Mainly it's because of my hair stylist, Yelena. I've been following her for over 15 years because she's that good. DON'T GO! Let's start by saying I used to go there for over 5y, in the last couple of years my colorist Giancarlo, has done some big mistakes that have cost me ~400$ to fix. The problem is that they think they are gods and the most coolest people and so you pay for the ambience more than technique. This time, yes I left fast but I had dried most of my hair so he could see I looked like a bright yellow chicken but yet I was told you look great [[HIGHLIGHT]]the Monday I called and asked to be seen for fixing my color and while I was tole they will call me back no one called back I called again Tuesday and Wednesday and while no one confirmed my appointment was randomly scheduled for a Saturday at a time he could do only a gloss and I was even given an attitude that he is busy and I should be thankful[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] it wasn't a matter of a gloss, the highlights were bad I looked like a striped zebra and bright yellow chicken at the same time given front was thick and extra yellow they had to do darker highlights and touch-up the roots to fix it plus a gloss so it took another 3h and 350$ to fix. New York is big there are plenty of professionals and attitude and owning mistakes matters and goes a long way. Overpriced and not worth it. I wouldn't definitely go!! read more

I told him what I wanted (a good shaping and styling) and showed him some pics. He went at it! I love how it turned out. I see a lot of comments about the price. This is my first foray into a fancy hair salon (where I'm not a hair model) and boy, was it quite the well-oiled machine! There were three receptionists staffing the front desk, designated porter that takes you to put on a robe, and timing was just perfect. I also only have high praise for my hairstylist Liana Le. I've shown the same hair inspiration picture to three stylists and Liana has taken me closest to that look, while still flattering my face shape and hair type. I asked for a modern shag, showing her pictures of what I wanted and pictures of what I didn't want. She was detail-oriented in hair cut and gave me styling tips. The other thing I liked about Liana was that she was just chatty enough - honestly I find it a chore to carry on a conversation during a haircut, and perhaps Liana was astute enough to just interject at the right times. This would be the only salon I'd go to for color because I trust the color goddess Susana Carranza. I've gone from covering grays to platinum which I LOVED. It was a long process because my asian hair has been colored over so many times. Susana is lovely, she has dealt w my color issues for years including time(S) when I would do my own roots and screw up because I was impatient and lazy. She just laughs when I'd come to see her with mistakes like hot roots and fixes it so I can look "normalish". If you're looking for awesome natural or not so natural color, go see her because she will give you the color you want because you're worth it! read more

This is actually a review for the discounted haircuts for models that work with apprentices. Foster cut my hair. I'm not sure of the educator's name. I just wanted to say it was a notably positive experience among all my model experiences (which are many). Foster really listened to and respected everything about what I wanted, and started off my haircut with, as the educator said, an excellent basic shape. The educator felt the need to finish the haircut in back (it was a pixie), but that was to be expected for an apprentice cut, and it's great when the educator actually sits and makes sure the model leaves looking as good as possible. I've probably never had the back of my hair cut so properly, in that it is both extremely tight in on the bottom to give me plenty of grow out time and very smoothly graduated up to the length on the top. I was also offered coffee/tea/water at the beginning of my cut, which is always a nice touch when I encounter it. The atmosphere among the stylists was warm and playful -- that always communicates to me that the salon is a nice place to work and people aren't overly stressed. Upon introduction, he examined my hair and face shape to make recommendations catered specifically to what would suit me. Wowza- a hair professional who does exactly that had been my lifelong search. True test of a good haircut comes days and weeks after a salon visit. It should NOT go back to drab after you wash out the blow out. My hair has never looked or felt this good. He fixed my hair having had the worst color I have ever experienced at another salon downtown a few days before. It was awful! He put me at ease and set about working his magic. So, I was a hair model tonight - and I want to say, the receptionist was extremely rude, and dismissive, she needs to go. Very unprofessional, and unpleasant, she's the first face you see as you enter and she barely welcomes you. Just because we are "hair models", does NOT mean we should not be extended that simple courtesy. Now, my hair is super healthy, straight and long - easy to cut and style. The stylist who took care of me was very sweet and was there to ensure I was happy - thankfully. It was AGREED I could get what I wanted and not a specific cut (such as a bob or pixie cut or shag). Simple long layers and face framing - that's all. Well, at one point the director marched over and was about to use thinning shears on my fine locks!! I stood my ground - and didn't let him, and he chimed in "this a class, bla bla bla", "I know what I am doing"....Nope. It's MY hair--not going to happen. I ended up keeping my hair (which is how it SHOULD be) - rather than have 90% of it thinned out! Yes, we are hair models--but does not mean we are guinea pigs, if you want your students to practice with their creativity--use your "mannequins"! The ad by the way was for "long Layers"!! Honor your ads!! Be honest with all hair models. And by all means, hire a pleasant front desk person. They are the very first face people see and interact with. I want to talk about my experience working first desk at Marie Robinson salon. I was maybe 18 or 19 when I started, I came from a lower Socio-economic background. I just wanted a job to help my mom pay rent. While employed at Marie Robinson, Abel, who managed the entire salon, would curse at the women at the front desk. He would yell at us & berate us. He told me I "looked poor" too many times. Again, I was fresh into adulthood working jobs that are just entry-level. But when I look back on my experience there, I am horrified. No other boss or manager I had since treated me that way. I remember once he came into the salon with a box of receipt paper (probably weighs like 10 pounds) and literally threw it at the front desk. Which was right in front of our faces. I remember flinching. Many of the girls cried, quit obviously. Including eventually me. I asked the accountant, who worked closely with Abel to hold a meeting with him & reception so we can talk about our experience. Abel would hear none of it. He blamed us. I quit that day, during that conversation. I'm leaving this review for the people who go to this salon. You all pay so much money to have the experts at Marie Salon make you beautiful. You all walk away feeling so good! That was not the experience of reception. Daily. And you should consider if the treatment of the lowest employees at a place matter to you. And to future, young receptionist at Marie Robinson, deman your respect. And if it's still not given, go where you are respected. Trust me there are plenty of warm & welcoming places to work that won't leave you traumatized. read more

Reception has the most uninterested and lazy workers, they have an attitude as if they are doing you a favor by making an appointment and taking your money. My hair has been through A LOT over the past few years (from dark to light...and back to light again). Needless to say, it's quite frail. Additionally, because I had gone to different stylists over the years, the color was choppy, uneven, and, well, sloppy. When it was time to have my roots touched up a few weeks ago, I wanted to be able to spend all of the money to save my hair, but due to a recent aggressively painful root canal bill, I had to be economical. MRS happens to be in the building I work in, so I checked Salon Apprentice to see if they needed any color models. Luckily, I was able to schedule an appointment within a matter of a few days. I was nervous before the class. I had been a color model for a high-end salon before, and the experience was rather "meh." I didn't get the color I wanted and it didn't really feel like customer satisfaction mattered if you were a model. This was not true of MRS. Not only was my colorist, Tatiana, incredibly attentive, careful, thorough, and talented, but also, Marie herself (who is SO WONDERFUL), was also very present during the process to make sure I was happy with the color, etc. The end product was just amazing and I could not be happier. I highly highly recommend this salon, whether you're interested in being a model or not. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! SO OVERPRICED AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I came here for a platinum look. I was pretty blonde to begin with so I didn't think it would be too much of an ask. They ended up charging me over $1,200 and I was there for 7 hours. They didn't tell me ahead of time how much it would be OR the time. They also made me pay before I even saw the finished look. The color ended up not being even close to what I wanted. It was yellow and the front pieces had burned off. I had to go get it fixed at a different salon and they didn't offer me any type of refund. Not only that, but my favorite shirt that I wore there has bleach stains all over it and is ruined. It was horrendously overpriced and they should be embarassed to treat me like that. $1200 for yellow hair. This place should be shut down. read more

My friend recommended her to me and I was reluctant at first bc I usually don't feel comfortable in snooty high end salons. But Maggie makes me feel very comfortable. Yes, she is beautiful and hip - but also very down to earth and kind. The best colorist I've been to in NYC. I also feel this way about the whole space. I felt comfortable coming during covid because the space is very large and clean. I've never had a problem with the front desk like others here - but maybe that is because I don't expect to be waited on like royalty by a servant??!! Love the salon and even more, love Carlina, the best colorist I've been to in 20 years. I have dark dark brown, almost black hair and most colorists in the past would use bleach and then apply gloss, which would damage my hair. Not Carlina- she managed to give me light brown highlights without bleach that grows out looking 100% natural (eg I don't need to go every 5 weeks anymore to do my roots). She uses a foil method and takes tiny strands of hair so everything blends so well. She's amazing, my hair is so much healthier and the color compliments my skin tone really well. I've received a ton of compliments The vibe of the salon is great as well. Mid century modern decor with tall ceilings and really nice staff. Super comfy hair washing station chairs that have motorized recline and leg rests. read more

Worst hair salon in NYC with a name! This salon likes to brag about how cool it is, but in reality, this salon don't deserve spending money and time. Here is why. Bad service starts at the reception, where the receptionists are not interested in their clients and their needs. When you call them to make an appointment, they won't be able to provide you with any options with times, until you ask them about it a couple of times. This is their job to give their clients all possible time combinations that will fit their schedule and make it with respect and pleasure. When clients visit this salon, the receptionist won't bother standing up from their chairs to give you any needed forms to fill up - you will need to come close to them and stretch your hands through other clients to take the forms, even if the distance requirements are 6 ft between people. Overall, the receptionists are very lazy, disrespectful, and are not interested in doing their job properly. Also, they don't know how to pull up the record of the clients visit and see, what kind of procedures were ordered and who was performing them - they are trying to shift this responsibility on their clients and consequently ask clients this information. After winning this struggle with bad reception service and making appointment with the most qualified colorist, which was suggested by the reception, you are heading into a trap of the worst coloring service imaginable. If you love your hair, you treat it with care and want hair specialists to treat your hair as yourself, then this salon is not the right place for you. Specialists, who work here, will pull out your hair with a hair brush at high speed and won't be bothered, if it hurts you or your hair. Specialists here hate themselves and don't respect themselves so much that they don't care about other people, their hair, and how to make a good service to their clients. Moreover, their hair wash stations are hygienic disaster. Once again, if you care about your hair and you use high-quality hair products, this salon is not appropriate at all. Salon employees were spotted of using one single brush for hair during hair wash process for all their clients that were coming to their washing stations one after another. This brush was not cleaned even once between clients! Hair washing specialists use such approach, when they see that the clients don't pay attention to this and do this behind their backs. If you look at their wash basins, you will see how dirty they are with a lot of hairs from previous clients. Hair wash specialists don't even bother cleaning washbasins after each client. This is unacceptable and this is against all hygienic laws! After pointing out this misconduct to a hair specialist, nothing changed - the specialist tried to fake cleaning the wash basin, but there still were lots of foreign hair. This is total disrespect towards clients and their hair! This is the first such dirty experience in "high-end" hair salons in NYC! At the end of the coloring process, there was still small hope that the color would be worth all mentioned disastrous experience. However, when the hair was dried after the coloring, big mistake of hair specialist became visible. The hair specialist was presented as one of the best in salons, but the mistake was a really entry-level, which could be done by people, who have never did coloring before. When this mistake was pointed out to the specialist, she didn't even say sorry for this - she said that this is a normal situation in her work. Meaning, this person doesn't really know, how high-quality coloring look like. We expressed our dissatisfaction of the result and the process to the hair specialist, and went to reception to pay for the visit. However, the hair salon owner appeared, who saw the mistake and realized, how her employee fucked up. She became very afraid that her reputation is at stake, but instead of saying sorry for such terrible experience and poor job of her "top-notch" specialist, she started attacking us and act passive-aggressively. She really tried to find at least something to blame us for the poor job of her specialist. The owner didn't took any responsibility for the terrible job of the specialist and ran away, after we shown the owner, why her specialist fucked up so much and why we are so displeased. It seems that her reputation is a big empty bubble that really popped, when the reality of their service level and work quality came out. Overall, this salon is a large conveyor with loud music and lots of people. There is no personal approach to every client or at least respectful and professional approach. Specialists here won't treat your hair as yourself and won't give them much respect. This salon doesn't worth people's time and money, and people who work here don't deserve to work with good hair. I wish that this salon would either change its attitude and approach towards clients or leave this market forever. read more

I am beyond picky about my hair, my hair color, and people who touch my hair. To the point I've done my own color and cuts for years, with a decent amount of success. Until I f*cked it up a few weeks ago, and did my own brassy, splotchy, uneven highlights, which I painted on top of my black base color. OOPS. JESSIE TO THE RESCUE. Seriously, girl should wear a cape because she swooped into my life like a superhero. Super-hair-o? After a Yelp-fest one day, I randomly called Marie Robinson salon asking to come in for a consult with anyone who was available. Anyone who could tell me that everything was going to be ok, and that they could fix me and maybe turn me into one of those mermaid-wave, beach blonde Instagram girls. Yeah, I set my hopes THAT high. Fast forward only 25 minutes and I was sitting with Jessie, who walked me through her visions and suggestions for tackling my DIY disaster. The very next day, she worked her MAGIC. She spent nearly 6 hours painting and foiling and checking and washing and toning and I now have the golden blonde hair of my dreams, which looks awesome with my skin tone. (PSA: Finding the right blonde if you ain't one is NOT easy). Jessie is not only talented but SO cool and sweet, and she would never sacrifice the integrity of her clients' hair while coloring. Mine was brittle and dry AF, but her meticulous attention to detail prevented almost all breakage in this grueling 6-hour process. And they don't even use Olaplex or any other bond builder here, which I found a little scary at first but everything turned out okay. I cannot wait to go back in June for my touch-up and I'm SO happy I found a colorist I love. No better feeling. read more

I went to this place several times and left with great color and cuts. I don't know what happened this last time but both the color and cut were disastrous. The color looked like someone put a bowl on top of my head and colored below it. The cut speaks for itself. Uneven and choppy when I wanted just a blunt cut. I went back to get it fixed not once, but twice. Whatever was done to my hair was apparently hard to undo because it still wasn't right even after two more visits. At the end of my second fixing appointment, they had the audacity to try and charge me another $300 on top of the $300 I paid originally. Terrible experience all around. read more
