Not that long ago, my Toyota compact sedan was rear-ended by mid-size sedan driven by a student driver who unlawfully did not ride with a licensed passenger (the officer issued him a court date for that offense) while driving in Chapel Hill. The damage done was superficial on my rear bumper but of course I was concerned about any unseen damage. I called the Mark Jacobson Toyota dealer, who has been servicing my car since I moved here for school, to ask if they knew of any good body shops in the area and I was told that they had a body shop offsite. My previous Toyota dealer did not have a body shop so I was pleasantly surprised. Thus, I made an appointment with the body shop to get my car fixed. Getting to the body shop was easy, as it is close to a highway and major road, although it is a little far from their dealership's location. The building itself is a plain industrial looking building with the typical generic reception area with few chairs, a big difference from the more comfortable seating area in the Mark Jacobson dealership. I was welcomed by the receptionist who took my information and I took a seat for a few minutes until I spoke with an employee to discuss what occurred to the car. Since the damage was covered by the other person's insurance, I did not have to worry about cost, even though their prices seemed reasonable. We set up a time that was mutually convenient. The new bumper was installed quickly along with the broken clasps from the collision. The car was washed, which was a nice touch especially since I had planned to get it washed the next day. The sky was overcast, but I thought I inspected the work well. About a week later when I took my car in for routine maintenance at the dealership, I noticed that the bumper was not sitting flush with the car, which I figured was just a misaligned clasp, so I asked that to be taken care of. After maintenance, the tech told me that there was no clasp there to get in the way and that it was likely a bent frame. This is why you don't trust a service tech's word on body issues. I took the car back to the Mark Jacobson Body Shop to have that clasp reseated, and was helped by the same guy as before. Even though I did not have an appointment my car was taken to the back and fixed. I did not even get a chance to finish reading an article as my car was ready in less than 5 minutes. My bumper was as good as new, and perfectly seated. I told the man helping me about what the Mark Jacobson dealership tech said was the problem and we both laughed. Took them two months to fix my car. It could've been done in a week max. When I picked it up and left,the dashboard almost fell on my knees. A woman from the office who had no ideea what happened claimed it wasn't them,although nobody ever touched the dashboard since I bought the car new. No matter where I go with car issues in the last 15 years I find the same level of incompetence. Nobody cares about your cars fellas. They took the time to get to know me as a person and went above and beyond to meet my needs. 0 stars. I dropped my vehicle off for a 9:00 AM appointment with request to complete service by 1:00 PM. At 4:45 PM, after spending nearly 3 hours in the waiting room, I finally find out that they ordered the wrong part and would have to bring it in another day. Here's a recap of the insults that day: 2:00 PM - I haven't heard anything but am hoping to get my car ASAP, as I need to prepare for guests arriving to town. I take the courtesy shuttle back and wait in the waiting room. 3:30 PM - I still had not heard anything so I visited the service desk. I didn't know exactly where to go, and the first two employees I encountered were having a casual conversation about Fossil watches. They made eye contact with me several times and each time continued their conversation. This was strange since I was the only other person in the room with them and standing just feet away. Finally I asked if they could help, and they directed me to Terrie, my "advisor." No one ever told me I had been assigned a specific contact or how to reach them. Terrie said that my car would be ready in a few minutes, and when I pressed him on it he said 30 minutes. 4:00 PM - 30 minutes has passed and still no word 4:30 PM - 1 hour has passed (3.5 hours after it was supposed to be ready), and Terrie finally calls to tell me that they ordered the wrong part. This is the ONLY reason I came for service in the first place, was to have a very simple mirror glass replaced on a side view mirror. But they did not even look at my car until 4:30 PM to determine they had ordered the wrong part. I demanded some sort of compensation. The manager at first offered me "free labor" on the mirror installation, which is insulting for a 10 minute job after I spent 2.5 hours waiting on them and all day for a minor repair. He then offered 1/2 off of that day's inspection and oil change, worth about $45. I accepted that offer, but honestly that is STILL insultingly stingy. Even at my non-profit salary, the time I spent in the waiting room alone is worth $75, not to mention the huge headache and frustration. I will never return for service at this dealership. The Body Shop manager at the time of my repairs was terrible. Julie Rhodes was my contact and she told the insurance company that my vehicle had prior damage, it did not. The trim package on the front of the car had been reset once before because it was loose and needed new clips, but there was no damage. The work was terrible, runs in the paint, spots where there was no clear coat and the manager tried to tell me that it just needed to be waxed in about 6 weeks. Next time I needed service, I used GERBER and they did an amazing job. read more

Poor customer service: never received updates on the work being done, I had to call them each week. The staff acts as though they are doing you a favor by fixing your car when it should be the other way around - they should be thankful for your business. Sloppy work: I had to return the car 3 times to fix the same repair! The 2nd time I returned the car, they neglected to replace a window that should have been on their list. As well, numerous and OBVIOUS scratches on the car that were never buffed out. The 3rd time I returned the car was because the work they did to the roof of the car caused significant water leakage into the trunk area after every rain. Poor attention to detail: I do not understand why the bother to wash your car before returning it to you as if that will somehow cover up the shoddy work they did. The car wash is terrible and streaky. My car looks better dirty than after being washed by Mark Jacobson Body Shop! Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time with Mark Jacobson Body Shop. Go to Gerber instead...the quality of their work is unmatched! read more

Ok, so I don't usually take My car to get serviced at dealership body shop. I Purchased the car from Mark Jacobson - excellent service on the sales end - definitely a go to. I received an offer for 50,000 mile service and thought why not give it a try. Drop off was super efficient (they have a lot of customer traffic & are well equipped for it) & they can even shuttle you to work. I received a call that it was ready rather quickly. The good service ends there. I picked my car up after work and got home and saw that her cat was missing. No big deal right? They must not of put it on their tight just needed to get a replacement so I called my rep and told him what happened and he said to bring it in and they would match it and replace it, easy right? So I head up there, my rep wasn't working, and they proceed to put a hubcap on that they had in stock that was stock for the car but unbeknownst to me whoever owns the vehicle before I did replace the hubcaps so it didn't match. I asked them before I left if they thought that that was necessary fix to the solution all three workers confirmed yes you should just head out with a non-matching hubcaps. OK so the next day I called my rep again and he confirmed that that probably wasn't the right course of action. But basically that they would reimburse me after I located the hubcap replacement for it. Well, I don't know the first thing about hubcaps I don't know where you begin to find them, I don't know measurements etc. etc. and I told him so he offered to do that for me. Nice right?? But also necessary considering they're fixing an issue they caused. I sent him a pic of the current hubcaps. 8 days later i followed up with him to see what the status was- he said he found it but needed to match the size And sent me what I thought was just a pic of the hubcaps. So 21 days later I follow up & I felt he was quite gruff with it me & i guess I'm supposed to facilitate the purchase of the replacement hubcaps & honestly I'm so over dealing with this service department and am going to foot the bill for the hubcaps myself because I have zero interest in dealing with any more crummy customer service. Note to self - always inspect your vehicle very carefully before driving away after having your oil changed. Definitely a learning experience. read more
