Ordered a to-go meal ahead of my arrival. The restaurant was slightly busy, but appeared clean. One thing I wasn't a fan of was the graffiti on the doors and walls - It just feels like vandalism that the owners didn't care to clean up! Not sure if this is part of the chain's aesthetic, and if it's like this at every location or not... It was even in the bathroom, and clearly people took it too far, because next to the only urinal was a giant "F*** YOU", and it was crossed out by one big line, and not at all removed or attempted to be removed. To me it just seems too chaotic and encourages deviant behavior... This is not somewhere that I would bring my kids or family members, because of stuff like that. The food was ready when I got there, but I still had to stand around for a few minutes before someone finally came along and handed my order to me. I got the Catfish Basket with onion rings. It was about $16. I took the meal home and surprisingly the food was still piping hot when I sat down to eat it. The fish was excellent. There is the comment being made that the food is 'greasy', but I mean, it's fish - and it's fried... what do you expect? ...So, yes, the food was greasy, but that's part of the joy to it. If you want to eat healthy, go to Wegmans or Kroger. The fish was excellent. The breading was crunchy. The fish was soft and tender. No odor. Great seasoning - not too much, not too little. Not spicy at all (trust me, I'd be the first to tell you!) The onion rings were a bit on the less crispy side, not quite soggy, but still delicious none the less. The inner breading was just a bit spongy. They aren't like Outback's fried to a crisp onion rings/petals. The bag contained two moist towelettes and a pair of food grade disposable gloves, for those who indulge in the messiest of foods from here - not for simple fish. Also, when at the counter they wanted to know if I wanted any sauces. I did not, but I appreciated the gesture. I was happy with my service here and with the food overall. The restaurants appeal and decor gets a 5/10, because while the decor was nice and the wood facade of the furniture and structure were great, they were caked in a myriad of profanity and anarchy, as mentioned before about the graffiti-like markings. The food gets a 9/10, while it did have minor issues, it was overall an amazing lunch! The staff gets a 9.5/10 as well - While I was acknowledge once by a passing staff member running food to a table, I still had to wait a little while to be serviced, at the busiest time of day. We are frequent customers, all 6 of us at least once a month. But today, I sent my husband to pick up my order. I ordered 1 lb of snow crab legs with no corn, double potatoes. The outer receipt confirmed "no corn, add potatoes" so my husband took the bag and came home. I opened the bag and there are crab legs with no potatoes. My husband drove back. They offered NO APOLOGIES for the inconvenience. They were going to take the crab legs to the back, open the bag, and throw in some potatoes. My husband asked for a fresh order altogether, they refused. The manager said, "We don't do fresh orders". How much do they screw up that they can't correct their mistakes?! Or maybe, they just don't care!? My husband just got a refund and left. This is piss poor customer service! I'm so glad we have other options. read more

Came back on Father's Day since my dad was looking for crab legs and figured we'd give this spot another shot. Arrived right around the time they opened and there was only about one or two other parties there. Our server was super friendly/helpful and checked up on us a good amount. We ordered hush puppies, a dozen steamed scallops, 4 pounds of snow crab legs, a pound of king crab legs, corn, potatoes, and sausage in their lemon pepper seasoning. They did not skimp or disappoint, my parents loved all the crab and scallops and couldn't even finish it. Definitely a great time for all of us. This place is okay at best. Seafood wasn't anything too impressive. The sauce that comes in the seafood boil bag wasn't very flavorful to me and tasted kind of watered down. And while I thought the hush puppies were pretty good, everything else was just meh. Definitely prefer Chasin Tails for sure. The 15-20 min drive is worth it to me. read more

After our previous go-to restaurant for crab boil bags had consistent issues, we decided to try Shakin Crab at the recommendation of several friends. We placed our first order for snow crab legs and hush puppies via phone without any issues. When we picked up the order, the employees were masked up properly and were friendly. We immediately noticed the great quality of the food, especially in comparison to other local crab boil bags. For example, the garlic butter sauce used freshly minced garlic rather than just garlic powder. (Yum!) The spice also had a more complex flavor. (It looked like they used some spicy oil instead of just dry spices.) We barely said a word throughout the meal because we were too busy digging into the crab, corn, potatoes, and hush puppies. The one pound bag was the perfect amount of food for us to split and was priced reasonably. We were definitely pleased with our first experience with Shakin Crab and look forward to enjoying them for takeout until we can visit the restaurant in person! read more

This place is the best place to go for crab legs in Northern VA. It really is that simple. $27 can get you a full pound of snow crab legs, along with a potato and corn (or 2 potatoes). You can get them in butter sauce, or Cajun sauce. I've had crab legs with butter my whole life, but the Cajun sauce (comes in 3 levels of spicy- mild, medium or hot) is honestly extremely good and addicting. I personally get the medium Cajun and it's great. The crab legs are steaming hot, the quality of the crab meat is good, the sauces (butter or Cajun) are both delicious. The price is very reasonable, the crab legs and food it comes with is excellent, the atmosphere is nautical and laid back, the place is clean, the servers are pretty good. (Even if the servers kind of sucked I'd still give this place a 5 though, the food and atmosphere is that good haha.) We first came here about 3 weeks ago. Since then we've come 4 times lol. It's great to have a local restaurant that serves crab legs. We leave completely stuffed, and our bill's usually around $100 + tip, for 2 people and a baby. (We get 3 lbs of crab legs + potato + corn, plus drinks). You go out to eat for generic steak or Italian food, and the bill's at least $70 these days. The food was so good! The crab legs were a nice size (not too small) and the meat was so delicious! I had to keep the crab legs in the bag for a little over an hour and the legs weren't cold and the meat still pulled out of the legs without breaking apart! I ordered a to-go order. read more

The reviews on Yelp caught my eye to try this place out. My boyfriend loves seafood -- basically grew up eating crabs all his life and said he wanted to give this place a try due to good reviews. Idk if we were lucky or what, but the week we went, they had some better deals the night we went. One of their specials was 1/2 lb snow crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn and a potato for I think $29.99? And then we also got another special which was mussels, clams, sausage, and corn for $19.99. They both came in a big steamer bag. Then we got a fried oyster basket which comes with any side, so we chose hush puppies. We loved all the food!! It was great. We asked for their house sauce and mild spice, and it was very tasty. Some of their clams were overcooked, but not too bad. Oysters and crabs were perfect. I ordered 1LB Snow Crab Legs and a Fried Shrimp basket. The food was affordable, I think I paid $36 total. The food tasted pretty good, but I woke up at 3am with horrible food poisoning. I had just flown in to visit my daughter's and I was in the mood for some mud bugs. My daughter told me that there was a place that had just opened up close to her so I called in my order on our way from the airport. The restaurant is clean and spacious. We picked up our food and took it home. The hush puppies were good. Not too sweet. I had ordered my crawfish Cajun, medium heat. I was a bit disappointed in the flavor. It really more Cajun seasoning. It didn't have that zing that Cajun seasoning has. The crawfish were a decent size though. The steam bags are pretty solid. I got the special #1. When ordering online i was asked if i wanted to replace 1/2 dozen sausage with shrimp. I opted out but i regretted it. Had way more sausage than shrimp in the bag and one cluster of crab legs. The snow crab legs were delicious though and you could tell they were cooked properly because the meat pulled right out the shell. My partner got the king crab leg bag and loved them. I picked up a crab leg and shrimp steamer combo. The combo isn't cheap but there was a lot of food and I was able to easily split it with one other person. The crab legs were excellent but the shrimp were not quite as good in my opinion. You get to choose your seasoning and I would highly recommend the Shakin Sauce, it was really good. We also ordered a couple sides and they all went well with the meal and tasted good. We're definitely going to hit this place up again when we have the itch for some steamed seafood. One recommendation if you're going to order, make sure you have some claw crackers if you're ordering crab. We made it work with what we had but probably mangled things a bit more than if we had the right tools. read more

Woefully Underwhelmed. We came in with great expectations. There was way too much breading, and not enough flavor. I want to say - we might have ordered wrong. My friend ordered non-fried shrimp - which came in a big bag that was steamed and flavored. His tasted a lot better. I ordered the fish and hush puppies, which were ok. They had some pretty great flavored butter sauce - but we found we had to dip everything in sauce to get any kind of flavor. I like Shakin crab. I typically get their seafood bags, fish, or their wings. My only issue with this restaurant is their consistency with rules and service. Certain times they will make my wings how I want them and other times because I want them crispy they won't toss them in a sauce. Same applies for their shakin sauce. Certain times they will allow for you to buy the sauce other items it depends on what you buy. Great place! Came here with my cousins from Alexandria, about a 45 min drive. We came on a Friday just before close. We got the raw oysters and hush puppies as appetizers both fresh and great!! Didn't want to go too heavy since we were all getting the boil. Really nice seafood boil restaurant. I usually get a boil that does more than satisfy, and am sorry for not leaving a review in the past. Today I stopped by for a light snack, trying to avoid overeating and feeling miserable on the way home. My waitress Michelle was AWESOME! I'm always indecisive when ordering food, however; she was very patient. She took my Drink order, food order, and lastly my "condiment" order. I habitually forget to ask for condiments when I order, ask afterwards, and wait while my food gets cold. THIS TIME, me and my condiments waited for the food together. I ordered the Fried soft shell crab basket that came with 1 side (hush puppies). I never had soft-she'll crab before and didn't know what to expect. It was different, but in a great way. The MEAT of the crab....is an acquired taste, and by the 2nd bite, I'd acquired it . It was really tasty. I had butter (that comes with the hush puppies), cocktail sauce, and hot sauce. By the last bite I realized that I didn't even use the hot sauce. The soft shell crabs were lightly seasoned and were tasty alone, with butter, and with cocktail sauce. At one time, enough crab meat popped out that took it and dumped it in butter . Also, surprisingly, it was just the right amount to satisfy. I'd feared that by eating an all fried meal, that I would regret it afterwards, but I didn't. I felt fine. Which is awesome because my stomach is sensitive and had already accepted that I was going to feel bad afterwards.....not this time. Oh, I can't forget the hush puppies......as Daym Drops puts it "Shhhhh.....hush puppy." I really enjoyed my meal and only wish that I had ordered dessert. 1st time for my hubby & I. Recommended by a friend. We purchased the Combo meal #A 1lb. Snow crab shrimp potatoes and corn. We added sausage. We had it mild/shaking sauce. I was disappointed they had no hard alcohol. (One of two reasons I did not give them a 5 star.) But, the sparkling mascoto was delicious. I have plenty of crab boils... this place gave u more for ur buck. I am more a custom to a more creole style flavor. So, tho the flavor was good... just not popping. The service was good and quick. The Shakin Crab is a nice little place to get some good crab meals! I just happened to see this restaurant while heading into the Staples next door. The first thing I noticed when I walked in were the walls that were filled with drawings and written notes by patrons. It's actually pretty cool! We were seated at a booth and I read all the different notes that were written on the wall next to me. As for the menu, it's not large but it satisfies the reason why you're there...crabs and fried seafood! For a starter, they give you a small plate of popcorn. It comes with every meal which is nice. For our first visit, we wanted to make sure we order something good: the shrimp and crab leg combo, along with the calamari basket. For being the third party in the whole restaurant, it took a little bit of a wait to receive our food, but our server was very nice and attentive and always keeping us updated on our food. For our meals, we were given bibs, extra napkins, plates, and bucket for our leftover pieces. The combo came in a big steamed bag while the calamari came in a small basket. Now for the food...the calamari was not my favorite. I found that the breading overpowered the calamari and it tasted more greasy than anything. The hush puppies that came with it were delicious! Those were gone in a few minutes. The steamed bag came with our shrimp and crab legs, but it also came with sausage and corn. Those were great additions because we were full! Our experience here was nice. Although we waited a little bit for our food, the service was to par and they even let us write on their wall! If I'm in the area, I could see myself coming here again if I were in the mood for more crab and fried seafood. There is definitely more to try out! read more

What a lovely dinner. I know we've all seen the mixed reviews but i will tell you we found the meal very good and worthy going back. We order the seafood platter boil, snow crab/mussels boil, fried oyster basket (so good we had to get a 2nd one) w hush puppies. Plus extra hush puppies and coleslaw. Then finished w the cheesecake and key lime pie. Perfect and both boils had so much we will all be enjoying it for a few more days. As a Cajun with one daughter still in Acadia Parish; I was extremely disappointed in their claims. The crawfish and shrimp were poorly seasoned. The "garlic butter" was not real butter it was clear so I believe it was margarine with chunks of garlic so it tasted like oil. Nasty. The meat was bland which shows they have no idea what a REAL crab boil is. Another Cultural appropriation which they ruined I saw on the menu they had sausage, so I asked two guys if it was Tasso, Andoullie or Boudin. They said Kielbasa. Um, that is so NOT CAJUN! That is Maine! Not a single Zataran's Crab Boil or Tony Chacherie. It's a shame this restaurant has to Cultural appropriation to have a business THEN trash it. So disappointing! Oh and $6 for a beer! WOW! Didn't know I was in DC! We won't even discuss the poor service and attention from the server. We saw her FOUR times! His order, my order, food, then bill.
