I called Marin Rat and Rodent for what I specifically described as a rat exclusion inspection. Unfortunately, the visit felt very superficial and not what I expected for an exclusion assessment. The technician walked around the outside of the house, placed blue tape on a few visible gaps, and suggested sealing those areas, but there was no meaningful inspection inside the crawlspace or ceiling areas where the actual nesting and damage turned out to be. No one looked at the insulation or interior conditions, which is where I later discovered the real problem. I was also surprised to learn there was a $150 charge for the visit. It may be deducted if you hire them, but this was not clearly explained beforehand, and I had assumed it was a free estimate like most pest inspections. That should have been stated up front. Overall, this felt more like a quick exterior walkthrough than a thorough rat exclusion evaluation. I ended up hiring another contractor who did a detailed crawlspace inspection and identified significant interior nesting and insulation damage that this company completely missed. I would suggest clarifying fees in advance and asking exactly what their inspection includes before booking. read more

I conducted a Yelp project for rodent control project. We received several immediate responses from local companies via Yelp. Very impressive. The reason for providing a "" for the company is required a $150.00 fee to provide an inspection and estimate. None of the other vendors who responded to my Yelp project required payment for an estimate, and all were free. Not sure why they require such a fee but as you can read below "Hi! Sorry to hear about your rodent problem. We want to help! We can come out and do a full inspection of the property and give you a written estimate detailing what it would cost to fix the issue. The charge is $150 for the inspection and written estimate, and we could see you as soon as Thursday" I thanked them for their response but shared I would not be using them. We ultimately selected one of the Yelp vendors since they provided an up to $2,500 service guarantee. UPDATE: I wanted to provide a review versus not giving a review at all for Marin Rat. I appreciate the response from the company. However, I wanted to share my experience, given that it was a Yelp project. All the other vendors completed on-site hour long free inspections and detailed estimate proposals outlining their services. I appreciate Marin making a business decision to charge a $150 fee for an inspection and estimate, however, I believe Yelp users needed to know my experience. I will add an additional "star" given their prompt response to my review and assistance in their rating score overall and not for their actual services. read more

Al = On time, professional, honest/fair pricing, excellent quality of work and he's employing and training people during the pandemic. I had an pest/exterminator company come and set traps only to find out by another service company that there was a old/decaying rat in my crawlspace. I also heard scratching in my walls/floors (new house) and knew I needed to do something about abatement. One phone call to Al and he was on his way to my house to set traps. Two weeks later he came to BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES. This guy did clean work. I mean clean. How often are you showing off to your friends the new screens on the vents to your house? Awesome team of Brian and Tim came out on short notice. The rat got in our tiny apartment a couple days ago, and outwitted 1) the resident, 2) Marin Humane Society, 3) our property's current pest control service provider. 4) four traps, two wooden ones, and two sticky ones. Everyone from the office was about to go away for the weekend. After some discussion regarding price and continuity of service, Brian and TIm and the property manager came to an agreement to proceed with a one time only favor. We scrambled with a plan to block exit lanes.... closed the door. About ten minutes later, the victorious Brian and TIm came out having scored a goal with a wrist rocket. The rat met his maker, (as all living creatures must), and showed me the battlefield afterward. I am so very grateful, as I had no idea how huge my sentient, disease ridden squatter roommate was. Pretty darn big. The aftermath was dealt with with Lysol, Double gloves, bucket, rags, by a great maintenance person who is too humble to be named here, and I can sleep in peace tonight. Can't say enough good things. We came home from Tahoe to find droppings around the kitchen, not ideal. Called MR&R, and Spencer the General Manager was at our house within 2 hours (we called 5 companies, next best response time was going to be 4 days). He did a full walk around, and had his guys out to our house at 9am the next day to get started. He even provided a few traps that night to get ahead of the work. Al juggled his schedule to come out the day after I called. Based on the evidence he identified the visitor as a raccoon, found the entry point and recommended a strategy to "exit" the visitor before sealing up the entry. Waste of time & money. They were quick to come out to do a survey and charge us, but then they missed 2 appointments to do the work and never called. This is a word of warning to potential customers. I had a rat issue and called Al, he quickly responded and identified areas of possible entry, gave me an estimate of cost to fix and I agreed. Work was done quickly. While he was inspecting other possible entry places, he found dead rats in my cellar, identified possible entries and said I had to pay $500 upfront (separate from the invoice to fix the exterior openings. Here's the warning: He does not use any contract and, perhaps I was stupid not to clarify that the charge was to do the job--get rid of the rats. So, a worker came, set three traps in the cellar and fixed the possible openings. The worker came back three times to check the traps and nothing was caught. But I told Al that I still could hear them in the walls. He sent a worker this week who said "Al wants a check". He had another invoiced for $500. I think this is ridiculous! I understood that the original payment was to cover all work until the rats were gone. So my caution is to get a contract or something in writing so that both Al and you are clear about expectations. PS: I set a trap in my kitchen yesterday and got a rat last night. Do I earn $500??? read more
