Definitely been 10 years since I had Jim n Nicks. And for good reason. I feel like the taste has changed. This one is in the Northlake mall plaza. It stands out so bad, you can't missed it. I'm so sad to see Macy's Northlake go the same way I felt when Macy's Candler went years ago. They don't even repurpose these spaces. Just a constant reminder. Took a detour home, saw a brand new Jim n Nicks in the Northlake parking lot, where the traveling fair would park. I didn't eat anything all day so I decided to see if it was still good. I should have gotten the pulled chicken. I got turkey, it tasted off. Another thing new, they have the employees outside like chic fil a and whataburger taking payments and walking out food. My son and husband brought me here for lunch. Staff is super friendly when I told them it was my first time. I got the recommended bbq pork plate with sides of collard greens and cole slaw. I really liked the mustard bbq sauce thsg came with it. Son asked for some vinegar bbq sauce which the staff brought to our table. When I asked if I bc could use the three cups for water, the friendly staff told us to get what we wanted, no charge. I have to say, I was tickled that in this day of inflation, not only did was the portion size large and tasty, service was friendly, and I felt extremely welcomed. I am not big R&B BBQ, but this was very good. I got the barbecue sauce removed and it kind of got it smoked and it was really good. I got the salad on the with the mac & cheese and the mac & cheese is typical restaurant mac & cheese. However, the muffins are so good. This is a relatively new location, so perhaps they will improve. However, the food was a huge let down! I got the pulled pork which looked like a boiled mess. The sides were ok and edible. My partner got the 1/4 chicken and thought it was ok. A staff member did eventually notice I hadn't touched my food and recommended swapping for slices of turkey. So this my first time visiting this location not the actual restaurant. This restaurant used to cater to my job like for 2-3 years consecutively years ago for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. I was first introduced to the restaurant via my job. They have delicious food and desserts at the time I ordered a pecan pie which is seasonal from the Conyers GA location I visited the next day and told me that my order was not placed so I had to go to the Snellville location because I would not return here. The Snellville location is great they took care of me and I got the pie. My brother visited here yesterday and he told me about it. I was in the area yesterday but I didn't come down this way to see the restaurant at all. Hospitality here is 1000 the whole staff is nice and friendly. Everyone is helpful from the cashiers offering you menus once you enter to the servers and everyone else involved. Customer service is above and beyond. I had the chicken and brisket and Mac and cheese from here before with the cheese bread which is delicious! So this visit I wanted to step out of the regular items that I might get so I got the original burger and a cup of brisket chilli delicious and they have a bottle of sauce on the table. So when my food came I opened the top bun of my burger and poured some of the brisket chilli on my burger and I added sauce what a fantastic combination of flavors going together delicious! I got the sweet tea and they have plenty of lemon slices available. I was speaking to a employee who was cleaning the tables and he offered to top off my drink for me which he did just being nice. I was given some of the bread before my meal arrived and when my meal arrived. I visited today on 2-18-2026 one of the best experiences I ever had in any restaurant. Not sure the reason for the delay, but there were certainly enough people inside to provide prompt service. I am 48 years old and I have just tasted the best sandwich that I've ever had. It is the Joe's original turkey sandwich and I added bacon to it. The bun was absolutely perfect and the smoked turkey was so wonderful! Now I want to talk about this bacon. I am from the south and I have lived in many places around this country, but their bacon is absolutely the best bacon that I've ever had in my entire life.The reason that this is my favorite sandwich ever is that everything is perfect. Sometimes I'll get a sandwich where everything in the middle is great but the bun is terrible or the Bunny is great and everything in the middle is either tough to chew or does not taste very good. Ok, I've been here about 6-7 times, usually great counter service. The person at the counter, didn't say hello, welcome, etc. After the transaction, no thank you...this is not McDonald's. Now, the person in the dining area was very nice. Normally, they send out complimentary cheddar muffins, not this time. Weird, got the chicken bbq sandwich with a side of bbq beans. Very good btw. Had to ask for extra napkins and a to go cup, no big deal. Manager took my tray and asked if I wanted a refill, great! Food: First BBQ place for me that doesn't have Brunswick stew. Instead they have Brisket Chili, nowhere near as good! Prices were high. Food was nothing special. Banana pudding had no flavor. Be aware it's not a "side dish" it came in a tiny sauce cup same size as our sauce on the side. When I inquired about the size they said it was to put on your sandwich. I'm sorry, but I have never put coleslaw on my BBQ sandwich! The company originated from Alabama and maybe that's how they do BBQ there. A BIG A+ on there cheese biscuits! Which are free with meal. Service: More like partial self serve. They give u a menu and tell you to sit where you want. When you decide what you want to eat go to cashiers and place your order then get a cup and your table number. On your way back to ur table get ur beverage and they will bring out the free biscuits (2 for each guest). Since my sister is on crutches (and we both complained of lack of handicap parking spaces (they only had 2. I will speak on that at the end) they came and asked what beverage we wanted. They forgot to give us our desserts. Oh I forgot to mention that when u pay for your food they want u to tip. I asked how do I decide how much to tip when I have not even tasted the food and just walked in the door good. The cashier just shrugged his shoulders. The lowest amount tip to choose from was 20%! I'm sorry the only time I tip more than 20% was during covid and on holidays as a thank you for being open and missing out on some of their holiday OR if the service , food and ambiance is extraordinary. So I chose to customize our tip. Ambiance: Because we were very friendly in our complaint on only having 2 handicap parking spaces the hostess was very friendly with us and we joke around while my sister was in the restroom. When I went back to the hostess to ask about where is the Brunswick stew. Two other employees were hanging out with her. She told me that they had brisket chili instead. I jokingly said I have never heard of that or a BBQ place not having Brunswick stew. She and the other two staff members chuckled and she said try it you will like it. I told her I plan on trying it but this lets me know I won't be coming back as often as I had planned. (I mean really every other BBQ place I have been to throughout the south has Brunswick stew). That is the main way I judge how good the meats will be and if or how often I will go to the establishment). The restaurant was clean. My sister did not complain about the restroom so I take that to say it was up to par. All the staff seemed happy and upbeat except the cashier he seemed like being there was a burden. We came in with a happy mood and we left with a full belly laughing about how different this place was. We were counting the list of things that were not to our liking when compared to other places. I think it was 8 not goods to 2 goods. The goods were the cheese biscuits and how easy going and jovial the staff was. Parking: there was 1 wheelchair accessible and 1 regular handicaps space on first row to the right of the door when facing the restaurant. Then remaining spaces directly in front of the door were for take out orders. We suggested making all of those handicap spaces with more wheelchair accessible spaces too and have the take out orders space on the other side facing the handicap spaces. It's not like they don't have plenty of parking it's in the parking lot of Northlake Mall. Plus I don't think a handicap person would order take out when they have drive through. Side note: I worked at Shepard spinal center long ago and part of their orientation is spending a day in a wheelchair so we would understand better what the patients experience. My sister had polo when she was 2 back during the epidemic. She now has late effects or post polo syndrome. She walks short distance with crutches and longer distances with her electric scooter. We both constantly say until you experience a day in a handicap person's shoes you just don't understand how ramps, doors and restrooms need to be designed to accommodate a wheelchair and any equipment they may have. Over all: We had fun and enjoyed the staff. The meats were plentiful but just ok, not as tasty as some places we frequent. The biscuits were really good (I'd go back to get those) I felt like the prices and the fact that we had to do 1/2 the wait staff's job did affect the pre service tip. I know everything cost more these days but I don't think the quality was equal to the prices. And the brisket chili is NOT good enough to be a substitute for Brunswick stew. (I hear ya " when is she going to get off bashing the lack of Brunswick stew" lol). First time visiting this chain after they opened the new location in Tucker. The staff was super attentive and very nice. The food was was very good, I had the 3 meat combo plate of jalepeno cheddar sausage, pulled pork, and fried catfish with sides of Mac n Cheese and baked beans. Food was delivered quickly and upon receiving it, I noticed I received ribs instead of the catfish. I mentioned it to the server, but told him I was ok with accepting the ribs. I have been eating Jim-N-Nicks since we lived in Birmingham many years ago. This is a new location, great service, however, they frequently run out of ribs. Tonight we came back and they were out or Spare AND Baby Back Ribs! It would t be an issue except, this is not the first time and not the only location that this has happened as well.
