We ordered the mapo tofu, vegetable spicy dry pot (apparently seem to be known for the pots), jing jiang pork, Yummy Spicy chicken, and also got the mango refresher drink. The drink was really good, especially for a restaurant!! Very floral tea with fruity mango notes, it was so good I wanted another one. The mapo tofu was very rich in flavor, it had the spiciness but also held the body of the black bean flavor without being oily. So far our favorite mapo tofu in the area. The Yummy Spicy Chicken (fried cubed chicken with peppers) was the same, the crunchiness was perfect and the chicken was still moist. I do wish it had a little more spice but it was still good. The Jing Jiang pork also tasted good, but I was quite surprised with the meat quality as re-heating the next day did not have any gamey flavors. Finally the dry vegetable was also really delicious, a wide variety of vegetables with a few having a seared flavor. Would try getting the beef dry pot next time! Service was also really good, the waiters came to check on us multiple times and even wanted to reheat our dry pot. Nice quaint space. We stopped in for something different. We were seated immediately. Service was great. Food cooked fresh to order. Parking lot was small. I do not remember what everyone had but my cumin lamb was great and I had hot sake. My son had the orange chicken which he enjoyed. My daughter had the chicken with scallion and chili and my other daughter got some soup. As you can see in the pictures the portions are big for family style eating. Everything was great. Yummy Spicy truly lives up to its name! Having been to Yummy Spicy at least 6 to 8 times over the years, it really hard to find anything that isn't yummy and plenty of authentic Szechuan spice to heat up the palate. My wife and I have made this our go to lunch spot whenever we can get away from the office. Great food at great prices makes the lunch specials even more enticing. Lunch specials come with choice of fried rice or steamed, egg roll, and choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup. This review is coming after opting in for the sesame shrimp lunch special which was incredible. The shrimp were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of fresh breading to allow for a crunchy texture. The tofo vegetables lunch special is a mainstay for my wife and did not disappoint. Because we like a little spice, the Szechuan cold noodles are always an excellent way of getting just the right amount of heat without going too far. Both the egg drop and hot and soup soups are just the right complementary dishes to the meal, leaving an option for non-spicy with the egg drop or some heat with the hot and sour option. On prior visits, we got the Kung Pao chicken and tried the handcrafted teas, all of which were awesome. Customer service is always great and attentive. We haven't been to Yummy Spicy in a while since it's far from where we live but we took advantage of the lighter traffic to come on a weekday. We love this place because the owner is so nice and she is almost always on site. She's so friendly, just like everyone else who works here. She's takes great pride in her food and her family's business and it shows. The lunch specials are a great deal because they come with a choice of soup, rice, and an egg roll. We love their dumplings and always have an order of those as well. I had the eggplant in spicy garlic sauce and it was delicious. Be sure to ask for Chinese spice levels if you really want some heat. My husband ordered the Mongolian beef (he's not a fan of spice) and he enjoyed that as well. It is worth a trip from our part of town because the food and service are just that good. This restaurant is located in old Taco Bell. The inside features some neat art although near the bar it was a complete mess of to go containers and surplus. The food was fantastic. The hot and sour soup was nice and peppery. It also was hearty with vegetables and egg. The other apps of dry green beans and crab Rangoon were equally delicious. I was kind of surprised of the price difference f the Rangoon when you only get 4. Their container of hot chili oil was VERY spicy! I enjoyed it but consider yourself warned. My entree of noodles was filling and well seasoned The vegetables were a perfect mix of el dente. I had a lot of leftover food and tasted great the next day too. The service was a little distant. I went around 7:30 pm on a Sunday night with two friends. It was pretty busy but I got seated right away. The service was pretty slow but to be fair and to reiterate, they were pretty busy. I only tried a few items and some were good and some were just okay. Nothing was terrible though. Here's my review of each of the items that I got. Bamboo fish: The breading was thin which I liked. The fish was well seasoned and cooked. However there were way more pepper flakes in the dish than there was actual fish. I'm not sure what kind of fish this was or where the bamboo part comes in, but the dish was just breaded fish and pepper flakes. Not sure if I would get it again though. Sizzling black pepper beef/Hotplate beef: The flavor of this was really good. However the texture of the meat reminds me of textured soy protein and not so much actual beef. I would get this again though. Shrimp: The shrimp I got was just called shrimp in the seafood section of the menu. The shell was still on which gave it a good crunch and the flavor was really good. However it was a little greasy and oily for my taste. Eggplant: The eggplant was the best item I got. No complaints. I would come back just for the eggplant alone. This was just called eggplant under the vegetables section. It was a little loud in the restaurant but that's expected when it's so busy. The restaurant was extremely dark and dim inside. Many are spicy. The menu was huge, many pages! The waiters were very helpful. We ordered Beef Tendon & Tripe in Chili Sauce for appetizer. Probably closer to a 4.5! Came here for lunch with my parents and had a lovely time. We ordered three lunch specials (twice-cooked pork, shredded pork with chili pepper, seafood hot pot) and one non-lunch special (combination hot pot, $19.95), all to share. The lunch specials are ~$10.95 and come with spring rolls, rice, soup (egg drop or hot/sour), and the entree, which is a great deal for the amount of food you get. It's worth noting that the hot pots aren't dry hot pot, as the menu photos suggest -- they come with a kind of oily broth -- but they're pretty delicious nonetheless. The twice-cooked pork was especially well done, and that's according to my Sichuanese mother. The restaurant was completely empty when we went for lunch, with the exception of some people coming to get take-out, which I attribute to the weirdly angled parking situation and somewhat hard-to-find location. My friends took me to Yummy Spicy for the first time, and although I'm glad to discover a new restaurant in the area, I was kind of expecting a little more. Given the name and the pictures, I was hoping for more spice to the foods. As someone who enjoys my food spicy, I did not think Yummy Spicy was hot at all- I had to ask for extra chili oil to dip my food in. I think that despite all the Asian/oriental restaurants around, Yummy Spicy IS different. It's definitely a different style, so yes, I would say that this restaurant is a hidden gem, and I would come here again and introduce other people to this restaurant. The food comes out quickly and service was good. The menu does a good job of describing each item so you know what you're ordering. And there's also some pictures. I wouldn't say I was disappointed in the food particularly, I just was hoping for more spice. I wanted a kick. At least that was the expectations I had for my food. I also think compare to other restaurants around, Yummy Spicy has a much more limited menu. There's not much to offer for noodle or rice dishes. I think they had about 4 different noodle dish options and only fried rice for rice dishes. Of course white rice comes complimentary with the entrees though. I also think their portion size is a little on the smaller end, especially for the price. You're looking to spend at least $12 a dish here, but most of the dish is filled up with the peppers so it looks big, but in actuality, its not that big. The price is comparative to surrounding Asian restaurants. I would definitely eat family style if you come here. The dishes we ordered were the baby wontons in chili oil, dry fried eggplant, braised fish in chili oil, yummy spicy chicken, and a noodle dish. My personal favorite was the braised fish in chili oil, but I'm a big fish person. I don't think this dish was spicy at all, but the fish is very soft and juicy. The sauce that it comes in tastes great if you eat it over rice with the fish. The baby wontons also weren't spicy at all. I actually dipped them in chili oil sauce again before eating. But this is also a dish I typically like to order at restaurants. Its a good appetizer if you're looking for something small. The yummy spicy chicken reminds me of Quickly's chicken nuggets, except bigger. And I honestly didn't care for the fried eggplant. If you're looking for a different restaurant other than your routine Chinese, Thai, Korean, or Vietnamese restaurant- check this place out! Came here for lunch today (Friday afternoon). Parking is odd. Yummy Spicy shares a small free parking lot, and the parking spaces have angled lines painted, as if it's a one way drive through the parking lot. R ordered Mongolian Beef lunch (beef had a $2 upcharge) with a fried vegetable spring roll, and selected white steamed rice and egg drop soup. It didn't take long for our food to be served to us, and the portions were generous. My meal was delicious. I loved the firm and crunchy bamboo shoots. The only thing about this meal that I would've changed is to have the bits of chicken be larger. The cuts of chicken were about 2 inches long and very thin. The flavor of this was very good. The soup was good, and I thought it needed a little more spiciness to get it to the the "hot" level, since it was HOT and sour soup. The service could improve here. Almost every Saturday I'm in Gwinnett county now so I'm looking forward to trying more restaurants on Buford highway. I wanted chinese food and something spicy so went to yelp and decided that Yummy sounded like a good option. It's a very small restaurant and it was perfect for this introvert that was dining solo. Several tables had customers so I was placed at a table with 4 chairs and brought a menu. The menu is divided up my proteins with a veggie section also. In the dining room there was a projector in playing asian karaoke shows, the music was nice. I ordered green tea and was brought out a mini tea pot and the tea was very hot, boiling hot so I had to wait several minutes to take a sip. Also the tea was not good, it tasted old. For my meal, I ordered Sichuan shrimp $15.95 and fried eggplant. I forgot how large asian portions are and when the items came out, it was a lot of food for one person. I was also pretty excited because I would have leftovers. Food came out very fast and everything looked delicious. The food came with complimentary steamed rice which was very nice. Everything tasted very good and was very flavorful, I enjoyed each bite. Food 4 stars Ambience 4 stars Reason for the 3 stars is the service; I had to ask for water, to go box, my check.
