Horrible service today. Only 2 in our party. Hubby ordered breakfast plate , i ordered Small bowl Menudo. Took a bit for them to bring out his plate, didn't say anything to me, about my food, so i asked them, they checked, didn't say anything, i asked Again. By this time Hubby finished his food. He took his time eating cause he felt bad that i wasn't eating. Now I'm just flat out Mad... I told them to Forget my food as we were ready to pay now. I had to go to work in an hour. As my husband paid for his food, they were serving Menudo to others .. horrible service for us.. I had to go to Ricardo's, they are very fast, good tacos. Wouldn't have happened if Mario was there. The service is fast! Don't expect food here being like some Mexican food chain restaurants, it's not! It's true San Antonio Tex/Mex at its finest. It's not for out-of-staters. They're used to Casa Ole or some other garbage. how you judge a Mexican Food Restaurant is first by their hot sauce. Heard about this place through a friend. He told me about their Tripas and barbacoa. I didn't see them on the menu but I asked and they had it. Ordered everything on corn tortillas. The flour tortillas looked good. But I have to say these were some great tacos. I appreciate places that don't over salt their food. These were perfect in my opinion. The Tripas were had a crunch and really good. Add some of that green salsa for a little flavor and heat. This place is kind of small but I noticed the tables open pretty quick too. Ate here dang near everyday in high school 10+ years ago. Moved back and spent 40 dollars on 6 tacos, 3 which only consisted of bean and cheese. Tacos seemed smaller, tortillas didn't seem homemade anymore and the prices have doubled. read more

We have tried this place many times, and it's always the same result. We ask for Chips and Salsa during breakfast, and it's like they don't acknowledge and don't bring it. You're charging for it, so why not make the sale. This happens the last 3 times. I get its a small town feel, and people know each other but that doesn't mean you serve them first while others are sitting waiting to order. Breakfast tacos are good, but feel a lot of people don't realize that you get homemade tortillas when eating there but get packaged tortillas when you order to go tacos. Not sure who thought that was a good idea. I am ok going somewhere else if you don't want the business. I don't recommend for new customers. read more

The huevos rancheros come with eggs cooked to perfection your way (over easy for me), country potatoes, refried beans, and your choice of bacon or sausage, with either homemade corn or flour tortillas. A delicious red ranchero sauce is served with it. Breakfast tacos are a good size, and you'll find that you might struggle to get more than two down as they are filled to the brim. And let me repeat: HOMEMADE fluffy flour tortillas! Service: You'll seat yourself, and menus will be brought to you quickly. Staff are super friendly, and they do a great job of topping up coffee and other drinks. Cost: Huevos rancheros and coffee run about $14 after tax. Reasonable for what you get in return. Overall: Plenty of street parking (no meters). Air-conditioned and cosy. Tough for groups larger than 8 due to the space restraints inside. They take cards. read more

Been here a half dozen times, doesn't look like much, but the the service is excellent and the food is hot when served and really done right. It is friendly atmosphere and small, but very well organized. The coffee is good and cup is always full. Not a large Menu, but a good selection to choose from i.e. eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, breakfast tacos and more. Mario's is located in the quaint and super cute downtown Hutto. It's such a beautiful little town. I love that there is good parking , because no matter how small any downtown is, parking is usually a pain. Upon walking In, we were greeted by Valeria, our waitress, she was very friendly and we were seated really quick. Party of 7. The place had customers it was not empty. We were quickly given chips and salsa by the other waitress there. Their salsa is so good! The salsa was spicy but not too spicy. Great perfect spiciness and flavor. We all placed our drink orders. I asked for coffee. I desperately needed it! Then the owner came over and introduced himself. Such a sweet guy, very friendly. Stood there and talked to us, told us a little history about the restaurant. We all ordered different things, our way of trying different items on the menu! Absolutely everything was spot on! My absolute fave though? The beans! Man, they tasted like my grandmas. We also ordered some flour tortillas because man! They're addicting! Deff worth the price T We couldn't leave without ordering dessert , we had the sopapillas & I've personally only tried them with powdered sugar but I like their version better. We found ourselves in Hutto during breakfast hours. I stopped a local and asked where the breakfast joints are. He pointed me here. "As far as I know there's only Mario's" says he. Well what choice did we have then? Located on the same street with Hall of Fame and the Texan Cafe (which are both great), I really expected some good grub. This place is a small dive and when we were there it appeared that it was a seniors hangout for their morning social. We were greeted by a friendly waitress. She was real sweet, but, the only waitress. She was even the cashier!! WTF!! I understand multi-tasking, but, damn! We ordered coffee and water for drinks. Sidekick got the Huevos a la Mexicana plate and I got the daily $4.99 special of sausage gravy & biscuits that included the coffee. Good price. The coffee tasted like they used a paper towel as a filter when they brewed it. We were only afforded one cup. No refills were offered. Why? Because our waitress was too damn busy. The portion of the Huevos a la Mexicana was smaller than what we are used too, and, it was just ok. My bacon was chewy. Seriously. It was like eating freaking taffy. The sausage gravy is scratch, but, way too salty. This was a breakfast fail. Sad that Hutto doesn't have something better. read more

Out in West Texas I got hooked on how many of the Mexican restaurants served their breakfast, with refried beans, papas, carne guisada and tortillas over toast and pancakes. I've missed it since then. This is the first place I've found in the area that has a similar breakfast and the guisada is awesome. It makes me extremely happy to get it when I have a craving. I haven't tried anything else, but I can definitely recommend that breakfast. And the people are very friendly too. read more

The reviews seemed promising so I gave it a shot. I am an absolute Tex Mex snob. I guess I got spoiled by the restaurants in South Austin. I've been combing the North Side of Austin searching for my go to place. This isn't it unfortunately. The inside is rather small but that's what makes it quaint. Getting to the bathroom sucked because I. i had to climb behind the soda cooler to get there. Again forgivable for such a small space. The server was very friendly and helpful as this was our first time. It was so small that the only other patrons sitting in the dining room were obviously the kitchen staff and what I figured out was the owner. The food was very underwhelming. My wife ordered a beef and bean burrito. She even told me it smelled only like velveeta. And I'm certain it was. I ordered two crunchy tacos. The meat had very little flavor at all. The veggies in it were nice and fresh. The salsa was whatever. The refried beans were really good. If I were to ever go back that's all I would order. Maybe they were having an off moment because they were all sitting to eat their own lunch. And that doesn't upset me. Whatever food upsets me. I felt bad because it looks like a lot of love has gone into building this place. I just feel it needs to be revisited and have the interior and food updated. Wish I could leave zero stars. This restaurant is TERRIBLE. I saw multiple cockroaches in my visit on the walls and floors. The staff is always arguing and it's completely over priced! The dishes are always dirty! And everything smells awful. The ceilings are falling apart and it's soooo hot!! The food is unflavored garbage and the tiny tacos are way too overpriced. $2.50 for a two item taco (which comes with practically nothing) The restaurant is just DIRTY and nasty overall. The manager Kayla, always smells like cigarettes and is completely unorganized and looks like she just woke up. Mario needs to step him game up. My wife ordered the Carne Gisada and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Where do I even start, let's start with my wife's dish. It look terrible, meat didn't look appetizing at all. Beans look like can refried beans but they added water to increasing the servings to make more money. Beans were so runny and the rise was just awful almost stuck too each like paste. The Huevos Rancheros same issue with beans and rice and the egg tasted like a can of tomato nothing tasted fresh. We literally didn't even eat our food, we paid $26 to not eat there food. And the lady had the nerve to give us a weird look when we decided not to complain and just take our check and pay and leave. So, disappointed. They charge gratuity for 6 people or more. Complained that they don't have a sign posted on the door for ALL customers to see. The lady I talked to on the phone said it's posted on their menu under the drinks. I told her that information should be posted on the door so that customers can see and be aware.
