Overall, this was a fine stay, but probably wouldn't stay here again. The location is definitely a plus--convenient and easy to get around, which made exploring the area simple. That said, the property itself felt unmaintained. The building shows its age, with noticeable dings and stains on the walls and floors. It also made it a little unclear how clean everything really was. One of the bigger letdowns was the "complimentary breakfast." It was advertised as an amenity, but in reality, it was just bananas and cereal with milk--not quite what we were expecting. It wasn't a terrible stay, but with a few improvements, it could be much better. read more

We stayed in a king fireplace suite on the 2nd floor (there is an elevator).nice towels and sheets two rooms and two tv lots of fun The first room she showed us was dreadful on the street and falling apart. We paid but more and were satisfied. Problems -no fan in bathroom so things are rusted and floor edges rotting. Faucets are rickety. Heater noisy as heck so solved that by turning it off for sleep. Staff were nice and helpful when we had questions. Patking was easy and free. The wifi kept kicking me off though. The room with 2 queens was reasonably priced and came with a little breakfast available until 9:30. The breakfast had options: cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, bagels, toast,coffee and juice. Wasn't bad. The pool was warm and around 4 1/2 feet deep. It was too cold outside to go in unfortunately. The room was pretty clean, but the shower probably needs a good scrub. Definitely will be back. We came back from a longggggg road trip and decided to go to the pool that had a nice WORKING hot tub to relax our aching muscles because we are professional athletes. Josue was the attending receptionist who helped us multiple times especially when we got locked out of our room and he was able to help without hesitation and no judgement. Our king suite was nice. Came with an electric fireplace, small frig, microwave. Bed comfy but no comforter provided yet we didn't really need one with the fireplace keeping the room nice and cozy. No toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion) provided but did come with shampoo, conditioner, body wash. Clean room. Housekeeping upon request. Not walking distance from Aquarium or downtown shops and eateries but would recommend if you have a car. Free parking provided. read more

Atrocious I say! ATROCIOUS! Horrible. We booked for 1 night and didn't even stay; it was not worth it. We left, did not care for to even fight for a refund, due to it being non refundable anyways (booked thru a third party, not on their website). As soon as we got there, we already got a bad vibe. But we booked it so we tried to pull thru. The room we were assigned to was the very last room in the hall. There was no cell service NOR was able to connect to the WiFi that they provided. The room was mostly clean, but very old and worn out. The chairs in the room were NOT clean though, as the "leather" was chipping, and the seat themselves were dusty! The bed seemed okay, clean enough, but was firm, yet bouncy. I don't think I'd be able to sleep on it well. The room we had also had a "patio" but was pitch black & near the sidewalk outside, and seemed like anyone could just hop on over and try to get into our room; mind you, we have a baby with us, so everything's already sketchy and not feeling clean nor safe for us. After walking around a bit more around the room, I found a birds feather on the floor close to the bed. How it got there? Not sure, but didn't seem like they even cleaned the room enough to even see it on the floor either, or at least cared to check the room. Walking around a bit more, the jacuzzi itself seemed very old and worn out, and didn't seem clean enough to put our bodies in. The light fixture in the bathroom is rusty. The headboard is scratched up and old and worn out. The stairs to the jacuzzi doesn't even look safe to walk on. And essentially anything metal in the room was rusty, like the door hinges and would get onto the door frame, as well. This place seems nice in the pictures, but it deceives you. Depending on the night & what room you choose, you might pay $200+ and you would get this room. On a different night, this same room could still be $170+ (I would know because I rescheduled my original booking and was $212 but went down to $170). The whole vibe of the place, room & rest of the inn included, was what you would see in a movie where people do the nasty then leave, or even something horrific. As I had stated earlier, we didn't even stay the night as planned. We left. We were not having it. So when I checked out with the lady at the front desk, she did not even question why I checked in & then checked right out 40 minutes later. She seemed to be used to it & just said "alright, have a good night". As I had also stated, I wasn't going to try to get a refund, knowing that the room booking was non refundable anyways, there was no need to put up a fight, because it already seemed like this place does not care. This place claims to be a 3 star hotel/inn. And on yelp, they seem to take pride in 3 stars (odd). But this place is not even close to 3 stars. I had booked this place way before I started actively using yelp, and I wish I didn't. This is NOT a place where you should bring your significant other, kids, friends, or family. Check your reservation if you get the 2 queen with fireplace. We reserved their 2 queen with fireplace when we made our reservations. However, when we arrived, we were placed in a small 2 double bed room. At first we got little help with the front desk on duty at the time. However, later in the day the issue was resolved and we were placed in the room with the fireplace. Had a great ambiance, with even a cozy outdoor seating area for you to drink coffee in the morning or perhaps wine in the evening. Heated outdoor pool and hot tub was enjoyed by the entire family. We arrived at 5:05 PM on December 30th and waited in the lobby until 5:30 PM without being acknowledged once. During that entire time, the concierge was arguing with someone on the phone and did not greet us or let us know he would be with us shortly. When he finally put the phone down, he would not make eye contact or address us in any professional way. The lack of acknowledgment and basic courtesy made us feel unwelcome, and it was clear how disappointed we were with the experience. The room was clean and the spa was nice. The breakfast would good but I would also suggest to add more protein options, like hard boiled eggs. We had a room with a king bed and fireplace. The room size was more than adequate, well decorated but the fireplace did not work, there was a used coffee cup in the trash can when we entered the room and the bleach smell was so overwhelming that we had to open the sliding glass door to air it out. I understand the negative reviews but I'd say this place is worthy of a 3/5. The staff were friendly. The place overall is pretty. Parking was a bit of an annoyance due to the limited spaces but not too bad when it's the lot isn't full. Breakfast was okay for being complimentary, it consisted of Bagels, Yogurt, Coffee, Oatmeal, Granola Bars, Muffins, and some other pastries. The hot tub and pool were decent but at night, the lighting is bad. Some things that were frustrating was there is no daily room service. So if you're there with a family and if you eat in your room or need new towels, you'll have to request it from the front desk or notify an employee. The vending machines also only accepted cash. For 2025, you'd have thought something as convenient as a vending machine would be able to accept credit card but sadly it was back to the prehistoric ages. Like others who posted about ants, I found multiple near each window and also in our bathroom. The amount weren't overbearing but for staying on a 3rd floor, this was the last thing I expected. Additionally, the guests that my wife and I encountered were very unfriendly. The majority of guests during our stay were significantly older than us and tended to be single race/ethnic families. As two young adults who are a mixed race couple, we had a difficulty feeling comfortable around these older Caucasian individuals. It felt like these guests either didn't like us for being people of color or because we were a multiracial couple. They never spoke any dialogue to us but gave us disgusted looks when we encountered them during breakfast and in the parking lot. Each time they just glared and would shift their eyes to focus on us while they continued their conversation. Aside from these issues, the stay for the most part was pleasant. Not sure if we'd ever come back to here, but if fate and circumstance aligns to that conclusion, my wife and I would embrace it. There are better and worse places to stay at. This place is a gem! Conveniently located with easy access to Pacific Grove, Monterey, Del Monte shopping center, and Carmel. We stayed for a weekend, and left an important personal item behind. The staff was immediately helpful in locating our item and when we came back to pick it up , Jennifer, the manager was kind, friendly and helpful. From start to finish this place was an absolute nightmare. I have always heard horror stories of terrible hotels and for the past 24 years of my life I have had the luck of not experiencing one up until my stay over here. I checked in pretty late about 12 AM since it was a long drive for me to get up here after arriving to the hotel. I realized it was definitely a complete catfish. Once I walked into my room I noticed the bathroom was dirty. The room itself all around was dirty. I still had some hope and since I have no other place to go, I got ready for bed and I pulled the comforter off the bed only to be met with the site of a dead, crushed bug on my comforter I also began to hear scratching and squeaking in the walls. I immediately grabbed my things and ran out of this hotel room. There was no way that I was going to spend the night in this room. I went back to the lobby where I checked in, and there was no one in the lobby the person who had checked me and was not there anymore. The door was locked. I knocked on the door a couple times hoping maybe someone was still in there. There was no one in there. My husband and I ended up sleeping in our car the remainder of the night And then first thing in the morning we went to the lobby and told them what had happened the girl at the front desk typed everything into a computer and said somebody would call me two months had passed by and I had not received a single phone call so I decided to come back up here and drive here in person to see if I can speak to somebody. It's not about the refund or the money to me. It's simply about the principle. When I come back here, it's a different girl at the front desk and I tell her it's been two months. I have not received a single phone call. No one followed up with me on this situation and she said that the manager will be coming in tonight at 11. Her name is Jennifer so I had no choice but to stay and wait until 11 PM and I spoke to the manager and the way she responded was honestly appalling. She said that There is nothing that she can do for us. There was no apology nothing. Basically this hotel is a DISGUSTING SCAM. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else but here. I was just laid off of my job and wanted a weekend away for a workshop before dealing with next steps. I found this Inn via AAA and even though it was above my budget, thought it would be worth it after everything I've been through. When I first opened the door to my room I got hit with a truly intense awful chemical smell... pesticides maybe? It was so bad. I propped open my door and opened both windows all the way. Then it was freezing cold. But I wasn't willing to breathe in poisoned air. It made me immediately suspicious of bed bugs and didn't want to put my things down anywhere. I started to notice everything was pretty rough around the edges. I couldn't relax. And that's all I wanted! I was immediately so sad to have given my money to this place. It was late and I needed rest so I waited a long time for it to air out and went to sleep. The next morning I went to check out "breakfast" which consisted of a selection of entirely sugar added/artificial insta-cups, bars, and some plastic wrapped plain white bagels. No fresh food in sight. Skipped that. Went back to my room and saw all the details of rust, cracks, fake-leather-flaked-off chair (the only chair), crooked art, chipped mirror, a lot of unmatched decor. I was so tempted to ask for my money back but I didn't have time for that. I had a busy workshop schedule. A week after getting home I still have this intense chemical pesticide? smell that won't come out of the clothes I hung up. And I'm down $500 for a memorably terrible stay. 100% not worth the money. If I could give this place zero stars I would. This place is nothing like the advertised photos and it's comparable to a motel 6. If you plan on visiting Monterey I would 100% avoid staying at this place. Photos attached below are showcasing a bit of how dirty and outdated the rooms are. When I wanted a refund they don't let you cancel and while I was checking in a lady was complaining about how the photos are falsely advertised and she wanted a refund as well and staff did absolutely nothing to assist her. I think this hotel is used to the complaints and likes to scam people into having to stay there. At night when I was trying to call the front desk for the WiFi password no one was there, a couple in bathrobes walked up to me and said they've been waiting by the lobby for someone to come for an hour because they were locked out of their rooms after going to the pool and their key card wasn't working!!! No matter where I go I always sanitize my bathroom bed and floors. This place was pretty clean for the price had a fireplace great water pressure bright lights not too far from Cannery Row . There is a fire pit on the second floor great for s'mores , continental breakfast every morning was wonderful. The pool is clean. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable but not intrusive or nosy like some places, if you're coming to Monterey and want to save some money but still have a comfortable bed and continental breakfast with free parking this is the place. read more

I've stayed here before and it was pretty nice then. This time I stayed in a suite and it was nice too with a few exceptions. We arrived at 3p and was able to check in early w/ no issues or extra fees. The staff was nice and I did not have to wait to check in. The room was huge, two story. Most of it was clean but I notice some of the lamp shades had stains, the Murphy bed had gross stains on the box spring. The bed was uncomfortable and the remote upstairs was broken. The room is very spacious with a fireplace, full sized Murphy bed, king bed, and two full sized bathrooms. It was very quiet, so I guess we were lucky compared to others that left reviews. If they took care if this place a little more, it could be a gem. We do didn't eat the breakfast they offered, so not sure what that looked like. Parking is free. I recently stayed at this inn for a 4 day weekend. I can say without a doubt this was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. From the outside the hotel looks nice, very obvious it's on the older side. But being an inn in a port town like Monterey it gives it charm. But not without its issues. My first problem came with checking in, as I had contacted the hotel the night before and I was ensured we could check in early (normal check in time 4pm). Upon arriving at 1pm, we were told we'd have to wait until 4pm. Wasn't a big issue, but was inconvenient. Upon checking in and going to room, I immediately went to bathroom and noticed few ants. This wasn't a big issue at first, an no one was at the front desk to resolve the issue so we let it sit until morning. But following morning, what was originally around 4 ants turned into a colony coming from under the tub and light switch. When I did go to the front and requested the room be cleaned, the front desk person said they couldn't clean it, but they would spray for us. Well this solved nothing, as the bathroom was covered in dead ants and more were still coming out of the tub. My next issue was the water. The water was white, and I mean milky white. This was an on going issue our whole trip. At the same time I complained about the ants, I had mentioned the water and the front desk person said they just had their pipes redone and offered no solution. So we spent the 4 day weekend using bottled water to hygiene needs outside of showering and using the toilet. As I mentioned before the property is on the older side. As such several things clearly needed maintenance, the elevator was one of them. The first two days of our trip the elevator was out , and of course my room was on the second floor. This wasn't a big deal when I first heard it, but with all the issues found afterwords it became annoying. Speaking of the second floor. If for some odd reason you read this review and decide to stay here, BOOK A ROOM ON THE THIRD FLOOR! The floors and walls of this hotel are old and that means you hear everything. Our next door neighbors were relatively quiet, a you can hear people in the halls but not very often. But the room above me on the third floor I called hear EVERY movement and sound made. Granted I was out and about exploring the city during the day so it wasn't a big issue. But at night and on the morning it became so unbearable I had to purchase earplugs from the local mall. Speaking of the mall. On the Expedia webpage the inn mentions it has a gym onsite. This is a big lie. The gym is a at the mall, approximately.75 miles away from the hotel at a Golds Gym. They partnered with them so guests can use their faculty for free. This was bitter sweet as it meant you had access right away nice gym...but you had to drive to get there or walk in 50 degree temperatures to get there. Overall, it's possible this was just an off weekend inn. But considering all the issues with cleanliness, maintenance and water. I would highly recommend people stay clear of this place. read more

This was by far one of the worst and most misleading hotels I've ever stayed in. I wish I had taken the yelp reciews a little more seriously before coming here. The rooms on the website look nice, but in reality they are filthy. My room had stains on the floor, dead bugs, damaged headboards, and fixtures that were extremely shoddy. There was no closet at all, only a space in between the bathroom and bedroom with an ironing board hanging up and a cheap robe. The bedding was the thinnest I have ever experienced in a hotel. The bathroom was TERRIBLE. There was mold and toothpaste on the walls. The shower handle leaked when running. The provided hairdryer was probably made in the late 90's and also didn't work. The bathroom fan wasn't even attached correctly and also did not work. The mirror was super dirty. When the toilet flushed it would make the loudest squealing sound until it was done refilling. The walls here are paper thin and I was unlucky enough to both be by the stairs and next to an extremely loud family with two hyper kids. I could hear them running around and stomping up and down the stairs. The hotel advertises itself as being dog friendly, but the area to let your dog out is a tiny patch of grass next to the pool which is always muddy and wet. The only other place to walk your dog is either across the busy intersection where there is grass by the mall or all the way up and across the street to a bank with grass out front. Furthermore, there was no carpeting in the room, making the floor very uncomfortable and cold for my dog (luckily I had brought extra blankets and his travel crate). Oh yeah, and the floor was filthy. They provide cheap slippers that were probably bought at the dollar tree. Parking will be a nightmare if you get back after 9pm. They have a small lot and multiple spots are taken up by the maintenance and cleaning crews. The lady at the front desk, while accommodating, had the warmth of an icicle. Extremely unfriendly and acted like me being there was a huge inconvenience. One morning one of the hotel staff knocked loudly at my door unscheduled. I was in bed and was trying to put on a sweater and kept shouting "just a moment." She then proceeded to open the door on her own despite my Do Not Disturb sign and only stopped when she realized I had latched the door and she couldn't open it all the way. Terrible start to the day with a total stranger invading my space. This is definitely NOT a luxury boutique hotel and I would advise paying a few extra bucks and staying somewhere nicer. read more

I felt the staff was not all that friendly..The continental breakfast was adequate for our needs..The room was clean and the bed very comfortable..The bathroom needs some repair..The one thing that really annoyed us was the treatment by your staff...When I requested more bottled water,which I thought was complimentary,I was given 2 more,however when my daughters boyfriend,who is African American,asked for more water he was charged a fee..In this day and age I thought prejudice was gone,but apparently not at your establishment...Very bad for this to happen,we will not ever stay at your lodging again,and plan to spread the word.. I usually try to stick to more positive reviews but this was one the worst hotels, if not the worst hotel, me and my mother stayed at. When we got there front desk wasn't very hospitable. Once we got into the room, it just felt dirty. Before leaving to dinner, we tried to call the front desk/room service for some extra pillows and a warmer blanket. The phone in the room didn't connect to either, so we called on our own phones. They let us know we could only have 1 extra pillow and 1 blanket, even though there was 2 people staying in the room and we had to go pick it up ourselves. The pillows were horrible, absolutely no support, not even 3 pillows added up to one "normal" pillow, literally felt like they were bought off temu and same applies to the bath towels. Wifi was horrible, it did not work at all. We found that the room had a dirty floor, we found a dirty eye contact lens, a dirty towel, and hair everywhere. We decided to try to make the most of it since it was only 2 nights and one of the only reasonably priced hotel we could find during the week we went. I hate to leave a bad review, but the hotel was a bit disappointing. While booking everything looked great and the photos of the rooms looked inviting but a few key things rubbed me the wrong way. 1. The service is terrible. The check in was fine but they offer no room service and don't make up the rooms. They don't tell you ahead of time or leave extra towels. When we called down to inquire, we were told we needed to come down and get the towels and we should know this because it was posted in the lobby. I go down there to grab towels but no one is there... now what? I wait... and finally I get towels. The one person working here was struggling. I guess she was on break when I came to get towels. She wasent super but the job seemed like a crummy one, so I get it. 2. The walls are paper thin. We could hear every step from the neighbors above us and every word from the movie the people next to us were watching. It was not a great experience to stay in the packed hotel. 3. The rooms were generally nice and updated well. The fireplaces were a nice touch but looking at the details things were falling apart. The air/heater made a god awful sounds and our towel rack fell apart. I was a bit bummed for what we paid but it did the job. The perks were the parking and the ice were free. read more

Phone service? NON-EXISTENT. I booked this hotel bc the photos looked nice. Checked reviews, started feeling a little unsure. Looked at photos on Yelp, decided to cancel. When I booked, they did not send a confirmation email. I booked over the weekend and figured I would get something Monday morning. Nothing. I called and managed to have someone answer the phone, I told them I hadn't received any correspondence and before I could finish the sentence the customer service rep/ front desk rep said they sent it. Fine. Checked my email for a message from them. The subject was "no subject" and everything in the email was in one giant paragraph of a run-on sentence. No breaks, no trademarks or images. Just a blob of words. Fine. A confirmation number is included in the email. I copy and paste it into the Modify/Cancel part of the reservations page. THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER DID NOT WORK. In addition to copy and pasting, manually typing, numerical characters only, I tried my last name, first name and full name only to be met with "We could not find your reservation. Please re-enter your confirmation number" Fine. So I decide to call the number included in the blob of words. Here's where it gets BAD. Their phone number literally throws you into a loop of options to... - dial by extension - dial by name - "To leave message, press 6" - "To speak to operator" - "For more options, press 9" which leads an automated response "this note does not have a message" and returns you to the mail menu - or do nothing and it transfer you to operator and in for the loop again. And no matter what time of day you call, you are always greeted with an automated "Good Morning." I stayed in this loop for almost an hour. There's no way they are so busy that a customer is left to kick rocks with a never ending automated message menu. I emailed someone and after explaining my situation they canceled my reservation. I never give bad reviews, I am a very generous and understanding patron, and I don't see this as reflective of the employees who are trying to make a living (y'all are good in my book I know it's hard out here‍), but instead the owners and decisions makers of this establishment. This place has so much potential and I want to see y'all reach it but this AINT it. I'll be in Monterey anyways so maybe I'll poke my head in sometime and see if things are better!
