Mariposa was definitely a vibe for brunch, the ambiance is there and there was a live band playing music. We only got to enjoy for about 30 min as our reservations were right at 2pm but it was perf. The food was so delicious, I personally enjoyed the cucumber tomato salad a little too much and I should have ordered one to go. The lamb burger was nice and juicy, the fries were perfectly fried. Maybe I was just hungry but it all was a hit! Our waitress Caitlin was cool with us sitting and chatting but I could tell she was ready for us to cash out lol. I can't wait till the construction is done to the building so you can thoroughly enjoy the view but other than that, I'll be back. I would love to try their dinner soon! read more

I went to mariposa for my birthday last night with my family... and had such a horrible experience. My server was a tall guy with glasses from Spain (can't remember his name). He was extremely overly attentive to all the tables around us and was very neglectful to our table. He was extremely dismissive, took forever to bring us waters, refills etc, but made sure the other tables around us got what they needed. My father had to get up several times to try to get some assistance. He even got up to go get our drinks at one point (it was that bad). And even got up to remove all of the dirty dishes that were covering our table. My father, who is a pastor was trying to make simple conversation with the server and his response to everything was "good for you" as he continued to be extremely dismissive. I finally couldn't take it anymore and was ready to leave. My father asked him directly for the check, he went to get it, came to the table, walked directly past my father, and placed it right in front of my sister.(mind you my father was the only man at the table and told him at the beginning that he was bringing us to dinner to celebrate our birthday). It was such a classless thing to do! We were also double charged for an item...but at that point we were so ready to leave we didn't even care to have him update it!!! The tab was only $291 but i seriously would have been happy spending that elsewhere after my experience. After it all.. my father being who he is said "I'm still going to bless him".. gave him an $100 tip and told him God bless you. When he saw the tip...he came running back to the table ..shook my dad's hand...thanked him...and begin to try to attend to us in those last moments! He then all of a sudden had so much to tell us about the restaurant, what days to come back, did we need any boxes ect! (It was the first time all night that he seemed interested in having a conversation with us....... The restaurant is beautiful....but I seriously will never return, nor take my family back to this place! I have been treated better at Chick-fil-A ...and probably would have preferred it ..had I known we would be treated so horribly for my birthday. Overall a great dinner spot. We came on a Wednesday and planned to check out an exhibit at the Mint after but didn't have enough time for that. Service was good but some things did take longer than anticipated so plan extra time for that. As others have noted the couch seating areas looked a bit odd. I would not have been comfortable eating on one of those. We got the Street Corn Fritters that were basically very good fancy hush puppies. Next was the Olive Focaccia and Tuna Crudo. The tuna was the fantastic. Squash Casserole was good but the fish camp was underwhelming. We liked the oysters but the shrimp was only ok. The fish itself was bland. We topped it off with the flaming sticky toffee pudding and it was great. Cocktails were fun and tasty. The place was pretty busy for a mid week dinner so definitely get reservations. read more

Mariposa has been on my list to try for a while and I'm so disappointed I waited so long to get there. The decor and ambiance is wonderful! Our server was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable about food allergies and wine, funny and helpful! The manager was also wonderful. Now, the food, was amazing! I try octopus at every restaurant that otters it and this was my favorite octopus dish I've ever tried. We visited Mariposa for lunch today. We had enjoyed the prior restaurant Halcyon operated by the same owners in this same location. The variety of lunch entrees was diverse offering patrons many choices. My husband has the Spicy Pork Belly Bowl which he enjoyed very much. I had the fish and chips which were good but the tartar sauce was the highlight of my dish. Our server Erica was helpful and attentive. I didn't provide a 5 star rating due to the seating format. While the appearance of the seating concept is pleasing to the eye the sofas used as table seating and the tables themselves were not comfortable. When Halcyon occupied the space the tables were so unique having been made, or so I was told, from old growth trees from Queens Road. After the trees fell they were made into table tops. The seating at those tables were comfortable upholstered chairs. Sometimes striking interior design is more esthetically pleasing than functional. We would return to Mariposa but I think we would consider sitting at the bar to ensure a more comfortable experience. Perhaps if you're simply meeting friends for a drink and don't mind sharing a sofa with others you don't know you may find this more appealing than we did. read more

Fairly typical, semi-classy restaurant. I was not particularly impressed by the drinks. Of the 3 we ordered, the Pinga was likely the best. The Bourbon Royalty was on the verge of being too sweet and the Aix en Provence didn't have much lavender flavor (they put a sprig of lavender in the drink, which does add lavender aroma) The Focaccia was ok (the Focaccia at Indaco is notably better). The olive tapenade was a nice complement. The Tandoori Spiced Cauliflower was surprisingly bland. It was cooked well, but didn't have much flavor. The Tagine was the best thing we ordered. It was savory and filling. The flavors were not particularly notable, but it felt like comfort food and seemed healthy. read more

Every museum should take note of this concept because having an amazing restaurant attached to a museum is just wonderful. The restaurant itself is an art museum all on it's own, it's that pretty. It also has large windows overlooking the streets of uptown which provides great people watching. Service was wonderful and had a very upscale feel. Brunch cocktails were good and I was happy to see that they had good high quality tea if you weren't wanting a cocktail. My friends and I all enjoyed the visit and out entrees. This was my first time visiting this place. It came recommended as one of the nicer places to go eat and my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary so it was a great fit! They had live Jazz playing and my wife loves the saxophone so that was a plus! They had really nice comfortable couches for lounging around while you ate. We both enjoyed our drinks as they were not too strong but just the right amount of alcohol. I had the shrimp and grits which overall was tasty but the grits were a little runny but because of the taste I'm not really upset. My wife had the pork belly which was also really good. I've never felt the need to make a review about a business so this is definitely a first. To begin with we waited for about an hour and some change for our food to come out, which is pretty regular for a restaurant. There were about 2 other people there besides me and the 2 other people I was with. It shouldn't have taken that long. Secondly, the food was not it! My boyfriend's dish had rice that was basically almost the consistency of pudding. My mother in laws dish had fish and the fish had the strongest smell of chlorine. The restaurant was over all really cute but they definitely lack attention to the small stuff. The table we got sat at, two cups had lipstick on them. Mariposa was an expected surprise! One very artistic dining experience and we loved every minute. A perfect dinner spot to book for a date night (and even a better date night experience if you head to the Mint museum before hand, which is what we did). The restaurant has a very artsy feel and the decor is beautiful. And from the drinks all the way to dessert it was beyond excellent. We tried their Aix en Provence and Bourbon Royalty for cocktails to start. We then placed our dinner order, which consisted of 2 small plates, 2 large plates, and 1 side (all shareable and the order was perfect for 2 people). For dinner we tried the Salmon Rillettes, Tuna Crudo, Gullah Paella, Chipotle-Crusted Short Ribs (to die for!!!), and Tandoori Spiced Cauliflower. The only thing we probably will change up next time is the side, everything else was outstanding! And the dessert was a white chocolate mousse and raspberry chef creation shaped like a mushroom, AMAZING! Overall great experience. I will note that their couches though sink in a little too much for me, I had to ask for an extra pillow to put behind my back lol (but that was my only complaint. I love Mariposa and try to go every time I am back in Charlotte. I love the menu, I love the space, and after hearing about their local sourcing of at least some of their ingredients I love their practices. I will admit I am always tickled when I see corn fritters on a menu and must try them, but these are a staple for me at Mariposa because they are truly delicious. The salmon rillettes are another must-order for me, the nuance of flavor in the salmon was an delightful, unexpected surprise the first time I had this dish. One final surprise of my first meal at Mariposa was the size and decadence of the desserts and I would absolutely recommend the cheesecake to anyone. This restaurant is a hidden gem located in the Mint Museum. I was meeting friends that are visiting from out of town and we decided to grab a late lunch after our museum tour. There was a jazz band playing serenading the lobby which greeted you before you walked in. The host was very nice and we were escorted to our table without any wait time. Our server was O'neal. He was everything. O'neal gave us time to review the menu as well as pointed out popular drinks on the menu. I didn't have to to over indulge because I had other engagements scheduled. I ordered Tuna Crudo and my friends ordered Shrimp and grits as well as a lamb burger. My drink was very light and refreshing. The tuna was delicious with a hint of spicy. I can only imagine that the shrimp and grits and Lamburger was tasty because everyone was quiet once their food arrived. This restaurant is very beautiful the ambience is chill and sexy. Everyone is very attentive from our own server to assume management and even food runners. The food was also very good. Some is more of an acquired taste, and others were just fantastic all around. My favorite items were the short ribs they were cooked perfectly and the pork belly wraps were also fantastic. But my all-time favorite thing on the menu that I ate was the squash casserole. The restaurant conveniently takes reservations through open table. My friend made reservations with ease. Once we arrived we were greeted and immediately seated. The food was super fresh and amazing.
