It's a shame that they're closing soon, and it's also a shame that I didn't decide to come check out this place until when I found out about their closing! At least, I got to try their famous complimentary soufflé bread and their whipped guava butter. Also got to try their chilled crab salad which was super delicious! I ate the whole thing quick. Got to try my friend's laksa and the taste was good too! Our server was very friendly and answered a lot of our questions. The ambiance was amazing too. We were seated outside with the beautiful ocean view. I hope to try a few more dishes here before they're gone for good.
Sad to report that after two consecutive visits to Mariposa on 3/19/26 and 3/20/26, the food quality and some of its services have spiraled down. To be fair, media outlets have reported that Mariposa together with Neiman Marcus will close soon. I am unaware of any specific date of closure. We asked our servers and they informed us that they were not given a date yet. We wanted to have our farewell lunches here and my friend and family decided on back to back dates. I was eager to enjoy another dining experience at Mariposa. I have fond memories of enjoying meals with my late mom and friends at Mariposa. While service on 3/19/26 was excellent and just like what I remember in the past, service on 3/20/26, fell below as it appeared the restaurant was understaffed. There were issues with our meals on both dates. For the first time on 3/19/26 and then on 3/20/26, we were served burnt popovers. The guava butter didn't have its usual flavor as well. The Wagyu burger I ordered to be cooked medium was burnt and definitely well-well done. It was difficult to eat and I couldn't finish it. The side salad was delicious. The side of fries were perfectly seasoned and tasty. The second day, I only ordered the seasoned fries. Cooked perfectly, however, the seasoning was on the heavy side. My family's meals of the scallops with polenta and crab pasta were both underwhelming. Both were bland and without much flavor. The crab pasta had an unexpected red chili pepper after taste. No one finished their meals. I was offered tastes of each dish. The second day, a family member noticed that the cloth napkin she was provided was torn all the way down on the side seam. Our popover server for the second day, informed us that all the popovers that day were coming out dark brown. This is the first time I chose not to have any more popovers after trying the first one! I guess things must be difficult at this time. I wonder if all the chefs have secured jobs elsewhere. Just be forewarned that your experience here may not be the same as before.
It is unfortunate the restaurant is closing (end of May along with the retail store). So normally I wouldn't go to a restaurant that is about to close because I know the space will be crowded and staffing and resources will be strained. But my friend had made a reservation a month ago, invited me to join at the last minute, we went for dinner last night. We arrived a little early for our reservation. Out front, there was plenty of parking. Inside, the space was clean, the ambiance was lovely, and a live musician was performing. We were seated outside on the lanai and enjoyed the view at twilight. The weather was perfect especially considering there could've been a full storm. The service we received throughout the evening from our waiter and the other staff who served and greeted us was all top-notch. Kudos to their professionalism, each one appearing fresh as daisy and treating us kindly, pleasantly, and patiently even though our seating was at closing time and the restaurant was still quite busy. I stared with a pineapple cocktail which I enjoyed for its refreshing sweetness. For dinner, I had the spinach salad and substituted a portion of salmon for the standard pipikaula. It was a meal-sized portion, I enjoyed the quality and balance of ingredients, the excellent vinaigrette, and the delicious creaminess of the goat cheese. If you've never been to Mariposa or it's been a long while, I wouldn't recommend going now, it's just not going to be the same. Instead, go to a newly opened restaurant, they need your business. But if you are nostalgic for Mariposa, it may be worth trying to go one last time although my understanding is they are not taking reservations, and I don't know if they are even taking walk-ins although the staff are super nice so maybe they will seat you if you ask nicely and explain why you want to eat there.
So sad to hear one of my favorite restaurants Mariposa will be closing end of May. I have to go few more times before they're closing. Made reservation on Sunday brunch. Requested outdoor seating. Restaurant look very clean and bright. Once we sat down, our server Kyle came to greet us. Overall service was excellent. 1. Consommé - alway my favorite. Free refill. 2. Bread with strawberry butter - the bread was very airy and crispy, the strawberry butter was just right, not over sweetened. 3. Laksa curry - the best laksa on the island, lots of ingredients included clams, ahi filet, prawns, eggplants, scallops. It came with rice. Delicious. 4. Crab pasta - the portion was big with lots of crab meat. The sauce was very creamy. Delicious. 5. Wagyu Cheeseburger - the party was juicy and cooked perfectly. The fries were so crunchy and flavorful. They also included salad as well. 6. Clam chowder - very creamy and delicious. Mariposa will be missed. Hopefully they'll open a new one at other location.
I heard Neiman Marcus was closing so I took it as an opportunity to eat at their associated restaurant, Mariposa! It's located on the 3rd floor. You can either enter from inside the mall or from the parking structure and take an elevator up. The interior was so cute, I loved the ceiling fans and the balcony views of the beach. We started with complimentary bread and butter. The bread was fluffy and perfectly flaky, but the star was the butter. It had a hint of sweetness! Our main entrees were the Chicken Paillard Milanese & Shrimp Puttanesca. The chicken was very crispy & juicy, the arugula salad added a nice fresh component, and the savory tomato sauce brought it all together. As for the pasta, the noodles were cooked perfectly and the shrimps were HUGE. Both very good portions to share. For dessert they gave us a cookie box for my friend's birthday. I'm a sucker for warm chocolate chip cookies and these definitely hit the spot. I need someone to leak their recipe right now!!!
Mariposa is a lovely restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoors because it was kinda windy. Their service is top notch! Waters were constantly filled, the complimentary popovers were delicious and our sever was very friendly. I had the roast beef sandwich with fries for an additional $5. The roast beef was okay, nothing really spectacular about it, kinda on the bland side but the arugula, tomatoes, cheese and chimichurri added flavor to the sandwich. It's a pricey restaurant, about $30-40 a head for lunch. I don't know if they have a dinner menu. It was a nice place to reconnect with good friends. I would definitely go again!
Attended the Neiman Marcus Mariposa Christmas breakfast. It was really cute and featured all of the well-known Christmas songs. Dancing was lively. The server was courteous and quick to bring me coffee that I needed since it was a morning event on Saturday. A delicious French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and pastry breakfast was served. I was placed in the first row and really felt the Christmas spirit. Usually the Mariposa events sell out fast and was glad to be in the audience.
Mariposa is a great spot for a business lunch or a relaxed professional meeting. The open-air atmosphere captures the Hawaiʻi breeze beautifully and offers a lovely view of Ala Moana Beach Park, creating a calm yet upscale setting. The food is consistently excellent. They start with their signature popover--my personal favorite--which I enjoyed so much this time that I completely forgot to take a photo. On this visit, I ordered the pork chop, while my colleague had the crab pasta. Both dishes were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, with great balance and flavor. Service is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and professional, making the overall experience seamless and enjoyable. Highly recommended for business lunches, client meetings, or anytime you want dependable food and great ambiance.
Looking for a place with great customer service, good food and a view? Then checkout Mariposa located in Neiman Marcus at the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It's not a "cheap eat" place but worth it if service, food and ambiance matters to you. You start off with complimentary consomme and popovers with whipped strawberry butter. We had the Laksa Curry, Crab Pasta and Braised Beef with Polenta. Everything was good except for the Polenta. We pushed ourselves to have dessert-Acai Parfait and a Lilikoi dessert (sorry, forgot the name). Plantation iced tea and Cafe Mocha were good choices for a lunch meal. Pro tip: Ask to sit on the patio next to the railing if possible. Great view of Ala Moana Beach park. Love that they put the shade down so it doesn't feel like you're eating in the sun.
Found out mariposa is closing and had to make sure to get the popover one more time! Made reservations online and sat outside on the balcony. Despite the weather the view was super nice and my boyfriend and I had a nice dinner. Unfortunately the night we went there was no fish of the day and their blender was down so it changed our original planned orders. I ended up ordering the penne and my boyfriend had the wagyu burger. We also had the corn chowder and pork with scallops as a starter. Food and service were all great! Pasta was slightly on the spicy side but flavored well. We went on a Thursday night so it was their Sunset menu but we plan to go again for their full lunch menu before they close.
Mariposa has always been a favorite place to meet up with friends and business contacts over the years. I feel bad to give my last experience only 3 stars and as I know the F&B industry in the islands are having a difficult time, particularly with labor shortages. We were celebrating some birthdays with a small group of 10 for dinner. Our table was ready and set up and our server was pleasant and quick to greet us and take our order. First, I was very disappointed with the limited menu that was offered. Some of the great salmon dishes were not offered and the server said it was due to the limited labor they had. Some of us had to really order something we did not really feel like eating. Knowing that they would not be featuring some of my favorite items at times would discourage me from returning soon. Second, one of our party members had to ask for a beverage 3 times and it was only after we flagged down the server and "joked" with him if we had to "beg" to get a drink. Again, he was very pleasant and helpful so we did not want to outright complain. Overall the food was well prepared and good although it did take long for to get everyone served. It definitely was not the overall experience I had previously.
I took my hubby here for his birthday in November. I loved it so much that we came for Valentine's Day. Luckily, we had reservations for lunch as they were packed solid. I wanted to do dinner, but they had a special pre fixe menu that didn't offer the laksa curry that I wanted. I could only get it during lunch, so here we are. The popovers with the strawberry butter are just divine. I had two, lol. We shared a bowl of the corn chowder $11 and it was delicious. I got the seafood laksa curry $38 and the hubby got the wagyu cheeseburger $24 with fries $5. The curry was great as usual. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't use the big manila clams like last time and used the small clams instead. The hubby said that the burger was just ok. He actually didn't finish it. The service was top notch as always. You can't go wrong dining here. read more

The service and staff are always super friendly and welcoming. A smile really goes a long way and they know that here. From the great views to the nice decor, this place is worth it. The food was simple but elegant. I got the wagyu cheeseburger and the furikake fries. It was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful and juicy. While visiting Hawaii my wife and I decided to try this place based on all the previous suggestions and the views. Upon walking in we were immediately greeted and told us it would be a short wait and it was. The decor was beautiful and there was a live musician playing the acoustic guitar on the side which gave the place a very relaxing vibe. We were lucky enough to get a balcony table. I'd suggest this so you can have a spectacular view of the ocean and the sunset. My wife and enjoyed the warm bread brought to the table served with this delicious strawberry butter. It wasn't very heavy either. The drinks were really good as well. Our server (actually all of them) Tony was extremely good. He came and checked on us and made sure everything was good with us. I got there before my friend, so I ordered a Ceaser salad first. It came out promptly and I started eating it because I was hungry. My friend came and she ordered the Seafood Curry. I ordered the Smash Burger with fries and a salad. My burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were crisp and delicious. The salad was also good. I tried some of my friend's Thai curry and a shrimp, they were delicious, too. Our server, Tony, was very attentive and our water was always filled by him or the other staff. My friend wanted a mocha and Tony came back with a "test" mocha to make sure it was what she wanted. Then he went and got the exact style she wanted. We sat outside and had a lovely view. Girls after Christmas Luncheon. Reservations made on Open table so convenient. Drove up the Ramp on the Ocean side thats by Mortons, drove to the right past entrance for Neiman Marcus and parked right in front of the elevator that will take you right up to mariposa. Gorgeous views on the patio, delicious pop over. Prices are a little more expensive, but the view and ambiance are great for girls lunch or a date. I had the Chicken Milanese, pretty delicious. My other friends ordered the beet salad and ahi salad. Both looked appetizing and large portioned. Service was a little slow but the guys refilling water were really prompt. Mariposa never fails. Sunday lunch was perfect. I love the relaxed feel overlooking Ala Moana beach. Service attentive and efficient. Of course the usual popover with Strawberry butter along with a delicious savory cup of Consommé was served first. I tell you this is so comforting. Best part? You can have more popovers if you want! Ordered the Waygu Cheeseburger and fries and the seafood Laksa curry. Of course since we're brunching cocktails are a must. Cheeseburger flavorful and nice portions. Laksa curry had a nice spiciness along with prawns, scallops, clams and salmon. Mixed with julienned veggies and a nice broth. Dessert saved for next time. read more

I love the lunch at Mariposa because the service is great, the view of Ala Moana Beach is awesome, and they served warm popovers! I think the popovers are always a treat and are devoured quickly upon receiving one. Hence no pictures of the huge delight. It has been a while since I went for lunch and there were some definite hits and a few missteps. The 6 of us went to celebrate my brother's birthday which I mentioned on my Open Table reservation, but nothing was mentioned when we checked in, and I figured we would get at least a "Happy Birthday," when we were seated, but nope. The menu selections looked great and a couple of us got the Crab Pasta which was delicious and filled with crab. The rest of us got handheld items of Wagyu Cheeseburgers, a roast beef sandwich and a Lobster sandwich. The lobster sandwich was great served with avocado, but the other two sandwiches were a little underwhelming. We asked for the burgers to be medium cooked and both were more than well cooked and the roast beef sandwich was OK. Just stick with the entrees and you will be fine. Desserts had a nice selection to choose from. Check out the pictures of the desserts we chose. Parking is ample if you can make your way through the maze of the upper parking lot of Ala Moana, and a separate elevator on the oceanside of Neiman Marcus takes you right into the restaurant. Extreme disappointment. That's the only way I can describe my dinner experience from last night.... Service was slow and the food was subpar. We definitely should've said something. In the end, we decided we will never go there again for dinner. Ordered the Wagyu burger with french fries....Cooked well done and hard as a rock. The French fries had obviously been sitting in the back for a while because they were hard too and not crispy or fresh. We also had the spicy chicken sandwich which was tasteless. The salad was super tiny. It's just become so incredibly hard to pay premium prices and get bad food. We had to ask for the popover bread (they forgot to bring it). It's half the size it used to be. With skyrocketing costs, why is it that we are subjected to bad food on top of having to pay a lot..... at least this place doesn't yet have a kitchen fee! read more

Perhaps it was a bad day because I remember the service being better in the past. My party was seated against the windowed wall and the sun was quite hot. They also did not listen to the request to split the check. On top of that, we needed to ask for another pop over and one of the people had their order forgotten. Occasionally we inquired about the menu, but the staff would just walk away. The food was so-so. Their dessert and soup were wonderful, but the main dish I had that comprised of chicken and couscous fell flat. Very little couscous and the tomato sauce that went with it was overpowering. It wasn't offensive, but it was just not worth ordering again. read more

Some things never change...I had forgotten what a gem of a spot this is! Swung by here on a whim my last trip back home late summer and have to give it a late shout out. The Sunset Menu now covers all of 'dinner' time here. I think they in turn reduced their hours...so come early! We arrived as soon as they opened and it was perfect. The view, the leads up to sunset hour. The comfortable seating, the solid service. My parents are very particular but even they admitted it was one of the highlights of my trip. Everything we ordered was divine (for a party of 3, our server helped steer us int he right direction with the 'musts': *Corn Chowder *Lobster Roll *Garlic Chicken Sliders *Fries *Macadamia Nut Tart *Cocktails: Sparkling Pineapple martini and Mango Mint Colada Of course accompanied by the famous warm popovers, solid service, and just an overall VIBE. Having lunch with my hubby. We love to do our date over here. Just make reservations on OpenTable. We love all the food options over there. Why I like coming here because they don't rushed you. You get to enjoy your food and do some catching up with friends and family. The view is the plus. Don't forget on Friday they offer fireworks. Pretty nice there. My favorite is the scallops and Louis salad. Don't forget to try the pop bread and order plantations ice tea. They also do parties here. On 2020 November. Really enjoyed lunch here We were spending an anniversary date here and we got the pork chop and the seafood pasta. Both were delightful, but the pork chop was extra special. This is our go-to spot for work parties and functions. The staff is so friendly and accommodating! We usually call ahead of time to make a reservation and get everyone's food orders. We usually have everyone Venmo one person so at the end of the party only one person is having to pay and they don't need to split the check. I'm not sure if these are standard selections, but we usually choose the Salmon Ochazuke and Kiawe Smoked Pork Chops and our entree selections. Your meal comes with Mariposa's signature Popover with Strawberry Jam and Chicken Broth as your starter, then your entree selection. We have come here for multiple different occasions and the food is always on point! If you sit by the window you have a beautiful view of Ala Moana beach park! read more

Since it was a state holiday my brother wanted to try this restaurant. He said he never been there. Me and my husband been here before we became yelpers. So 1st off we needed to check in the front podium even though we enter through the back elevator. And Even though they had a podium to check guests in also. I made reservations for 11:15am and the hostess said okay somebody will be with you. We waited about 5 mins or so before we got seated. Sat outside good thing it wasn't humid or hot yet. They came with menus, water and their famous popover with flavored butter. I ordered crab and shrimp Louie, my hubby ordered lobster club, and my brother had their wagyu hamburger sandwich with reg fries. The portion was enough for me the salad, the lobster club was good. He prefer just plain lobster salad with only mayo and butter. The bacon in the sandwich was good tho he didn't care for the red bell peppers in the sandwich. My brother said he's burger was good. He was amazed on how good the popover was. 1st time he tried um. My salad was very good enough crab, shrimp, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, boil eggs, avocado. The only thing I wish it was 1000 island dressing. I know it homemade but I'm not a 1000 island dressing person. I've been to Mariposa many times throughout the years mostly with friends, co-workers, for lunch gatherings, retirement celebration, baby shower, and birthdays but with the other half maybe a total of 3 times. Our work schedule does not work out and sometimes I feel bad if I dine there without him. This Mariposa review is for my most recent visit, my lunch date with the other half. As I was looking back at Facebook memory photos of our last Mariposa lunch, which was close to 10 years ago, I text the other half and we set a date so we could both request off, officially its a date! hehe. I called to make reservations on the day of our lunch date and luckily we got a last minute reservation. I remembered a spontaneous visit to Mariposa, the way for table was over hour which we couldn't wait. They close for lunch so last call is close to after 2:30 pm. Our favorite table is outdoor, love the outdoor view Ala Moana Beach. It could get hot but it was fine by me. The inside seems more loud and has more food traffic. My favorite and I am sure everyone's favorite is the Popover! & I can eat more than one! I really need a popover fix once in a while. This is the one reason I miss Mariposa so much. Besides the popover, I always. Always order the lobster LBT sandwich, ( @marketprice) and corn chowder. I always want to try the other menu items but I can't give up on the lobster BLT sandwich. * lobster sandwich is not available during Sunset hour & dinner. I saw an Instagram post for the pork chops which I really want to give it a try next time, I will have to do a back to back visit, hehe. During this recent lunch date, We got our usual order: corn chowder, lobster BLT, macadamia pie and their signature plantation iced tea. The corn chowder is tasty and they use Kahuku corn. The BLT, loved how serve the lobster chilled with the good stuff, bacon, avocado, roasted pepper, on a sweet bread. Biting in to that sandwich was OMG, wow! I love the plain fries! First time we tried the macadamia nut pie and brought back memories of Angelo Pietro days. Loved the crispy crust and macadamia nut, love that it wasn't as sweet. I really enjoyed the plantation iced tea, don't forget to order it with a shot of vodka on the side. My favorite Mai Tai drink! Besides pigging out on the popovers & our meal, We were super stuffed! The wait service and waiter was just great, before he closed our bill and said goodbye, he mentioned "I hope to see you back sooner, not another 10 years" All in all, I always LOVED my dining experience here, definitely can't wait to be back again! Went here for a birthday lunch. Was really busy so definitely recommend making a booking in advance. Live music was great, not so loud that you couldn't hold conversations. Food really good, the crab pasta was tasty and I want to go back to try the burger that my friend said was amazing. Only downside was our server was a little slow and forgetful. My friend did not receive her soup starter and I did not get my espresso at the end. The soup had to be taken off the bill but the espresso apparently never existed! Was given a complimentary slice of cake to celebrate my birthday which was nice and probably will be back for the burger! read more

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Been super busy with work and school and never really had time to spend with my family and friends. I had a lunch break that day for 30 mins, the server Raymond was an exceptional server always double or triple checking on our table making sure we were receiving our food in a timely manner and if the food tastes great! The food was amazing, it's always perfect at Mariposa! The bread is phenomenal and the soup was perfect temperature. The burger was a perfect medium and had a good bite to it with a refreshing salad on the side. Crab pasta was so delicious with real crab meat and pasta cooked to perfection! The outdoor vibes was definitely the vibe and gave a perfect Hawaii atmosphere! On for a beautiful date? Take her out here! read more

My girlfriend and I took our other girlfriend here for her birthday. It was the birthday girl's first time to Mariposa and she was excited and hungry! Let me tell you the lunch started out poorly, but the manager Bruce did make up for it and turned it around! Firstly, my girlfriend and my drinks came out first and the birthday girl's did not. Our meals came out but birthday girl's did not. When it did it was wrong then took a long time. I had the Vietnamese, rare beef salad. My girlfriend had the salmon salad, and birthday girl had the duck special. We all did like our meals. Manager Bruce comped birthday girl's meal and gave us complementary desserts. We still like the venue, but uncertain how consistent the service is. Manager Bruce was great and can only do so much. Ultimately, it's always a team effort. read more

I come here once a year on vacation and is always a treat to eat there. As a solo diner the staff was very accommodating. I ordered a Mai Tai and Spaghetti with lobster in a tomato based sauce. Server let me know the sauce was on the spicy side which I appreciated. I'm not a spice person so the server asked the chef to make it without spice. Entree came out beautifully and was delicious! The signature Pop Over with Strawberry butter was always a welcome treat! The only disappointment was Parmesan cheese was not offered with my pasta and the Consommé was a no show. Bummer! Been here before but first time since covid. The menu has changed completely and the prices have gone up. I used to get their pasta with goat cheese all the time but now it's not there. The popovers are consistently delicious though with their strawberry fluffly butter. The restaurant has indoor and Lana is seating facing the ocean. I ordered the lobster club and didn't know it didn't come with fries but it was delicious! Definitely a cute place to come with friends for lunch or brunch! Tif you're lucky you can get a beautiful view of the beach as well! Service was prompt when we had 15 people. We preordered our food so it came out quick! Another amazing meal here. The service is great, food amazing and view is the best in town. We had the braised duck and Vietnamese salad. Their signature chicken broth "tea" is great as a starter. Prior to Covid, I would conduct business lunches at least once a month at Mariposa. My clients liked their salads, popover and selection. This was my first time back, since Covid began four years ago and very little has changed. Like all restaurants, prices have gone up and I noticed that they're not as busy as they used to be with a line at the door. We decided to share the crab pasta and the salmon ochasuke. Our waiter was very nice and had the kitchen split it and placed them in separate plates. He asked us if we were celebrating anything and provided a complementary slice of their macadamia pie for my guest's birthday. As always, service was excellent, and the food was good. You now have a lot of choices at Ala Moana. Mariposa will be on the pricier side. No their menu changes frequently. The only online menu that is accurate is on the Neiman Marcus website

I don't believe Mariposa serves it. I think it's the Espresso Bar on floor 1. It used to be at the Mermaid Bar which is closed.
Is Uni Pasta still serving?
The Uni Pasta was discontinued in a menu change. It is replaced by a Crab Pasta with Lobster Tomato Sauce

The last time I checked, they're not open for dinner. I am waiting for them to re-open for dinner because it's a great place for business dinners.

Park in Shopping Center second level and enter through Neiman Marcus.

So far, up to $40!

They are not pet friendly. Only ADA service animals are allowed (Emotional support is not allowed!)

Yes! They do daily 2:00p.m. ~4:00p.m, $35 per person. You can make reservation by phone or open table.

no, no smoking. I know of only one place that still allows smoking and it is in restaurant row...the row bar

They no longer have happy hour after reopening from COVID. Their sunset lounge menu is an early dinner menu on Friday and Saturday nights, 5pm-7:30pm
