This place is great. I saw a promotion on postmates for buy 1 fried rice get 1 free. So my roommate and I both ordered it. We got 2 shrimp and 2 chicken. Good sized portions and sooo good. The chicken one had a slight kick to it. Nothing crazy but def couldn't give it to my roommates 4 yr old. Very flavorful. The worker was very pleasant when we picked up our order. 3.5 stars for Cali Social Four of us met on Sunday night to celebrate a birthday. We all parked on Garnet without too much difficulty. We stepped into the former "World Curry" space and noted that it looks completely different than it did before. White walls, turquoise table tops, dark chairs & pops of color have all been blended together to make an airy & welcoming dining area. We loved that the garage door was open and allowed fresh air to flow throughout the space. The menu is a fusion of mostly Indian dishes with a taste of Thai & other flavors, and there is a wide variety of offerings with reasonable prices. (Most entrees are under $20 even with protein added.) No alcohol is served currently, but they do have some mocktails & other beverages available. We ordered: watermelon & feta salad with chicken, chicken tikka kebabs, garlic fried rice with chicken & Hakka noodles with chicken. The kebabs and salad were brought out first, and then the rice, and about five minutes later, the noodles. One of my dining pet peeves is when entrees are not brought out at the same time, so I noted it and moved on. Once we all had our food, we shared that it was fine. Some of the flavors were especially good. But the burnt garlic fried rice was not very garlicky and it was rather dry. The salad was missing its dressing & my noodles were fine, but nothing to write home about. Service was lackluster & not as attentive as it should have been, as we were one of only two parties in the whole place. We ran out of water a few times & had to ask for it. The waiter seemed more interested in chit chatting with the cook instead of monitoring the dining area which was left unattended for much of the time. Cali Social is still in the newer side and it's possible that they haven't hit their stride yet, but to stand out from similar restaurants, they are really going to need to step up their food & service game. It took a long time before all the paperwork was approved, but Cali Social Cafe finally opened earlier this month after taking over a PB suite that was the home of a curry restaurant for multiple decades. Instead of a yellow awning and darker tones inside, the whole place has been brightened up with white paint and turquoise blue tabletops. Although not evident by the business name, the cuisine style was a fusion of Asian Indian offerings. Two menu sheets hung in the foyer right as you entered. The categories were appetizers, soups, salads, rice bowls, and pasta plates on the left with croissant sandwiches/burgers, breads, kebabs, noodles & rice, and desserts on the right. A few of these stood out as unconventional because you won't see them at a prototypical Indian restaurant. In a sense, the menu held up the variety of cultures that was a staple of its predecessor as the tenant of this space. The curries were listed in the Rice Bowls section. My takeout order consisted of the Chef Special Saag. It was a creamy spinach and seasonal greens curry with mild spiciness and shrimp added for an extra four dollars. White basmati rice and a small side salad came with the bowl. Compared to saag that I have tried elsewhere, this version was watery and not as creamy. The serving size was also smaller for a similar price. I counted five pieces of shrimp in the mix. I will likely return with a friend to try some other choices as I want to give this new business another shot. Based on what I selected, my rating of Cali Social Cafe wasn't quite up to a four star level. read more

Amazing!! Food was incredible and service was top notch. We ordered the samosas, butter naan, and chicken coconut curry and everything was wonderful. The food was extra hot and fresh & the sauces were to die for. Our server Mohit was very friendly and attentive and everything came out at a perfect time. Parking was somewhat easy to find on the street (during a weekday) and the bathrooms were super clean. Ambiance was nice and calming. Prices were also so reasonable considering the large portion sizes. Personally for me, my entree is worth 2 meals. Will defintely be back to try more! read more

We were so delighted to find a new place in the old World Curry location. Cali Social has curry bowls too, but so much more. They have such a unique variety of Indian-fusion and international cuisine, including salads, pastas, sandwiches and kebab. They have plenty of vegetarian and halal options too, along with tasty mocktails. We love how they've transformed the space into something so bright and airy, opening up into Garnet to watch the world go by. They are all about creating a space for groups to gather and feel at home. We tried: Spicy Guava Margarita Mocktail Moscow Mule Mocktail Mango Lassi Chicken Tikka Burger Lamb Chops Keema Naan Creamy Tomato Soup Chicken Korma Curry Rice Bowl VIRAL Chilli Oil Onion Pasta Kush -Fu - Salad Churros with Chocolate Sauce Biting into the lamb chops only one word came to mind - succulent. SO juicy and tender, seasoned perfectly and not gamy at all. The chicken sandwich was on a nice soft bun with a nice crunchy pop of onions. The keema naan is stuffed with minced meat, and it was so nice to dip in both the soup and the curry. The salad was epic - it's loaded up with creamy avocado, protein-packed chickpeas, cucumbers, olives and more for a pleasant contrast in flavors and textures. My latest craving though is the chilli oil onion pasta. It comes meatless, but you can add chicken or shrimp for an extra fee. Honestly I loved it without meat, as the al-dente spaghetti held the spicy tomato & chili oil sauce with finely chopped onions perfectly for a burst of flavor in every single bite. The owner was there when we went, and she was so sweet and friendly. She explained all the dishes and made recommendations for us. You can really tell how passionate she is about creating a welcoming space with quality, healthy comfort food. We'll definitely go back to try more. read more

Lovely north Indian style food. 5 out of 5 to the pasta, which is the first time I've had this authentic, buttery pasta. Soup was an intriguing manchow soup, but with dumplings instead of the usual Manchurian balls. Chicken korma was nice as well. They don't charge extra for chicken if you order at the restaurant. We haven't been to the restaurant but have been getting it delivered. Coming from an indian background, we loved the flavors. We ended up ordering 4 times in the past 2 weeks. We liked the buttery pasta and Garlic rice. But the most amazing thing on the menu is the Indochinese Chow Mein and the veg Manchurian. The sweet n sour flavors reminded home. read more

Just visited this awesome new spot in Pacific Beach and had one of the best meals in a while! The watermelon salad was super refreshing -- sweet, crisp, and perfectly balanced with tangy dressing. Their sandwiches were next-level -- fresh ingredients, flavorful bread, and big enough to satisfy without feeling heavy. I also loved the naan and curry -- warm, comforting, and packed with rich spices that weren't too overpowering. It's clear the kitchen knows what they're doing. Drinks here are excellent too, especially if you're skipping alcohol -- creative non-alcoholic beverages that actually have personality and flavor (not just plain juices or sodas). While the appetizers like the samosas were great, our main curry dish lacked the deep, rich flavor profile we expected, and the service was a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn't completely packed.
