I have never left a Marshall's crying, especially not on my literal 30th birthday. I took the day off of work today for my birthday, and decided to spend the day at Marshall's. I spent three hours meticulously looking for all of the 50% off holiday items. At one point a staff brought a huge cart of holiday candles to restock the Christmas section so I directly took from her cart. At checkout I was told 2/3 of my items were NOT part of the holiday section. I pleaded that there are snowflakes on the lip balm, the palmers lotion said HOLIDAY GIFT SET, and the names of the scents of the candles to which I was told no. A manager and another staff came over to say ok to the lip balm once she saw the snowflake. Then validated her and said she's right these are just red candles it's a no. I one by one picked them up and pleaded "mistletoe noir isn't holiday?" She said ok fine you can have that one. I literally said wow I didn't realize I needed to negotiate and try to convince you for each of these?! As I went and read the names of these candles. She said you don't need to convince me I just didn't read the bottom were really busy. I said then why are saying no before looking?! (Mind you I come here often, there was no one in line, normally line is around the isle and I wait 20min) she stormed away. The way she talked to me was so beyond unacceptable and mean. NO apology for telling me no when not checking. I told the cashier I'm so beyond upset right now this is not how I wanted to feel on my birthday. Moral of the story Barbara didn't let me take many of the candles I am certain were holiday, ultimately I literally got on my car and started sobbing. What a crazy way to spend my day off, and my birthday. Ultimately while Barbara was extremely rude, the ultimate problem is that the items should be in the system as holiday or not instead of letting staff debate with customers. The Baseline: For a department store the selection of goods must be good, have quality on the level equal to the type of establishment, good internal circulation, and a good check out payment procedure. Service: All of the Marshal's staff I have ever interacted with in my 8 years of frequenting this Marshals location have been polite and helpful with all reasonable requests for assistance. I never have made an unreasonable request so I really can't compare against that. Selection: Marshals has a great number of standard types of items readily available but it is not a consistent in specific products. AKA if you don't get it now it probably won't be there next time you come. That does make for a fun shopping experience to find new things. Value: Some things have great reduced price value. Example: I bought Bones Coffee that retails at $19.99 at World Market that I bought for $8.99 at Marshals. You have to always look for the deals. read more

Marshall's (and Home Goods) are now my first stop for greeting cards. CVS and Target may have bargain ones but for about $3, they are much nicer at these discount stores. They don't carry age-specific cards but I saw a Mother's Day and bridal shower card. Long lines still move quickly, and employees are nice. And holiday decorators keep our economy healthy shopping Halloween products in August! read more

I don't normally leave negative reviews, but this location genuinely needs attention from management. During my most recent visit, I went in to return one item and apply that return toward other items I was purchasing. I clearly separated the return (one shirt with the receipt on top) from the items I was buying and explained this to the cashier, Karen, to make the process simple. From the beginning, Karen was rude and seemed extremely inconvenienced by me. She rolled her eyes and asked what I was returning, even though it was clearly separated and already explained. I calmly clarified. Trying to keep things pleasant, thinking maybe she was having a bad day or something along those lines, I made light small talk about the store renovations and casually asked if there had been a leak. She responded abruptly. I even had to say, "I'm just asking a question." The interaction only softened slightly after my tone shifted. At the end of the transaction, she left my items sitting on the counter. When she asked if I needed a bag, I said yes. Despite that, she left everything there and then, as I was standing there waiting, asked again, "Do you need a bag or something?" The entire experience felt tense and unnecessarily uncomfortable. This is not the first concerning interaction at this store. On a previous visit, I witnessed an elderly veteran who appeared confused being signed up for a store credit card. The application was framed more like a rewards or points system, and it did not appear to be clearly communicated that it was a credit card requiring a Social Security number. I approached the man myself to let him know he was applying for a credit card, and he seemed confused and unaware of what he had agreed to. By that point, he had already entered his Social Security number and was declined. Several customers, including myself, raised concerns with the manager on duty, but the response felt defensive rather than thoughtful. I understand employees are expected to promote credit cards. However, there should be clear communication and good judgment, especially when someone may not fully understand what they are signing up for. Kindness truly matters. Maybe Karen was going through something. But you never know what customers are going through either. For some people, it may take everything in them just to get out of the house and complete one small task that day. No one deserves to be treated with irritation or hostility over a simple return or question. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works toward creating a more respectful and welcoming environment for customers at this location. read more

I traveled so out of my way to this Marshall's because I've previously been able to find good things. I didn't realize that walking in 7 months pregnant I would be leaving crying because of how terrible an experience I would have. I went in looking for a dress for my babyshower and while I found some options, I was immediately thrown off by the not only the customers but the employees. While rummaging through the dress section, several older ladies were pushing and neglecting my presence meanwhile I'm 7 months pregnant trying to push myself into a clothing rack because they can't be bothered to say excuse me or wait for me to finish the line. Another lady was acting like I wasn't on the same section of clothing and was pushing items towards me while I was trying to pull dresses out. No eye contact. No acknowledging my presence. Then I went into the fitting room area and as I arrived the employee just looked past me and didn't say a word. I stood there waiting to see what I had to do to get in and nothing. Another employee which seemed like a manager came by and I turned to her and asked "can I go in?" And she told me that I had to set items on the rack to be counted first. So I quickly told her "oh okay well she didn't say anything to me" that's when the first lady decides to NOW speak to me and say she had been waiting for me to organize the items. Which is crazy because to not even greet me or look at me, how would I have known? Even then she was still looking past me while speaking with me. I'm not sure if this was some racial profiling inclined situation or if I just didn't fit her typical rich looking customer persona and she felt to not provide me good service. Either way, I was never raised to treat anyone better than the other because of any sort of "look." I left that store crying, no dress in hand and feeling like an invisible outsider. This Marshall's continue to be a neighborhood favorite discount store! You can tell by how popular it always is! But pros and cons - it's a great place to get almost anything at a discounted price, but you always have to deal with crowds and parking can be frustrating these days now that there are more major stores in the building. I used to come here just to buy clothes, but in recent years, I've discovered them to be a great place for a kitchen ware/ household items, linens and things, and even stationery. *** Tip for parking: the parking structure has two entrances, it's much easier if you come in from the Olympic Boulevard entrance. The Sawtelle Boulevard entrance is the one that most people use and you could be waiting in line for quite a while. read more

Personally, I feel like this Marshall's is underrated for what it has to offer. I like how it has its own parking structure that is pretty driver-friendly and easy for people to park, and get in and out of, especially since this can be such a rarity in West Los Angeles. I can always find something I need, like a pack of Burt's Bee's lip balm, lotion, or skin care products. Today, my friend inspired me and another friend to buy Dashing Diva nail presses, which would certainly cost almost twice more if you were to buy these from the Dashing Diva company website. So we were stoked and had so much fun choosing Dashing Diva nail press packs to buy :D ! Not only will these make our nails look nice, but they will certainly save us a LOT of money that manicures and pedicures would cost. LOL :D ! This Marshall's is conveniently located in the same shopping center as a Home Goods and Matcha Village :) ! So if you would like to get a bite to eat or a drink either before or after shopping, you certainly have those options right there :D ! This particular Marshalls is convenient for me since I live only a few blocks away, but it's fantastic that they have 4 levels of FREE parking in the attached garage (also parking for the food businesses, Home Goods, and Michael's). There's never been a time that I couldn't find parking here. This location has a great mix of clothing (men, women, and children), shoes, pet care/supplies, kitchen & home products, and a ton of amazing candles that are well priced! I personally prefer everything they have to offer aside from their clothing, because it's usually pretty messy; sizes are mixed up, not enough selection, and plenty of items that are dirty or damaged. That being an issue and the fact that their checkout lines are pretty much always horrendous are what dropped my star rating. Overall, it's a decent store to pickup random home needs, gifts for people (or yourself), and dog supplies for cheap! read more

Extremely chaotic. Very messy. Doesn't look like they clean any floors or counters. As you walk through the store it smells like urine. Lots of product is open or damaged. Completely unorganized. I found this Marshall's location to be well organized with a nice selection of items. I love shopping for my grandson at this location because they have nice name brand outfits at a reasonable price. Unlike other stores I don't have to spend a lot of time piecing things together because many of their children's clothing come as a pair. It's also a great place to purchase toys, shoes, pet supplies and home goods. I really enjoy being able to shop for a selection of different items in one store. This is the cleanest Marshal's I have ever seen. Not only clean, all the shelves are neatly arranged and no empty spot unlike other branches. There are many people at Friday night and they have people mopping the floor, watching the door while maintaining the shelves in order. That is really impressive. The manager should be promoted at once. It is right at the corner of 2 main streets and off the highway. Outside also has so many different restaurants to choose from. Not far away, there is a BestBuy. This place is nice. I have never seen a Marshall's like this one. Every piece of clothes is nice hung and all the racks are full. Not only the manager is awesome, but also the civilization standard of the shoppers here. In LA, this is amazing thing. Kitchen area has more options than other branches. Everything is nicely displayed and no out of stock items. I cannot take too many photos here so I don't look suspicious. I like this one and definitely will come back again. read more

Fairly well-organised, bright clean store with all the usual house-hold and wardrobe goods. Nice option for random holiday shopping or just general browsing year-round. For this type of retailer, I have more success finding stuff at Marshalls or TJ Maxx, instead of at Ross. Clothing is usually past or off-season; there's a changing room for those who like to try before buying. Home, furniture and domestic sections are slightly bunched up and don't get as much aisle space as shoes appear to. Still, there's an impressive little kitchen-wares area. You'll see various gadgets and stuff endorsed or possibly designed by celebrity chefs. There was even a shiny substantial pot & pan set with Palm Restaurant's logo-- definitely made for heavy-duty cooking. Foot-wear section was fairly large and near the entrance, but I rarely find anything great in my size at these sort of stores, so on-line and brick-and-mortar shoe sellers still get my business. Marshall's does have an excellent location for anyone who loves Sawtelle (i.e. moi). I can easily make a day of it, just shopping and dining up and down along the streets of little Osaka. read more

POSITIVES: Convenient, (relatively) safe location. At a major intersection in West L.A. Plenty of selections of merchandise. Cashiers work hard, and are friendly. NEGATIVES: Checkout registers constantly understaffed. Out of 11 (total) registers -- only 4 - 5 are usually open, sometimes 6. But many checkout stands remain closed. Which causes veeeeeeeeeery long lines. In fact, this particular store appears to have THE longest checkout line. A major waste of time. It is yet to see the store show some concern and care -- and have more checkout registers open. read more

BOOTS It has convenient parking next door in the 2 story parking garage, and also lots of meters on the street (come early to get the meters). BOOTS They have a large selection of everything. BOOTS I especially liked the selection of cute little cosmetic purses/wallets. And they have furniture for goodness sakes! And all kinds of odds and ends, things I haven't seen in other Marshall. The super friendly, professional cashiers at this store alone make it a must-go. It is also in the same complex as Michael's and HOMEGOODS, also SO friendly and well-stocked. I can see why this place has such bad ratings. Our cashier was very nice and the other employees as well. However there was one person who was just unnecessarily rude. A tall orange haired girl with bangs. I overheard her being so rude to a poor girl who was asking a simple question. All she asked was "what line do I have to get in if I have a return?" A simple understandable question as some places have separate lines. And this rude person responded with "the only line there is" with the most condescending voice. She seemed like a manager too. Managers are supposed to treat customers with respect as they're higher up. This person should not be employed if that's how she's going to treat customers. Unacceptable! read more

I've gone to this store for many years on and off. It's the kind of place you need time and patience for. There's very little personnel on the floor; instead you have to kind of "dig" through their inventory. I've found some amazing deals in skin care, beauty products (look at the expiration date though - sometimes their products are close to the expiration date), nice shoes and cool clothing at vastly reduced prices. They do have some (usually past season) designer clothes, and some decent quality items, but again, watch out for little defaults. I believe they buy the overstock or slightly less than A quality. There's a nice choice of kitchenware, bathroom accessories, etc, although "Home Goods" has a much bigger inventory for those items. Omg, great selection on most things clothing and house wares. I found a number of cute dresses and tops at a great price! The crowd of shoppers is a bit crazy, a little too much. The racks are crammed and it's hard to walk the aisle of clothes without getting snagged. Be careful or you'll try to buy EVERYTHING because the prices are so low. read more

I love Marshalls. You never know what you're going to find here but this one always has great stuff. They have clothes, shoes, skincare/makeup, household items, kids stuff, workout stuff, electronics, luggage, and stuff for your pets. I've found tons of things here for good prices, and rarely walk out without buying anything. This Marshalls in particular gets a lot of high end designer products. It also has an awesome skincare section so you can find pretty much anything you're looking for. I buy a lot of things here for my dog because the prices are better than the Petsmart upstairs. This shopping center has a large 4 story parking lot, so it's never too hard to find a spot here. Having free parking in this area is also a huge plus. read more

While I usually enjoy my shopping experience at this Marshall's (usually better items than the one closer to me) this was the exception to the rule. Being followed by a security officer because I'm looking in my bag for my phone. Really! Certainly one can assume the worst, but to follow to the point of being inches from them, is a bit over the top. Taking the job way too seriously there and making regular patrons uncomfortable has created a feeling of uncomfortableness for me. Will not shop here again! Probably chasing others away too. Really like this location. It seems more organized than most bargain stores but you do sometimes still have to hunt for that one special piece. They carry a lot of name brands too. Oh! And I appreciate the customer service. I had some dresses that I bought and didn't quite fit right (always thought if I could just lose 10 pounds...). Anyway, finally gave into reality but too late to get a refund, they still gave me a store merchandise credit so that was nice. They have great home accessories as well.
