Super cool and historic spot. They still have drive-up service so you can order from your car and eat there or take it to go. We sat outside on the patio. Super clean spot and the Chili Dog and Fries I got were super good. Great Shakes too. Support small business! I had 2 polish dogs with onions, tomatoes and jalapeños and it was delicious! Service was great and I love the old time feeling. Returning back home I passed by this spot and haven't ate here in a long while. Here was my experience on a Thursday afternoon. AMBIANCE: Parking: There's parking for the spot, about 10 spots. Seating: Outside seating with about 6 spots for group seating. Feels: The surroundings are nothing fancy. Just your neighborhood hotdog spot. You're close by the rail and some other every day accessories stores and restaurants. For a local food adventure, this is your spot. FOOD: Chili Cheese Dog (Recommend) A standard plumped dog with some chili cheese and requested sauerkraut. For the most part, it's a regular ma and pa type of dog. Before gentrification and all the flashiness, this is your old school type of dog. Bread served as is, boiled dog with chili with a mild kick. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Swell. Requested for a dog and got it in a matter of minutes. TL; DR OVERALL: 3.5 Stars. A solid bite, price could be a ta bit much for me ($6) but still an experience to learn about the backyard of San Jose while supporting a small business. I can't believe I've never been here until recently! And they offer car hop service too. We came for lunch on a Saturday and promptly greeted by a man even though he was busy and seemed to be the only one working. He asked if it was our first time and explained the menu to us in detail. He highly recommended the chili cheese dogs, so we ordered two. Some reason I thought this was more of a fast food joint where you order at a window and pick it up yourselves. But not only did he take our order at a table, he made our food as well. I did not realize how much chili was going to be on those things! 5 hours later and I am still full from lunch. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite as we were in and out under 30 minutes. I wanted to leave a tip but there wasn't a way to include it on the receipt :(. I've lived in San Jose since 1973 and this is the first time I've ever been to this place. I'm very thankful this place has survived since 1936! I hate to lose history and it's so cool to see one of these orange huts still standing. My wife and I ordered 2 chili cheese dogs, a bag of fries, and 2 drinks for $30. Yea it seems pricy but consider this: the owner has to pay I'm sure sky high rent, rising food prices, employees, insurance, etc etc. The fact that somebody is willing to do this for a living and keep this piece of history alive is worth the price. The hot dogs were obviously high quality. They tasted great and snap when you bite into them. Another reviewer complained that they snap like a cucumber. I have to say, that's the first time I've ever seen a complaint about a hot dog that snapped. Puzzling. The chili and fries were good as well although I think the portion size of the fries could have been bigger. They even come out to your car to take your order. The waitress was friendly. I do wish they would update the credit card machine to allow you to add a tip. They have signs that say "tips appreciated" but that's hard to do if you have no cash and are using a credit card. Serving you since 1936? I call bluff. I've never noticed this joint when I used to search for chili dog restaurants. The fiance found this spot thanks to Google and we were on route. The orange Flintstones looking dome is not hard to spot once you're there. Parking seems like it could be tight if it were to get busy but we got lucky. Instead of going inside, there was someone outside taking orders. I ordered a chili cheese dog and chili cheese fries. I was not disappointed. The chili is on the bean-y side but I prefer it like that. The fries seemed small but I was able to share. All in all it was delicious. Typing this makes me crave another chili dog. read more

I'm rarely on this side of town but I was today and how excited was I to see that Marks is still here (I just absolutely love that this place has stood the test of time)! The menu is exactly the same as it was when I was a kid of course the prices are a little higher but with the rising cost of food, I totally get it. The hot dogs we ordered were great, they were a pretty generous size and the buns were just as soft as I remembered. They still have carhop service which just adds to the awesomely nostalgic experience. Our server Kelvin was super friendly and our order came out pretty quick. I typically don't rate very low on the Yelp platform, so it was a surprise for me when I found out my experience with Mark's Hot Dogs was a complete letdown. I paid about $5 for the sauerkraut hot dog, and it tasted rather plain and soggy. The quality of the ingredients felt underwhelming, and the portion size I got was smaller than I had predicted given the price. The chili cheese fries, which was also $5, was marginally better; however, I experienced the same issues with quality of ingredients and portion size. It's problematic when you sit down and eat your food, thinking about how there are much better hot dogs in the Bay Area that are more reasonably priced--at least that was the feeling I had as I was about to head out. The customer service wasn't the best either. I hope I don't sound over analytical when I say that the person who served my order looked like she didn't want to be there. She was on her phone, she handled the food without care, and she gave me and my friend attitude for asking for recommendations. Mark's Hot Dogs look like it would be a phenomenal place with its high reviews and nod to drive-in restaurants of the past. (It's been around since 1936, for crying out loud!) Honestly very boring. The only reason I have been here is because it's a San Jose Staple. East San Jose Staple. That orange building is iconic. A lot of history. Fun place. Every time i go down this road, I've always wondered about this place. I kept thinking that this place was closed since it looked so vintage and I barely see any cars. I only found this place due to Yelp and wanted to give it a try. I especially was interested in their nachos and jalapeños. Their menu is quite limited with the essentials but thats ok. The nachos gave me this sense of nostalgic feeling back to my childhood. I haven't found a place that gave me that same great taste and also bringing me back to that childhood memory. I have to say that this place did it! Not only that a plate of it was like $4.95. Its a perfect if you want to share it with someone or if you want you can eat it all on your own. Its pretty big in my opinion. Their chili cheese dog is good too and cost like $4.95 as well. My favorite hot dog place. This place comes from an era when architecture was part of the marketing of a restaurant. I love that it is shaped like an orange. I also love that it is a car hop and that they come out to your car to take your order and deliver your food. You can order at the tables, but why? It is an experience of history. First off, don't give this place a negative review just because you didn't do your research and expected those tripled cheesy truffle shaved loaded hotdogs. They're an old fashioned car hop hot dog place. Complaining about price? It's because they're not a street vendor with no employee. It's still very reasonably priced. Food is just classic. Old school hot dog, fries (which wasn't available here when I was a kid but glad it is now), shakes, sodas. Hot dog is quality ... I HATE when you bite into a dog and is just soft and mushy, this one has that "snap" of the casing. I think it's a super cute place to stop by on a casual date .. or if you're just craving a simple hot dog. This family owned business used to be located on Alum Rock Ave, I've been to the newer (in years) location on Capitol Ave a handful of times though I've lived in SC over 30 years now. I love the size of the hot dog & the particular bun they used & I've never found quality since like Mark's Some people thinks it's to expensive but it's not &!you get the quality u pay for. $7.10 is well worth the price of this amazing meal & I will be back! The hot dogs taste good, but the $7.35 per Hot Dog is a bit much. I have read the other reviews about cost, and the reasoning for the increase in cost. Gas prices have been this high in the past. The cost of food has gone up, but not to the degree of the increase in prices here. read more

This place has been a San Jose staple for over 80 years and although they don't have the largest or most elaborate menu around, they do an excellent job with the things that they offer. The food is reasonably priced, the atmosphere is nostalgic and the service is always fairly quick despite the fact they can get busy during peak hours. All of their food is good, but the chili dogs and chili cheese fries are always a favorite of mine and are one of the reasons that I always return for more. Traditional chili doesn't usually include beans but here they don't skimp and give you a little more bang for your buck. I'd suggest that everyone try this place at least once, just keep in mind that they aren't a late night spot to dine and do sometimes close early depending on the flow of business. read more

It tasted good but they forgot to put cheese even though I asked for it (whomp, whomp, whooomp). My S/O ordered the same along with a shake. He didn't like it although he did mention that it probably would have tasted better if we ate it right away. There were two ladies that helped us that night. It's not the same quality buns and the cheese is that pre-shredded junk that is covered in chemicals to stop it from clumping - the side effect is it doesn't melt.
