    Braised beef

We dined in tonight for our anniversary dinner. This is definitely my new favorite restaurant in the area! It was easy to find with plenty of parking. The aesthetic inside is moody/intimate/upscale with plenty of room at/around our table. Our server May was prompt, friendly, and kind. We started with French onion soup (definitely top 3 that I've ever tried) and crab cakes (tons of actual crab meat and minimal filler). They give you a bean salad with the bread, I didn't try it but my husband loved it! My husband had the braised beef and I had the chicken Oscar. Both meals were soooo delicious and cooked perfect. Our drinks were made well and we both agreed that we will definitely be back. I think this is an excellent choice for an intimate dinner or celebration dinner or for any dinner where you want to dress up and enjoy good quality food/drinks. Very impressed and I highly recommend!

    Home made profiteroles and bread

On the way to VT decided to stop by, haven't been there in more than 5 years. I walked in with no reservations, from the looks of it the place was full. Requested a table for one - within a few minutes I was seated. The place changed somewhat from my last visit, but all good. The daily special was Spanish Grilled Octopus ordered Roasted Eggplant Soup & Octopus, only to be told Octopus is sold out - OK Duck breast & leg confit. In the meantime warm home made bread and small dish of white been salad came out. Bread was delicious with a nice thin crust, soft and warm inside. The bean salad was also delicious. Now came out home made profiterole - hmmmm could not get enough. Soup arrives, I was expecting a cup instead it was a bowl - ok, I shall give it a try. The soup appeared to be in a tomato cream sauce - very good. I'm not much for these vegetable soups but this one was good. By the time the duck arrived I was not hungry but in any case had to have some. The breast was cooked perfectly tender, crisp skin, the leg was also cooked perfectly. Both sides - mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus were good. Had to take most of the duck home. Well worth a stop on your way to points north. Must be doing something right since 1964.

We shared the Pretzel and the fried pickles. Both were very good-but I will say the pretzel may have been the saltiest I've ever had and I bet if they gave them away they would make the lost revenue and then some back with increased drink sales...but having said that, we enjoyed it and love the accompanying beer cheese. The fried pickles were also very good and wouldn't hesitate to order them again. We LOVE the fried chicken sandwich here-so we ordered that again to split and split a basic cheese burger again. My mom was adventurous and ordered some kind of specialty burger and it was great! We all got the onion rings which are def what I recommend upgrading to personally-these are some of the best I've had and if I came solo I would get the chicken sandwich with onion rings. The pizzas do look solid but we had pizza already so that is another thing I would consider trying. One last note about the place, we visited this place in various states of business-the first being a Saturday and easily the busiest around 3ish. We went mid-week for lunch and that day it was slower but still had some folks in at around approx 2-3pm. Finally we came on Friday afternoon sometime after 3pm and left just before 4pm if I recall and it was fairly dead. I do think this place gets busy because it makes some good food and there is not a lot of other good options very close-there are 2 well reviewed on Yelp and one of them is another go-to for us...but if you like a good bar/roadhouse kind of vibe that makes good food I would def recommend you give it a shot!

What made the experience even more special was the hospitality. A Valentine's dinner that did not impress!…read more Valentine's has always been a very special holiday for me. My husband and I decided to spend the weekend in the Berkshires, which was lovely and quiet. I made reservations ahead of time for this highly rated wine bar and very close to where we were staying. First off, due to the previous weather/storms they had no street parking. But luckily we parked in a nearby lot. Upon arrival, the restaurant bar area was very nice and romantic. The server brought us to our table but I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance. I mean the bar area was a bit darker and the table that we were being seated at had a lot of light. Now, don't get me wrong, It was Valentine's day which screams romantic and there was no romantic vibe to this restaurant. After mentioning this to our server she did move us and turned down the lights a bit which was much better. Food/Drinks: The menu was not big at all which was nice. I ordered a dirty martini to start which needed more olive juice and my husband ordered a rum cocktail which he enjoyed. For starters, I ordered their Over Roasted Parsnip which was very good and filling. My husband had their Beet Salad which he said was excellent. For entrees, I had their Seared Duck Breast. I really enjoyed the caramel sauce but did not love the duck itself. My husband had the Oven Roasted Chicken Statler which was very dry he could barley eat it. Also, since this is a wine bar I will say the wines were nothing special which was also a bit disappointing. I wish they had something unique and special to offer especially being on a Valentine's Day. I feel this place may be more of a summer destination. Service: Service was excellent I will say. Our server was always asking how things were, checking on us and if we needed anything and asking about any additional drinks. etc. Also, the Manager came over to ask how everything was but he spefically looked at me. I think my husband would've mentioned his meal being dry if he looked at him as well but my husband could've spoken up too. We did say something to our server after she asked about the chicken dish, which they ended up taken off the bill which was very nice. Overall: I didn't love Alta Wine Bar my first time here, but I would come back in the spring or summer months when the weather is warm to try it again. Cheers~

Since we were driving from Cambridge to Egremont -- about three hours -- to celebrate a special occasion with friends who live nearby, we called to ask whether they could make an exception. The manager gladly did. A few hours before the reservation, however, the OWNER called and brusquely informed us that they do not take reservations for parties of four and that "maybe they could accommodate us," before launching into an unnecessary lecture about their 5+ policy -- essentially cancelling our reservation. Why do that to your customers? Unfortunately, it didn't stop there. When we arrived, he was again rude and dismissive, seating us at a tiny table in the corner of the bar that was clearly too small for dinner. Thankfully, the manager stepped in, rescued the evening, and moved us to the main dining room, where we ended up having a wonderful night with our friends. She also checked in throughout the evening to make sure our experience improved, and her professionalism genuinely turned things around. As for the food: we ordered the Smoked Fish Pate appetizer, the Grilled Salmon, and the Artichoke and Goat Cheese Ravioli. The pate was exceptional -- layered, balanced, and memorable. The salmon was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and refreshingly not buried under heavy marinades. The ravioli was also excellent. Dessert was a rich chocolate cake that capped off an otherwise delightful meal. The decor, service, and overall comfort were all A+. This easily could have been a five-star evening, but the owner's unjustified hostility convinced me that this is not a place I would return to.

Our family of 8 skied a few days after Christmas, and after we ordered our lunch, the wait for our (very basic!) order was very long (at least 25-30 minutes). Then when the food finally started being delivered, it arrived in "shifts" so that half our group ended up finishing their lunches before the other half had even received their orders. (First the chili in bread bowls was delivered, then 5 minutes later the burger orders were delivered, then 5 minutes after that, the deep-fried items arrived, etc...) We understand that off-season staffing in the Berkshires is a challenge, but it was disappointing not to be able to share lunch with each other at the same time, and the slow-down in everyone being able to eat delayed our return to the slopes as we'd wished. The food was more than adequate for what it is, and the upstairs space & view of the mountain are beautiful as always, but the service needs work.

We re-visited the restaurant recently for our 40th wedding anniversary, and I think it's only fitting to offer a view on what is best described as a bastion of excellence and gracious dining in Manchester village, Vermont. Situated in a refurbished former library building, the Silver Fork's setting, decor, and dining experience is indeed textbook flawless. Inside the upscale eatery evokes mid-century Moderne, a setting for the once popular Madmen TV period drama series; tony, chic, but hardly ostentatious and overbearing. On the contrary the high ceilings, lighting and space combine to offer that frozen glimpse of earlier elegance but alongside very contemporary culinary offerings. Table spacing accentuates a good use of space. We started with a "Rubies are Forever" Pomegranate cocktail with Pomegranate boba. The menu is large but not overbearing; a good mix of meats, legumes and fish. Equally the starters are enticing. French Onion soup is amazing but on this occasion we both chose the Duck egg roll with a special peanut sauce. Simply extraordinary and with generous duck portions. For an entree, my wife chose Mahi Mahi Fish, beautifully prepared over plantain. Despite being tempted by a brisket with horseradish sauce, the evening special, I chose the Ratatouille. Why? Prepared properly, this is often hard to find. The Chef's presentation of the southern French staple, was beautifully interpreted, accompanied with some goat cheese. We accompanied our meal with a glasses of red wine. For desert we shared the incomparable Caribbean Bread Pudding which is always a hit here. Allow to me to say our server Lynn showed a genuine experience both in the menu and wine list along with a pleasant disposition. We equally had the opportunity to chat with Melody the co-owner who, along with her husband Chef Mark, described their culinary Odyssey before coming to Vermont years ago to establish Silver Fork. Silver Fork presents a genuine chef-prepared culinary experience both in terms of cuisine as well as ambiance and flawless service. We'll be back!
