When we stopped here we were at the tail end of our California roadtrip meaning all of our meals were either fast food or high-end/trendy restaurants. This was right in-between and honestly one of our best meals of the whole trip. We got a mix of salmon, steak, and chicken kabobs and everything was well-flavored, moist, with tons of crunchy, craggly pieces on the edges. I had to stop my eight-year old daughter from licking her plate, it was that good! The owners were right up front, making jokes with their customers, speaking with delivery people, and overseeing the operation. We came here with out of town family And we were simply blown away! Troy and his entire staff were so inviting and friendly; we got seated waiting for the rest of our party. Troy came and cleaned up our table, set out place mats and silverware and made sure the heaters were placed well so we could stay nice and comfortable. We ordered a whole bunch of food, an artichoke, chicken soup, a lamb bowl, salmon bowl, a wrap, and a few more things. Troy brought out hummus complimentary which was so unexpected. It felt like we were guests in his home. The food was packed with flavor, hot and we all (including the kiddos) eat it right up! I came to Marketplace Grille today for the first time since 2019 and was so happy that it was still the amazing food I remembered. I told my co-worker that outside of my Mom's home cooked food, this is easily top 3 Mediterranean restaurants in San Diego. I highly recommend the chicken plate or bowl. They cook the chicken kabob on coals, and it's phenomenal. I would get the herb rice, and always get the side of hummus with the pita bread. It is amazing hummus. So disappointed. As you walk up, the aroma from outside immediately have your mouth watering. Inside, basic counter service, and a very basic menu that really doesn't describe everything, but you could see a gentleman cooking the fantastic, smelling meat over hot coals-off to a great start! We ordered the soup of the day, a chicken vegetable, an order of baba ganoush, a small Greek salad, and a lamb wrap. The soup was decent and tasted homemade. The baba ganoush tasted over lemony and not very smoky. Greek salad was dressed well, but missing a couple key ingredients (to me, in a greek salad, like cucumbers). The lamb wrap was blah. Not very much meat, didn't taste like lamb (or even a lamb/beef mix), nor did it have any wood fired taste. Service was friendly and its open patio seating so there were LOTS of dogs. Got the chicken wrap, which I actually thought the chicken was pretty moist and flavorful but lots of iceberg lettuce and bland sauce I didn't care for. I somehow forgot to take a pic before I ate so I will do my best to describe the delectable meal I ate at Marketplace today. I got the salmon crispy bowl with herbed rice. This included an edible bowl made out of crispy lavash bread that was layered with herb rice, lettuce, shirazi salad, babaganoush (garlicky eggplant dip) and salmon. First of all, the salmon was cooked to perfection. So tender and flavorful. The babaganoush was delish, not to mention the herbed rice. It's fragrant long grain basmati rice cooked with a variety of fresh green herbs. The portions are super generous and the service is five star--especially for a place that has no tables inside! It's almost a self serve type of restaurant but the staff is super friendly and accommodating. We dined on the outdoor patio (the only place you can sit). There were plenty of tables with umbrellas which were great to shade the sun. Note you have to ask for a key if you need to use the restroom. Also, there are limited parking spaces so wear comfy shoes as you might have to walk a few blocks. Finally, there's a great liquor store in the same strip where you can get lotto tickets :) read more

I had issues with the amount of meat they served, but then most quick-serve mediterranean places are really more into the veggies and rice anyway. Everything tasted good here..we got the chicken kabob plate, lamb kabob, shrimp plate, shrimp wrap and baba ganoush. The herb rice was totally worth coming back for. The servers were very friendly. They don't serve dessert, which was disapppointing because their online menu featured bhaklava..but the next door restaurant offers some desserts, so all went well. My husband and I have been enjoying this restaurant since we moved to San Diego 23 years ago. The food is fresh and extremely tasty and the service is excellent. I'm one of those more difficult customers. You know the ones with lots of special requests. No mayo, no pickles, no bread, dressing on the side... you get the idea. This place always gets my order right. It's not just because I've been eating here for so long. It does not seem to matter whether the cashier knows me or not. The order is always correct. As for details about the food. I used to always get the filet mignon wrap sandwich. Yummy! One day the manager noticed that I was leaving most of the bread untouched on my plate. He suggested I try it on a bed of lettuce. Now that is how I order it every time. It comes with plenty of fresh veggies and a delicious dressing that I'm sure they make themselves. My husband usually gets the salmon bowl. It's always cooked perfectly and is incredibly tasty. The bowl comes with their herb rice which may be the best rice I've gotten anywhere in town. I'm guessing it's cooked with butter? It is superb. Along with the salmon and rice, the bowl has a very good tabouleh which when combined with the rice is a treat for your taste buds. The shop in La Jolla has a good number of well spread apart, outdoor tables, with nice shade umbrellas. They have hand sanitizer at the cash register. A pretty hidden spot in my opinion; I've lived near La Jolla most of my life and heading down La Jolla Village towards Girard I probably passed this place dozens of times. I only visited when my fiancé recommended the place, and boy am I glad I did. This is the sort of fast casual middle eastern place that fits the needs of so many types. While I've tried many things my favorite (and regular) order is their salmon bowl; their shirazi salad is delicious, vinegary and has a fantastic fresh taste, they have amazing brown rice and veggie combo as the base and I have no idea how or why their salmon is so good but I know seafood restaurants that don't do it as well. Their tabbouleh is supposedly good (according to family, I don't like it anywhere so I'll take their word for it) and their Tony's special is also a great mixture of food for a good price. I also recommend getting the grilled corn which is always sweet and smoky, and their baba and hummus are delicious and fresh. Don't make the mistake of flying by this place on the way to downtown La Jolla. Stop by, and have a bowl. You won't be disappointed. read more
