I was moving to a different unit within the same building, so just needed some "labor only" help and was recommended to Dolly. I used their online system, which I felt was convenient and straightforward, to book 2 helpers for 2 hours. I was immediately confirmed by Dolly but then also by the helpers assigned to me. They communicated to me primarily through text but on the day of the move they also called to let me know when exactly they'd arrive (which was ~30 mins later than the original scheduled time). As soon as they got to my apartment, they quickly and professionally got to work. I was helping alongside them so was able to observe how they handled my furniture and I felt it was generally with care (for example: they avoided banging into walls and doorframes). During freight elevator runs, we made polite small talk and they seemed like good guys. While it only took 1.5 hours and I booked for 2, I still paid the full $200 plus $20 each for tip. I hired Dolly for a simple sofa delivery. The movers were late, careless, and broke two window panes in my entryway, including a historic transom pane with hand-painted numbers. No apology. No ownership. They left without looking at me saying "call Dolly they'll handle it." I wish I could give this company zero stars! I have used Dolly over the past few years, so didn't think anything about reaching out to them to assist with a small move. Booked the move over a week in advance, spoke to the mover the day before the move and thought we were all set. Well, the snow storm happened and things went left. Four date/time changes later, Dolly still couldn't confirm movers for my move on late Sunday afternoon knowing the move should have happen on Saturday. The app is a joke because once the previous mover ghosted me, all communications between me and that mover disappeared! I guess this was so that I had no record of what was promised (the over 10 years of experience and that they had me covered foolishness he stated). The joke is on them because I captured pics of everything. After waiting and waiting, I looked for a number to speak with an actual person in customer service (after I was ghosted) and it took almost 10 minutes! to find the number on their website. I call and the person tells me "yes, your move at that time will not happen". I am like then what do we do since you didn't have the decency to contact me. He suggested another time of 5pm on a Sunday for the move! I took the time and called another moving company who readily scheduled and confirmed the move for Monday. Not only did they complete the move, they arrived 2 hours early!! As for Dolly, they are expensive for what they provide. I was able to use a different mover and pay almost the same price with padding and an actual truck opposed to the pick up truck I picked to keep cost down. These scammers had the gall to ask me to upgrade my move to a truck for an additional $200 - thus making my move of a small one bedroom apartment with minimal furniture over $700! This didn't include materials to wrap my furniture.. nothing! My only advice to those choosing to use Dolly, is enter at your own risk! Disappointing Experience I have been a Dolly customer for several years and have used the service multiple times. In the past, the helpers were friendly, professional, and the experience felt worth the cost. Unfortunately, my most recent booking was very disappointing. I was charged $170 for a job that lasted only 19 minutes at my house. The helpers arrived about 10 minutes before my scheduled window and worked from a strict 9-item limit. Two of those "items" were extremely lightweight wicker garden stools that weigh less than a pound each. I could easily have moved them myself and would have gladly done so if I had known they would count the same as actual furniture. When I asked the helpers to take a few additional pieces, I was told they could not because Dolly had only authorized them to move 9 items and they had another job to get to. As a result, I paid $170, had less than 20 minutes of work completed, and still had furniture left behind. The bigger issue is that this was not clear in the app when booking. I selected the largest item-count option available, expecting the type of service I had received in the past. If Dolly now treats the item count as a hard cap, customers need to be told that clearly before booking. The app should also allow customers to describe the actual items being moved, especially when small, lightweight items are being counted the same as large furniture. Booked them to move a king mattress and box spring down four flights take it a few miles and then carry it up two flights. Asked for a two-person crew and the appropriate size truck. If I could give zero stars, I would. I gave all the necessary information about moving this heavy dining table when I requested a quote. When the guys showed up, they had just a small set of wheels that wasn't going to support the marble slab, even though I'd told them ahead of time. After a few minutes on the phone with their "support number" I was told that the job was being cancelled and that I would be paying a "cancellation fee" that was equal to the entire cost of the job (180.00). I made it clear that I was not cancelling; they were unprepared to do the job that they were contracted to do. I was told to call customer support, which I did. It is an overseas call center. You can't actually converse with them. They just read from a script. So I'm supposed to hear something in 24-48 hours, but hopes are not high, based on my experience, so far. If a refund is not granted, I'll be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau as my next step. read more

The company is based in false/fraud information they feed to customers. When you book a "Dolly" you pay first and then receive a "Confirmation " email. (This is a prepay service) What they do NOT disclose is that they only employ Independent contractors. It is virtually impossible to speak to a live body ) Their repeated response was that the Dolly Helper must have had car trouble or were ill. Again 3days in a row this happened. When 2 of the 40ish yo helpers finally showed up one of them spent the entire time hounding my 17 yo niece for her telephone number unbeknownst to any of the 4 adults present.
