I am digging this new addition to Jacksonville. The food is great, the staff is great, and the interior is great. I've had the Shwarma, rice, fatoosh salad, a desert that I can't remember the name of, chicken kabobs, tabaloeh (spelling?), and stuffed grape leaves. I can say that all of these items are excellent and I'm sure the rest of the menu is as well. The only real CON: it is too small. It has been open a month now and it's always packed. The first time we went to Marrakesh, the food was great but there were issues with slow service since the restaurant was new. We went back last recently with a group of friends and the food was still great, but the service and decor were now up to par. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, and went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. I had the kefta kababs and the meal was delicious. Saw all the good reviews here on yelp and knew this place was a must-try! We were not disappointed! Ordered the kibbah appetizer, which is basically a deep fried hush puppy filled with ground beef. On its own it was a little dry and lacking flavor, however it was served on a bed of their tabbouleh salad, which is cracked wheat (looks like garlic) and parsley with green onions and tomatoes, and with a little lemon and some of the tabbouleh salad the kibbah was actually pretty delicious. For our meals, my husband ordered the shawarma and I ordered the chicken tawook. The chicken was excellent, it had a spicy almost barbeque flavor to it and it was perfectly cooked. The shawarma was only alright, it was little slices of beef and lamb and a lot of fat mixed in with it. It had a nice subtle flavor, slightly vinegarry with lots of herbs. Both were served with rice and our choice of salad, I chose the cucumber salad and my husband chose the tabbouleh salad before he really knew what it was. The cucumber salad was very very good, it is very simple, just cucumber in a plain yogurt sauce with a little olive oil and parsley on top. It was so good that I ended up eating the chicken with the cucumber salad inside the delicious pita bread that was served with our meal, because the rice left something to be desired. The rice was very plain, and even though it had a beautiful yellow color, it tasted like water. Overall, I am quite positive about this restuarant and I definitely want to go back and try the couscous with chicken and I know my husband wants his own serving of cucumber salad, since he only got what I let him eat of mine. Oh and also, Loved the sweet tea! I think we both drank at least three glasses full each. read more

I've had a couple of their desserts, with the Kulag being my favorite. It's a little on the sweet side, but still good. Finally there's an ethnic place in J-Ville that is good and good for you. After living in DC, my husband & I were worried we might not find any authentic cuisine around us but we were pleasantly surprised here. They had lunch specials and we both tried different things. Music was just a little odd, some mix of middle eastern and trance which would probably work if you were on acid. OMG, this place is the best place to eat in Jacksonville!! I love middle-eastern food and I like to think I am a good critic as I am middle-eastern myself. We ordered the lamb kobob with Tabouleh salad, the meat was very fresh, tender and just delicious. We also ordered the chicken kebab, cooked to perfection. For appetizers, we ordered the feta cheese which came with naan bread and was amazing. Our waiter was very polite and attentive, checking in making sure we had everything we needed. My wife and I are from Massachusetts and were visiting our son, Mike, who is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. He took us out to eat at Marakesh, which is his absolute favorite restaurant in Jacksonville. I never set my expectations too high but soon realized that he hadn't been exaggerating. Starting with the humus, bread and warm stuffed grape leaves appetizer and right on through the main course the taste, quality and attention to detail shined was obvious through every bite. For main course, we had the family platter of lamb, steak and chicken on a rice and when we were done there wasn't a morsel left. We finished with a desert of Baklava and Turkish coffee and both were outstanding. My only complaint was that we'd have to wait until our next visit to eat there again. On the way out, we met Sammy, who is one of the owners and lead chef, and asked him to take the attached selfie with us. We definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the Jacksonville area - you can't go wrong. read more

The staff are so friendly and will help you make a selection if you've never had Mediterranean food before. The food itself is so flavorful and good! I had a drink here for the first time last night and it was also on point. I normally get the tea which is also good. Prices are definitely reasonable and the Kalaya is my favorite dish. It's hard to overstate the quality and the value of Marrakesh. I found it on Yelp when I was visiting my brother before his deployment and, frankly, I think the reviewers understated how good it was. First and foremost, the FOOD is outstanding. I had the shish kebab and I was expecting some tough and stringy beef with (maybe) some decent spices, BUT what I got instead was perfectly cooked to my medium-specification filet mignon. The salad I ordered with it was a perfect compliment, they served it with some great pita bread, and then the sommelier suggested THE-MOST-AMAZING cabernet sauvignon (Louis Martini, Sonoma, 2008), which took the already outstanding meal and pushed it way over the top. He gave me a few tastes of various reds before finishing me off with a great, dry white in a chilled glass with diced strawberries, at which point I effectively wanted to DIE, knowing that, basically, pretty much, and with various other qualifications, the food part of my life wasn't going to get any better than this (and if it ever does, well, then, please kill me then). read more

My husband and I love Mediterranean food and being from New York I've had quiet a few good dishes back home. Marrakesh has a few good dishes that are comparable, including their babah ghanoush (sp?). Staff was great and only came when called upon. The atmosphere is nice but I came for the food. The meal was large and filling. However, it was very bland and not what I expected. Very disappointing food. Having eaten a lot of really good Greek and Lebanese food in a lot of different places so I was hoping for something pretty decent. Not so much. The hummus was fair. The combo plate w/ chicken (regular and supposedly spicey) and lamb kabobs was flat flavor-wise and the lamb fatty. (My wife's a vegetarian and was much more disappointed in her food than me.) The Turkish coffee at the end of the meal was watery. I'm used to a small cup of thick flavorful coffee with grounds at the bottom. Oh well. Don't think we'll be back. read more

Did a ride along with my hubby to Jacksonville for his job and he asked me where we should eat. After checking out Yelp and trip advisor this was the most recommended and highest reviewed so we checked it out. I got the veggie platter with feta, goat cheese, taboulli , and what should have been hummus but was brought out as baba ghanouj (which I normally wouldn't have ordered but didn't mind since it was so yummy). It of course had fresh pita and they give you plenty of it unlike other places that only give you a few "triangles" of it. My hubby got the beef shish Kabob per the waitresses recommendation, which came with rice and a Greek salad. He's more picky than me when it comes to food and it got his vote. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The meat was cooked to perfection. After we paid our check I forgot to ask for the "Yelp review famous" minty sweet tea so I asked for some to go and told her I'd pay cash but since my hubby had a soda she just subbed out his refill, so sweet of her especially because it was ahhhhhmazingly refreshing.
