Our local Nordstrom closed and with it, my beloved Nordstrom cafe. I was excited to see one nearby to the hotel I was staying in while in town for business so, after a long day and not feeling well, I trekked over to this spot for a quiet dinner. Service was extremely friendly and they checked on me often. I went with a small chicken noodle soup and the salmon entree. The Salmon was pretty good but it was very oily and greasy. One of my favorite hidden eateries. This cafe' tucks into a beloved store, Nordstrom's. The immediate greeting by a staff of 3-4, including the manager, was exuberant and welcoming which is delightful. The warm reception combined with the food made a significant impact on my decision to order to-go and make plans to eat there on- site. There are garages outside of 2 Nordstrom entrances. They validate parking vouchers. I had a lovely salad for lunch here this week. The greens were super fresh, I liked the variety of veggies and crunchy additions, and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The price is a little high, but a nice place for a work lunch. read more

I had two fabulous lunches there while in that area for a family wedding. It's a great place to eat when you want something fabulous to eat while solo or with friends/family in a casual, pleasant, relaxing environment. The music volume level is always just right for quiet conversation. It's a little tasty food oasis within the mall that saves you long waits at restaurants or the craziness of the food court. And if you like to eat alone sometimes like I do, it's the perfect place to do that and not be bothered. You order at the counter as you enter, and I love being able to see some of the food specials prepared and presented in a little display there. Then you go to your seat and the server will bring your food and drink. On my second visit I had the pleasure of getting to talk to CJ at the register as I ordered and he was everything I love about Nordstrom: knowledgeable, personable, fun, and classy. He helped me select absolutely delicious items: a chicken pot pie cup of soup, a Caesar salad with blackened wild salmon, and a lemon ricotta cookie special. It was all so good that I also ordered a cheddar herb biscuit to go to take with me on my plane ride home (and that was amazing also). I remember when I was in High School, Nordstrom Cafe was the bougie thing to do with the girls. Fast forward to now, it's still a thing to do. At least with my girls. Nordstrom's has a personal shopper experience now and for those who want to shop in private, and eat without the hustle of going in Pentagon City Mall, then "Marketplace Cafe" is the way to go! I didn't catch when they changed their name but it will always be Nordstrom Cafe to me. Food is still great and service is fantastic. The service was excellent and still exudes fine dining in a causal setting. Love it! Let's Get Into It! Complimentary Bread - YUMMERS! I love a good roll, carb me UP! Turkey and Avocado Club - Delicious met expectations! Simple Salad with Chicken - Delicious met expectations. Wine selection is limited but I didn't complain with my white wine that I chose. Unfortunately I don't remember what brand it was but it was good. I know Bethesdas Market Cafe has a Happy Hour/Bar and cannot remember if Pentagon City location does! I have frequent the café for over the last eight years. Went in this past Thursday and placed an order for pasta and a salad. Requested no bacon in my pasta, but bacon was in the pasta. The Cobb salad comes with chicken, no chicken was on the salad when I made it home. Of course, I went to the cafe at the end of the day and they were closing. However, I noticed a change with the cashiers, often a manager, who has a difficult time making sure the order is correct if you're requesting any alterations to the menu (no bacon, no cheese, etc.). Food is good but a little bit on the pricey side. I had the wild salmon & couscous and it was excellent. One of my favorite dishes but the portion was small for the price I paid ($25.50). For that price they could have included mashed potatoes or a few roasted potatoes. I would suggest providing a bigger portion or lowering the cost by a couple of dollars. Having said that, the salmon was delicious and perfectly prepared but not for a diner with a larger appetite. read more

I stopped in the Nordstrom cafe for a dessert. They had a white chocolate bread pudding on display so I tried that. OMG! It was delicious! The pudding was a perfect consistency and the crust was even good. I really enjoyed it! The only thing that would've made it better is a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Even though we i only ordered dessert the waiters were as attentive as usual. I'm definitely going to stop by to get it again! read more

This is the Nordstrom Cafe and it is a hidden gem! Forget the food court! Definitely come here any time you are at the mall! Top notch service (server Driss) plus great food in a relaxing environment--the perfect antidote to any hectic trip to the mall! Food came out quickly as well. We always go to this place whenever we visited Tyson's Corner. The place, food, staff are great. Today, they messed up our food and the manager (Jamie) resolved the issue with ease and professional. This is why we always go there. Additionally, Gregg (staff member) was so courteous and very polite, I'm glad Jamie only hires great people. You should try this place when you get the chance. It seems funny writing a review for Nordstrom Café (marketplace café), but it seemed even stranger that my friend chose this venue for lunch in DC with a plethora of other dining choices around. I deferred to her as over the last 20 years I've heard people talk about the food being good at Nordstrom. You order at a counter and then you find a place to sit....a nice booth in our case. My friend did note the dust on the ledges around the booth. However, the service was excellent, our glasses constantly refilled, and the food arrived quickly. Surprisingly, my shrimp arugula salad was extremely well prepared and delicious. Expertly grilled jumbo shrimp sat on top of a lightly dressed citrus vinaigrette over arugula. The polenta bites were not bad and an interesting twist on croutons. All the salads cost about $16 and while that seems a tad steep, based on the taste and portion I think it was priced fairly. read more

The hardest thing about this Nordstrom Cafe is finding it. We literally almost gave up and just ate somewhere else. "Go on without me... *huffs*" If they're trying to make it an exclusive Nordstrom hideaway that is only discoverable to their most dedicated customers - they've done a spot on job. If that's not the case... I suggest they maybe put some signage somewhere. Or at least hand us a treasure map at the entrance to Nordstrom. I guess this is the place where I should help you as a future consumer find it. Ok... you know that Cave in the Netflix series Dark where you have to follow the red string attached to that dragon ring, and then you need a geiger counter in which you follow the radiation to that ancient metal door. It's basically like that. Go to the top of Nordstrom and then go towards... the side that... doesn't have Nordstrom Cafe on it. It's in a weird nuk/cranny. But the store is split up really weird into like octogons, and I can barely remember which direction we went. Anyways... my overall my experience once I found it was VERY pleasant though. The woman at the front was very nice who took our order. Service throughout the meal was excellent. They gave us the signature Nordstrom Cafe long chocolate mint stick thing at the end. My quiche was SOOO quiche. #Ja'mie The tomato basil soup was very legit. The booths are basically the softness of an inflatable couch. That was unique. I mean... there was absolutely nothing wrong with my Nordstrom Cafe experience. And I'll be honest, we went when it opened at 11am. But it was the slowest Nordstrom Cafe I've ever been to. Which is not great for them... but mean't that we got exactly the seating we wanted, and also the service was attentive, and the food was quick to come out. I love me some Nordstrom Cafe. Honestly, I truly wish that someday I'll be one of the old queens that goes there and gabs with their friends every Tuesday for lunch before shopping at Nordstrom. Everyone has goals in life. The executive chef and my server deserves 5 stars for their vision and customer service. The french onion soup was a pleasant surprise, as good as ones served at the average french bistro in Paris. Not as good as La Chaumiere only because it has less cheese and was slightly too salty but that's forgivable for department store dining. The Santa Fe panini is normally a favorite of mine but the execution is inconsistent. If only, they can get the proportion of ingredients right every time and make sure they don't leave out the hot sauce and that the panini should come out hot and crispy then it would be perfection. The Caesar salad really needs to be handled with more care. Doused in sauce makes it way too limp and salty. Cut cost and increase taste by cutting back the dressing and parmesan. (See pic). I love this place for a quick sandwich or a big salad or entree. You pay up front, then staff bring you drinks, meal, and a little chocolate for dessert. It's good value for the money, and you can get your parking validated right at the cash register. (No waiting in line!) The food is still quite good however, the customer service has gone down and the prices increase. I often see employees chatting with each other while customers wait in line. It took a day to get a response to email and the response did not include an answer to the question. Nordstrom please step up. I want to enjoy you again. Fantastic! This cafe is a gem inside of the Nordstrom at pentagon city. It's located in the third floor near the kids department. I stop here every time I go to this mall. It's a required stop! The portions are great for the price, and the food is high quality. I have yet, to be disappointed. The salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta and desserts are delicious! For what it is and given its location, Nordstrom Cafe is a solid lunch choice if you find yourself at the mall and want to forgo the food court. The price, however, is excessive IMO for what you get and given that, technically, it's more "fast casual" than waiter service. Two salads with chicken and two iced teas came to $45. My mom and I both ordered the same salad-berry salad with added grilled chicken. Blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries made up said berries in addition there was goat cheese, grilled chicken ($4.50 extra), and spiced pecans with champagne vinaigrette. When our salads were brought out, my mom's was chock full 'o goat cheese, chicken, and berries while mine had one measly piece of goat cheese, a few sad slices of chicken, but was plentiful with the berries. I've had the goat cheese, apple, and chicken salad and have had a good experience with that meal as well. Nordstrom Cafe definitely beats the food court and was perfect for a light (although not necessarily on your wallet) lunch. read more

I enjoyed lunch at Nordstrom Café today. First, the cashier was super nice and helpful. I had the chicken, fresh mozz ciabatta with a side salad and Sangria!!! The sandwich was delicious-a good amount of veggies (arugala, tomato and more), fresh mozzarella and pesto. The Parmesan ciabatta was just right--slightly crunchy, but still easy to chew. The side salad was great too. It had healthy mesclun greens and a balsamic vinaigrette that was delicious. The Sangria was quite good too. (I liked that they had it in a large "pitcher" with fresh fruit. It was not coming from one of those glass bottles labeled "sangria." The waiter was outstanding, and consistently checked on me and offered me dessert. The food could be considered pricy, but for the DC area, I think it was reasonable. $10 for sandwich and around 8 for the Sangria. (I don't remember the exact price. Definitely a great place to go and enjoy a healthy lunch in a peaceful, nice environment! (Unlike the 1st floor loud food court area at this mall) read more

The kitchen was very slow today even though the number of customers seemed about average. But they "made up for it" by getting my order wrong. The register receipt clearly said "no peppers, no potatoes, extra vegetables" but it appears that neither the kitchen nor the server read it. Otherwise, the Tuscan salmon was good. The Roma tomato basil soup is excellent and comes with a crostini. Salads and pasta are okay. The old sandwich menu was better than the current offerings. This place was actually a pleasant surprise. My expectations were definitely low going in and I was exactly excited by the menu here. The ambiance / decor isn't anything write home about. It's a total basic cafe. The service, though, was great. The process is that you wait in line (if there is one) to order at the counter. You then seat yourself at a table. A server then comes over and takes your receipt. This server then brings out your food, refills your drinks, etc. The food was good. It wasn't great. I wouldn't make a special trip back here for anything. But it was certainly better than anything else I've ever eaten at this mall. We tried a lot of items, including the tomato soup, potato soup, cheese board, ham and cheese sandwich, chicken pasta, salmon, and a variety of desserts. The tomato soup was delicious. The potato soup was bleh. The cheese board was typical. The ham and cheese sandwich was tasty. The chicken pasta was quite nice. The salmon was decent. The desserts were great. All in all, we had a good and filling meal. But again, not really worth a special trip or anything. And there wasn't anything that left me craving for me. But if you're shopping at Pentagon City and want to eat, skip the food court and come here instead - you won't be disappointed. read more

Next time you shop at Pentagon City Mall, skip Panda Express and come to the Marketplace Cafe at Nordstrom. Yes, I bet you didn't know there was a cafe inside this multi-level store. Not only is the service quick, but the food is extremely high quality. My multi-course meal consisted of Cheddar and Chive Biscuits, Roma Tomato Basil Soup, Spicy Wild Shrimp Pomodoro, Grilled Skirt Steak Chimichurri, Almond-Crusted Raspberry Cheesecake, Creme Brulee, French Press Coffee, and a rose tasting. For a starter, I highly, highly recommend the Roma Tomato Basil Soup as it was thick and creamy, with the right amount of tomato flavor, but the best accompaniment was the cheese crostini for dipping (ask for a side of those!). Entrees were solid. The Spicy Wild Shrimp Pomodoro had plentiful and plump shrimp, which I really appreciated, as well as texturally satisfying chitarra -- imagine spaghetti, but square-cut. The sauce was indeed spicy, as well, so no need to add extra hot sauce in case you love spice as much as I do. The winner of the night was the Great Steak Chimichurri. I requested this medium rare, but hesitantly so since, most times, medium rare comes out medium. Surprisingly, it was a true medium rare. The chimichurri sauce was on point, and went so well with the potatoes, asparagus, and carrots. Desserts are not to be skipped here! I recommend the Creme Brulee as it is perfectly torched and is of the correct consistency. It's topped with a blackberry and mint leaves. The Almond-Crusted Raspberry Cheesecake is completely gluten-free, so a great option for those with Celiac Disease. Anasse was our main server, and could not have been more friendly and punctual. The manager, Kris, also came out numerous times to ensure our my party's experience was top-notch. Prices here are moderate, but they are justifiable with the food quality and service you receive. I will return the next time I'm at Pentagon City Mall, even if I didn't have plans to shop at Nordstrom. read more

Whenever I come to Pentagon City, I forgo the food court and choose the Nordstrom Cafe. Today tried the special. It was a chicken pasta and mushroom dish. I did not like it and returned it for the Chicken Tortilini. Much better. Ordered and paid for two Lemon Ricotta Cookies. They gave my cookies to another customer and I had to get a refund. This and a Chinese restaurant in Crystal City were the best restaurants we went to while visiting Washington recently. What made this one so good? The friendliness of the service, cleanliness and quietness of the place, and the good, wholesome food. The way it works is you order your food at the counter, and they bring it to you when it's ready. The first night we ate there I had the wild salmon nicoise salad. The greens were fresh, the salmon delicious, and the dressing was perfect. The second night we visited I had the chicken cheese tortelloni, which was nicely done. Both times we experienced very friendly service. The best thing is that it was such a welcome respite from the hordes of field tripping eighth graders who had taken over the Fashion Centre Mall at Pentagon City. (Yes folks, if you visit Washington in late May/early June, you will be accosted by eighth graders from all over the country who are ostensibly there to experience American history, but are really there to go wild in a city away from Mom and Dad!). None of them were in the restaurant! They had taken over the food court and nearly every other store in the mall with their obnoxious, inconsiderate, loud, middle school hormones of hiked up shorts, MAGA hats, and boisterous bragging. I had the Shrimp Louie salad and it was really, really good. I thought--this is huge, no way can I finish it. I did. I think it was $12? Not bad. You order at the register and then sit down, and a server comes to give you bread, water, ask if you want refills, etc. It's not full service, but that's fine--and my guy was really working it, so I gave him a decent tip. Stupid Pentagon City parking garages detract from the experience. I hate them! read more

I'm torn on giving this 3 stars or 2. Reasons it deserves a 3: It is within walking distance fro my apartment and they serve good wine. And dessert. And wine. You can find seating that makes you think you're not actually still in the mall. Did I mention they serve wine at the mall? Reasons it deserves a 2: The cashier actually made me wait to order while he talked to a girlfriend or boyfriend on his cellphone, letting them know he was too busy to talk. Yeah, ok. After ordering wine and dessert, it took 15 minutes for the waiter to bring it to me. It's not like they actually cooked anything. Do you know how awkward a single woman sitting in the mall cafe feels without anything in front of her? Yeah, my cell phone died and yet I still stayed out, a brief respite from the kids. I know I mentioned you could find a seat that made you think you weren't actually sitting in the mall, however, I wound up sitting in the front table with a lovely view of the children's clothing section because every single other table in the cafe was covered in dirty dishes. Nothing like dining alone at a single table, basically on display, sipping wine and eating dessert, trying to forget about the rough day you had with the kids while looking at even more kid's apparel while other mommy's wrangle their own monsters. Been coming here for a few years now,so I'm pretty much a regular customer.However,had a kinda weird experience today.The service was great and the food was yummy! But when I was eating my penne Bolognese,I had a forkful and was ready to eat it,but then found a metal twist tie inside my pasta,good thing I noticed or I would've choked on it.(idk how the chefs could let that happen)My server was so amazing! He of course apologized and had them redo it.He even gave me extra bread while I was waiting for my redo.I got my second one and thoroughly checked to see if everything's was good and thankfully it was! The pasta has such excellent flavor and the ingredients were executed right,the sauce was my favorite part of the dish,absolutely delicious! After I finished my meal,my awesome server gave me a couple of complimentary chocolate chip cookies as an apology for the incident(which were fresh & warm out of the oven) they were so good,some of the best cookies I've had:) he's been working there for awhile and I've always had him pretty much all the times I've been there,he never disappoints .overall besides the twist tie incident I had a great experience at Nordstrom cafe and can't wait to go back again.Highly recommend this location mostly cuz of the awesome service,the foods great too,just gotta watch :) read more
