The food was delicious and the service was great. Our server didn't speak great English so she got her general manager to help to make sure the order was taken right. He was super friendly and patient. I felt very comfortable in this restaurant and very welcome. First let me start by saying the food is really good. Definately worth coming to try at least once. But for me I could not enjoy my meal because it was so loud. I love good Mariachi music however it was too loud. The band used mics and the space isn't that big where mics are necessary. I would recommend the owners to have the music at a more comfortable to the ears level. We could not have a conversation and I could hardly hear what the waiter was saying. Well my GG picked up the order it was $105 got home opened the tray and was very disappointed first off the size of it was ridiculous 2nd the tray was full over half way with that shrimp soup o told them not to put 3rd no flavor what's so every it tasted like straight water it was red but I feel like they put paprika or something to make it turn red because it had no flavor. I live about 40min away from The restaurant so I call the restaurant and all they can tell me is not go back so they can exchange it. I was not happy it's that response if I wanted to drive n additional hr and 15 min I would just drive to the canjrejo on archer which has way better taste and the half charola is the same size as the costa full charola and at el cangrejo it's half the price. Pretty big place to go to that had mostly seafood dishes. Entrees are a pretty good size and have a lot of different dishes than the usual. I had the shrimp empanadas that come with a zesty sauce and avocado and were pretty good. Tried the michelada with Dos XX and it comes in a big mug but was just ok, I have had much better. Ordered the fish taco with cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce and avocado and it was a good size taco but didn't have that much flavor to it. The Pina de Costa was pretty cool and unique. Its a pineapple stuffed with shrimp, octopus, scallops and some white sauce. The service is pretty slow and we were there on a weekday for lunch so it wasn't very busy. They also have musicians who will play songs for you but in my opinion is pretty costly at $20 song? There is parking in front that you pay for but there is also a free parking garage across the street. I heard that the margaritas really good so may try the place again and have that. read more

I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was extremely busy. My boyfriend and I waited about 45 minutes to be seated. They skipped our name on the wait list and stated they looked for us, but we were sitting in the wait area with everyone else. Once we were seated, we were served pretty quickly. I honestly wanted to like this place more since I live in the area however the prices for what you get are a little ridiculous. My ordered of camarones zarandeados was $30 and it was about 8/9 shrimps sliced in half. If you upgrade the tequila on your drinks its like $5 more per drink which is probably not bad IF the upgrade was a way better tequila other than Don Julio or Patron. I think the best bet is to go with a group and just order a few of their dishes and share them... some of their other dishes had big portions. The rest of the food is pretty similar to the rest of the Mexican seafood restaurants such a Alegrias, Las Islas, or Magueyes. This location is also very crowded on the weekends and can be kind of loud for some people since they do have mariachi or trio singing around tables. This place was a complete disappointment. Went for a birthday dinner, the place was chosen by the birthday man as he seems to be a seafood lover. I'm not much of a seafood lover so I opted for a steak; a tampiqueña cooked to medium temperature and no onions. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time, granted not everything came out at once for everyone - I don't have a problem with that although I know some people do. Perhaps I set myself up for disappointment seeing that this is a seafood place and not steakhouse. My steak came well done (hockey puck-like) and there were onions on my plate which I simply pulled out, although I shouldn't have had to. Their bar seems limited in options. Paid $7 for a shot of generic rum, haven't gone out drinking these last few years but that seemed a little steep for some house rum. I don't know perhaps I'm outdated or I'm just full of hatred from the disappointment, you decide. My girlfriend's brother ordered something with shrimp and apparently had to return it because they don't de-vein the shrimp. Once again, I don't eat much seafood so I don't know if this is common practice with shrimp at other places. Another factor that contributed towards an unpleasant time was the temperature, it was very cold there. Everyone had their jackets on including many employees. When we asked for the temperature to be raised we were told their furnace was having issues, guess we can't really blame them on that one but it was nonetheless annoying and uncomfortable as the food got cold very fast for those who were waiting on the rest of us to receive our food. Just to be a fair reviewer I'll throw a small hint of positivity. My girlfriend enjoyed her piña rellena, even though her french fries were sitting in whatever juice was released by the stuffing in the pineapple. Not sure I'd like French fries soaked in seafood juice lol.. Lastly, the music was not as loud and obnoxious as some other reviewers have said, however, I will state that if you do hire these guys to play for you, please do not shake their hand... I stumbled into 3 of them in the restroom and all three walked out without washing their hands after using the facilities.. Instruments on their back and all. I'm glad they don't cook there... I enjoy going to this restaurant so much because it reminds me of Mexico. The food is delicious, the servings are big enough for three people. They serve you complimentary seviche. I went around 1:00 pm on a Saturday and there were no lines. Wet got seated right away. They have a band that play songs at your request, each song is $20.00 dollars. I loved the food and the value here, but there were a few small snags along the way which wouldn't allow me to give this place five stars. First, the positives: We came here Friday night at 7 pm with a party of 10 (!) and we were seated in five minutes. That is amazing, considering they don't take reservations. They do serve alcohol, and they have the grand daddies of margaritas, which is (yikes) $15 for a huge glass. However, don't be foolish like us and never ask the price of the drinks because we must have gotten about five or so margaritas before we realized the price, LOL! For dinner, a few of us had the special Pinã La Costa, which is half of a pineapple, cut open, filled with seafood in a savory tomato-based broth. The seafood comprises shrimp, octopus, crab legs, scallop, imitation crab, clam, and pineapple chunks I believe. I also remember there being some iceberg lettuce salad (we didn't have any appetite to eat this after devouring our seafood) and rice and baked French fries. Really random assortment but the star is really the big pineapple with succulent seafood and juicy broth dripping down your chin and hands as you crack those crab legs ! Some of my other friends had the huachinango, which is the fried whole snapper. It was also huge by don't get this dish if you don't like whole fish and bones and the face still on- yum, the eyeballs are tasty and nutritious! Most dishes come with side salad and fries. Another friend split the oyster appetizers, which was tasty. Some friends also got the langostinos special by weight, which looked super tempting if you want to get down to business and not get weighed down by sides-- remember, everything is shell-on! My bf got the tilapia fillet in Nayarit sauce, which was mildly sweet, a little spicy, and another tomato based sauce. His dish was the cheapest around $15 but everyone else's pinã dish/fried snapper was around $23 and I believe the smaller size portion of langostinos was around $45. They have a live Mariachi band, it is $25 per song. I took off two stars because they sing so loudly eating is kind of stressful-- too much noise and can barely hear anyone at the table. read more

Never again! If you are looking to enjoy time out friends over dinner this is NOT the place. I have been a customer of La Costa for years now but last night, regretfully experienced the rude service many warned me about before. We were sat at 7 p.m.-that's important because we were at the establishment for 45 minutes when we were asked by the busboy to leave because they had customers waiting. Important to note: WE HAD NOT EVEN RECEIVED OUR CHECK! I let him know, first of all we haven't even received our check to pay, and secondly we waited and are paying customers. Not to mention that we haven't been able to get a word in because of the mariachi that has been playing next to us. He leaves and is soon followed by the waitress who brings the check and asks us to go pay. We provide her with our payment-after she takes the payment she says she needs us to give our table up. We express our frustration over the fact that we are paying customers and didn't think we abused the time we spent at the establishment since we "haven't even been here an hour, which is neither here nor there" Not to mention that our service was scattered and had to send a dish back because it was served cold! She leaves but soon after returns with our receipts (stamped 7:52 p.m.) and the busboy and they just stand next to our table-HOW RUDE! We get up and leave and then vouch to never return again! Amazing atmosphere, friendly service, huge menu selection with big portions, and just an overall good time! Ordered the Filete a la Crema, Piña la Costa, Ostiones con ceviche, and a horchata! The Filete a la Crema came with delicious fries, garlic bread, a side salad, rice, the filet of white fish topped with shrimp, chunks of octopus all smothered in this delicious mushroom cream sauce. Dipping the fries into the sauce made for an amazing bite. The rice also had a very good texture and light flavor. The Pina la Costa was ordered with the red sauce. It was only slightly spicy and had an amazing flavor. The chunks of mussels, clams, shrimp, octopus were plentiful! The crab legs were covered in the delicious sauce as well as the shell on shrimp! The Raw Oysters topped with Ceviche were very refreshing and light! Made for a great appetizer to start and to share! The horchata was also delicious! I've given la Costa on Ashland and on Central one to many times. I know times are rough right now and that's why I'm trying to order out as much as possible but that doesn't give a restaurant the right to give me crappy food either. I've complained about the caldo de camaron many times and yet it still hasn't changed. I had some dish that i couldn't remember the name for the life of me. There was a coconut full of octapus, shrimp and scallops in a delicious butter sauce. It came with battered fries and rice. It was soooo big, i couldn't finish it but I sure did try. My mouth is watering thinking about it. My husband who detests fish loved it as well. That says alot. We also ordered steak with enchilada on top and that steak was so tender and so well cooked. I am amazed with this place. I can't wait to return. They have a mariachi band and those guys are kickass singers. That makes the place a bit loud and you can't hear your company that well.
