On our way home from Julian, we stopped at this incredible gem of a place. Service was stellar. Food was awesome! We had the buffalo chicken sandwich and chicken Alfredo. The flavor was so rich and the fried chicken was moist and flavorful. My kiddos had the chicken tenders and we shared the butterscotch pudding until every drop was gone. Prices are very reasonable. We were looking for an amazing lunch and found just that at Marinade on Main. We started with fried green tomatoes. So good. The crunchy coat and the acid from the tomatoes kept my mouth salvating for more. I ordered the Honey Mistard Chicken sandwich. I opted for the fried chicken over the grilled. It came on a brioche bun, citrus slaw and honey mustard dressing. I enjoyed every bite. Service was also worth mentioning. All the ladies serving were a pleasure. **This review is based strictly on their service/operations** I hate to be that person to leave a less than 5 star review - because their food is delicious and their staff are super friendly - but after 2 incidents, my bf and I are left with a terrible impression. My bf and I had planned a little getaway/staycation (Thu-Sat) here in Ramona, and I was really excited to have dinner AND brunch at Marinade on Main after reading all the great reviews. My bf called ahead to make dinner and brunch reservations; however, the hostess said they don't take reservations for brunch on the weekdays anymore. My bf said the hostess didn't seem too sure herself, so he decided to call again the next day. He spoke to another hostess who said that they do take them, so my bf made reservations for 10 AM on Friday. Thursday night, we had our dinner reservation and enjoyed everything. Our main meals did take much longer than expected, but we were enjoying ourselves and figured they might be understaffed due to COVID. Friday morning comes around and 10 mins before our reservation time, we're making our way back for our brunch reservations (it was only a short 5 min drive away). I pull up the restaurant on my phone - via Google - and see that it says they're closed and don't open until 11 AM.. so I call them to confirm and they explained they had made our reservation for Saturday morning at 10 AM; they were very apologetic and explained that they had a new hostess. We were a bit disappointed but decided to just go somewhere else since we were already on our way to Main St, and would just come back for brunch the next day before we headed back home from our trip. So after spending the afternoon swimming and lounging in the sun, my bf and I were famished and decided to just get takeout from Marinade on Main for dinner. On our way, we call and place our order, and were told it would be 30 mins. No problem; we parked nearby and waited in the car. After 30 mins, we drive up to the takeout area and follow the directions for takeout orders (text a number, and specify our location and car). We didn't get a response back and figured they must be taking longer than usual; especially given how long our meals took Thursday night and there were other ppl waiting around for their orders. So we continued to wait and figured they would either call or text us back, since they even took my number down when I had placed the order. But after another 30 mins, we were getting very hangry and so I got out and waited to speak with one of the hostesses. I asked about our order and after she went to go check on it, she said that it's been ready for a while now.. I was beyond furious at this point. She asked if we had texted the number, and I said we did over 30 mins ago. The hostess was nice but wasn't really apologetic; not realizing their mistake. So we ended up leaving there, starving and extremely annoyed, only to eat cold food from having it sit there for an extra 30 mins while we were waiting outside. The next morning (today), my bf and I decided that we didn't even want to go back and try their brunch, so I called and cancelled our reservation. It truly is a shame because they did have good food, but they need to improve their overall service. I really hope they can better train their employees and improve their takeout process. read more

Why only the 4 stars you ask, let me tell you. Let's start with how hot it was inside. It was so warm my husband and myself had rosie cheeks when we left. Service was rather slow but it was lunchtime so I can't really complain to much. It's good to be busy. My plate of marinade's Sammie was absolutely delicious! My sweet husband decided on the cinnamon French toast. Presentation was great, if only it was as tasty as it looked. It was dry. My sweet husband didn't even finish his 1/2 loaf of toast (see picture) there was no syrup served with it nor butter so it was not what he had expected from your typical French toast. Parking was fun as there are only 5 spots. No biggy, we parked across the street hopefully I won't come out to a side mirror taken off like the table next to us. Overall, I would come in again. The marinade in Ramona, is one if my favorites. The other night we had the short ribs, which fell off the bone! They were not overly spiced or over smothered with sauce, the natural juices were seasoned just right, that with the tenderness of the meat, you could not help, but say "mmm" with each bite! There a lot other great options all done with local ingredients and to perfection. It's literally stifling, stuffy & miserable. NOTE: On a previous visit I made a comment to our waitress about the horrible music. If it was just "classic rock" music that would be fine however it shuffles and plays hard rock music....not appropriate for a relaxing dinner out. This is currently the finest restaurant in Ramona, in my humble opinion. They are busy most nights, so a reservation is a good idea. I made a reservation for 8 pm, but then we showed up a little early (on a week night) and there were plenty of tables. The seating is comfortable, with benches against the wall featuring plenty of pillows, for a comfy country atmosphere. It's a casual, modern vibe however, reminiscent of a farmer's market cafe. We ordered the charcuterie plate as an appetizer and my friend had the five beer flight for $10 which he claimed was quite tasty: there's a large variety of local micro brews to choose from. I had the tomato bisque soup and grilled cheese sandwich. In retrospect, it was entirely too much food: the sandwich was way too rich after the charcuterie plate, so I took a lot home. But it was still quite tasty. My friend had the pork skillet, and again, took a lot home, but he enjoyed it very much as well. I'd like to see some more veggie items/salads that don't involve brussel sprouts, just cos I'm not a huge fan of them.... But since this place is farm to table, I'm sure the menu will vary with time. read more

Services was amazing and the out door dine-in, felt like you were not outside. My daughters never like anything they order, but they cleaned their plates. Every time I go to Marinade on Main I order something different. I have yet to be disappointed! Tonight was no exception. I ordered the caprese grilled sandwich & tomato bisque soup. Be prepared to walk away STUFFED. The bread is thick, perfectly toasted (or in this case, grilled), with melted mozzarella, juicy tomato, and fresh basil. It pairs perfectly with the tomato bisque soup, fresh & hearty. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie. It too is fresh, savory, & full of chunky goodness. TIP: If you want to go for dinner, make reservations or get there when they open (for dinner). The earlier, the better. We showed up at 6pm, 3-4 tables were occupied. By 7pm, the place was packed! Let me start by saying that this review has nothing to do with the food. I've never actually eaten here. Unfortunately, my husband (who has a very specific palate) and I were visiting the area for a weekend getaway. This was the one restaurant that I was counting on to meet his needs. Due to COVID-19 requirements the only seating options were outside. We waited quite a while before anyone even acknowledged our presence even though the team of three repeatedly walked past us. Eventually, one of the ladies said it would be about 10 minutes - two tables were closing out and she would seat us when they left. Suddenly, a new diner walks up and all of the staff suddenly found their customer service acumen. Problems: - they ignored us, flat out had nothing to say - they refused the table that we wanted, stating the new diner had a reservation (fine, but did she reserve that specific table?). This mattered to us because it was super hot and this table wasn't far from the outdoor fan. My husband was pretty upset, but I just wanted to leave. I generally don't patronize places that mistreat me. Needless to say, this impacted our entire weekend. There are not many vegan options in a place like Ramona and well, this is unfortunately one that we will never experience as diners. Food was really, really great but the service was terrible. We walked in and two staff remembers were seated drinking coffee and didn't acknowledge us (presumably taking their break). Took a few minutes to get seated and the one remaining server took a while to get our drinks. They forgot about one drink so that arrived about 15 minutes later. Just super slow and no attention to detail. I would go back for the food and would just ensure to allocate 90 minutes for the meal. The staff was very polite just not on top of their game. You want to talk about a fantastic place to eat! I have eaten here six times, and it's been fantastic every time. I get the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, and I think about it when I'm eating breakfast I've made at home sometimes. And the potatoes that come with it are so crispy on the outside and somehow fluffy on the inside. They're delicious. If you go during the week, they have delicious juices. I get the energizer, it's so refreshing. Moving off breakfast, the burgers are delicious. I had the pasta for dinner once and it was fantastic. The restaurant is so cute and quaint. They have a nice little selection of beer and wine. The wait staff is so friendly, I've never had a second of bad service. I feel like I spent a lot of space talking about the biscuit and gravy, but seriously, this place is amazing. A tasty little gem in Ramona, and you won't regret eating here! read more
