Arslan's Gyros is the only place in San Diego where you can get your hands on some of the best gyros - AND Bosnian ćevapi! Ćevapi is little minced meat kebab that originated in former Yugoslavia during the Ottoman era as a quick meal on the go. They serve it with this delicious soft bread, clotted cream (kajmak), ajvat (a dip made from eggplant and sweet peppers), and diced onions. You can dive face first into it like a sandwich the way Stephen does, or you can tear off pieces of bread with individual pieces of meat, add a little onion, and dip. We had seen this on so many travel videos but could never find a place to try it, so we're thrilled we have a local spot now and it's even better than we imagined! The Gyros are done so well here too. They use all halal meat, and the portions are huge. We also shared a meze platter with hummus, falafel, dolma, and spanikopita which was super fresh and delicious. They're located right across from the beach in Pacific Beach, and on a hot humid day, their watermelon slush is essential. All natural fruit! There's seating inside and they keep it nice and cool, but there's patio seating as well if you wanna feel the ocean breeze. Not authentic! Who in the world puts lettuce on a Gyro??? That absolutely ruins the sandwich. Cucumbers, Onions and Tzatziki sauce are typical but not with lettuce, ask anyone? Furthermore. they were thick little pieces. and, it tasted a a little greasy, The gyros was not thinly sliced or shaved off the vertical rotisserie as it should be. If I ran this business, I would have a line outside the door. Not impressed at all with a business that's been here for many years, that doesn't get it. It's too expensive for a faulty sandwich. I ordered the chicken gyro (and got the regular gyro to go for my family). Layla was incredibly generous. But it tasted really good with a good mix of soft and crispy pieces. $22 but a good sized plate. Husband got the same thing. He ate all his. I had a little rice and meat leftover. I love Arlan's! Their gyros are slightly different than what I'm used to, and they quickly became my favorite gyro in the San Diego area. Staff is always friendly and sometimes they give a falafel sample (yummy!) I've passed by Arslan's Gyros a few times while walking through Mission Beach and so happy I decided to stop and try it! Since I am vegan I ordered the Ved's Appetizer Combo, which came with a massive portion of falafel, hummus, & pita bread. Everything was amazing! I am not a fan of some falafel, however Arslan's are not dry at all and so flavorful. The fries are seasoned and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Gyro and really enjoyed his as well! In addition to the tasty food, staff is friendly and attentive. Arslan's also has an option to dine inside if it gets too chilly! Everything is excellent at this humble gyros spot on Mission Blvd. The Balkan style service was very friendly and helpful. The gyros sandwich is very flavorful; the chef told me she adds additional spices to the traditional blend. So it's kind of a doener-inspired gyros? Anyway, it is delicious. They even gave me an extra container of that white sauce (tzatziki?) after I used the first one before I finished my gyros. And the sandwich was very big. Either bring a friend or a big appetite. The flatbread was super fresh and perfect for the gyros. I asked them if they make vegetarian food, like a Greek salad, and they said if you call ahead they can make pretty much anything for that kind of cuisine. Off menu service is not a problem. Went to leucadia farmers market and saw their food Stand. It was run by two women and they were absolutely amazing! Great customer service and just so kind. They really held it down.
