Have not visited Ramona since 2010. I was very active in the community from 1993-2010. Nuevo Grill & Cantina was a go-to spot. When in Rome, go to Nuevo Grill or something like that. For those that remember and loved Carlos Murphy's would appreciate Nuevo Grill. The owners came from Carlos Murphy's and opened this place in Ramona. The food is good and the chips and salsa is world class. I had the Nuevo Caesar with shrimp and my wife had the Nuevo Tostada with shredded chicken. Salads were big and neither of us were able to finish them. In fact, my wife commented that she must have received an entire chicken! Service is friendly and they have acres of parking. If in Ramona, give Nuevo Grill & Cantina a try. I know you will love their chips and salsa. Yum! read more

Visited 4/4/2023 I waited along time to try this place as I've always heard the food wasn't up to par. Gave in today and Gave it a try. I have to say it's not going to be a favorite of mine. I'm being extremely generous with 3 Stars it's more like 2 1/2 at best for food quality. First for the good. It's a nice clean restaurant with fantastic service and nice tables and booths. There is even a few tables outside in front. My Server (Pearls) was a Lovely young lady very friendly and helpful seeing they no longer have Written Happy Hour Menus or Taco Tuesday Menus Anywhere. At least she had everything memorized right down to the prices. I understand not having specialty menus on the bar and tables when Covid dictated it but that's long over. The owner should Stop being cheep and have new ones made and displayed. The prices have gone way up beyond the quality being served. It was Taco Tuesday so I ordered 5 different Street Tacos also overpriced for a street taco anywhere. 5 to 6 dollars each. I ordered one of each. Carnitas, Fried Fish, Fried Shrimp, Calamari, and a Shredded Beef. All of the 5 fillings were not bad but had no wow factor. My favorite was The Carnitas had fantastic flavor. Sadly the Tortillas were a disaster. Very Stale tasting and you had to rip a bite off to eat them. My least favorite of the 5 was The Fried Fish. I will say The House Margarita was not bad even at $9.00 HH Price. The Corn Chips were nice and thin and fresh and crispy. The Salsa was lacking in flavor and texture like it came out of a can. The Chicken Wings, 8 wings for $10.00 HH Price were good. I ordered them Naked with BBQ sauce on the side and Ranch Dressing for dipping. All in all I give this place 3 Stars for The ambience and friendly service of the staff. To bad this place could be great with a little attention. read more

Sad it used to be one of my favorite places for nachos.. ordered tonight I got half a plate of soggy nachos I called them to let them know since I had asked for a large order and they said to come in for a new order which I was glad well got the same amount and instead of saying sorry about the ordered manager said that's what u ordered she said the girl that took the order said it was a medium, she said take both orders I left the old order there that's not what I wanted I had told her they were super soggy. At least new order was not soggy but for $20 not worth it. Will include picture and I will say I had eaten 2 chips before picture. I know times are tough for everyone but this is crazy. read more

Apparently this is my mother-in-law's favorite place to get a burger now that she's in Ramona... it seemed a little random, but we came one night so I could see what she was talking about Inside the decor is decent, nothing fancy and the middle bar area has a few TV's to watch sport games so that's a plus As far as the burger goes, it was definitely tasty... worth $20? Seasoning was 100% absent in every part of my dish, I had the carne aside street tacos, meat was flavorless, the refried beans...I don't even know how one messes that up but they did, no flavor. I ended up picking at my food and taking home to try and salvage it with seasoning. No spice to the salsa, will not be going back. Ambience is okay, quiet and cute decor. Service was friendly but lacking, took 15 minutes to just get ice water, and we went on a random wed when it wasn't that busy. read more

The service was great. The food was terrible. We have been going there for over five years. The last three times the food was I ordered shedded chicken enchiladas ,there was little chicken and the green sauce was dried up. The cheese on the top was two slices ofwhite cheese They tried to melt. With two red onions on top. Please get the food better. read more

The enchiladas were terrible, i definitely do not recommend. Cook put a tiny scoop of sour cream on top of lettuce to make it look like more than it is. The rice was dry and hard also! Plate was overpacked with beans and there was hardly any sauce.. I ended up ripping open the enchiladas & only eating the Carne asada. Incredibly excited to be back eating inside a restaurant! For our inaugural dine-out sesh we went to Nuevo Grill & Cantina. They were among the small handful of restaurants in Ramona to have quickly adopted the new normal in accordance with San Diego County guidelines. Their 'rona protocol was seamless and professional. In fact after being seated you really couldn't tell anything was different. Other than there being absolutely nothing to touch on the tables. I remember I used to enjoy fiddling with the hanging happy hour menu thing. It was probably a petri dish so it's just as well not to have it there. Anyway, I ordered a carne asada enchilada lunch special that was outstanding. Full of their tender and flavorful char-grilled steak. One of my go-to faves here that I've ordered for many years. I was also thrilled to be indulging in their award winning chips & salsa. Paired perfectly with a nice, cold draft beer. Something I haven't been able to enjoy since March 16. We had a get away weekend in the small town of Ramona. After an afternoon pub crawl we chose Nuevo Grill & Cantina for our dinner choice. The pros: -the complimentary chips were terrific -the Wahoo in by burrito had great flavor and I could taste the delicious grilled smokiness The cons: -there was 1 server and 1 cook for about 20+ people in the dining room. It took about 40 minutes from first ordering to the time we finally got our food -the Mexican rice that came with my dinner plate was extremely dry -the Wahoo fish in my burrito was excellent, but the burrito seemed to consist more of onions and red bell pepper than fish. And the onions and bell pepper were huge pieces...I wish they were cut smaller read more

I must say, I was impressed. I happened to finish my grocery shopping at Albertsons in the same shop center. I wanted to try something different during my 3 hour motorcycle ride and not stop in Julian for some pie. I was actually interested in Ramona Noodles (next door) to Nuevo- but, they didn't have any restrooms available there. So, I stopped by here. There aren't gender neutral restrooms here. Looking at the menu- typical Mexican restaurant offerings. But, the steak enchiladas is what caught attention. You're started off with a basket of fresh deep fried tortilla chips and a homemade salsa. Think it was tomatillos, and dried chiles. Since I wanted a hot tea with my meal- I squeezed the extra lemon citrus onto my tortilla chips that were also lightly salted. My plate arrived and I was warned it was hot. When the server warns you ahead of time- sometimes I pay attention. Sometimes I don't because it ends up being a lukewarm "hot" plate. LOL. Not the case here. My fingers almost singed. But, I could see all that goey cheese melt and runneth over my rolled enchiladas. You can tell the cooks really put some TLC in the enchilada sauce. This plate wasn't just pour the sauce outta the can and let's nuke it in the microwave. There was a pool of oil in that deep red enchilada sauce- getting to know that pool of melted cheese. Steak enchiladas, remember? Yup. The strips of steak meat were flavorful- just like my scoop of rice. I made sure I scooped up the sour cream and shredded lettuce and tipped my enchiladas. That fresh homemade salsa- bet your pretty ass I put spoonfuls of it throughout my plate. The beans were homemade. If you know, you know. Bland, yes. But, that's fine. I didn't add any salt. But, I did put salsa and even used my tortilla chips to scoop beans up too. Now, the portions for this 2 enchilada plate was perfect. I did have leftovers. However- since my backpack was full of groceries and I rode my motorcycle- I only finished half. Waaaaahhhhhh! I hate to waste food! read more

When you walk in this restaurant smells like rats. We sat down and it really smelt bad at our booth. We both pulled our phone flashlights to check for rodent turds we couldn't see any but the floors are really dark so who knows. We were about to leave and they brought chips so we felt obligated to at least try it. A very young girl probably 10 or so kept refilling drinks which was weird. But I'm happy they are teaching someone young work ethic. I went with a beef enchilada. I was not really impressed. The rice had some funky taste and was really spicy or peppered. Something just tasted off. I was pretty grossed out about trying this place. I dont know if the smell is just making everything taste funky or what. A year ago I came here during the week (afternoon) & ordered ribs--they didn't taste fresh. I came back three or four times during the Pandemic & ordered Mexican food. The food, atmosphere & service were great. Last night I decided to give the ribs another try since it was a Friday night & I figured the food would be fresh I couldn't eat the ribs because they didn't taste fresh & they are pricey. I've lived in Ramona 20 years so I've been to many of the businesses here. The ribs turned my stomach. If you eat here the Mexican Food is usually good. Same for the atmosphere & service. The tortilla soup can be great & fresh but sometimes it can be mushy & not so fresh. It seems to depend on the time of day & day of the week. Later times - not as good for some items on the menu but the Mexican food is usually great. We didn't get any silverware for about 5 minutes after getting our food this time around--they were busy. read more

Where to start... Came by with Mum on Sunday to grab a late lunch. The hostess was scurrying around the bar (more on that later) and didn't even acknowledge us as we stood there looking for a sign that said we should seat ourselves since clearly, no one else was going to do it. The server brought some chips and salsa, both of which were pretty good, and we asked for one minute to finish deciding. She gives us a minute, and then another, and then 3 more, and then another. When she (and all the other employees) finally tears herself away from the group of three good looking guys at the bar, we order and wait. And wait. And wait. It took almost half an hour to get our food! And with the salsa and the hot day, I could have used a few more water refills. Two tables came in after we had ordered and they promptly receive alcohol and second rounds and their food before we even got our food. Definitely drink if you plan on going here, you get way better service if they think you are going to drunkenly give them a larger tip. The food finally arrives and mum's fajita scramble was steaming hot and my machaca scramble was so cold, it couldn't even melt the cheese they had thrown on top. The machaca plate was okay, nothing special. Finished off with a "fried ice cream" that was barely edible. It was a fried tortilla covered in cinnamon. Topped with a frozen and freezer burned chunk of ice cream, topped with honey that crystallized as soon as it touched the ice cream. We found a few raisins and granola clusters in the botton of the bowl from where they half-heartedly sprinkled some bagged granola on it. I would have called it a sopapilla Ala mode since it had nothing that would actually make it a fried ice cream. Will definitely not be coming back. read more
