I weekly shop at 1900 Main street location in Tewksbury. I find the price label wrong time to time. But I had experience whole new level yesterday. I found the open seal on the market basket brand Greek Yogurt. It was not only sealed, but it was masking tape on the half of the top seal plastic cover. Initially, I did not know what it was and I thought this was just discoloration. I also did not think much about broken seal as well. I assumed that it was broken in the process. I ate some of the yogurt on the first day. The next day I tried to eat them I took a look at them in detail and obviously it was masking tape on the broken seal. Immediately, I took them to the store and tried to alert the store manager. However, the reaction of the store lady ( I assume she is the store manager) made me mad. At least when she heard the story, I was expecting apology. But. she was offering the exchange with cold face. She made me feel as I was doing wrong. She must be confusing that I AM A CUSTOMER HERE!!! At lease what she can do was the apology even before offering the exchange. She definitely has the attitude when she was talking to the complaining customer. How do I know that some gruntle employee put the poison in them or even spat on them. I know that I was not more cautious especially dealing with the food like this. She made my day as whole new level. read more

I'm done with Market Casket and am now doing the bulk of my food shopping at Aldi, Target, and Trader Joe's. This store - like so many other locations- has gone downhill since Artie T. was ousted. Market Basket apparently has no problem replacing familiar American born employees with third world illegals. This isn't so much a problem if they are merely stocking shelves or produce (unless someone can't find something and asks them where it is) but they are now being put on register and bagging duties. Getting someone to bag your items using some common sense was already rare with the American high school kids trying to do it and always failing miserably (I've had my cut watermelon crushed by heavy items) but now they're putting people that can't communicate at all in these roles. I put my frozen/cold items on top of my insulated reusable bag and put this all on the conveyor belt first and the Asian girl that was bagging proceeded to pile other non-cold items into the bag...when I tried to explain to her "just the cold items" she then proceeded to remove the cold items along with the room temperature ones. I wanted to scream. And the kid bagging turned around to help her finish the job (she was extremely slow) and despite seeing two more of my reusable bags right there he grabbed a paper bag and put the rest of my food in that. C'mon, how much common sense does it take to BAG? Also produce prices have really gone up to the point of outrageousness. I can get produce just as good at other stores for way less and I can bag my food the way I want it so it doesn't get ruined. The greed of the Demoulas sisters is going to be the final coffin on this chain and maybe it's just as well. read more

Good store. Friendly helpful staff but the deli is atrocious. Insanely long waits. They often get the amount wrong and even the brand. It's brutal. Just get a ticket and go do your shopping and come back. People sit there losing their minds. Other than that the store is good. read more

Honestly the worst supermarket I've been to. The produce section is a disaster--wilted greens, moldy fruit, and everything looks like it's been sitting out way too long. As for the yogurt selection, unless you're craving the least popular Chobani flavors no one ever buys, don't bother. This place is consistently disappointing. read more

The store brand Popcorn is always stale. Do Not Buy. They mix older popcorn with fresh and it is always BAD. They also use the cheapest popping corn and it is all thick kernal shell after. It is very broken up from handling as well. There is never a use by date and obviously NO quality control. MB would do better as a market and not move into store branding so much. I have noticed the chips and such are very poor quality as well. They are broken and stale as well. Their production vendors for canned and processed food are not good either. For the love of god. Please have better sandwich makers. I've been getting sandwiches here for at least 3 years now, because you know "More For Your Dollar". I'm not asking for much, just someone that can line up the meats in the bun so there isn't a 3 inch meatless oasis on one end of the sandwich. While you're at it, stop burning all the wings! It's all on display for the world to see and it reflects the effort and quality that's put into that counter. I'm heading back there today. Management is incompetent assistants as well. No one is on the same page not one person in front is trained right. Kids like one kid said and I quote I fill it up till you tell me to stop. Another girl hits coupons so she doesn't have to deal with the front end so she can finish orders. Other kids skip items to ringing giving away free product. The front end Will, Liz and Julia do not know who to communicate with one any or to correctly staff there front end. They give kids summers off cause and I quote they needed to train new employees so they left the year long employees have summer off. Any and all the front end staff state to all random customers in basic chatter that they get a week of training and left on own and do not know how to bag groceries let alone count money. U get cans on top of bread with a smile. This store is soiss managed it's unreal. When speaking with and manager they insult you speak over you and make fun of your child, and it all has to do with there incompetence and training methods the store is full of angry untrained people that don't care about there customers or having a job. read more

Not exactly sure when this happened but the kitchen at Market Basket at any location became the best sub shop around The subs are fresh good large sub is enough for lunch and dinner. The chicken Bomb Is amazing, the steak and cheese excellent call ahead ready when you get served it's a breeze I really don't find a need the cook a couple days out of the week The prepared food it's OK still would rather cook my own but very hard to beat their sub's at the price they offered Can't wait until they start to offer delivery......Argentine cowboy's Boston ma...... read more

I want to submit a review for Delores from the Market Basket kitchen in the Tewksbury Oakdale Mall store. She prepared three delicious trays of finger and coldcut sandwiches for me on Sunday. They were all well made and fresh and I could tell how much care was given to the platters and their fixings. The food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by the team and coaches. She was a pleasure to work with and a great employee. She deserves special recognition for her efforts! These store employees are all working hard and don't always get the recognition they deserve. A lot of the newer and more recently renovated Market Baskets are really impressive; this one is about as good as it can be without having a renovation. It's got a few basic specialty stations. It's well lit, and the aisles are really wide. As I've come to expect from the various Market Baskets I've visited, the produce and meat departments are well-stocked, and employees are constantly on the floor stocking, cleaning, etc. As well stocked as it is, the produce and meat are still a bit higher in price than I want to pay. A lot of the front of the store is crammed with tables devoted to junk food - I guess they've cornered the market on packages of sliced pound cake (okay, it's strawberry season, but it was still excessive). All in all, it's a pretty good store. It's not someplace I'd visit every week to do my regular grocery shopping, but I'd definitely go there if it's on my way, or for sale items. read more

Avoid the deli at all costs. I just paid 16$ more for pre packaged meat because of how unbelievably slow the 2 women are behind the counter. It's 745pm on a Tuesday with 2 people in front of me. They spend at least 10 to 15 minutes chatting amongst themselves or shooting the breeze until they simply cut your meat and weigh it. I've been here several times since I just moved to the area and it's the same 2 every time. One is cutting meat and gossiping while the other is "supposedly" cleaning up. They are terrible Im a single father with two hungry 7 year old kids I have to take with me after work which is my only window of time to shop. I'm also on a tight budget but tonight had to go with the most expensive option of cold cuts because I needed to get done before they closed. Please get rid of these employees!! read more

So much bigger and better than the Andover MB. It's organized the opposite of the Andover store though, like a mirror image of it so it was a little confusing at the beginning haha. The only complaint I have was that the 2 times when I went in they didn't have the big boxes of blueberries like the Andover one does. I did seem to find more items here. This is probably one of my least-favorite Market Baskets around, which is a shame considering how conveniently located it is. The parking lot is this monstrous free-for-all with tight, squishy spaces and that awkward road that cuts straight through the middle. Getting in and out of this plaza (and the parking spaces themselves) can be a huge hassle. The store itself is also a bit on the squishy side, and during a Sunday rush it can be stressful to maneuver your cart around tight corners and shoppers with carriage-road-rage. There isn't a lot of space at the back of the store by the deli and fish counter either. This is frustrating when there's a long line of people waiting. However, the most infuriating thing about this Market Basket is how willy-nilly they are with the stock. Like a certain brand of yogurt? Buy several cups then come back next week to get more and whoops--! There's absolutely none in stock. Or even worse: the shelf is full of your yogurt, except every single cup expired two weeks ago. It feels like if Market Basket doesn't get the price they want on what they stock, they simply choose not to buy it, meaning you could go weeks (sometimes months) without finding what you're used to buying just because MB decided not to buy it. Granted if this is how they work it'd make sense that it allows them to keep low prices, but it can be absolutely awful when you're limited in what you can eat and that *one* brand of sour cream that you can eat hasn't made an appearance on the shelf in two months. Younger employees are rude and unprofessional (not all, of course). I called up asking if they carried glass pie plates and was assured they did. I went in to pick one up and couldn't find any, went to the customer service booth and was ignored for several minutes while the girls admired someone's new ring, only to be told (after an annoyed sigh--yes, I'm so, so sorry I interrupted you while you were admiring someone's jewelry) that nope, there were no pie plates and that they've never carried them. The new Wilmington Market Basket is only a few miles away, and it is a much better shopping experience! I would not recommend this location if you can help it. read more

Being from central Texas I'm used to HEB. HEB is a chain of supermarket that I've been going to since I was born and I'm used to their layouts, brands, and style of supermarket. Honestly, I seriously miss HEB. The love fest aside, Market Basket isn't horrible. I really enjoy this Market Basket over the other one closer to my house (in North Andover). This MB has the lighting just right, and I really like how their floral department and produce area is presented. The layout in the produce area could definitely use some work seeing as how people bump into each other quite frequently and the aisles are barely two carts wide. The rest of the store is also laid out a bit wonky to what I'm used to. Examples: hair care and body care are in the middle of the store as are the the cleaning supplies, and the hair care doesn't have as much product breath and depth. I have issues with the fact that MB (as a chain) has their personnel stocking during the middle of the day...even on the weekend. That's just poor management in general. Have your stockers refill the shelves at night when there are no more customers in the store. Being at the supermarket on a weekend during the rush is bad enough, but maneuvering a cart around three old ladies AND a pallet of ramen is just annoying. Overall, 4 stars for being stocked well, and for the fact that i don't feel like shooting myself when I come into this location. read more

Market Basket is cheap,and you always get more for your money. But here any day is a zoo in there. And most of the customers think they can do whatever they want to get whatever they want. It's awful. I try to stay positive when I shop here, as again I know I am saving money but it's so hard to appreciate that when there are other customers using their kids as shields to move thru an already crowded store. The staff is great, for the most part, I have run into a few who are less than desirable for many different reasons but that's retail. You can't even get into line at the deli or seafood department because there are 100 people standing around just bullying their way thru, and even to get a simple thing like milk turns into a UFC battle. I have seen people literally bully thru to get deals and seem to have no respect for anyone around them and the staff who is generally very helpful can't do anything. They aren't referees after all. So before lamenting further about the crowds, I guess I'll sum up by saying that the prices are great, the staff is good considering the circumstances, but the crowds are awful. Try to go at a less peak time. It's a bit less crowded and people seem to get along better when they have room to breath. read more

LOVE THE BASKET! Shopping here is the best. It's not fancy like Whole Foods, but you can get the same stuff for way less. Groceries are cheaper and the staff is helpful. Coming here on a weekend is like a zoo, so visit on a weekday and you'll be fine.. 7:00am is the best! I like the precooked chickens, they're quick and easy. I usually eat them hot for dinner, then turn them into chicken salad, and then I boil the bones for chicken soup. Best $4.49 you'll ever spend! My only complaint is that all of the seafood has additives. I was excited to see frozen wild caught salmon, but it has an additive so I'm not going to get it. read more

I tried Instacart at Market Basket and was very disappointed. For example a gallon of poland spring water is normally 99 cents to 1.29. It was 3.19. Unsalted peanuts normally 5.99. same bag 7.99. Limited item also from Instartcart from MArket Basket store. Things I buy all the time certail pizza dough organic not available. No shady Brook Turkeys.... I grew up with this supermarket chain and was lucky enough to grow up in Tewksbury where the headquarters is located. This review is for Market Basket as a company not just this Tewksbury location. Market Basket or Demoulas like a lot of locals still call it provided most of the area teens their first jobs as baggers or cashiers and continues to do so. The bakery is great and their is never a time that I have gone that I do not find warm bread and a great variety of baked goods, donuts, pies and cakes. The deli is diverse and has a huge variety with great prices. The Market Basket butchers in the meat and poultry section are great and if you need a special cut, just ask them and they will do what they can to complete your request. Market Basket supermarkets also have a good variety of seafood and fish from which to select. For the lobster and crab lovers, you won't regret stopping in. Lastly, the supermarket does a good job surveying the local demographic and will stock their international section to reflect the area's makeup. Very cool. I still love coming here to shop when I'm up to visit. read more

Their entry way is disgusting. It should be sweet and fresh smelling but instead smells like the bottom of a trash barrel. The outside by the barrel smells the same but the air carries that away. There are no barrels inside the entry way to smell but you can see the stains all over the floor. I throw up in my mouth every time I go in there. Been like this for years. Clean the damn place people They will vacuum the parking lot for trash but allow their store to smell like a swamp??? I shop at Hannafords now as they are much cleaner, they don't choose to leave pallets in the middle of the aisles (do stock at night like everyone else), the shoppers are much classier there. They weed out the ignorant MB fools. On a few times I ran in for milk or another single item and once I smell that area it turns me off, makes me wonder about the freshness of the food I'm gonna buy. Oh, how I missed these guys while the dispute was going on. The same jar of olives at Stop and Shop costs twice as much. I asked the kid at Stop & Shop "Why are your lobsters are twice as much as Market Basket?" He said "Ours are fresher." I replied "How do you get fresher than alive?" He couldn't answer that one. They have the Scrub Free Daily Shower Cleaner that is always sold out at Walmart, and at the exact same price. And the scolloped potatoes are the same price as they are at BJ's but I don't have to buy a 6 pack of them. read more

Probably the worst shopping experience of my adult life. I was sent to pick up a few items for an older family member who swears by this place and wanted very specific items. So I go, thinking I'm a shopping pro and that I can be there and back quickly. Nothing could have prepared me for the hell I was about to endure. The parking lot was one cluster after another. That should have been the first tip that this was not going to go well. The aisles are entirely too narrow for easy navigation. I couldn't find the very specific items I was sent for so i asked for some help but got a blank stare- like "how can you expect me to find that" kind of look. So helpful. In this day and age, is there ANY reason for long lines? Even with all lanes open? Why were there so many people? There was no snow storm, no hurricane or other occurrence to cause mass purchases. Is this the ONLY grocery store in all of Tewksbury? The rest of the customers looked as miserable as I felt. One actually hit me with her cart because I apparently was in her way and instead of saying "excuse me" she thought it appropriate to ram me. Sigh. One star for moderate prices and a decent selection but I will not be going back to this location. Ever. Don't ask me - the answer will be no. read more

I like this place. The employees are friendly and fun. The parking lot is not great. I always park far away closer to Main Street. The produce is great. Great selection of fresh bread. I don't love the meat department-but I am picky with my brands. Also like the selection of market basket brands. I never go after 5pm. That is crazy time - but that is not the employees fault. New to the area and overall I am a fan of market basket. read more

I laugh at all of the negative reviews about Market Basket. If you grew up north of Boston, you know shopping at MB is another world experience. Some tips... Don't go on weekends in the middle of the day - your loss. I would recommend early evenings or as soon as they open on Saturday or Sunday... Don't spend a half hour waiting at a full deli counter. They preslice popular meats and cheeses ahead of time... Navigate the lanes aggressively but with caution around the corners - God forbid you should hit an old grandmother or block a soccer Mom in her tracks... Read the aisle signs if you can't find items. Don't rely on the high school aged stocking staff to help you. Be wary of their bagging skills too... You're going to get some great prices here, way better than Stop & Shop, Hannaford's, or Wegmans. Just be vigilant and steadfast and you'll make your DeMoulas experience a slightly pleasant one. More For Your Dollah Make Ya Hollah! read more

I went here despite all the negative reviews because I generally like to judge things for myself, and I'm glad I did. The absolute worse I can say about this experience is 1 yes the other customers are rude (not all but at least 65% could use a class in manners) however this isn't the stores fault so I can't hold it against them. 2 yes the employees stocking the shelf are in the way, sometimes I had to get out of their way, but how else will the food get to the shelves for you to buy it? Overall I found they had good prices, great selection and it was fairly easy to maneuver through the store (again with the exception of other shoppers...NOT the stores fault blame your fellow man) there was only one item I wanted I didn't find, which again I don't blame the store for, it happens to be a hard to find item. I would say maybe the other people rating had a bad day or bad experience but at 1pm on a Friday it was definitely a good shopping experience for me! read more

This store closed in June 2010. No great loss other than the fact there's only one grocery store in Andover now, a cramped Whole Foods with Cambridge prices. The bought the best seedless watermelon I've ever had today!!! Well, it was seedless AFTER I pulled the hundreds of seeds out. I can understand there is no way of knowing if it's truly seedless but this has happened a half of dozen times over the last few months. It's my own fault for keep going back. It was simply convenient so I went. I think it's bush league business practices to charge a premium for seedless when you are getting a basic with all seeds. Never once has this happened at Shaw's, S&S or Hannafords. Maybe they take more pride in what they sell, or maybe they are more honest. Oh, and it was moldy after I cut it into pieces, but there was no extra charge for the mold........ read more
