Me and my wife are frequent shoppers at this store. We almost never return items ( remember only 1 time for the past 1,5 years). We bought a face cream as present to my mom and before shipping it we tried to see what is inside. To do that the tag needed to be removed since it was placed in such a way so you cannot open it without removal. Having that said, tag was removed and we realized that it is used one ( contains fingerprints and brown additions). We wanted to exchange or refund it( 3 weeks from the purchase date). The policy above the cashier desk says you can return within 30 days and if you have a receipt. We met all conditions. At the store, cashier told us he cannot exchange or refund since there is no tag on it and it is their policy to have tags and pointed me out to Return Policy above the cashier desk. We asked a manager. It took about 10 minutes before he came. We explained everything from scratch ( of course we need to do so) and manager agreed to refund. Note, while waiting I red the Return Policy and haven't found anything about tags!!!!!! I immediately asked for explanation to understand this discrepancy. Manager just agreed it is not in here BUT it is their policy. Then I asked why do they confuse customers by placing wrong policy and do not notify us at the moment of the purchase and the answer was - "it is law of California ". Of cause it is, right, I cannot verify it at the store!!! And there were not a single Sorry from them!!! Really disappointed by the service. Waiting for the explanation from them. read more

I love bargain shopping! This location is really big and has a lot of stuff to look at. Their shoe department is about 33% of the whole store. I like Marshalls because they carry a lot of designer brands... a lot more than TJ Maxx and Ross. Their home section is always good to peruse and find great bargains on kitchen and bakeware. read more

Bought really cute nine West shoes yesterday and they fell apart today (posted the pictures up). I figured Marshals would have a decent customer service especially when it comes to their products being defective. Went there today and the manager, Anzhela, gave me a look -like I was lying to her about buying them yesterday- when I showed her the receipt and the shoes. I understand that there are policies and it's not her fault, but the moment she gave me that look, I had NO sympathy for her having to deal with my wrath. She told me that they don't take 'worn' returns... excuse me, your product shouldn't fall apart in ONE day!!! Never going back. Ever. read more

Just moved to the area and was glad to find a Marshalls nearby. I went there this afternoon in planning on purchasing a few items. Just right before the cashier was about to ring me up, she removed the sticker marked $9.99 and rung me up at $19.99. I forbid to shop at a store that advertises a product that is marked a specific price on the floor then having to be charged a higher price at the cash register. After addressing this issue with Irene the Manager on Duty, she failed to give me the price that was previously advertised. Until i get a return call from Gary the General Manager about resolving this 'false advertisement' issue, i will refrain from shopping at any Marshalls or TJ Max. read more

Horrible experience. I went into Marshalls to make a return with no receipt. I was looking for a store credit for approximately $35 worth of hair care product that I had over purchased. When I went to the cashier I felt as if she thought I was trying to defraud the store. She opened every container, looked inside, held it as if she were weighing it and then called the Store Coordinator Ellana. Ellana then proceeds to look into every container again, weigh it with her hand. I say this is ridiculous, I shop here all the time. I have seen Ellana may times and the time I have a return for $35 this is how I am treated. I actually did have a receipt for one item. I told them just to return everything as a return with NO receipt Ellana said if you don't give me the receipt I will not process the return for anything. I said are you serious she said "YES". I said your acting as if you are doing me a favor she said "I AM". I gave her the receipt she processed one item with it the rest with no receipt and one item she said was used. I said I had not used it. She did not believe me and I left it at the store with no refund for that item. This is a disgrace. In the Beauty Area a sign needs to be placed indicating the return policy of these items. That the store may accept return at its discretion. read more

Love this store! It's harder to leave than Target! I can never leave here empty-handed. There was a time I had over 30 candles in my apt because of this place...the selection and prices are too good! Clothing options are great. I've gotten some awesome home goods like pillows and plates for a bargain. They are pretty organized for a big store with lots of departments. I can go here just for fun, that's how great it is! read more

This store does have some nice bargains, clothes, jeans and tops.. kitchen and towels and linens great but there is attitude from the Manager of this store.. she's into her ego and that she has the final say! I have travelled intensively and I always frequent a Marshalls or TJ Maxx store for the last 20 years.. Most staff at all locations are helpful, cheerful and kind.. this manager is none of he above.. As a matter of fact other Marshalls store managers I have gotten to know are very nice and they solve any issues to make he customer happy and this results in more business.. The manager of this store is not accommodating and old school never bend for the customer.. I wonder why they hired her as she is stoic to customers concerns as all other managers I have met are very nice this one is the only store manager that is less than desirable.. Very much love love love this store. As with any discount merchant, it is hit or miss. Some days you have to pick between 20 shirts that all look and fit amazing, then the one day you just want a new purse there's nothing you like. More often than not I find SOMETHING in this store. The thing I like most about it is that it's bright and clean. Let's face it, some of us are just picky shoppers so what may be a bad day of shopping for me may be a treasure trove for you. But if everything is in its place, clean and organized it makes it easier for everyone. They often have killer pumps in name brands that I scour outlet stores for to save a few bucks, but this saves me a long drive. I do wish they had a larger housewares section, namely furniture. They have tons of pillows, sheets, kitchen stuff...but when it comes to lamps or chairs, real items you decorate your house with, they seem to lack a bit. Prices are always good though. One word of caution, don't buy something just because it's cheap. As with anything you buy, check it out for stains, rips, general construction because there might just be a manufacturer's defect as to why it's at Marshall's to begin with. read more

I used to love this place...going straight to the point, their managers are complete ASSHOLES!! I arrived to Marshall's to do returns. I wanted to return a conditioner I purchased and I explained how the consistency of the hair product is off to the sales associate. She understood why I wanted to return it and mentioned how the product could be expired and how this has happened before. A manager approval was needed and she came by and didn't even let me or the sales lady explain the situation and simply said no and walked away. I've never felt so disrespected and that's a manager!?!? Working in the sales industry means you have to listen and both of the managers avoided me like little children. Idk how this type of leadership can be followed. Even the sales lady mentioned how they are mean to everyone. How in the world does Marshall's expect loyal customers with these two ladies treating people just plain rude. read more

Let me start by saying, I was really excited when I heard they were building a new Marshall's. I was doubly excited when I heard they were building a new Marshall's in the SAME SHOPPING CENTER WHERE I WORK. This seemed like a match made in heaven. Now, I could leave my house early, shop, and go to work! Alas, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You see, somehow, when they moved Marshall's from the location next to Target over to the new location, somewhere along the move, they lost all the cute clothes. I don't know where they went! So, even though this Marshall's is bigger, brighter and MUCH nicer, I have not once found something cute. And yet I keep trying! read more

I enjoy checking out their latest on Designer clothing at least every few weeks. They have the BEST shoe selection ever! The only down side is that I've experienced a man "acting" like he's shopping, but seems to be in just about every isle next to me. Creepy feeling - so I leave. This has happened twice! Let me start by saying I love(d) the store, I'm there a minimum of four times a week...I fell in love with some of the staff (especially Gerry), however, I always feel uncomfortable like I'm being watched (which has been witnessed on more than one occasion by my co-workers) but today takes the cake..after making my selections I proceeded to the back counter, stood in line maybe two minutes or so and here comes a guy who I've seen before and believe to be plain clothes loss prevention running out of the back door, looking left and then right as if he was looking for someone...having not found them he returns to the store locks eye with me and immediately his face displays a sense of relief......as if I was the one he was looking for. I was/am hurt and embarrassed, needless to say I will never spend a dime of my hard earned money let alone step foot in the store again. read more

This particular Marshals Has a great selection of shoes, Especially coach. And i also found a super cute Juicy Couture beach bag once. Love this store. It can be a bit Messy at times but overall it's usually organized and clean. read more

Ok, I really hope this new store maintains it's neat and organized manner. For once, I wasn't tripping over toys and random stuff like in most discount stores. I found some great gifts and even a great jewelry tree for $16.99. I have seen similar items at boutiques for over $50.00 and could not justify the cost, I'd rather spend it on more jewelry. This is a great place for some retail therapy without breaking the bank. Love it. read more

I can corroborate what others have said here. They must have a lot of shoplifting because employees do pop up and circle you "fixing" merchandise around you when you are looking. That never particularly bothered me because I was not shoplifting and in fact always feel a little guilty I am buying so much. They have good merchandise and I have found some things I haven"t in other Marshall's & TJ Maxx. The men's apparel is nice and cookware is excellent. Women's clothing is okay, but I have found some gems when they mark down seasonally. I completely understand when other reviewers have mentioned the feeling of surveillance. I shop online a lot, and I see that Marshall's has developed it"s shopping portal. Maybe if the managers in this store can't manage it properly, it will be taken over by online shopping. Walnut Creek has been experiencing a lot of retail theft - people from other places think that because it's Walnut Creek, a certain etiquette prevails. However, theft hurts everyone - the employees, the customers. I don't blame them from trying to prevent crime, but they should workwith other retailers in this mall for better and higher security profile. No gain in making the majority of honest shoppers feel like criminals. read more

I came to this store because of the reviewers who gave it a 5 They stated PH had a large inventory. They do have a large inventory, but not as much clothing as some of the other Marshalls. What I missed at this store compared to the San Leandro store, all PH clothing was mainly mixed together by sizes. In San Leandro they sort a lot of the clothing by designers. It makes it easy for me to shop and I buy more because I can find what interst me. When I go to racks of clothing that are sorted by sizes, 99% of the time they have too many clothes on the racks and I cannot view the clothing because it is crammed in too tight, so I walk away. I don't have that type of patience, even if it is at a great price. I do like Marshalls. read more

I like this department store. It's large has a lot of things to choose from. I loved the shoe department. I found some very nice shoes there, this can grow on me. The guy there was extremely helpful, I got some quality shoes and wasn't aware of the savings. You can get good quality, service at a savings. read more

I found a couple of items but it was slim pickings. The bathroom was absolutely digusting. When I checked out the woman at the counter threw my items into a bag in a crumpled ball and wrinkled everything up. One of them had a sleeve tucked in and she didn't even look--just threw everything in the bag into a big mess. Now I have to try to iron things that were not wrinkled before and that are not easy to iron. Gross. read more

I tried to return some items and the lady at the front counter needed help, everyone kept ignoring her and totally pushing her off to the side, which was an absolute disrespect to myself and my fiancé. I really respect anyone who works retail. I have done it and it is hard work. HOWEVER, I will not tolerate racial profiling. On Friday, I was literally tailed around the store by an aggressive woman who was straigtening clothes. I ignored her and did not give her the pleasure of insulting me. I was seriously offended. I saw two dogs in the store on April 27, 2014. Neither appeared to be service dogs. Pretty disgusting considering that the place sells bed & bath items, underwear, and gourmet foods. I'm sorry, but I'm allergic to dogs and seeing them roaming around in Marshalls is just gross. Management said they were allowed, so I'll be shopping elsewhere. read more

Love the discount prices on purses, shoes & beauty items. I'm a regular shopper here & have RARELY had an employee who wasn't friendly. Smile at them & they will smile back. I have done LOTS of returns without the slightest problem. The tags are still on & I have my receipt. If you remove the tags or don't have a receipt, obviously you will have an issue. We have all misplaced our receipts at times, suck it up cause its our responsibility not the stores. Being followed by loss prevention/security/employees isn't rude, insulting or racial profiling. They have no way of knowing who is stealing unless they follow people. I'm a middle aged white woman & have been followed at least half a dozen times. It's their job. Thieves come in all sizes, colors & ages. If they don't prevent the shoplifters form running amok the store will have to close. I know this because the Marshalls in Antioch closed because of too much theft & it was losing money. So if you are being watched, smile cause they are doing the job they were hired to do. read more
