Located in the cliffs hotel this restaurant has a beautiful view. We went there for breakfast so we didn't get to try any of the dinner dishes. The breakfast was okay, nothing extraordinary. I also don't think we ordered the right stuff, the pancakes and waffles looked amazing. My daughter got the Açaí bowl which was very runny. I got the breakfast eggs and bacon which was okay. One star and I'm saying this bc although we were seated outdoors due to Covid. It was not social distancing. Tables are very close. They only take pics of the spatial distance of their VERY few tables and lounge chairs on the lawn setting. I seen tables there that people had left an hour and still was not sanitized . How did I know ? I saw their half empty plastic cups all over the table as they left and nobody for an hour sanitized it!!!! They tell you to wear a mask, however the tab book they use to give your tab had numerous fingerprints. The server kept forgetting what we ordered. Why didn't he write it down was beyond me! I think we would have been satisfied with at least a cocktail waitress head nod in our direction...but what we got was front row seats to a cocktail waitress serving TF out of a growing table of dude bros and locals at the next table. We confirmed we could sit at one of the tables in the bar for drinks. So we sat. Bar was busslin, wedding party going on and clearly some games on TV for sports peeps. For that reason alone we were extra patient...till we felt straight up ignored. A small group behind us began to grow...we saw the waitress take their orders in a very timely manner as they began to congregate. So nice of her...how nice for them. (: My husband finally went to the bar and ordered our waters and cocktails and received service from the bartender who was back there working his butt off. Waitress gets no stars! Maybe it was a personal bias against folks who didn't look like her? (Sure felt that way!) Her ultra rude vibe just ruined our feelings with this place. My boyfriend ordered the Osso Bucco and said it tastes okay but the mushrooms were very stringy. I ordered the Cioppino and it was really off. My boyfriend took a bite too and noticed it didn't taste right. We assumed the odd taste was the soyrizo they add to it as that isn't a norm in Cioppino. There were two mussels and a clam that were not even opened that I pulled out. The other two mussels tasted really fishy. The broth was gritty. I was only able to eat half of it which was a disappointment for how expensive the dish was. I wish I would have never ate any of it... About 5 hours after eating I started to get horrible stomach cramps and violently ill the rest of the day and all through the night. That was the only food I had that day. I can't even remember the last time I have been this sick. Last night I slept on the bathroom floor. I am still sick this morning and missing work. When you're on the hunt for a great restaurant, I'm sure your first choice might not be a hotel restaurant. Well, I'm here to say that you should absolutely consider Marisol for your dining experience when in the area. It's in a beautiful location along a breath taking coastal walk and just happens to be apart of The Cliffs Hotel and Spa. It's located right next to several hotels and very easy to get to. Not to mention, prices are fair and worth what you are getting in return! Where do I even begin? There are a few things I look for in a restaurant. Attentive servers, delicious food, and overall vibe/location. So, let's go down the list. 1. Service was impeccable, we were served by Crosby who gave us recommendations, check in on us, and made sure our experience was one to remember. He even offered me (8 months pregnant) a delicious mock-tail which I greatly appreciated. 2. Delicious food... need I say more? The menu has a variety of options but we chose the Brussel sprout starter and for our entrees we had The Cliffs Wagyu Burger & Pork Osso Bucco. We were both speechless after devouring the brussel sprouts, they had a perfect crunch and were sweet and savory. Personally, I had the Pork Osso Bucco and it fell off the bone as I enjoyed it with the mashed potatoes, mushrooms and the french onions... reminded me of the flavors you find in a French onion soup. My husband had the Wagyu Burger and commented on how juicy and flavorful the meat was. 3. The location happened to be right at our hotel (previously mentioned) which was convenient but that's not to down play it. It is beautiful inside and we were able to enjoy the sunset, walking along the coast before enjoying our meal. There are also options to sit outside, near a fireplace, and at the bar if that's what you're going for! Needless to say, our experience was nothing short of fantastic. I went to Marisol for a Christmas Eve dinner. It was the course meal around $85 a plate. We were seated and ordered some drinks. 5 minutes had gone by and I asked my waiter for some bread. HE TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT TIL THE FIRST COURSE. This was roughly 20 min. UNACCETABLE!!! Right after that a family sat down and the waitress brought them bread right away. I asked the waitress why they got theirs immediately. She told me, it was because they paid for it???? Bread comes with the meal.....you don't pay for it. I would of paid for it if that was an option. Terrible service. When it came time to order our meal, my daughters boyfriend asked for his tenderloin steak to be cooked medium. The waiter informed him that he would insult the chef and it could only be prepared med-rare. I then interjected and said, this is BS. He should be able to have the steak prepared however he wanted it. The waiter said, he would see what he could do. The steaks come out and I ask the different server which one was MEDIUM?? She had no clue and no one told her about a preference. We then cut into the meat and it is COMPLETLEY OVERCOOKED!! BEYOND WELL DONE!! This is the stupidest thing ever!!! They just told me they cant make medium and now they burn all 3. He kept his, just to calm me down. My daughter and I sent ours back, because we wanted Med-Rare. It came back the way we wanted. I visited on a whim and decided to try their Wagyu Beef burger. It took an eternity to bring out the burger and it's fries. While there, I was freezing cold, due to the air conditioning being turned on full blast and the windows being open, while cold sea air poured in. The burger arrived, and it was huge, the patty was about 1/2 pound of beef. It was a little over cooked, but was still good. It has bacon on it too. I could say for certain that this Wagyu beef tasted just like ordinary American beef. I could not see how this deserved to be called Wagyu. I also ordered the calmari, it was pretty good too. Amazing view, good food and great customer service. I love going here for brunch. They have some great cocktails that are refreshing when you're looking into the Pacific. It just takes you away. They have heaters of it's a little chilly, and it often can be. Bring some sunglasses and a light cover as the weather can change in an instant. Then they added the cheese cold and crumbled... not even melted.Kind of hard to even give an average rating when at both times on separate occasions the food wasn't properly made. Fortunately the service was the only grace that kept me giving the place a 2 stars. A big star for Trevor, who was a total darling and I felt bad for him having to be the waiter. Wrapped in the folds of her beauty and majesty I am giving myself over to her. I am a guest here at the beautiful Cliffs Hotel, and what an evening it is. Shall we. Sitting on the patio offers the best views of the restaurant and the ocean. I am her guest as the waves crash down below setting the vibe of the evening. The crows and other birds always seem to follow me, so listening to their songs as the sun sets is so ideal. The cold is an issue for me. The more the days go on without heat is an issue. Luckily for my the lively and lovely staff here got ya covered. Their are heat lamps located next to the table, which were not working tonight, so they offered me a cozy blanket to be able and enjoy my dinner out on the patio. That blanket so so soft that it felt like I was wrapped in my beloveds arms. I could feel the warmth to my core. Heater and cozy blankets have enabled us to continue our meal on the patio surrounded by the ocean and setting sun. The atmosphere of the restaurant is so deliriously delightful and alive with life. Although, it's cold the friendliness of the staff is so appealing. I feel like I'm dining with my family in my own home. I do not feel like a customer here, it's like family. The staff is so incredibly vibrant and dynamic. The birds continue to chirp away and chill under my table. It's so surreal and wonderful. The drinks came along in a timely manner after being seated immediately. The clouds continue to dance and dazzle as they move across the horizon with drink in hand I was compelled to try that first sip. The color of my Pacific Paradise Punch Cooler was a deep breath of orange. The oranges that were fresh squeeze for my drink were crisp and fresh with only top shelf tequila and vodkas used. The paradise that is incorporated into every punch cooler is so jubilant. I am over joyed as I sit here and watch the sun set over the most beautiful area in California, my new paradise. The sun plunges into the sea as the moon appears and the stars come out to sparkle over us. It's time for round two of that paradise punch. On to the best part of the meal, no not dessert yet!! I am hangry from that long long drive so I need ReaL goodness inside of me first, then we shall handle dessert. The Blue Cheese Bacon Crumble Burger with Avocado is what's for eating tonight. The blue cheese crumbles on this burger are fresh and could not taste any better. Wow, let's keep going those avocado slices, ridiculously delightful. The freshness of all the ingredients is incredible. THeburger is way to big so I use the knife to cut it in half. Oh as I cut it down the middle, those blue cheese crumbles spill all over the plate. The smells of the burger fill my head and stun me. I cannot wait to have a bite of this mighty burger. Onto dessert, Chai Infused Creme Brûlée, and Hazelnut Mousse. Let's discover our happy and get giddy with that grin that doesn't stop. That's the happy feeling that the Chai Creme Brûlée will bring you. That first bite is so bright and delicious with such a crisp and refreshing flavor. The Chai balances out that Brûlée flavor. It tastes good charred up too. Hazelnut is my happy in a mousse and it's a rich and whip cream that when eaten does not even leave that chocolate afterwards taste that comes from eating mousse. While the desserts change here based on the season the Hazelnut mousse we were told was a delicious flavor always on the menu. If happiness consists in serving and aiding others then come and enjoy dessert here; or wherever your at. Surrounded by some of the best scenes in my life, it's electrifying. Where else can you sit on a cliff above the ocean with a song bird perched right next to ya, except in a movie. It's like that. As the sun sets the mood of day shifts from being alert to the pulsing pleasure of the Stars and Moon that are about to come out. The moon she calls to me, I give myself over to her and we will have dessert under your piercing rays. It's a full moon on this day. The beauty that has surrounded me today was amazing and full of passion. The experience that I had at this restaurant seemed store book like. The restaurant is devoted to the guest in every way. All of the employees are full of such kindness and joy. When I return I will be home again, or at least it feels like home. Come and be hosted by sheer excellence and the utmost expectations. I always found that the best way to find yourself is with helping others selflessly. The staff here give the guest something that cannot be measured with any monetary means. I had just returned home from work and was really wanting to take the wife out for some brunch. It was a beautiful Sunday and decided on Marisol at the Cliffs. It was a busy Sunday and it felt like they were understaffed. We started at the bar while waiting for a table and the service was awesome. After our first round of bloody Mary's, we were seated and ordered a second round with a bowl of chowder to start (which tasted potato heavy, rich, but tasty). The wife ordered the avocado chop and I got the banana bread french toast. Both were a good serving size and tasted excellent. The only downside was that we waited close to 30 minutes for a check and asked for it twice, and ended up walking to the register to pay due to how long it was taking. I came to pismo beach to play golf and was staying at the Cliffs Hotel. Marisol was conveniently located next to the hotel so that's the place to go. They have a nice bar for drinks and watching sports. However, if you want a quiet night of dining, there is a more romantic spot to eat with nice ambience and warm fireplace. The heated bread was delicious start. The clam chowder with garlic bread was outstanding. Chicken wings were adequate. The local cabernet was very full body and warms you up on a cold evening. The dessert, a s'mores "tower," was just a sugar bomb without any nuance whatsoever. I've lived near this restaurant for many years and have visited many times, mostly for drinks but sometimes for food. The view has always been great, the drinks always pretty good, and the service generally mediocre. I had to post this time though after visiting for lunch and drinks with a few friends. We started out sitting outside, ordered a few bloody marys which were quite good. It started getting cold so we asked to be moved inside. No problem. We then sat there for probably 15 minutes without a waitress even looking at us. We finally flagged someone down, who then spent 5 minutes trying to figure out who our waitress was. It was clear they did not know. Our original waitress finally came by to take our order. I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries ($20) and my BF ordered the coco prawns ($16). My burger was ok, not bad but nothing special. The coco prawns were.... bad. It used to be a meal sized portion of delicately battered large prawns. Now apparently it is 3, yes 3 small, very overcooked (almost black) shrimp lying rather unattractively in a pool of red sauce. We figured there had to be some mistake, as who would pay over $5 each for 3 runt sized shrimp. We called the waitress over and she just said "Oh, that's the shrimp trio" and walked away. We looked at the menu, and it didn't say anything about a "shrimp trio". We eventually saw the manager (Erik) and called him over to ask about this "shrimp trio". Erik basically saved the day, and saved the restaurant from a rare 1 star rating, by agreeing that this was a rather pathetic presentation, was indeed very overcooked, and used to be much larger. He offered to take it away and asked my BF if he would like to order something else. He ended up ordering the ahi fish tacos (which were pretty good) and ultimately didn't charge for those. The service by everyone was outstanding, but particularly would single out our server, Mary. A couple of things to note though. First, they don't have a menu the identifies gluten-free items. In fact, Mary could only verify the one salad was gluten-free. Second, be careful with where they seat you outside. The first table to offered us was behind a tent and you couldn't even see the ocean. They were nice enough to relocate us and set a table on the patio by the bar. Food and views are good but it puts a bad taste in your mouth when the service is subpar. We specifically requested reservations for an early dinner bc we have young kids and a party of 7. The young girl at the front desk says not to worry about reservations bc it shouldn't get filled up and it hasn't been very busy. So we arrive early 5:30ish to try and get a table outside and there is no tables available! I ask to talk to the manager in charge and she attempted to seat us at bar tables inside. Well bc we have young kids that didn't work. And bc it was packed she goes on to say "it will be a 45-60 min wait." I told her my frustrations bc if we were able to make reservations like I originally wanted we would'nt be in the situation. She did not apologize or do anything else to mediate the situation. I said fine we will just order take out then. And she handed us menus! And basically that was it! The least she could've done was apologize, try to get the name of the worker and try to say they will work on preventing this to happen in the future. Offer to compensate us for a drink or dessert maybe?!! Nope nothing. Very disappointing last night at the hotel bc we couldn't even dine at the restaurant! I'll start off by saying I really enjoy staying at the cliffs hotel, this location is close in proximity and very convenient. I have found that the items are a tad overpriced considering the lack of quality and lack of portion. The few times I have been there have been during the COVID-19 crisis so I fear my experience might not be that of a normal one. If you do get the chance to sit outside during sunset on the patio it is quite lovely, they have string lights over the tables and plenty of heat lamps to go around. The cleanliness of the place however left much to be desired and could very well used a janitorial crew or Terminix to be frank. And not in any way that would affect the food just cobwebs and such. Could use a little TLC out there on the patio. Service was very lackluster and the food came cold which was very disappointing considering again how much we paid for everything. If I was staying at the hotel again it might be a spot that I will go for an evening cocktail perhaps an appetizer but most likely never again for an actual meal. read more

2.5 at best. For the price point, I'd expect better. I suppose since it is attached to a hotel it does kind of make sense but I've had better in that degree too. There is too much good food in the area that the availability of ubering somewhere would not keep this as a viable solution for food. I had ordered a beet salad and the roasted artichoke flatbread. The beet salad was actually pretty good flavorwise but was so little. I've had the same type of salad, same price point in SF with multiple types of beets and more craftly prepared. Paid a couple bucks more but well, it was a better product overall. The roasted artichoke flatbread was incredibly imbalanced as far as the ingredients and needed something more to be honest. There was too much caramelized onion, not enough roasted garlic, the cheese taste was non existent, and it needed some type of texture difference. The artichoke became somewhat of an afterthought and there are just too many mushy ingredients. Granted, the flatbread itself had a decent crunch but once all of the mushy ingredients coalesced and the liquid seeped into the bread it lost what little luster it had. I'd say if they could round out certain things about the meal it may work, but I still wouldn't pay that much for it. Ambiance is one thing but give me takeout and a giant beach towel and I could probably reproduce the experience elsewhere. read more
