This shop is beautiful! They have a tea room and chocolate shop, we were there for the latter. When we walked in, a staff member was up front but didn't acknowledge us. It felt like we weren't welcome. We went ahead and looked around. When we started picking out chocolate to buy (everyone in our group purchased something), she started being more cordial. I don't know what's up with that. We were dressed appropriately (we had broadway tickets later that day and this was a stop we made while waiting). I got the custom box with nine pieces. The lady behind that counter was very nice at least. I love that they have this option because I prefer to pick my own flavors. The chocolate quality was good and the flavors were on point. The dulce de leche, passion fruit, and rum flavor were my favorite. You also get a cute booklet as reference to the flavors as each one is decorated differently. It's pricey, but worth it. No notes on the merchandise, just wasn't a fan of the customer service. Would have given 5 stars basing off the chocolate but the snobby behavior took away from the experience. read more

Mariebelle has an adorable cafe right behind their chocolate shop in Soho. It's a small, cozy space and can get quite busy especially on weekends. We went last week on a weekday, so there were plenty of tables available. The decor is so pretty, if Disneyland had a chocolate cafe, this is what it would look like. I came here with a visitor from out of town and she loved it, too. They have so many delicious-looking drinks and desserts on their menu, so it was hard to choose. I decided on the Belle Classic, where you can choose any large drink and 2 madeleines or macarons for $15+. I ordered the earl grey tea and the macarons of the day were chocolate and caramel. I wasn't aware that you couldn't choose the macarons, but both were delicious so I was fine with the selection. Our server was outstanding as well. They gave us samples of the hot chocolate and iced chocolate to try. Surprisingly, we both liked the iced chocolate more, even though I generally prefer hot drinks. Popped in with one of my favorite people looking for chocolate mousse! This place is super cute. Very upscale. There's a shop part and then a sit down part. The desserts are the most adorable thing! Derive was quick and effective. While we went for chocolate mousse, I ended up getting the rose gelato. Delicious!! Not too floral, not too sweet. Such a delicate balance with amazing texture. If it weren't for some friends, I wouldn't have known there's a little cafe in the back of the coffee shop :) For some reason, we thought we had to make reservations but on a Sunday afternoon it was pretty empty. Regardless if a bigger party came in, reservations would definitely be needed. I got a dark iced hot chocolate and it was THICKK. It was hard for me to drink most of it, but the chocolate taste was deep and rich. I was here at this gorgeous-looking chocolatier very recently for a chocolate walking tour with Shorewalkers, along with Läderach, Lint (as it was on the way,) Li-Lac, and 'Royce. There were a lot of people here checking out the very chocolates, going to the Cacao Bar in back, or doing what I was doing: ordering a hot chocolate from the front. The front area is essentially an abridged version of said sit-down spot in back, where you can get your chocolate to go. The prices are $8 for a small (4 oz) or $12 for a large (8 oz,) which at first glance seems crazy expensive compared to most hot chocolates, but there is a catch compared to other chocolate places. This is because the hot chocolate, unlike most American places, is made with pure chocolate rather than cacao powder, so it contains much more chocolate. Unfortunately, the front only has a couple of chocolate choices compared to the back. There is white chocolate (nope,) 38% milk chocolate with hazelnut, 62% dark chocolate (which is presumably their Aztec,) and 62% spiced dark chocolate with chipotle, ancho chili, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I ordered a large and asked the friendly guy if I could get a mix of dark and milk, which apparently isn't typically allowed, but he said it was fine, which was appreciated. He asked whether it should be half-and-half, and I was okay with that. A few moments later, I got my hot chocolate, which was thick and piping hot. The milk chocolate was slightly sweet with a hint of hazelnut, while the dark chocolate was slightly bitter. This made it a pleasant mixture, and I think I would have had difficulty drinking the large milk chocolate in particular, as it would have gotten too sweet. I also tried a bit of the spicy chocolate, which was unique with a slight burn that grows over time, and I'm not sure if I would want a large portion of it. I could complain about the price point, as the hot chocolate was $12 + tax, but this was seriously high quality, with the only similar comparison being the NYC location of Chocolat Michel Cluizel, which has been closed for a while. I'll go back to this location or to the others closer to where I live and try something else next time I'm in the mood for fancy chocolate. Absolutely delicious chocolates. Dark, rich, creamy. Fun stencils. My lovely spouse spent a week in Manhattan. I stayed home in California. Had to babysit our three Labrador retrievers. No availability from my house sitter and one of my dogs has been a failure at two boarding facilities. I asked for no souvenirs from NYC. But the morning after her return she gifted me this box of assorted ganaches. I'm savoring them. After a week I've eaten just 4 out of 16 because I don't want to end the pleasure. Randomly stumbled on this cute chocolate shop because of the sign outside! I was getting hangry and needed sugar fast and I was hypnotized by the frozen ice chocolate ad. I got the dark chocolate, however when I was given my order it was literally just chocolate in the glass cup. Just very boring and unappetizing. I felt like i was bamboozled. I was looking for a spot to have afternoon tea with a friend who was visiting the city. I didn't want to spend $70+ per person on a full afternoon tea, as we had early dinner plans. MarieBelle has a tea sandwiches platter as well as a 3 scones platter, where if you order them together, you kind of get a baby afternoon tea experience. There's also the added bonus of the fact that they have a bunch of frozen hot chocolate drinks. We arrived a little bit early for our reservation (via OpenTable) and was seated with no issues. Since it was a rainy Wednesday afternoon, we had the place almost to ourselves. Our waiter was fantastic, and started us both off with a tiny sample of their hot chocolate. It was really good. I ended up also trying a sample of the same one frozen and it was quite good too. I think I liked the frozen one the best. The tea sandwich platter comes 2 per sandwich, with a total of 5 different sandwiches. Our waiter offered to plate them separately, so we'd each have our own plates. I really enjoyed the sandwiches. The scones were also so good - served warm and with clotted cream and 2 kinds of jams. We had a 2pm show to get to on Broadway, but we managed to get in/out within an hour. This review is for the Bucketlisters wine pairing event. We purchased tickets to the wine pairing event MarieBelle was having with Bucketlisters - $100 for two people. The event page says the event is 4pm-6pm. It does not mention time slots or that you can show up at any time. We showed up promptly at 4pm. The tiny dining room was filled up with people who were not doing the wine tasting event but just walk ins who wanted to have food/hot chocolate. Other guests for the event showed up at the same time. The server said that we would have to wait for a table to open up. He said that the event "doesn't start at 4pm, it starts any time between 4pm-6pm" which was not what the event page says (see attached event page screenshot) and honestly just seemed like an excuse. I also want to note 3 weeks before the event I called MarieBelle up and asked if I needed to reserve a table for the event (as the screenshot says to do this) and I was assured I didn't need to reserve a table and could just show up. The staff was not really taking note of who showed up first, but luckily the other guests here for the event were all kind enough to keep track ourselves (which we shouldn't have to do). The first guests did not enter the dining room for the wine pairing until about 4:30pm. My friend and I were not seated until 4:45pm for the wine pairing with groups after us still waiting for a seat. Staff handed out samples of hot chocolate to try and make up for the poor experience with waiting. The wine pairing itself was good. The wines selected, the chocolates, the cheese and fruit were all enjoyable. But the mood had already been soured by the poor time management of this event. In total, it was only about 45 minutes to go through the tasting. We waited to get in the same amount of time as the tasting itself. This is the second Bucketlisters event I've been to that has been poorly managed and I won't go to another. If MarieBelle knows that wine pairings are starting at 4pm, why would you seat other parties close to 4pm without giving them a time limit to be finished by 4pm? It just seems greedy and shows a lack of regard for those who have booked the event in advance. Gratuity is not included with your event reservation and they make sure to note that before you leave. There's one super tiny bathroom available for use in the restaurant if needed. I don't think I'd come back to MarieBelle even though the food and chocolates were good because of the lack of customer service shown with this event. read more

The bad: My friend and I had tickets for an event by NY BucketListers that was advertised as taking place from 4-6pm. We waiting till 4:45 to be seated. I'm not sure if the issue was in MarieBelle, BucketListers or both but it was disorganized and the cafe staff seemed frustrated. They didn't have a good system of seating people once tables opened up. They were going to seat my friend and I ahead of another party that had been waiting for over an hour for their table for the same event until we asked them to seat them first because they were waiting longer. Service was excellent - attentive and made us feel like we could stay and chat for as long as we wanted to. What an amazing treat! I have done high tea in London and in other places in the US and this is one of the top three experiences. Our server has been at this location for over 14 years and is there to please and serve you. We started with a shot of hot chocolate followed by a split pea soup. We pickedout our tea, the chocolate rose and the lychee. We then got our tower of tea sandwiches and sweets along with scones that had two types of jam and clotted cream. Stopped by Mariebelle after shopping around SoHo. We did not have a reservation but we were able to snag a spot at the cafe. We waited around 15mins for a table for 2 but I do making a reservation. While we waited we bought the hazelnut truffles which we really enjoyed. We also purchased two other chocolates that were on display in the flavor of Earl Grey and mint. The staff were all very nice they gave us samples of the chocolate with our purchase. While we were waiting for our table in the cafe we were offered hot chocolate shots. We got the cold white hot chocolate shots which was surprisingly tasty. In the cafe, we got the espresso, hot chocolate, and the milk, hot chocolate both with whipped cream on the side. We also got the Madeline and the macaroons. Everything was delicious!! The cafe was very cute and everything was giving Christmas/ holiday vibes. Started with large Tiffany blue cups of Aztec hot chocolate so thick that you could eat/drink it with your spoon. The best seller for a reason. Decadently delicious and worth the hype. While the initial service and the price of the chocolates might not be for everyone, the friendly service at the bar and the exceptional drinks make it a worthwhile stop for a sweet treat in the city. During my first visit, the initial interaction at the front counter was a bit on the cooler side and felt somewhat unwelcoming. On the other hand, the service at the bar area towards the back was a definite highlight. The server there was friendly and attentive, creating a much more lively environment. They also helped me choose the best chocolates to purchase based on my taste. I only wish I remembered the name to give them proper credit! MarieBelle's chocolates are visually stunning. They are little works of art! They have an amazing flavor selection and the taste is enjoyable, but I felt that the price reflects their exquisite presentation and workmanship more than a significant difference in flavor compared to other quality chocolates. What a cute, quaint cafe! I'm a sucker for afternoon teas and MarieBelle hit the spot! When you walk in you'll be in chocolate heaven as the shop has so many chocolate items in cute packaging to purchase - that alone had mouth watering lol. There was one waiter working the entire cafe (that's how small it is) and his name is Johnny the Troublemaker! Now Johnny was amazing! He was never stressed by handling everything himself (he did have a helper). He was attentive, explained everything thoroughly and was engaging. I hope he is working on the day that I go back- he really enhanced our experience! He gave us a chocolate drink shot to get us started. It was so rich and decadent I wanted to drink an entire vat of it lol. We ordered mimosas and for once I have to say I actually tasted the champagne! If you've read any of my reviews you know that most places I go to don't really give you any alcohol in their drinks so this was quite the surprise. We had the afternoon tea service - I had the chocolate rose tea and it was so good. The tea service started with a small split pea soup in the cutest cup with little spoon. The soup was delicious and definitely left you wanting more. The rest of the service was typical tea service items scones, finger sandwiches, macaroons, etc. To our surprise we left there feeling quite full which hasn't happened at other teas that I've been to. I couldn't walk by through the store without buying myself a treat to go - the box of chocolates I selected was not only delicious but beautifully packaged. I stopped by MarieBelle as a part of my hot chocolate exploration journey in NYC and had a pretty good time! Unfortunately I didn't make reservations at the Cacao Room and try their more elaborate hot chocolates / desserts. Nevertheless I still got to try their hot chocolates, which were more decadent than other places. The texture was more thick and felt like a dessert, more than an actual drink. It is pretty pricey for the small amount you get, but because it's so vicous the portion size was actually appropriate for me. The Spicy Hot Chocolate featured a solid 60% cacao with ancho chili, nutmeg, and cinnamon. As a fan of oaxacan/mexican hot chocolate, I enjoyed how it was spiced, but not spicy. I normally like the bitterness from the dark chocolate; however in this case, I think increasing the sweetness would complement the said spices. The Milk Hot Chocolate with 38% cacao, on the other hand, was a little too sweet for me. The store itself was beautifully decorated in a vintage European theme with blue, white, and gold accents that creates a luxurious ambience. Their chocolates were nicely presented around the space. There is a separate counter for purchasing chocolate vs the hot chocolate drinks. The Cacao Room is all the way in the back with a few tables. read more

For NYC it's quite difficult to find souvenir gifts that don't look like they belong in a time capsule that's from the 80s. After some Yelp digging though I ended up checking this chocolatier/cafe out! Got a few pre-packaged chocolate ganache boxes as souvenir gifts and *of course* I had to get something for myself! I made a custom 6 pc chocolate ganache box. Was such a challenge to choose just 6 from the large display of pretty chocolate ganache pieces but I had a bunch of help from the two friendly ladies at the counter. To avoid writing too long of a review essay here I'm going to elaborate on only my top 3 flavors and briefly mention the others! --------------- Passion fruit: Was delighted to hear that the passion fruit one is one of the bestsellers because passion fruit is one of my favorite chocolate flavor companions! The piece here was quite tasty albeit a tad overly tart. Not the best flavor balance between passion fruit and chocolate that I've tried but nitpicking aside I'm sure passion fruit fans will still appreciate this one. Toffee: one of the ladies at the counter strongly recommended this one and, oh boy, did she recommend right. Bold toasty taste *and* surprisingly no solid pieces that could get stuck in your teeth!!! Silky smooth, caramel-like magic. Have to say that this one was my favorite one in the box. Lavender: pretty strong floral taste, which I loved as it paired really well with the richness of the chocolate! Others: The Earl Grey one didn't have a pronounced floral taste like the lavender one. The Madagascar one is a solid choice if you want something without much of the bells and whistles to it. The hazelnut one didn't have a notable flavor and had a gritty texture which was a little off-putting. --------------- Overall 4 stars! Came here on a Saturday after lunch and there was surprisingly no wait for a table. I got the small Aztec hot chocolate. It was so rich and thick - I loved it and finished it! Not sure if I would be able to finish the large size though. I think that might be too much for me. They let us sample the white hot chocolate with vanilla, which also tasted absolutely wonderful! We also got the lemon meringue tart, which came with vanilla gelato on the side. It was very good and not too sweet, which I appreciated. Seating is a bit limited, so I would definitely recommend trying to make a reservation first. The interior is so very gorgeous. Staff was very kind, helpful, and attentive. Definitely stick to smallest size as it is rich and heavy although decadent. My friend got the white hot chocolate which I really enjoyed and it wasn't as sweet or rich which I appreciated. Probably what I would get if I went back. Outside of hot cocoa they do have teas, white, coffee, iced drinks, wine. They also have some desserts that were tempting but we were skipped as the hot chocolate was rich and indulgent. I would def go back to try desserts and chocolates too. read more

I have had high tea here and do stop by to buy hot chocolate to make at home. I have also bought pieces of chocolate candies. But this time, I needed an American made chocolate to give as a gift. I bought a box of the New York theme and another box choosing the different flavors they have which contained liquor. Before leaving, o just had to have their deep dark chocolate sorbet. This is the cutest little shop! I came with reservations that I was luckily able to snag last minute to try their wine and chocolate pairing. I absolutely loved their passion fruit Chocolate! They also gave us a sample of their hazelnut hot chocolate which was also so so amazing. I bought their biggest bag so I could take home! The wine tasting also came with a little side of grapes and a grilled cheese of some kind. I'm not sure what type of cheese they put in it but it was amazing. I really enjoyed coming here. We went to Cacao Bar inside the MarieBelle shop in SoHo for afternoon tea. The inside was a nice size, not too large, but enough tables and chairs to meet their demand. Afternoon Tea comes with the traditional 3-tier serving tray with scones and finger sandwiches, plus their desserts on their own little serving tray. The Afternoon Tea also comes with a Seasonal Soup, which was a warm pea soup with roasted nuts on this day, really tasty. We also got Mimosa to add to our Afternoon Tea. The Mimosa came in a large glass, very nice, very orange-y, sweet and refreshing. The 3-tier-tray was pretty big, everything looked really good, nicely crafted and plated with care. The top tier had Traditional Scones with Jam & Clotted Cream. The second tier had finger sandwiches. The third tier had more, different kinds of finger sandwiches. They were all pretty darn good. If you are thinking "but where is the dessert part?" not to worry, it comes in their own tiered tray! It came with four kinds of desserts on them. They were all small sized desserts, which was a good thing as we were getting full after the first 3-tier of savory items. I've had the ganache from MarieBelle before, and they were always very good. This one was a big hit, as we all love white chocolate, and matcha. With the desserts, we got a drink of our choice. We would usually go for some kind of tea, but since we were at a chocolate shop, most of us went with hot chocolate. I ordered White Hot Chocolate, so rich and velvety, great for white chocolate lover. My mother and my hubby went with Milk Hot Chocolate, perfect cup of hot chocolate! My niece wanted to try one of their tea selections, and went with Guava Herbal Tea. It came with a plate full of candied ginger, which was awesome. My niece really enjoyed that! Highly recommend a reservation in the chocolate room in the back. They have a selection of dark, milk, and white chocolate hot chocolate to choose from. The chocolate drinks are piping hot and absolutely delicious. Not to mention a highlight is the delectable chocolate lava cake (with a side of Tahitian vanilla ice cream)...if you love chocolate you have to order it! Conquered the rain for the dreamiest high tea at @mariebelleofficial ! We were welcomed by the sweetest staff and treated to complimentary white hot chocolate while we browsed the menu (genius!). Their hot chocolate options with alternative milk are amazing (mine: midnight espresso with oat milk, hubby's: spiced). Both were incredible! The finger sandwiches were delicious, and the scones with fig & strawberry jams were heavenly. This place is really cute and cozy. Can't recommend this experience enough! read more
