not last on me. This was a very bad experience and I know that there are other Japanese nail salons that offer better services for better prices. I went here once as I was in the area and needed my nails done badly. The seating arrangement was interesting as instead of being in a traditional chair for a pedicure I was seated on a bench. There's sinks below the bench for your feet. It worked out OK, but not as comfortable as a traditional chair. It was a very basic pedicure without any hiccups. I just leave the lower part out, like a reverse French manicure. I called to let them know I was 10 minutes late. She charged me $25 for filing my nails. Excellent Gel Manicure and Deluxe Pedicure My first time here two weeks ago. I got a gel removal and gel manicure; and regular pedicure. They took care in removing my old gel manicure and was very gentle with my cuticles. The nail shaping looks awesome and my nails look perfect even after two weeks. The deluxe pedicure includes a 10 min foot massage. My tech had very strong hands. Massage felt great! Pedicure still looking great also. Total cost for deluxe pedicure and gel manicure (1 color with glitter) was $93. Love it and will be back. read more

don't recommend. I paid $90 (including tip) for a gel manicure. they use a different polish, comes from a jar not a bottle (like shellac or opi). I asked why is so thick and they told me it's special, healthier for nails and more resistant. poor job on the cuticles/dead skin, didn't clean it well, i have to cut a lot it at home. the so called "resistant" polish lasted exactly 4 days (and I didn't do any laundry or dishes). I was traveling for work and was unable to go to a salon to remove it (the whole idea was to have a mani to last for 7-10 days!). so I had ugly black chipped nails for 2 weeks. shellac or opi for me last at least 2 weeks w/o any issues. this is absolutely not worth the trouble. the ladies working there were nice, but totally not worth the price...go get it anywhere else for half the price AND lasting longer. read more
