Perfect meal. Perfect service. Everything was delicious! We visited for a family birthday and the welcoming on arrival was pleasant. Warm beautiful dining room with a wood burning fireplace, with a fire going, on a chilly night. Ann, our server was perfect. Perfect timing and flow, gave us recommendations and bussed empty glasses and plates every pass. They start you off with warm fresh Italian bread and a bean salad. Both were tasty and they also said popovers are coming. Another staff appeared with a piping hot fresh baked basket of popovers and gave us each one. It didn't even need butter. Amazing. It felt like being in a bakery in Italy or Europe. Next, our apps and salads arrived. The calamari was tasty, as was the mushroom beignets. I wasn't used to this style of mushroom caps but boy were they delicious. The salad was tasty and came with fresh homemade bread bits as croutons. Everyone at the table enjoyed the apps, the popovers, and our entree. The specials list and deserts sounded wonderful but it was just so much food, we were full. This place was such a gem on the way home from a ski trip! Very nice, fancy Italian restaurant. The ambiance is so warm and welcoming. The food is to die for- we ordered the fried burrata for an appetizer, and lasagna for entree. But it came with so many extras - an amazing bean salad, fresh baked bread and butter, a woman came around offering with a basket of "pop overs" - a pastry. Lovely place and service is prompt and everyone is so nice. We also asked the bartender to make an elderflower spritz and it turned out delicious! read more

After hearing my dad talk about Mario's with that unmistakable "you just have to go" tone, Jonathan and I accompanied my parents for a long overdue visit. What we found was a little pocket of comfort, warmth, and care tucked into New Lebanon. The space itself is immediately welcoming. A dimly lit, cozy dining room to the right where diners looked relaxed and easy. And a cute, fun, warm bar area to the left with an impressive selection. I could absolutely see us popping in for an app and a drink midday, or a pre-dinner hangout while awaiting friends for reservations. Luckily, we did have reservations which I didn't expecting needing on a cold, late fall Wednesday. The popovers arrived warm and tender, and the mushroom beignets were these beautiful little flavor grenades that opened with an explosion of deep, soulful umami. They immediately set the tone for a meal made with intention. The homemade pasta is something special. My cavatelli came with house-made fennel sausage and shrimp, admittedly the shrimp was overcooked, but the dish as a whole was so generously and lovingly crafted, that it was easy to forgive. The short ribs were truly memorable: succulent, comforting, and exactly the kind of dish you want to share with people you love. Dessert was beautiful. Fresh, and grounded in local ingredients. That spiced, autumn-forward apple crisp was a perfect ending to our meal. One moment that stuck with us: a nearby four-top all ordered the tournedos of beef in perfect unison. It felt like witnessing a small tradition, an insider's secret. We smiled at each other knowing exactly what we'll order next time. We dined in tonight for our anniversary dinner. This is definitely my new favorite restaurant in the area! It was easy to find with plenty of parking. The aesthetic inside is moody/intimate/upscale with plenty of room at/around our table. Our server May was prompt, friendly, and kind. We started with French onion soup (definitely top 3 that I've ever tried) and crab cakes (tons of actual crab meat and minimal filler). They give you a bean salad with the bread, I didn't try it but my husband loved it! My husband had the braised beef and I had the chicken Oscar. Both meals were soooo delicious and cooked perfect. Our drinks were made well and we both agreed that we will definitely be back. I think this is an excellent choice for an intimate dinner or celebration dinner or for any dinner where you want to dress up and enjoy good quality food/drinks. I have been a resident of New Lebanon for almost 18 years and have enjoyed dining at Mario's often, sometimes with my wife and other times with friends/neighbors from the area. The food and service has always been excellent. Several weeks ago my wife made a reservation with Sara(?). When we arrived about 20 minutes in advance the receptionist, I think her name was Sara, directed us to the bar area. We have dined in that area in the past and found it comfortable, however this particular evening there was a family with two unruly young children so we asked to be seated in the dining room where there were five empty tables (this was around 6 PM). The receptionist said she had reservations, opened her reservation book and read off three reservations. I pointed out that two empty tables were not accounted for. The receptionist smiled, and not a friendly smile but one that sent the message "I'm in charge and I'll do what I want." We walked out. our party had a 7pm reservation for 4 on Saturday night. Even though there were empty 4 tops, the host would not seat us claiming our table ( which was assigned to us when the reservation was made) was still occupied. After waiting 15 minutes we asked why we couldn't be seated at the other empty tables and was told that we had to wait until our assigned table was available. Sarah (assumed manager) claimed falsely that we accused five 16 year old employees of being stupid, which was not true and told us that we wouldn't not be served, thus we had to find another restaurant at 7:30 that served dinner. Sarah was extremely rude and not at all understanding of the situation. Do not frequent a restaurant that is rude to customers. read more

My husband and I made a reservation online for 6pm, New Year's Day. When we arrived, at least 2 of their smaller tables were empty. The host checked us in but never ushered us to a table. We sat down for a few minutes when another couple came in - they were acknowledged but they were also standing in the entrance way. At that point The hostess said something to my husband who tried to get closer to hear what she was saying. He tripped on a fake Christmas tree and she accused him of being rude to her. I asked what the matter was and she told me that even though we made a reservation it was not guaranteed to be seated in the dining room but if we like we could sit at the lounge. She knew that was not an option because I had called earlier asking if there were any tables available for earlier than 6pm. She then offered a lounge seat, which we declined. She could've been more honest and transparent instead of making us drive there (40 minutes) knowing that she had no intention of seating us. She ruined our New Year's evening. On the way to VT decided to stop by, haven't been there in more than 5 years. I walked in with no reservations, from the looks of it the place was full. Requested a table for one - within a few minutes I was seated. The place changed somewhat from my last visit, but all good. The daily special was Spanish Grilled Octopus ordered Roasted Eggplant Soup & Octopus, only to be told Octopus is sold out - OK Duck breast & leg confit. In the meantime warm home made bread and small dish of white been salad came out. Bread was delicious with a nice thin crust, soft and warm inside. The bean salad was also delicious. Now came out home made profiterole - hmmmm could not get enough. Soup arrives, I was expecting a cup instead it was a bowl - ok, I shall give it a try. The soup appeared to be in a tomato cream sauce - very good. I'm not much for these vegetable soups but this one was good. By the time the duck arrived I was not hungry but in any case had to have some. The breast was cooked perfectly tender, crisp skin, the leg was also cooked perfectly. Both sides - mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus were good. Had to take most of the duck home. Well worth a stop on your way to points north. Must be doing something right since 1964. read more

The mushrooms beignet were absolutely delicious!!! perfectly crisp on the outside and full of flavor inside. The tournedos of beef were cooked to perfection, tender and rich, easily one of the best I've had. Last night we started with the mushroom beignet and bacon wrapped scallops, then for dinner my wife had the Veal Oscar and I had Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken Breast stuffed with goat cheese and over a pea risotto Both were absolutely delicious and then to end it with absolutely delectable Crème Brûlée was perfect. We always make sure we get our favorite waitress May. The whole staff is amazing. Highly recommended!!! read more

Excellent restaurant for my birthday celebration. Very accommodating, able to sit 9 of us at a table with a couch, which was perfect. Reservations are highly recommended as this is a busy place. Service was attentive and friendly, very busy dining night as well. The appetizers were yummy, loved the unique popovers and all of the entrees were delicious! We had a 90th birthday celebration for my Mom. Everyone at Mario's was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure everything was great. There were 18 people in our party including a baby. There was even room for the baby seat in a little banquette. We sat in by the fireplace which was warm and cozy. Great for a chilly, windy night. They have a great variety of meals to order from. People ordered many different options. There were excellent meals all around. We brought a cake and cupcakes in which they cut and served to us, as well as singing Happy Birthday with us! One waitress even volunteered to take a group picture of us out on the porch. We had the pleasure of dining at this gem of an Italian restaurant last night and had an extremely memorable meal. Though the restaurant was crowded and we were seated at a table in the bar, it was not loud, and the ambience was warm and cozy. The menu included several distinctive selections that it was hard to decide what to order. Our server, Brian, knew the menu inside out and made helpful suggestions. He was extremely attentive to our family and made sure that we always had a full basket of warm Italian bread on our table. The relish beans that he brought out with the bread were a delicious accompaniment. After our salads, we were each given the most amazing popover we've ever tasted. Flaky and crispy on the outside, and moist and buttery on the inside - absolutely perfect! Our entrées did not disappoint either. From the delicious lasagna bolognese, veal Parmesan, and eggplant Parmesan to the pasta and meatball entrées for the kids, all were generous portions with an authentically Italian taste. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant and cannot wait to return for our next meal! read more

I dined here solo recently during Covid-19. It's a cozy little place and the food was prepared expertly and served quickly. I had the calamari to start. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I would have preferred the heads as well as the rings from the body, but we are in the mountains here, not on the seashore. I was looking forward to my entree of pan-seared scallops. They arrived quickly and were done perfectly. However, there were only 5 pieces of scallops. And this Rhode Island boy knows what a sea scallop looks like. These were definitely cut in half so I got 2 and a 1/2 scallops for $28. They were fresh and perfectly done, but that is a little pricey. They came on a bed of richly prepared risotto. I certainly was not looking for more food, but the complimentary pop over was excellent! My waitress was both friendly and attentive. read more

The good: Last night we were a party of six. Food and service exceptional. Big portions of salmon, trout, duck, eggplant parm, . the Poppers were delicious. The bad: Noise level way too high. Need acoustic tiles throughout to soften noise. The next is a petty policy that left a bad taste (pun intended) in my mouth. I ordered a glass of Cranberry juice without ice. The bill listed a charge of $.50 cents for "drink- no ice". The total bill was $121.00. We were told that since no ice in the glass there was more juice, so they added an extra $.50 cent charge. The policy is dumb, and would make a great "Larry David episode". read more
